Well, so much for sleeping. I awakened at 4AM 2 nights in a row and then last night was up from 1-4. But I did manage to go back to sleep and stay until 7:30. I know I'm under a lot of stress. I managed to get the house sold but now the stress of insurance, appraisals and inspections start. I have to go back to Texas next week for jury duty so will take a load with me and then really start packing when I get back. so much to do so little time.

Changes seem to be working, since 5 of last 6 days I've met my goal of 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

An interesting twist yesterday led to a good nights sleep. We had to leave the house so they could show it to a couple over the lunch hour so I ate a big lunch at the diner and then didn't need anything but a small snack for dinner. And I slept good last night!!! Huh! and the scale was down 2 pounds this morning! I hope it stays there!!

And suddenly...no sleep...I figured I'd sleep really well last night as we worked outside in this heat all day and I got in lots of steps and lots of sweat. Apparently too much work is as bad as not enough because I was awake for 4 hours in the middle of the night. Could not get back to sleep. At home I can go to my office and work on games or listen to tunes but this house is so designed that anything going on downstairs is twice as loud upstairs...it's a dome home with 3/4 2nd floor with open walls. Tonights another night. Gary and the dog go back to Texas tomorrow so I'll be able to get up and do things is I need to. emoticon

Changes I've made include watching the clock more closely to get to bed "on time." I've also chosen to read a poem, a short story or an essay instead of a novel where I "need" to know what happens next; those other choices are self-contained and when I'm finished there's no "more."
I sometimes listen to music or white noise, but not always.

I thought for sure I would sleep like a bear last night. We did all the hedge trimming and weed eating around the house and down the driveway and then toted all the branches to the burn pile and actually burned one pile of leaves in the driveway. My arms were still shaking at dinner! I laid in bed for 9 hours but only clocked about 4 hours of good sleep. But at least I got 4 hours. And I feel rested this morning so that's great!

Joyce, I can understand the not sleeping as well thing when a big day is coming up. Seems like when we need the most sleep we end up tossing and turning. I wish our brains had an on/off switch!!

Sorry Ginger your having so much pain, hope the spine clinic will be able to help.

Usually I don't sleep well on Sunday because I know I have to get up early for drive to Don's treatments, but I have to say, sticking to certain habits, I slept better almost 8 hrs.

Well, the pain meds really didn't help that much. As soon as they wear off the pain is back and the muscle spasms aren't getting any better. Go figure! But just having Gary and dog here helps me relax a little more and I sleep better. At least I know the issue may need some investigation at the spine clinic when I get home. So that's a win! emoticon

I tweaked my bedtime routine to include 1 hour of relaxation with just my "mood" lights....ie some Christmas lights placed on the shelf around some trinkets...I put on my headphones and listen to some music. I try to get my daughter debriefing in before this so that I can truly relax. It seems to be helping with the sleep in that I still wake up but can fall right back to sleep. Gary brought me some heavy duty meds so for a couple days I'm going to be out of it...nice. Probably not good for my weight this week, tho. I made a huge pot of vegetable soup to try to counteract the effects of muscle relaxers and pain meds. We'll see.

I can make myself go to bed at night at a decent time but something always wakes me up around two or three. Our cat, our water system flushing, Bathroom run, etc. And my husband gets up for work at 4:30. So I have given myself permission to take a nap if I need it. NEVER could take naps before but making myself lie down I have actually gotten some sleep to up my numbers and I feel much better each day.

Every day is a new beginning! Carpe Diem!

Did anyone do the activity to plan an evening bedtime routine? Has anything that you have changed been helping?

Are you meeting those sleep goals that you set iat the end of week 1?

If your following along then you should be in week 3. If not, then just keep going wherever you are the goal is progress.

All week 3's assignments are listed in the sleep challenge teams page. Hugs, let me know if you have any questions. Arin

My dear roommate will be here this week with medication!!! I can hardly wait!! Plus he's bringing the VooDoo cream that helps the pain also. I haven't been sleeping that well at night but yesterday and saturday I took 1.5 hour naps and it felt really good. So get the sleep when I can is the new motto??
Hope you are all having a great week! emoticon

We are getting rain again, although I did get in an early morning walk with Kayla, I bought her a raincoat so when it is only drizzling we can still go for a walk.

Slept pretty good, did get up twice to go potty but that is usual. I must say I am getting up less to go, maybe body adjusting to water intake.

Have a great Friday and weekend.

I woke up twice last night but was able to go back to sleep pretty easily. My cardio was to weed eat around the culvert over the creek and get around the banks so i can see where the creek is when mowing. Battery only last about 3/4 of the job and then it rained, so will have to finish when it dries up again. I should get my mower fixed next week so I can get this yard back in shape. Weed eating is hard on the shoulders and back and neck. Not a good combination with my neck already messed up. But it was good to get it done!

Hope everyone is having a great week and getting ready for a nice weekend!

I read the articles this morning and I need to see if I can work up to a full 30 minutes of cardio at one time. I currently do between 10 and 15 minutes 2-3 times a day in the form of walking. Despite the pain I've been doing my strength training which for me definitely raises my heart rate.....LOL But I don't count that for actual cardio. So for this week my goal is to walk for 17-20 minutes twice a day.

As far as the eating article I eat 4-5 hours before bedtime as my stomach has had issues in the past and that was needed. It's a habit now. No late snacking anymore. My worst snack time is 2-4 in the afternoon.....boy....lock the cabinets!!! Hide the chocolate!! But that is getting so much better too. I'm only snacking when my stress level is really extreme and I'm seriously out of sorts. The last 2 months since my daughters situation I've been really stressed but so busy trying to get the house ready to sell that my snacking has been almost non-existent. So maybe I'm going to be able to break that urge, too! Might be the silver lining in this dark cloud!!

Hope you are all having a great week!

What are you guys thoughts on the articles about why a good nights rest helps losing weight? I read both and have heard this over and over.

I think when I sleep enough for some reason I am less hungry so I don't eat as much. But, the articles didn't say why if you get enough sleep you tend to loose more weight just that you did.

Ginger sorry to hear your in so much pain, it is hard to sleep when your hurting, sending hugs and prayers, hope you sleep better tonight.

I usually sleep pretty good, I do get up between 1 -2 times to go potty. Sunday for some reason I wake up more, maybe because I know we have to get up to go to Don's treatments. Been sleeping between 7:45 min to 8:15 minutes.

@DETERMINED369 feeling so worried for you! It is horrible to try to sleep when in pain. Giving you a big virtual hug!

I have been basically extremely sick all week so my sleep was all over the place. Not reflective of how things are when not sick.

Read some of those great sleep articles and going to write out my goals for week 2 tonight.

Hugs, Goalies and have a great sleep tonight! Arin

Another restless night, but tonight I can take some Aleve again and see if I can get some rest. I'm saving my pumpkin spice yogurt for this evening to take with the meds. We'll see.
How is everyone else's sleeping going??

Oh, boy! Last night was not a good night. The pain in my neck is getting really bad. I'm having Gary bring me some of my muscle relaxers and heavy duty pain meds. I'll take 2 days off while he's here and try to get this under control. If that doesn't work I may have to go up the the ER and see what they say.

One night this week slept 9+ hours! Felt good next morning so needed it. Continuing to sleep 6+ when my goal is 7-8 hours! Will continue to work on reaching the goal.

For my bedtime routine I've switched my reading. I usually "work" on the novel/nonfiction I'm reading, but I was finding I'd often want to continue to read. So, now, I'm using a book of short stories. Granted, some are longer than others, but I can skip around for one that fits my time. I also have a book of essays to use next. I should be able to be consistent about when I fall asleep.

I slept pretty well last night but woke up 3 times. At 0400 I actually laid in bed and did my back stretches with hip releases. Then fell back to sleep for 4 hours. Now I'm a little behind but no worries. Sleeping is great. No meds last night but I did spend 3 hours sitting and puttering around upstairs with only my 2 strands of Christmas lights for ambiance. They are very relaxing.

I cheated last night. I was in so much pain and was itching everywhere so I had to break down and take some Aleve and Benedryl. I slept 10 hours and only woke up twice but fell right back to sleep. I do wish I could at least take the Aleve every night. But only 3 days in a row or every other night for a week is what my stomach can handle. Oh, well. At least one good night is nice!! emoticon

I've incorporated a half hour or more of relaxing music with just my colored lights on and I seem to be controlling the racing thoughts when I wake up in the middle of the night. I call that a win! I still wake up every 2 hours from the pain but it's a little easier to fall back to sleep the last couple nights. We'll see how it goes.

I did well on the quiz; had done some reading some time ago while looking for a jump on weight loss.

Yeah, I'm also keeping a journal so I have info. Irony: first 2 days of sleep challenge I slept 6 hours and 55 minutes! Not meeting my 7-8 hours goal!

Joined the challenge and also got a 10/10 on the quiz. It's not knowing but doing I guess. My biggest issue is waking up and tossing and turning for hours. I'm pretty sure its due to my pain levels because I'm always in a lot of pain when I wake up. I'm also going to keep a journal with the suggested questions. Might be able to show that to the doc and see if they will find something to help this pain.
