Carol, I wanted to tell you that I totally get why someone would say it's calming to have you around. You are so highly capable and you take care of things without an issue. That is the kind of person I want to work for, and who I want working for me. Honestly, I'm calmer when I know you are around and I can bounce things off you.........

It's worth having a specialty in your back pocket for sure.

We're in talks for about 4 new companies and all of the talks are going well! My partners are the absolute best at selling and marketing! They're just not good at business systems, software and conforming new companies with the mother ship. The new CFO does not want to do that part of things and I told him he could get someone he already knows, but he felt that the specialty is too difficult and dynamic to find anyone and I'm already doing it. Then the president told me that he told the CFO under no circumstances could he not use me because he feels there is nobody better! I get all the stuff I love to do and no drudgery! The president said he felt it was a win-win that couldn't be better. He's adorable. He also hugged me when I got back from being away for a month and said that it was just so calming to have me around...ummm...you guys know me, he's got to be the only person on earth who would say that lol!

So, months away at a time and highly paid to play when I'm here!!! Does life get any better?!

Heather - this is EXACTLY the type of company you need to find!

Yassss! I'm so excited you finally got a good offer! Congratulations!

I went back to see the lactation consultant this morning and she agreed that I don't really need to pump after feedings and we can just move forward with nursing and supplementing. This feels like a pretty sustainable way forward, the boy is gaining well :)

I got the offer. It's for a stunning amount of money. I'm in such shock I'm having trouble keeping it together.

Literally this job description was written for me. It's honestly a much better fit than the ASPCA, no matter how much I love the mission here. And they are willing to pay me a really good salary plus bonus. They want me. They are excited about me and what I can bring to the table. I have the background for this. You know how you are really strong in agri business Carol? Well, I'm really strong in pharma consulting. And that's what this job is.

I'm finding it hard to focus now. Now, it's finding a way for the transition. The offer is contingent on a background check, and I can't imagine not passing it, but I'll wait for that to clear before figuring out what to do about resigning here.

Carol - We are actually really lucky to have a Y close by. (We live in a small town, in fact our entire county only has a population of about 75,000). Things finally came together when I got a small bonus at work, enough to pay for a little over 4 months of the membership fees. It wasn't until I had a child that I really appreciated all the things that I got to do in my childhood. Swimming Lessons, Gymnastics, Ice Skating, Skiing, Y-Camp, Girl Scout Camp... As a kid I never realized how much money all those things cost!

The good thing, is I'm a big bookworm, and I've managed to pass on my love of reading. Thanks to public libraries, it's a pretty cheap hobby!

Jen - I've been trying to eat more frequently which seems to help somewhat, and also to try and listen to my body as best I can about what it wants. Last night post swim, J (hubby) and A (daughter) had pizza, but as I didn't have to rush to get to work or go to bed, I made myself a cheeseburger (90% lean) skipped the bun, added a medium corn on the cob ,and half a fresh pear, and it was pretty much the best thing I've ever tasted in my life!

Swimming - Last night was family swim. J & I swim laps while A plays with the other kids there. We swam for two hours, so I burned crazy amount of calories. Though only 40 minutes of it was dedicated lap swimming. I did a lot of drills working on my legs (as my arms were still quite tired), I also worked on my flip turns.

I am undecided if I am going to swim on my lunch today. I'm pretty tired, but I can always go and just float /walk / play around and + a few laps, and take it easy. Friday's I go to the gym on my lunch with J, and do strength training, and I strangely don't want to skip swimming for two whole days.

It's already the 28th, so April will be here soon!

Ah, the we survived reminder hehehe it's all temporary :)

I only ever had a handful of swimming lessons myself but they were effective. I do still remember how to do most strokes, though not well and I never swam competitively. Breaststroke is most comfortable for me and I'm on a similar pace of 1000-1200 yards in 30 minutes.

As for being ravenous after swims, yogurt or kefir and nuts are good post swim snacks for me. I do often notice that I'm more hungry for a while after. It's hard to avoid the sweets. I don't have pcos but I just got through Gestational diabetes, so I'm likely a bit insulin resistant normally too.

Michelle,

I totally understand not having enough money to go around. Do you have a YMCA nearby? I would be happy to get you a gift certificate for some lessons if you'd like.

To help with the hungries, there are a couple of methods you can employ. I eat about 5-8 almonds before my swim and that keeps me from being hungry afterward. I also do a dry sauna to get my body temp up and get some healthy sweat going.

Jen - Yay, I'm glad he likes the toy! My boy slept through the night from 6 weeks on...but my daughter liked to nurse every 2 hours until she was about a year...she slept through the night for a couple of days and then potty trained herself so she had to get up a number of times to pee...She's a lovely adult now, we survived.

For my birthday, one of the partners gave me a bucket list book of Places To Find Peace and Quiet. Sigh. It's lovely.

Speaking of travel...my replacement says he'd love for me to continue with projects and thinks taking month long trips is just fine by him : ) So I end up with the best of both worlds! I get to be the "forward guard" on new acquisitions and mergers, but I don't have to do day-to-day work. Sigh...I am a very happy camper.

Next trip? A week in Hawaii across the street from an awesome swim/snorkel place, then a cruise around the islands, then over to Vancouver. From there, up to Alaska and hiking every day!!! Late April we leave...when will April be here?

Calgal- I would love to have her take swimming lessons every year. It's honestly been an issue of $, but if she really loves it, I'll find a way to keep her in them.

Jen - My daughter is 7, and I really really had gotten used to long glorious nights of uninterrupted sleep. However, the child who I called my little goth girl because she never was scared of anything, is suddenly scared of EVERYTHING. She has frequent nightmares, wants to sleep with the light on, and wakes me up almost every night (sometimes more than once). During the day I can patient to amazing lengths, at night, not so much. That is supposed to somehow be comforting to you, but I can't remember why, lol

I got a 30ish minute swim in on my lunch hour yesterday, I usually do somewhere between 1000-1200 in that time frame. I try to keep track in my head, but at some point I usually get confused. Eventually I want to get a watch that will track laps (I'm open to suggestions if anyone uses one)

I did the same today, about 35 minutes, but my arms felt like noodles...that were made out of jello. On the bright side, it was so quiet, I had the whole pool to myself! It would have been the perfect time to work on my Fly, but again...jello.

My biggest issue right now is trying to find the right eating plan to mix with my swimming. Swimming makes me ravenous, so I've actually gained a few pounds since I started. I also usually eat lower carb to help with my PCOS / Insulin Resistance, but swimming REALLY makes me crave carbs, so I'm trying to find a good balance.

Welcome back Carol! I know you'll retire sooner or later :-p

Baby boy is doing well He loves that wooden toy, and figured out how to grasp it and bring it to his mouth to suck on the rounded ends lol. I think we're in the 4 month sleep regression territory now, so I'm really working on teaching him to sleep.

I'm not sure if I'll do it this week, but there's some yoga classes mid day at the y that I can use free babysitting to be able to go....

Michell - I think it's excellent that you are getting her swim classes. My parents had the rule that we had to take swim lessons every year until 13 at which point we could decide on our own. I continued and took lifeguarding, swim instructor certification along with lifesaving. I taught swimming for a while and it's definitely something you should be trained for. I used the same rules with my kids and they had swim lessons every year. My daughter went on to junior lifeguard and then was a volunteer for the program. Both kids were on the high school swim team which was super fun!

Jen - Yay! I'm happy you got to the pool. I've got to find one close by now that my schedule will lighten up. How's the baby?

Heather - How's the job front going? Boo for busy client work!

I am back from my month long trip and it was so very excellent. It was great to find out that all the planning I did worked out as I had hoped! Portugal was beautiful and so much fun to explore. Marrakech is an absolute assault on your senses! It's so foreign and crazy. If you guys are interested I'll write more about the trip.

Today I go back to work and meet my replacement. I can't decide if I hope I really like him...or can't stand him. If I can't stand him I'll retire sooner, but if I like him a lot, I'll want to stay to help the transition. I WANT to retire. I have more and more plans for developing the acre we're on.

Oh, and we close on tomorrow, one of the rentals that we sold! The other one we're selling we've offered to our tenants and also given them a 90 days notice so that if they don't, it still goes on the market as of June 1.

It was Shark week, so no swimming for me this weekend. I have a very tipped uterus, and so the only way to get tampons to work is to wrangle around with the kind that don't have the applicator, and that usually just seems like to much work when I just want to curl up in bed anyway.

I did get in a good swim at the end of last week. My goal was to try and swim half a mile in the 30 minutes I had during my lunch break. I actually made 1000 yards, so I beat that, and was pretty happy, though exhausted.

I'm not sure if I'll go on my lunch today or not, as it's supposed to storm this afternoon.

We just signed up my daughter (aged 7) for swim lessons. She got some in pre-school, and can kind of swim, but can't pass the test to go in the deep end at the Y. And I'm a horrible teacher, because my body just remembers what to do, but I can't explain it to anyone else.

Good morning!

I got a swim over the weekend which was great. I was pretty slow, only swimming 18 laps in 30 minutes (breaststroke), but it felt good.

I've got a couple appointments this week and my aunt is in town for work from Michigan, I haven't seen her since 2002 so I'm happy to get to see her.

I'm going to try listening to music and podcasts during the day instead of TV this week and see if that may help my headspace.

Good Morning!! I hope everyone had a great weekend and you're ready for the week! I have a ton of stuff going on and am having a little trouble getting it all done. I'll just make a list and plow through one item after another and I'll get it done this week!

Not much exercise last weekend. Had too much work to get done!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day and week!!
