Good evening,

very busy day at work and tomorrow is a day of meetings. But it was such a warm sunny day that my walk at lunch was really nice. Tomorrow and Thursday are supposed to be even warmer.

Have a great day

Thank you everyone! I am feeling a bit better. Finally recognized that I was experiencing some unrecognized grief as yesterday was the first anniversary of my sister's death. Once I realized what was happening, I began to recover by taking time to grieve and to feel sad.

I hope everyone's week started off with love and laughter.

Good morning,

It is a wonderful sunny morning here and it is supposed to get to 19C today. I am so happy as this is also supposed to last all week. I can start cleaning the balconies and then sit out on them and enjoy the sun.

My husband and I went through the 2 boxes we brought up from the basement and one of them is tools of his - not sure where he is going to store those as he does not want to get rid of any of them. He needs a house as I am sure we will not use them in an apartment but he does not want to give them up. The other one had more of his mums stuff. Silver serving thing that uses a fuel base, then a place for water, and finally the top part for the food - all to keep it warm on the table. Also a large silver ice bucket, a smaller container and 2 brass swans. Oh and a 6 bottle alcohol dispenser that his mum had in her basement rumpus room.

Now what to do with all that stuff. But I am happy that we did get rid of a lot of other stuff in the boxes.

Have a great day

Feel better Nancy.

It is a beautiful day, spring is here finally. We have birds making a next in our bird house, they have been for the last 3 years, for a while I thought they (or grown babies) weren't coming back, but they are here.

Have a restful Sunday.

Nancy - hope you feel better soon

It is finally sunny and looks like it will stay that way this week and get warmer. Yesterday I spent the day with my 2 sons and they also helped me get 2 more boxes up from the basement. Now I have a new to do list that I will focus on this week.

Tonight my husband and I are going to see Rampage. I am looking forward to it.

Have a wonderful Sunday

I am battling the weekend crud that seems to hit in one form or another almost every week. This week is tummy trouble - maybe Montezuma is out of his cage and seeking revenge for my catching him the last time he started to wreak havoc on me. Seriously, it is probably stress related as my work week is extremely stressful. Last year it was almost always cold-like symptoms and this year I am seeing more stomach issues.

I am fighting off a cold and am so far mostly successful. Although not totally up to par but now that the weekend is here I will make sure to get totally rid of it.

And guess what - it is raining again -and gotten cooler, however the long range forecast for next week is nice warm weather in the low 20sC - which is around 72 F

Husband is working tonight so I get to relax and prepare for tomorrow

Have a great evening

CERIUSLY,

Thank you for clarifying what is required versus optional. I will look for the destination thread so I can post there. By several places I meant within my sparkpeople trackers I log my water, food and exercise daily, then need to do it daily on my Determined Daisies Team thread also. Then post the weekly stuff too. I feel better knowing just the weekly is required.

Thank you!

Thanks, everyone! Reading your answers I am blessed.

DEBBIE3965 I wasn't so much disappointed as sad because people left before we could get to know them.

SADIEMYERS thank you for your insight. Your opinion is valued. As leaders, we are aware of the points you mention. We do try to inform new members before the challenge starts so they have time to decide if it's something they will enjoy. I'm a bit confused about recording in several places. Members are only required to post a weight once a week and post to the Destination thread once a week. Everything else is optional.

I wanted to mention as a first time 5% challenger, my first reaction to Monday's spark mailer, was I should mention it took longer than expected for the challenge to begin for me. I know a lot of new people must sign up, then wait, then lose interest or their goals may have changed.

I see a lot of work goes into these challenges from the leaders, and when I first signed up had no idea it would be so much involvement. I assumed weighing in and reporting my weight once a week would suffice.

So maybe the lack of interest on the part of the new members is just because its not what they were expecting. I wasn't looking for a theme (traveling) just wanted an 8 week goal. I'm trying to keep up with all the extra expectations but I'm a very busy person and don't always have a chance to sit down at the computer to record it all in several places.

Just my opinion :)

the challenges help me stay motivated you don't want to let your friends down by letting your brain tell you its O kay to skip fitness to day tomorrow is a new day .

1. Am I satisfied with my finish? Yes I did what I could and know I will improve next week I am a work in progress
2. Did I participate to the best of my ability? Yes did only the cardio and pushed my self to improve those minutes since I had two surgeries removal of per cancer moles removed so had stitches in my shoulder and told to limit my lifting. Stitches out so back to doing cardio and strength

3. Did I read and take advantage of the fun activities my Leaders work hard to provide for me? Yes I look forward to seeing what they have planned each week.

4. Did I read a blog, yes they are so helpful in meeting my team mates and tips for the journey I need the reminders they offer look for none scale victories not to take the scales as the piece of my journey where else can you share you may not have lost weight but bought a bra a side smaller since last you shopped visit a page or send a Goodie to someone on my team? Set time a side to visit and send goodies know how much I like to find notes and goodies on my page .
5. How can I improve during Week 2, and 3, take it one week at a time and check in daily and not wait until the end of week . add a few minutes to my fitness remembering what spark guy says 10 min at a time adds up at the end of the day .

until final weigh-in? accept the number on the scales and prepare for our next adventure

1. Why did I join this challenge? For those who are experienced travelers, why do I return? I've been doing the 5% challenges since 2011 and I keep returning because IT WORKS. My health is unpredictable to say the least. Over the years I've lost, gained, lost. In 15 had quite a scare. Since 16 I've been steadily losing. Not always as much as I wanted, but I've not quit. I WANT the least amount f pain I can be in to be my reality. I'm emoticon 118 lbs as of today.
Think about Week 1:
1. Am I satisfied with my finish? YES!! Very, very!!! I'm GOING for my 5% in the guidelines Sparks has set me nutritionally. I've been sick since b4 the challenge started. I'm exercising, but in smaller amounts several times a day.
2. Did I participate to the best of my ability? Yes,,,, I do my bestest. Otherwise why join my team?
3. Did I read and take advantage of the fun activities my Leaders work hard to provide for me? Lol I'm one of the leaders. We worked very hard with our goals and other threads. When members use these to aid their progression we CAN tell!! These ARE the ones who give it their all. Giving it ones all doesn't mean they'll lose their 5%, but we see changes being made. Its simply encouraging.
4. Did I read a blog, visit a page or send a Goodie to someone on my team? Yes, I'm the ML on the emoticon IE team and emoticon doing so!!
5. How can I improve during Week 2, and 3, and ... until final weigh-in? My exercise quality I keep thriving to change around. As a team we all did a question and answer thread called "Vet Record". Question 11 asked our goals at weeks 2,4 and 8. I WANT to hit these. I'm a TOTAL freggie HATER so help myself thrive from weeks 4-8 is to eat 1-3 servings a day.

I'm IN TO WIN!

1. Why did I join this challenge? For those who are experienced travelers, why do I return?
** I need the accountability and I enjoy all the people I meet on Sparks and on the challenge groups

Think about Week 1:
1. Am I satisfied with my finish?
** am satisfied but I know I could do better so will see what week 2 will bring

2. Did I participate to the best of my ability?
** I did but I believe we could all do a bit better - stretching just a bit out of our comfort zone

3. Did I read and take advantage of the fun activities my Leaders work hard to provide for me?
** I took advantage of all but the bingo thread - I appreciate all the work the leaders so as I know how hard / difficult it is to keep things 'interesting' for the group

4. Did I read a blog, visit a page or send a Goodie to someone on my team?
** I read a few blogs but don't necessarily respond to them - guess that is the next step right

5. How can I improve during Week 2, and 3, and ... until final weigh-in?
** Week 2 and onward - am going to have to be more consistant with my exercise working on getting in more than 10 minutes each day even with mobility issues - no more excuses right

I read my inbox message from Ceri and I to feel her,I hesitate to say, disappointment. When I go on to my team everyday I too notice the lack of participation and it saddens me.
Let me answer her questions and hopefully it may inspire some of our hesitant Travelers.

1. Why did I join this challenge? For those who are experienced travelers, why do I return?

I joined last year at exactly the same time. A spring challenge. I loved the idea of being able to talk and read messages from others who were doing the same thing I was doing. Experiencing the same difficulties and hurdles. I keep returning because I feel I have made some friends and I truly like the people in my group. I really, really, like them. I have been in every challenge since then.

Think about Week 1:
1. Am I satisfied with my finish?
I am always satisfied with any little amount of progress I may make. If I falter and drop back I know my fellow group members will be there with a kind word and a sympathetic ear.

2. Did I participate to the best of my ability? Think and believe I did. If sometimes one falters and comes in a little late they should not be embarrassed. Just do your very best.

3. Did I read and take advantage of the fun activities my Leaders work hard to provide for me? I try to participate in every fun activity. I actually think that helps the camaraderie. I love finding inspiration quotes and friendly picture. Right now I loved our bingo.

4. Did I read a blog, visit a page or send a Goodie to someone on my team? Yes, this is how I find out about my fellow travelers. I spin that wheel just so I can give away Spark goodies. I was even inspired to right two blogs.

5. How can I improve during Week 2, and 3, and ... until final weigh-in?
I set a special time aside just for going on Spark. Most mornings I am on before I go teach. Some days I must wait until evening because of prior commitments. But I always make this the first place I go when I turn on the computer. This is the place I find support and understanding. emoticon

What an up-beat and encouraging response to Ceri's thought provoking spark letter! I know why I continue to join each season. It's the accountability. I'm gung-ho for exercise at certain points, but I can be equally slug-like at other points. There have been plenty of days when I would have blown off exercise, if I weren't embarrassed to let my team down. And NO, that's not a negative reason! We all need to recognize the value of social responsibility to the greater community. It's not just a Spark value, but an essential part of life in any human community. Each person's positive contributions make life better for the rest of us. Stepping off my soap box now. emoticon

1. Why did I join this challenge? For those who are experienced travelers, why do I return?

I joined a year ago in the 2017 spring challenge because I liked the idea of setting a goal to lose 5% of my weight. I did not lose 5% in that first challenge, but I did lose some. More importantly I was on a team where people cared. I lost my sister when she passed at 60 very unexpectanly during that challenge. The outpouring of support was incredible. Another thing I learned from that challenge was people were doing 120 minutes of activity 7 days a week. Up to that point I felt I was doing great to get a 60 minute walk in 3 times a week. Since spring 2017, I have reached my goal weight and I have participated in every challenge. I come back because it keeps my on track and I love to be part of such a caring group. I am currently the WL for my team, the Teddy Bears and I enjoy being involved.

Think about Week 1:
1. Am I satisfied with my finish?

I am very satisfied with my finish for week 1, I started at 2 1/2 pounds over my goal (not good, but I had just returned from vacation) and ended the week down 2 pounds. It was a bit difficut getting in activity minutes becasue of the dreadful spring weather we're having. I didn't hit 120minutes, but I made a good contibution each day.

2. Did I participate to the best of my ability? Yes!

3. Did I read and take advantage of the fun activities my Leaders work hard to provide for me? Probably not as often as I should have, but I was busy learning my new responsibilites as WL

4. Did I read a blog, visit a page or send a Goodie to someone on my team? Yes I did all of these each day.

5. How can I improve during Week 2, and 3, and ... until final weigh-in?
I will keep up my effort, maybe get a bit more involved with the fun activities.

Work is busy these days which is a good thing but most of it is documentation and that is really hard and exhausting. I get home and just want to go to bed. At least the week is half over now, although I hate wishing the weekend were here as that makes the time go way too fast.

Not much else going on. Trying to continue with my de-cluttering and knitting

Have a great day

Sounds like me yesterday. It was the weather. Being overcast so many days in a row does that to me

Today I woke with a really bad headache and I have been really sleepy all day. Not sure if it is something I ate or just that I am overdoing it.

Well off for another nap

Have a great day

Thanks Fluffy. My Mom do go home from the hospital on Saturday afternoon after the doctor changed one of her medications. She had the option of staying another night but just wanted to get home again. I talked to her Saturday evening and she sounded pretty good. Bonus was that I got in a workout while waiting to hear about her and even did a "treadmill stroll" emoticon yesterday (Sunday) which I normally take as a rest day. emoticon

ANHELIC - IF you have questions about the challenge you can post questions on your team forum to your leaders or to the overall challenge leaders on this forum. As for getting started on your journey, (if you are just beginning it) I suggest tracking your food on here, trying to increase your water intake and trying to do at least 10 minutes of exercise a day. If you have lots of "food habits" that you want to tame, concentrate on one or two only at a time like eliminating some of your soda intake (if that's a problem of course) or limiting sugar - whatever is a problem area for you. It's a journey so just take baby steps to get going. Remember the lesson of the hare and the tortoise "slow and steady wins the race"! emoticon

I am hoping that I will succeed in my weight loss. Please let me know how to get started. I am anxious to start succeeding with Spark People's help. God luck to everyone on this journey.

I am a born again Christian and I love the Lord with all my heart. He has changed my life so I now live with more peace and contentment. I no longer desire to have what some of my friends have , but know God knows my needs and I am so grateful that He has given me my needs and not my wants. I enjoy writing my daily blog Bible Verse for each day. I enjoy spending time with God every day.
I enjoy Spark People and the ones I have become friends with. Thy have become an encouragement as I go al

such a busy Friday. I worked late as the person I work with had the day off. Then we went to a movie (well that was nice) but after we went grocery shopping as we have company coming today and no groceries in the house. We got home at 11pm put groceries away and then went to bed.

Today I am up early to clean the place, plan the meals, prep the meals and get ready for them arriving.

Have a great day

Liz- Stuff happens when we least expect it unfortunately. I got in a decent workout yesterday. Too bad I can't count those minutes for today because my mom is in hospital about an hour from here and if she doesn't go home today I'll be heading up to see her and may not get in much of a workout - if any. Not a good way to start with my team. I hope that everyone has a good challenge.

The leaders are care of the spreadsheet. Most flyers never see them. If you are a leader and need access to a spread sheet ask your CL.
