I am hoping to pick it up in February because (drum roll please!) pending home check in the next few days, we're getting a greyhound! We don't have a yard, so there will be lots of walks in my future which should help increase my daily mileage. I'm hoping to catch up and go over my goal for February. Goodness knows, I need it in order to get back on track!

January is finished and I did well by walking everyday. But I am already about 30 miles behind for the year but i know I will make up for it when the warmer weather arrives in a few months.
I plan on really pushing myself to get the 6 miles I need every day in February.

This is fun!

I can really relate to that, when I was working I often had to walk for a couple hours to make my 10K. I am retired so there really is no excuse.
Yes, we can do this!

I definitely understand how you feel about constantly feeling like you're walking. I work in a pretty sedentary office and once I get home I feel like I have to walk constantly in order to get to 14,000 steps. (For instance, it's 3:10pm now and I'm currently at 4,330 steps. I average 100-110 steps per minute, so I have 88 to 97 minutes more of constant walking left to hit my daily mileage goal.) Recently, I just haven't had it in me and I've fallen to an average of 4.41 miles per day. But there's still 11 more months to catch up!

Hi All
With one more day in January I have 8 emoticon and have 160.99 miles so I am averaging about 5.3 miles a day. My stretch goal is 5.5 a day, some days it just doesn't happen. I have to get 14000 steps to get 5.5 miles. I was averaging a bit over 10k in December so this is good. Only thing is I sometimes feel like I am doing nothing but walking, I am trying to make it at least interesting by doing things like Mall walk in a new location (not always easy).

@STEPGEEK My step chart looks like I'm climbing mountains! I need to work on being a little more consistent with it. Or maybe my body is telling me to slow down a bit. Just stick to my goal and don't go over it. .... but we do have 351 more days emoticon

@ESSENTIALLYME I'm currently behind on mileage for the month/year, too, but we have time to catch up. Right now I just need to add about 0.5 miles per day to my planned mileage and I'll actually be ahead of schedule. I'm dealing with some pain and stress management issues right now, though, so I'm just hoping to keep up right now, let alone add mileage.

We can do it, though. I have faith!

Good Morning guys!
I didn't reach my goal of 13,000 steps yesterday, only got 12,790. But it's all good, I'm only 16.5 miles behind schedule to get the 2020 in a year.

Hi Everyone,
I am finding tracking mileage is very motivating. I have now earned my 3rd snowflake.
Yesterday, I did 6 miles.
It is challenging to do all this walking in my house, sometimes we go to mall. Fortunately, my husband is a decent walking partner when he isn't in pain. He suffers from back pain, since he broke a vertbrae a few years ago.

Hi all. I am Pam. I aim for three miles a day but usually go over that. However I have been sick this last week. I had to chuckle when I read an earlier post about hopping on the treadmill to get another snowflake. My tracker tells me to do 250 steps every hour from 9-5. Even while I was sick I did it. Not easy, sometimes slow but I did it. I think I reached my three miles every day too. I actually think it help the cold not settle into my chest like it usually does.

This time is THE time!

You all are amazing. I appreciate this team too and need to get it together! Am Targeting 10,000 steps a day or more. I think Ive missed this only 1 or 2 days this year. Im happy if I can maintain this ok.

I have issues with leg edema and nerve pain in my foot and dr says walk less. Yes, seriously! Ended up in ER in Nov..dr thinks too much walking. Bakers cyst burst on good leg.-arthritis underlying cause. So frustrating! Good news is no arthritis in bad leg.

I Have a chronic blood clot in one leg behind the knee-calcified. Ok...so no half marathons or marathons....I replied to dr that Id listen to my body. Ive been trying to avoid surgery on this foot and acupuncture/eating non-inflammatory foods got me out of this for 2 yrs now. It also got me out of a boot after 6 months. It took me quite awhile to build back up to the 10k last year and if I can, Id like to keep it here. My go to sport is cycling ..less issues with the foot. Its winter now so this is limited. I only track my outside miles, but do spin too.

Still dreaming about walking a marathon some day post blood clot! If I can get weight down...and I believe I can, then I want to do this. Also really want to do a walking vacation. Like El Camino, in the Himalayas, across England, or South America etc, a week in the Alps.

Ive pulled off some incredible day hikes in places I had no business doing this, but have not yet had the guts to book a 1 week hiking vacation. My pain can be very intense and this really isnt recommended. But...I think its possible. Have been dealing with this for 14 years and I refuse to give up on any goal.

How's this for being stubborn? My husband and I have been sick the last couple of days so.... Today, I forced myself to do some walking and exercising.
When I went to enter my numbers here tonight, I realized I was less than 1 mile away from getting in another 20 miles and another snowflake. So, my stubborn self jumped back on the treadmill at 11pm to get those extra steps so I could get that third snowflake! LOL


Katie.... 3 a day is great, especially with a knee problem. Great job!

I'm so glad that I am in this group. In October I added a step counter app to my phone. I set a goal for 3000 steps a day and I had to work hard to reach that. I got a Fitbit for Chirstmas this year, which makes it easier to track my steps.

My goal was to get to 10,000 steps a day and I was going to achieve it by adding 500 steps a week. My goal this week is 9000 steps, but since I started virtually hiking the Appalachian Trail I've done 10,000+ steps for the past couple of days. I just love looking at the picture of where "I am."

My step goal for the year is 1800. I found myself walking around the block while on the phone this morning just to get a few more steps in. I really would like to complete this hike this year so perhaps I need to up my goal to 2202 miles.

today has been a fun but wash of a day. walked the dog for 25 minutes but then it started to rain. didn't get to walk during daughter's dance class-hubby called and needed to come home but i did vacuum. went to a friend's house all afternoon-made a healthy choice with sub but then ate junk food...

hi everyone. crazy day-it rained so i couldn't walk my daughter in school. had to shorten my trip to the gym because had to drive to best buy and then walked the dog and drove to a specialist 40 minutes away. took my daughter to dance, ate at friendly's with her, now home. 16,000 steps

Lynn-thanks. you're such a great dog momma. i usually take my dog in sweats and a jacket or whatever on top...sometimes we walk miles first thing.

Hi . I am finally back home. Went to the gym this morning and walked 3 miles on the treadmill.
Then was busy at grocery store. I should have a good amount of steps/miles by the time the day ends. Time for a coffee.

Yes, I realized that to do 2020 I would have to walk over 13000 steps a day. I would love to say that is going to happen, but I have to be realistic. I have been averaging 11K and I will try to do better. Yesterday, I did 5 miles.

Hubby and I went for another 2+ mile walk last night just before sundown. I'm so glad we get home early enough to walk outside in the evenings. The weather is so mild for January in Pennsylvania - we're loving it!

Hey even I was motivated to walk outside early this morning for an added 1000 steps ( rarely do this). Then I went to the gym as usual to walk the treadmill.

This new team has be raring to get my steps in every day! emoticon

Way to go Mary. This morning I took puppy out for her first thing in the morning poop walk. I would like to add that was 1,000 steps in my bathrobe. My neighbors are friendly.

awesome everyone. just took my dog on an hour walk-between the elliptical at the gym and walking the dog, i'm at 11,000 steps so far.

emoticon Hello Everyone and emoticon to a bright and shiny New Year ~ 2020!!!

I'm excited for 2020 ~ so, to get this Challenge started, I bundled up earlier today and got outside and took my first walk of 2020!!! Because I have a desk job, it is difficult to get in the kind of mileage to get in 2,020 miles for the New Year, but I checked how much I walked in 2018 and 2019 and added a little more.

One of my SparkFriends on another team mentioned a virtual walk tracker (free) and I'm going to check it out. I actually believe that there is a thread about it that has been started.

Thank you Heidi for inviting me to this challenge group.I love to walk.
This team will motivate me to keep at it daily. I always try for 5 miles ( 10,000 steps) daily but the last few months I slacked off.

I have made a commitment here to doing 2020 miles this year which brings me to a very aggressive step count of 11,000 steps daily. emoticon

Every New Year I always try to add something positive concerning my food choices.
( I am always trying to lose weight) This year I will be cutting back on all added sugars in foods. Reading all the labels and making sure the sugar ( if any) is listed after the first three ingredients.

My motto is: Don't let perfection stand in the way of your success.

Too many people feel if they are not perfect every day there is no point. Well that is the wrong way to look at life. Life is not perfect. Just do your best!

Thank you Heidi for leading me to this team (from your blog). I had signed up for Run the Year 2020, so I was already committed to doing 2020 miles in 2020. I also am resolved to quit diet coke (again), so that fits right in with the No Junk January.

I've been thinking quite a lot about perfection lately. I know everyone says "Progress, not Perfection", but my mind keeps answering..."why NOT perfection?" I do so much better when I'm adhering to my plan 100% - whether it's my food plan, or my workout plan, or my household chores plan! So for 2020, I'm going for perfection. This isn't about results, it's about execution. I can't control results, but I can and will stick to my own personal plans 100%. Allowing for life/weather/injury getting in the way of a workout, I can make adjustments to the plan. 2020 Vision: Goals in Focus!

Love the idea of the no junk for January challenge, but I know it will be at least a few more days until the house is cleaned out. If I do sign up, I will probably only have three weeks at best.

Goals are Finalized and in my blog. Ive been practicing some of my new habits for 8-9 days. Tomorrow I will plan out the 1st week of January and get Jan targets on my calendar. Who else is psyched up and ready to Go?!!!

What is really cool is that Im very close to finishing 2 stitching projects. I have a top 10 list and only got 1 small quilt done in 2019. A few days of focus is yielding results! Plus Ive done great with cycling and walking.

Looking forward to a better year ..2020

Many changes in my life the past year or so, adjustments made and learning to once again be happy living the single life. Injured my knee and it is still picky thus the low daily goal.
I will do more when I can..but know that I can achieve my goal daily!

Hey! This is such a great idea, but for me, I'm going too have to drop out. I hurt my foot a month ago, and it's still not much better. So I'm going to have to change my fitness program. I'm focusing on ST instead.

I can't wait to try this challenge out! It fits perfectly with my personal goal to do a half marathon in October.

I saw a mention of duolingo? I really enjoy that app. I needed a refresher on French (school was a long time ago) and it quizzed me to find out where to start and what we could skip.

Im super excited to get 2020 rolling with this challenge. Am also excited about the final tally for 2019 bike mileage. Ive been tracking this since 2015. This will be the first time I attempt to track walking miles for a year.
