Sounds like an amazing trip!!! Enjoy!!

I think this non profit is very straight and well managed. But people sure can bend things to the way they want them if they are allowed to. That's why they hire me, to keep them in line!!

You'll meet people with kids in no time! I had the children's gym when mine were babies and that sure made it easy. I hosted a lot of play groups and you might want to look into those kinds of groups. Once he is park age you can make friends super easy.

Heather - I had a nonprofit that had ties to NASA that sounds like what you described... Only the gal Was The presidents wife... I felt she was gaming the nonprofit and I ended up leaving because it didn't feel right.

Let's see... We've gone swimming, snorkeling, tidepooling and today we went hiking! Tonight we're meeting a group for drinks. There's a cruise group that you can chat with beforehand and plan excursions and meet ups. There's are parties planned on the ship already, I'm hosting a slot-pull where you meet in the casino and everyone puts in $10 and gets two pulls each. Since it's a $5 machine the odds are higher. There's a cabin crawl where you get to see each others cabins and then a party at the last cabin. So lots of fun, silly stuff above going to different islands every day... Life is rough!

Here's to a very activebvacation!

Oh that bench sounds cool!

Heather, wins all around! I hope you're taking it easy a bit before starting the been job.

We had a big weekend with a day trip to the beach for a kite festival with my brother and his daughters and our dad and step mom. Easter Sunday was lots of family time and baby boy sure slept well after all that. Makes we wish we saw more people more regularly.

I can't wait to see that bench when it's done!! I hope you and Cassie are having a marvelous time!!

So I had my first day at my new client. I'm doing bookkeeping for a local not-for-profit that my daughter is involved with. They do amazing community service and leadership programs for youth and teens in our area. I'm so happy to be involved.

It's a lovely organization with very simple accounting. I think they write about 6 vendor checks a month, do a few deposits a week and run payroll twice a month. I think if it takes me more than an hour or so a week I'll be surprised. I guess the week I have to do the financial reporting I'll put in like 5 hours, until I get the hang of it. This is the kind of client I like!! So, the woman I'm replacing has been there for 9 years as an employee. She does the accounting and fundraising events (which I won't be doing). They pay her half of what I made as the Interim Controller at the ASPCA. The ASPCA was $250 million in revenues and ridiculously complex. This org is about $600,000 in revenues a year, and honestly this is a totally part time job, even with the fundraising she was doing. What is wrong with this woman for walking away from this job!? I think she's just tired of it and wants something new!!

I'm charging a lot closer to market rate for the work, and I'm pretty happy with the extra income that will help pay for college for my kid. And it will free up quite a bit of funding for the programs, so it's really a win for all of us.

I'm grateful for the time between jobs and I'm enjoying it to the fullest. I went swimming after the training, and it felt GREAT!!!

I hope all are well today!! And Carol, have a fantastic trip!!!

Yes! This is sure to be a good week! We leave for vacation Wednesday and will be gone for 3 weeks! When I get back here, I think there will be another month of work and then I can retire!

This weekend we planted a lot more plants and I (finally) began work on my epic bench! In the end, it will be a mosaic, full circle bench with a back on it. In the circle in the middle I'm going to plant an orange tree. I'm making it out of foam and foam coat, then I'll tile it with tiles I've been making in bright reds, yellows, blues and greens, plus I've got shells and glass bobbles. It's about six feet across, so it's very large and will be a total statement piece - lol. My daughter is home for a few weeks and she's helping me. We are having so much fun! She's going to house sit for us and keep all of our new plants watered.

Good morning all!! Week 2 of my long vacation between jobs starts today! So far I've worked on our candle business and worked on some client stuff. I'll keep going on that, because I need some cash flow from clients!!

I'm feeling very good physically. I'm working on myself during this time for me to rest and recover somewhat from what I've been through the last few years. I knew, in my heart, if I just kept on going positively I'd get to a really positive place again. And I'm here. And I'm so grateful for it.

Time for some breakfast and back to the work! It's going to be a good week!!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day and week!
