Good morning!

It is so dark today I have the lights on in the kitchen and living room. I had them on in the bedroom and bathroom earlier. They did forecast thunder storms for today! Isn't that nice? emoticon

Carol - I'm so happy with the results for CJ's eyes. What a relief! emoticon - I love the mug you have this morning. My nephew served overseas in that region for 9 months and I remember how nerve wracking it was for the family. Every time I meet a soldier here in Canada, I don't miss a chance to thank him/her for their service!

Miller - I sure hope that Katie's day is not too stressful today! Maybe the people are not as bad as the people at the clinic told her.

Wishing you all a nice, happy and healthy Wednesday!

Back later... emoticon

We were surprised yesterday when we came out of the grocery store and there had been a brief rain shower! What a delightful surprised! I had tried to plant a few of my 50 tulip bulbs and the ground was just too hard. I ended up yesterday with over 8,000 steps but I failed to enter all my calories and I know I went over. I binged on cheez-its before I went to bed.

Kathryn- that is what I love about Spark and especially this time. I communicate more here than with my sister which is sad. Itís just that when you are the one that calls every time, you are afraid of bothering them too much. I am so glad you can say good-bye to those 50 pounds! That is GREAT! I am so impressed!

Carol- you mentioned CJís anemia and him wanted to keep the house warmer which may explain something I have noticed also. Bob was told to start taking iron pills and he has wanted the house warmer. I tend to stay busy so I am always a little warm. That was great news about CJís eye visit! They always let me go into the lobby with Bob but it is a very big lobby and they can social distance the chairs.

Marlene- I hope the cataract surgery goes well! I had both eyes done years ago and it was so easy. I just hated that I couldnít bend over to even unload the dishwasher.

Cecile- it has been so dry here that I worry that our leaves will just turn brown and drop off with no color.

Allie- I hope the evaluation goes well! *ITís great to hear that Storm is doing well.

Peggy- the baby is precious! Thank you for sharing the photos! *We had to have our carpet stretched a few years back. There is still one place in the hall that wants to rumple but I think it is just a difficult place.

Grace- I bought the porch paint when the weather was too warm. Then it went from that to 40ís. This entire week has been dreary.

Miller- it sounds like you have a busy productive day planned. I have to see the ear doctor at 12:30 pm today and it is a 30 minute drive. I now wished I never went to the ear doctor. I donít dare wear the hearing aid outside the house because they come off too easy with masks. I never put them in yesterday and did fine. *Your GIF is cute!!

Good Morning!

Good news to start the day! CJ's eye specialist said that the blood vessels that were bulging in his good eye last time look much better this time. He doesn't have to go back for 6 mos. He also said that the cataract is not ready to come out, but he does suggest he have the procedure done when the time comes. At some point, though he will have to go back to where he bought his new glasses, because they are not right. He could see better out of his old ones. The specialist said he is not sure if the Rx is wrong or it is the way they made the glasses. But it was basically good news. I had to sit in the car for well over an hour waiting for him, as they wouldn't let me in the building. I learned a valuable lesson. 1. Park where the sun is not shining directly on your face, and 2. Do not knit when you are sitting behind the steering wheel. I ended up with a car sick feeling that lasted most of the day. I ended up just people watching and I talked to a couple of people on my phone until he came out. But we are so relieved all went well.

PEGGY - Baby River is just gorgeous!!!!! Praying that Cassie is feeling much better very soon.

MILLER - I love the GIF! I hope that Katie has a good day at the other facility today. I also hope that they were wrong about them not being nice. Maybe she will be pleasantly surprised. I sure hope so.

ALLIE - Fleas are one thing that I never had to deal with in the almost 20 years of caring for my fur kids. They were total indoor cats and never went out except to go to the vets. The last cat that my daughter had was a stray that they took in and she would go outside. Jen has dogs so the cat always wore a flea collar and that kept them at bay. I hope Storm is feeling her old self again soon.

I got thinking about my boys yesterday and was missing them a lot. I saw a picture that one of my friends had posted of a painting that she has done of her chocolate lab that had passed away. It was so lifelike and stunning, I thought that would be a nice tribute to my boys. I emailed her for a price. CJ had said that if I wanted it, that would be my Christmas present. Well the price almost knocked me over. I really want it, but it could cost me more than $1000. So today I am going to search for another place that will do it maybe for less. This is not just copying a photo, but it is an actual painting. My friend said she sent the woman "dozens" of pictures, and she captured his personality perfectly. We will see. Wish me luck.

For today's toast, I am lifting my mug that was given to me by my ex father in law. He was the sweetest man I have ever met. I continued to stay close with him LONG after my divorce. He even sent CJ birthday card and signed them Love Dad. He passed a way 2 years ago at the age of 95. He was commander of the local VFW post for over 12 years. This mug is one several mugs he gave me commemorating, veterans, the missing, and those fighting. This is from Operation Iraqi Freedom from Kuwait Naval Base. I know it is early for Veteran's Day, but we should thank our Veterans every day for what they have done for us and for our country.

Wishing you all a safe and pleasant day.

Hi all. I learned to do something new and thought I'd show you all. I like what this "gif" says and I think this and hope for this for all of you!!

CECILE, thank you! *I haven't owned a sweater in a long time. I used to have one I loved. You talking about yours makes me want to order one online. I remember feeling so cozy in my old one.

SLIMMER, I hope at some point, when theyíre a bit older, you can get a pic of the baby birds so we can see them.

ALLIE, thank you! *Iím sorry they couldnít examine Storm. I think Katie has mentioned that they give folks prescriptions for Gapabentin and sometimes Trazadone so their pets will be more relaxed when they come into the vet hospital. *Iím sure youíre looking forward to returning to the thrift store. *Your sunroom sounds so lovely! *Iím sorry you woke up in pain. I hope all goes very well at your Bryn Mawr rehab appointment.

NANCY ELLEN, thank you! *Itís nice that you got to go to a church service. Randy showed me a video of the one at our church and, honestly, I think more people were still in the parking lot listening on their radios than were inside sitting in the pews. *Your clothes sound too good to give away. I need to finish purging my clothing closet and donate the clothes to Goodwill or Helping Hand. Some of my things are truly like new, but they are a size that I doubt I ever get back to.

KATHRYN, thanks so much! *Youíve done an amazing job of losing 50 lbs - that is something to be very proud of!!! Weíre always here if you need encouragement and support along the way. Sometimes I have used the ďPANIC! GET HELP IMMEDIATELYĒ button on the message boards. Theyíre usually good about answering quickly.

CAROL, Iím with CECILE - I feel like Iím traveling around the world just seeing your mugs!! I canít imagine going to Antarctica - Iíll bet itís something special!! *I am so sorry about CJís eyes. That must be such an ongoing concern for him and for you. I hope, if he has the cataract surgery, that the surgeon is extremely careful to do everything just right. Iím sure theyíll take good care of him. *Randy has had his retinas detached repeatedly. I donít know if itís related to his diabetes or not - they havenít said so. Heís had surgery several times and it always worries me a bit. He has lost a little of his vision in one eye - not much - just enough for him to notice. His vision is definitely not what it used to be.

MARLENE, I hope your appointment went well. *Your chicken noodle soup sounds really delicious.

PEGGY, Iím sorry Cassie still has pain, but am glad to hear sheís getting better. Her baby is simply adorable - what a precious little sweetie!!!

GRACE, Iím happy to hear you are back to normal again!! Being that sick is distressing, I know. *Well Done! for for sorting and tossing paperwork! Iím sure youíre glad to have that done.

I donít have too much news to share. Randy is at church practicing guitar with friends. Katie is in her room resting, as she wasnít feeling well today. Tomorrow she has to go to a different location where sheís never worked before and everyone at the vet hospital told her the people there are not very nice. I donít think sheís looking forward to it.

I did my PT today and a seated yoga dance video. Also some housework and cooking. Now Iím going to read my new book.

Have a good evening, everyone, and a happy day tomorrow!

Good evening team, This has been a blah, raw, rainy day. I had no idea that it was going to rain and had planned to finish painting my deck before we enclose it with 1/4 ď wire mesh, to keep out the rodents. The day wasnít a total waste, since I finally was in the right frame of mind to sort and toss paperwork, so I did that instead.

ALLIE, I hope you enjoy your newly redecorated sunroom! It sounds divine! Iím sorry that the vet couldnít handle Storm. I donít even have pets but I had fleas in here, in the early summer. I use to see them on my white socks and tried to kill them before they jumped off. My DD thinks they were from the squirrels that frequent my yard. At any rate, they finally went away, after I bought 2 different flea repellents. I bought special flea foggers but never had to use them.

MARLENE, Itís a great night for chicken soup! I wonít make it ďfrom scratchĒ but will order some and pay special attention to the sodium content, since sodium is the ďdeal breakerĒ for me.

PEGGY, Your GGD is precious! Such a sleepy angel! I hope Cassieís pain goes away soon!

Thank you all for your warm wishes for my health after my sick day. Iím back to ďnormalĒ again!

Have a good evening!

Grace

emoticon to all my friends on this team!

Peggy - that is such a pretty picture of the baby! - I'm happy to read that Cassie is getting better. Prayers are still going her way!

Allie - We never had pets at our house. My parents always said that cats and dogs were to be kept outdoors on farms. I knew a lady who had a cat and the cat had fleas. When I got to her house she had the cat put down and she was cleaning the house with a special soap that the vet had sold them. She had the upstairs done and she was starting the downstairs. The sheets were washed and on the line. She immediately recruited my help. Every time I'd say I was done, she would find something else for me to do. I called home to tell mom I would not be home for supper.

I shall be back later... emoticon

Happy Tuesday

The wall to wall carpeting downstairs was very rumpled. We had it tightened today and it looks like brand new carpeting. Thursday we are getting it cleaned.

Slimmer, congrats at Onederland. I hope I spelled that right.

I texted Cassie this morning and she had just been to the doctor and she was impressed how well she is doing. Cassie said she still is in pain but it is getting better.

I wanted to put 2 more pictures but SP said I had no more photos.

Good afternoon team:

I have been very busy. I have to wash all the bedding and linens. I have to clean the house from top to bottom.

Storm is getting some much needed sleep now that the dastardly fleas are leaving/dying.

I hope everyone has a good day.

I am going to Bryn Mawr rehab tomorrow for two different pt evaluations. When I woke up the right side of my face was hurting and so was my right ear.

Good morning!

We had rain during the night. They said on the news last night, we are to have intermittent rain until Thursday! Something to look forward to! emoticon

Slimmer - Sorry about the mistake about the ONEderland. When I reached it I got off the scale and on three times to make sure I was seeing right. - It must be so cute to see the three baby birds!

Carol - I do so enjoy seeing your mugs! I get the impression I get to travel without leaving my house!

Allie - The foliage was at its best last week. Now it's turning brown and the leaves are falling, On the newscast last evening, the lady said that north from here there were going to be a few melting snow flurries. I didn't want to hear that right now!

Ellen - I wear jeans around the house with long sleeve sweaters during the winter. When it gets chilly I wear a heavy sweater over it. During the summer I wear shorts and short sleeve tops. - In the morning I drink coffee, in the afternoon I usually drink water and the odd time I'll have green tea then I switch to water.

Have a nice, happy and healthy Tuesday!

Good morning everyone. I've got an appointment with the eye doctor to set a date for cataract surgery. I got up early and have a pot of chicken noodle soup ūüć≤ cooking. That will be an easy supper.

It will be in the 70's the next few days. Hope to get the clothes closets ready for winter.

Good Morning!

CJ is off today. He just left to go to the foot Dr for his "pedicure". He will come home for an hour and then we will leave for the Retina specialist. He will be dilated, so I will be the designated driver. They are going to evaluate to see if his diabetic eye disease has gotten any worse, and then also discuss if he should think about having the cataract on his right eye removed. He is almost totally blind in his left eye from toxoplasmosis, a parasite that invaded his eye back in the late 70's. It destroyed his retina and left him with only a tiny bit of peripheral vision in his left eye. He has not had a flare up since '89. But because he has no vision in that eye, having the cataract procedure in his good eye is risky. But on the other hand if he doesn't, he will go blind anyway. I think that is CJ's biggest fear, going blind. I feel badly for him. We will see what the Dr says today.

ELLEN - I don't think you will be the slowest loser here this month. I have not moved from where I was last month. Up one, down one, up one, down one. The last couple of days, I have not been able to get myself moving. I have great intentions when I get up, but like yesterday, I almost fell asleep in my chair after lunch. I think this election and the dreary days we have had this month are just getting me down. With CJ's anemia, he is always cold, so the house is warmer than usual, which makes me dopey feeling. I will figure this out,

ALLIE - My big Frankie was like Storm. He would not let the vet touch him. And weighing 25 pounds or more didn't help. The vet would call him into the examining room, "Bring in the lion!" He was already taking Prozac. What I ended up doing was getting the mobile vet who would come to the house. She was wonderful. She sat and just talked to him on Frankie's turf and gave him a few treats. He responded to her, and he let her examine him. She was a gift from heaven. I liked her so much that I kept her for Hastings after Frankie passed. He liked her too, and even did his surgery here. She had a little OR in her big truck that she brought with her to the house.

SLIMMER - Congratulations on being in ONEderland!!!! I know that is a great feeling. You are doing great!!!! 3 baby birds!!! I hope they do well. Can't wait to see pictures of the little ones. I bet they will be very cute.

KATHRYN - You have worked so hard to get where you are. You have done a great job. I wish I could get off this plateau. I have been too sedentary and have eaten too much salt. I know what I need to do. Now to push myself to do it.

Well, time to raise my mug for a safe and productive day. Today's mug is one that my cousin brought back for me from her cruise to Antarctica. This mug is from Punta Arenas, Chile. It is on the Strait of Magellan and is where they sailed from heading to Antarctica.

Everyone enjoy your day!

Nancy glad you are having some good energy.

Slimmer and Miller emoticon on your weight loss you two are doing great!!! I am back on track and hope to see the scale going in the right direction again.

Grace glad you are being better.

Hello all I am glad you are here and thank you for all the help you have given me to lose 50 pounds but I still need your help daily. I face food addiction every day. I am handling it as best I can but it is hard when our caregivers give us food or need to go to McDonald's for coffee every time we go out shopping. I was good today and just had a Diet Coke from McDonalds.

Hubby had s good night last night and did not need me until 8am. He was fine to be left alone while our caregiver took me off shopping at two different Goodwill. Wednesday when she comes back we are going to a one the next city over

I had a spurt of fall energy and have been doing major cleaning, moving summer clothes to the back of closets and fall and winter to the front. Plus I have been sleeping late losing my "me time" on the computer before the household wakes up. So, I am just going to jump right into the conversations. emoticon

Oh, one other thing....the tracking of food on here compared to the calories burned on my Garmin tracker is running just about right. When I have a deficit of 300 to 400 calories, I tend to lose a few ounces every day. So, I am going to be the slowest loser on here!

Allie-Fleas! I am rather allergic to them and once went to the doctor about the big red spots on my back. He told me it was fleas and then I remember sitting in a friendís garage playing with her dogs. It was so embarrassing ! Your sun room sounds so nice looking! Our church opened up to two services so we made a reservation and went on Sunday morning. There were very few people there.

Slimmer- Congratulations on ONEderland! emoticon That is awesome! We will get there one step, one calorie, one day at a time!

Cecile- I am trying to drink more hot tea and less coffee on these chilly days. I have been drinking a herbal spice tea that I just love!

Miller- thank you so much for caring! emoticon It means a lot that I am missed. *Congratulations on the weight loss! You will get there! It might be two down and one up but sooner or later you will achieve your goal. I think you are wise not to get down to too small a number. They say a little weight is good. emoticon

Bonnie- it is interesting about clothes on here. I tend to wear jeans out and looser clothes around the house. When I was moving clothes I moved a couple of nice summer pants and some lovely winter pants suits. Part of me says to give them away but then I think I might want to wear them at some point. *My oldest sister (they are both 79) just flew to Kentucky to visit a dear friend for a week. My DH and I need to be more adventuresome and do some exploring! It sounds like your friends are also adventuresome and travel.

Grace- I have experienced the kind of dizziness you described. Like you, I think it is drainage in my ears. I am so glad you feel better!

Carol- your two cups gave me a BIG Smile! I like what CJ about your cup use reflecting your mood!

Peggy- I so love the change of seasons with all the fall leaves that I canít imagine living in the south now. Plus if I donít get rain often, I am so unhappy and pout. emoticon

Well, the Chiefs football game is on so I will close for now.

Good evening team:

Grace: I am pleased you are feeling better.

Peggy: I am enjoying nice weather here also.

Carol: I love your most recent mug. When I have to do a breathing treatment for my asthma, I feel like the cheshire cat.

Slimmer: Congrats on reaching onederland.

Bonnie: I hope you have a wonderful time with your friends and the weather cooperates.

Miller: emoticon on your two pound loss.

Cecile: I bet the foliage is beautiful in Canada right now. The trees are just starting to turn.

I took Storm to her appointment with the veterinarian this afternoon. They couldn't get her to come out of the carrier so they had to take it apart to get her out.

When she got out she starting chasing the tech and the vet around the room and trying to attack them and growling at them.

The vet called me and said she was unable to give Storm a complete exam. She said I would have to get a script for Glucoasmine. I would have to give it to her the night before and one hour before her next visit. She needs to be sedated.

They said she has fleas. I dosed her with flea medication that is good for 3 months. I set off 4 foggers in my home and Storm and I are sitting outside for a couple of hours while they do their work.

I decided my home needed some sprucing up. I painted the sun room, got a new lamp, a couple of colorful rugs at Ikea and put up some curtains I got at a thrift store last year. They are from Martha Stewart and now the sun room looks great. I have a dropped ceiling in the sun room and I need to replace several ceiling tiles. I was able to get the tiles at Lowes for a fourth of what they usually cost. I will have my son put them up because they are hard to install.

My minister from church called me last week and I went to church on Sunday. They are planning on opening the thrift store up again. I am going in this Thursday to help them get some things in order.

I hope everyone has a good evening and a good week.

Hi all.

CAROL, I need to try Glucosamine and Chondroitin with MSN. Maybe it would help my knees. *Fun mug!

SLIMMER, Congratulations on being in "One-derland!" that is AWESOME!!!

BONNIE, your day with friends sounds like it will be a lot of fun!!

PEGGY, someone else mentioned Cassie. I hope she and the baby are doing very well.

CECILE, I finally realized yesterday afternoon that I need to slip out of my Birkenstock sandals and put on some warmer shoes. Sure enough, when I did that, the painful arthritis in my knee eased off. As you said, it is October!

GRACE, I hope you're still feeling well this morning.

NANCY ELLEN, I feel like you haven't posted in a while and I'm concerned about you. I hope you're well and just keeping busy. Hugs if you need some!!
emoticon

I lost over 2 lbs this week - I'm very happy about that. Randy and I actually ended up getting take-out from McDonalds last night so I was afraid I had blown all my hard work throughout the week. So glad I still had a loss. Of course, one pound of that was one I had regained last week, so I'm really only a little over one pound down from where I originally was, but my goal is to lose a pound a week, so I'm happy. I think I've lost about 9 lbs so far. If I can keep losing a pound a week, it'll be 52 lbs in a year and that sounds good to me. I only want to get down to about 150, not down into the 120's like when I was young. When I got down to 145 some years ago, a person at my church thought I had cancer or something, so I guess I don't look good when I lose too much.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Good Morning, Team Sisters,
It's 60 degrees right now outside and the sun just came out. Supposed to be in the mid 70's every day this week with no rain. Thursday it may hit 80.

@Grace - Sorry to hear you had a dizziness event. I'm glad to hear that you are okay now. I don't get dizziness often but every once in awhile I get stomach aches. I can't put my finger on what causes them. Drinking some ginger tea usually cures it.

@Carol - Your Cheshire cat mug really made me smile this AM. Thanks for that.

As for what I wear -- I wear jeans all the time. I guess you can tell I don't go anywhere "dressy". I do have a pair of black pants that I wear to funerals. Lately I've been wearing a long sleeve tee shirt and regular long sleeved shirt under a very thin flannel jacket-shirt while I'm in the house. Since our house is made of cinder block, it stays cooler inside than outside. That's nice in the Summer but really CHILLY in the winter--especially before we put the heat on.

I try to wait as long as possible to turn any of the heaters on as our electric baseboard heat is very expensive. But, last night I did have Harry turn a couple of the heaters on as I was "freezing"--even with a blanket over me on the sofa while watching TV. We shouldn't have to use them this week though.

@Slimmer - Good for you for reaching the 100's again. Isn't it nice when you can actually SEE the weight loss on your body. That certainly is motivation to keep going.

Tuesday we are going to see our friends, Charlie & Linda. We haven't seen them since before February. I'm so excited. We are going to have a picnic at a park down in Virginia. Finally, I'm actually going to get out-of-state and have great conversation with friends. I need this.

Everyone, have a wonderful day.

Good morning!

Grace - Good to hear you are feeling better. Also glad to hear that your son is on his way with a carbon monoxide detector. That should put your mind at ease.

Carol - I love you Cheshire cat cup. It did indeed put a smile on my lips!

Slimmer - I hope your visit at your eye doctor is successful.

Peggy - How is Cassie doing?

How are the California fires going? We are not hearing from them lately.

Today it's not raining but it's cool. It's bright and it's good for the morale!

Have a nice, happy and healthy Monday!

Hi All.. looks like it might rain.. and I don't have a clue if it is or not today

Today I get my yearly eye exam... and going to tell him I think it is time to get my other eye fixed.

Grace... glad you are feeling better... what do you think did that? I think some of my dizziness came from dehydration... and now that I am trying to work on my sugar.. I am having a big glass of water right before I go to bed.. that helps thin out the sugar.. but I have always read that it also is good to keep away strokes and heart attacks.. and Shirley used to say it also was good to keep away UTI's

Carol... that cup is really funny! When I was at the big thrift store yesterday they had LOTS of cups but nothing that looked interesting. I never use a cup.. or I should say I have only use a cup with a rooster on it I got for $1 and I use it now and then with chicken broth.... Tea I used to like but I can't handle the caffeine in it now.. and can't even think to make hot chocolate and I don't like coffee.. Congratulations on the 10 lbs loss!

Today is my weigh day and I was down another lb... probably got help from ..something I eat gives me diarriah.. I don't know what it is... I am thinking it is my favorite water drink.. the CLEAR that is also clear looking the peach.. it is really good.. but it seems that it happens after I drink it.. otherwise all I had was my egg bacon and salad with a little chopped up deli turkey meat and the salad dressing I always have.. and my turkey bacon and I did have Diet Jello yesterday

Scales now read... 199.75.. I made it again.. to Onederland!
Total lost 88.25 and now Only 61.75 of that ..72 lbs I started to lose 7 weeks ago.

I do like my new digital scale... it is a FAST read in the morning.. I don't have to see if the bubble on the Dr. scale is going to be perfectly in the middle... and this way I know if I am up or down or the same fast... and like Ellen said if I am up I need to do something right then that day.

I am thinking after the Dr visit that I will get a Wendy's hamburger and have half of it with a salad.. I have only had a little hamburger one time in 7 weeks... and my favorite diabetic book Does.. say to have red meat one or maybe 2 times a week to get the vitimins or other stuff it has in it... I am surprised I used to eat like 2 lbs a week easily before.. it just seems more like rubber when I cook it.. and I more like the 2 cans of mushrooms I put in it.
...he also said a little (tiny bit) of onion is ok too.. I've been buying pre chopped onion at Ingles and adding it to my chicken salad and other salads for flavor.
........but.. something is still keeping my sugar from 134 to 156... but only the cherry tomatoes that little onion and then like 1 carb in salad dressing and my water drink .. really have any carbs I am eating.. so something is Not Telling the Truth...
.......as little carbs as I am eating I should be under 100 now...
...he used to say have 2 cherry tomatoes.. just read he said.. 1 in a salad is enough more moves the sugar up.

When I look in the mirror.. I can see it looks like I actually do have a neck.. and that my shoulders have dropped down from my head.. or that my head is not sitting on top of my shoulders now as much.

I walked yesterday and made it the whole distance.. with only a slight pain at the top of my hip on the side... I think maybe because I always sit cross legged in my chair .. that my legs are more used to being twisted to the far side.. but sitting like an Indian is easier than letting my legs hang down.. weird hughhhh?

Good Morning!

GRACE - Every so often I experience what you went through yesterday. When Vertigo hits it is sudden. Once I had to crawl to the bathroom because I couldn't stay standing up, and another time CJ had to hold me up to get there. Mine is caused by congestion. I am a side sleeper and favor my left side. If my sinuses get clogged, they tend to drain down into the ear and then the fluid in each ear is not equal causing dizziness which causes nausea. I take a decongestant and lie down. It usually passes after several hours. I'm glad yours is getting better and hope you are MUCH better today. Keep us posted.

KATHRYN - That Subway sandwich sounded wonderful! When I was working, we would sometimes stop on the way home at Walmart on the way home and pick up a few things. They always seem to have a Subway inside, and when you walk in, you smell the fresh bread. I could never leave without a sandwich. That would be my supper. But with the pandemic, I have only been in a Walmart once, and there were so many people, I grabbed what I wanted and booked it out of there. So no Subway. CJ has a Dr appt tomorrow, maybe we will stop for lunch on the way home and get takeout. I'm sorry Ron had a rough night Sat night. I hope last night was more peaceful for both of you. Take care.

CECILE and MILLER - I find my arthritis bothers me not so much with the cold, as when there is a storm coming. I have started to take Glucosamine and Chondroitin with MSN. I know several people who swear by that for joint pain. It can't hurt. I know my knees have not been aching since I started taking it. Time will tell.

Well, this morning I got up, dressed and came to the kitchen for coffee. CJ found me staring at all 7 of my racks of mugs. His comment was "Are you trying to decide what mood you are in today?" Yeah, that was about it. I was looking for one in the size I wanted that I have not showed to you. Well, this is what I decided on. This is a BIG mug that my son brought back from Disney World for me. It is the Cheshire Cat. He gave me a little grin this morning. I hope it does for you all too.

Everyone have a wonderful day!!!!

Grace, I'm so happy you're feeling so much better!!! And I'm also very glad your son is bringing over a carbon monoxide detector. My mother was sick a long time and I was beginning to think she had stomach cancer or something, when the man came to do his yearly check of her heating unit and there was a small carbon monoxide leak. It was scary. I'm sure you'll feel much safer to have it there.

MILLER, CECILE AND MARLENE, I feel 100% better now. I have had 2 toasts, 3 cheese sticks and a bottle of vanilla instant breakfast (to wash down my pills). I don't have tea or saltines. I did have decaf coffee and Crystal Light.
My son is on his way over with a carbon monoxide detector, just in case.
Thank you for your concern! It feels good to know people care and are looking in on me, even if it's virtually.

Grace, I know I mentioned eating toast in my message to you, but saltine crackers are also good for nausea (you probably already know that). I like Marlene's suggestion of tea if you don't have ginger ale. Sweet tea helps me best.

Grace, hope you are feeling better and the dizziness has let up. You probably don't have any ginger ale. That would be good for your nausea. Maybe try some tea. You don't want to get dehydrated. If you aren't improving maybe you could call an Urgent Care provider Keep us updated when you feel up to it. We worry that you are alone. Hugs. Marlene

Hi all,

ALLIE, I hope youíre enjoying your weekend, too. Hugs to you and Storm.

CAROL, thank you! *Congratulations on being down 10 lbs - that is Great!! *I never thought about the different yarns and where they came from and how some might feel better than others. We went to a farm at the very top of a mountain on our last trip to the NC mountains and they were shearing sheep that day and there were alpacas and llamas, too. *Todayís mug is really cute!

CECILE, I wonder if you find that the cold affects your arthritis, too? Iíve had more pain the last couple of days and the temps are colder than they were.

KATHRYN, Iím sorry Ron had a bad night. Iím sure heís grateful that youíre there to help when heís having a rough time. *It made me smile when you said that the jeans you got married in are too big now. Thatís awesome!! I wish I could say the same for my wedding dress. I was so slim back then and really took it for granted.

GRACE, Iím very sorry youíve been so sick. Iím glad youíre feeling a bit better now. Iím hoping itís just a ďbugĒ that wonít last too long. Itís good you donít have a fever. Take care and rest and maybe tomorrow youíll be all better.
emoticon emoticon

Randy is home from church, but has to go back to get his case with all his music in it. My brother and a friend and Randy may be having a Zoom ďJamĒ session tonight. He should probably have one case for church music and another for outside activities. Katie called at lunch and said theyíre having a really hard day at the vet hospital. Not enough people were scheduled to work so theyíre super-busy and theyíve had several emergency cases, as well. Iíve been doing some things around the house and a bit of cooking, but mostly reading. I found new books from the library to download via Overdrive to my Kindle. I sure do appreciate SLIMMER telling me about that - it has been a joy to have access to so many books.

Hope the week ahead is a good one for all.

Good afternoon team! I woke up at 6:30 and was VERY dizzy and had the dry heaves. I barely made it to the bathroom by holding onto "stuff". This went on for 3 hours and then I fell asleep and slept until 11:30. I feel about 50% better than I did earlier but absolutely not all the way better. I have to hold my head very still and I'm keeping my "bucket" close by. My temp is 96%

Hubby had a rough night last night and I was up three times. I went to bed early at 7:30 and did not get until 6:30. So even with off and on sleeping I got enough sleep.

Today going to go to Subway for my weekly sub. I am getting a Veggie Delite sub, I have not had one in some time. I am also getting my weekly Diet Coke. Only having these things weekly will help save money and be healthier than having them everyday.

My exercise today will be walking around the neighborhood and caring for my disabled hubby who is a functioning quadriplegic with limited use of his arms and legs.

All summer I wore the same two pairs of jeans shorts, one longer than the other but both almost to my knees. This winter I have three pairs jeans to wear one black and one with flowers on the side. I got married in a pair like them but they are two big now.

Good morning!

It's really humid today, It's not really good for arthritis. I had a good night and really didn't want to get up this morning. However I didn't want to miss mass and that was the incentive to get out of bed.

Have a nice, happy, healthy and blessed Sunday!

Good Morning!!!

GRACE - You will need a heavy sweater this morning! When I got up it was 34 degrees! I got so chilly last night when I went to bed, I put some stretch pants on with my nightshirt. I thought I was getting sick. I got up and took my temperature, it was 97. I guess I was just overtired. I sometimes get cold when I am exhausted. Church is outdoors this morning. It is going to be COLD! I will watch from home today. Next Sunday is Reformation Sunday, a HUGE day in the Lutheran Church. He will be doing Confirmation and it will also be outdoors. I will bite the buck up and go to that one and take some pictures.

MILLER - I too am like the Missionary as I wear jeans most of the time, and I love my tshirts in the summer and sweaters in the winter.
I can't take Prednisone, but when I had my bad lung infection many years ago, they gave me Predinisilone which is similar. It packed on the weight also. I am still struggling to lose it even though I have been off the meds for years.Of course I haven't been great about trying either until lately. I am down about 10. 30 more to go. I hope you are able to find a course of action that will help you control the pain.

SERENA - I agree, retiring sounds like a good option. You will have more time to spend on the lodge, the grandkids and your furkids. I know you enjoy your job, but when it is no longer fun, that is the time to be done, as long as you can afford to do that. Good luck with the closing on the ranch.

So yesterday I made another hat. I used a heavy really soft yarn that worked up really fast and the pattern was simple. I was done by "jello time" 9 PM every night, CJ and I have a dish of sugar free jello with a dash of whipped cream and a cherry while we watch TV.
I think today I will start a neck warmer. I bought a hank of yarn from a ranch out in Wyoming . The yarn is made of Merino wool, alpaca and bison hair. A pattern came with it. I will try the pattern first with regular yarn to see how it comes out before I try the expensive yarn. I don't think I will buy it again. It was billed as soft, but when I put the skein against my neck, I could feel the scratchiness from the sheeps wool. I can wear alpaca, but sheep wool I have a hard time with. We will see.

Well, it is time to get ready for church. So I raise my mug to you all for a wonderful day. Today's mug is a silly one that my former boss had given me. It is really bright yellow in color. The nose on the face sticks out and makes you want to rub it for luck. I love the expression. That is how I feel sometimes in the early morning. LOL!

Have a blessed Sunday!

Grace, I have to admit I'm kind of like the missionary, too. I wear black denim pants most of the time, unless I'm wearing my black lounging pants around the house. Katie says she can't tell the difference between them, but that's silly because if I pull on the sides of the lounging pants, they look like big clown pants - so much fabric! The black denim is much tighter and more like a boot cut jean or something. Then I wear different tops. But even then, I'm not very original. If I find a top that fits well and is the right price, I'll buy several in various colors. I'm definitely Not into fashion for myself, but I have surely loved watching Project Runway all these years!! My mother made all my clothes when I was growing up, so I really didn't get to choose clothes for myself or go clothes shopping. I think that's why I don't care more about it.

MILLER, I'm like the missionary on the bottom half of my body. I have 4 pairs of identical culottes and 4 pairs of identical capris, so it LOOKS like I never change my clothes. However,
I do have a bunch of different tops. By staying an extra month in CT, I've created a challenge for myself. Now, I have to wear full-length slacks/pants and right now I only have a few very old "activewear" pants and a couple of pairs of semi-fit tights. The good thing is I really don't go anyplace except to visit my GGD, curbside grocery pickup, and a very occasional doctor appointment. I just ordered another set of Cuddle Duds, to "bridge" the season and wear under my slacks/pants, and hopefully, they will suffice until December 5th, when I head to FL.

Thanks, GRACE!!! I found some good info online about how to prevent weight gain on prednisone and it's very helpful. I even found an article specifically geared to losing "Prednisone weight." I think now that I'm on a low enough dosage that my appetite is under control that if I can follow the recommendations about reducing sodium and increasing potassium it will help a lot. I had no idea about the fluid retention component, as the doctor had never mention that, but it's in all the online articles I've seen now. He did tell me over a year ago that it would increase my appetite. I told Randy and Katie the other night that I feel so bloated all the time that it feels like I might be carrying around a big tumor. Sounds gross, but I guess it is water retention (and fat!)

I'm cold, too, and it's 62 here. I have on knee socks and was wearing a jacket earlier. *I tend to stick with the same two mugs for my coffee or tea. When Randy makes the coffee, he likes to bring me a white mug, but I like my green one or my Grandfather mountain one. It's funny how we get into habits of using the same things over and over.

That reminds me of a missionary I read about years ago. I think she had five or seven sets of clothes that were exactly the same. That way, she simplified her life and knew what she was wearing everyday - and everyday was the same. Don't think I could go that far to simplify, though! She said she wanted to use her brain power on other things - not on picking out clothes to wear.

Good afternoon team! It's sunny but cold and windy. Of course the "cold" is all relative. It's actually 54 degrees and the "feels like" because of the wind is 52. I guess I'm extra sensitive to the cold.
MILLER, I just googled "How does Prednizone cause weight gain" and there's LOTS of info on the subject, even websites that say "How to prevent weight gain while on Predizone" You should check them out! Basically, they all say it causes fluid retention by interfering with your electrolytes, especially sodium, which is why there is a weight gain from fluid retention.

Re the conversation about the cups - I use the same cup, glass, bowl, utensils, plate, and frying pan over and over and just wash them and reuse them.

emoticon Hi friends,

SLIMMER, it sounds like you found some great items at the thrift store! *I hope the baby that hatched is doing well. *My best friendís hubby loves to watch American Pickers - I guess thatís the show you mentioned? *If I could keep my calories down to 1200 like you, I think Iíd lose a lot of weight. I feel like Iím doing well if I stay under the top calorie range that SparkPeople gives me by 100.

CECILE, Congratulations to Jess on her English test!! *Great you got to see Val! *I'm sorry you're having trouble with your fingers. *I make chicken pot pie, but itís the easiest recipe ever. I guess itís ďcheating,Ē because I use pre-made pie crusts, canned Swansonís chicken breast, and canned Veg-all veggies along with a can of cream of chicken soup. I got the recipe from a cookbook that Katieís elementary school sold. One of her teacherís shared it. Iím sure the homemade version is much more healthy.

CAROL, it amazes me to see all the wildlife you have at your home. Iíve told Randy about it - the bears are particularly awesome, as we donít have them here in the Piedmont of NC - I think theyíre only in the NC mountains. *Whenever I think of Dwight Eisenhower, itís to think about how heís the first President I remember in my lifetime. *Your knitted hats are beautiful. They remind me so much of the ones Mama and Daddy used to knit, though I have to say the crisscross pattern is more complicated than the ones they made.

SERENA, even in my younger days, thereís no way I could do all that you do!! If I were you, Iíd probably retire, as it all sounds so stressful. Youíre doing very well to manage everything!!

KATHRYN, I hope yíall enjoyed the fried chicken. As Iíve mentioned before, fried chicken is my favorite food. *Enjoy your time in Midtown. Hope you find some white tennis shoes.

GRACE, I loved ďSeptember,Ē but I remember the last time my mother read it, she said it made her sad. ďVoices in SummerĒ is another that I like (I love all Rosamunde Pilcherís books), but itís as close to a tiny ďthrillerĒ as her books get. Itís not a thriller, but it has a bit of a little thriller component to part of it. I hope you like it.

NANCY ELLEN, it's sounds fun to use a different mug each day like Carol, and now you, are doing. *Iím sorry about your back pain. Is it pain in your upper or lower back? I read in my online portal doctorís notes that I have degenerative disc disease - I thought I did, but couldnít remember. Itís getting to the point where Iím actually having to write down all my diagnoses. The only thing my rheumatologist said this time about my weight is that Prednisone definitely caused it. Even when I said, ďI know the Prednisone didnít put the food in my mouth,Ē he went on to say that the Prednisone caused it. He didnít say what to do about it, but to be honest I didnít remember to ask him for suggestions. I did find an article online about how to avoid weight gain on Prednisone and some of the things I am Not doing is eliminating processed foods and intaking more potassium. I need to work on both of those. I have cut down on sugar and am trying to get more veggies and fruit, but Iím truly embarrassed by how few veggies & fruit I eat. At my best, I only get four a day and I have to do better than that. Randy and I were talking about how to make ourselves eat more greens, etc.

Iím proud of myself because Katie wanted to get KFC today for lunch today and I also ordered some, but didnít eat/drink the biscuit, cookie or soft drink that came with it. I ate two drumsticks (they gave me three for some reason), but pulled the skin off those two. I did eat the mashed potatoes and gravy. I know thatís still not great, but what could have been an over 1,000 calorie lunch was 400 instead. Weíre having a very low-cal dinner so it should be alright.

I finally heard back from my rheumatologist. He said he understood my concerns about Methotrexate and that we can continue with reducing the Prednisone and only use the other if I canít tolerate the pain. I did have to use a cane this morning for a bit, but Iím fine now. Another of the side effects of Methotrexate is hair thinning or hair loss. I went to the ďAsk a patientĒ site and read the comments of folks being treated with it. It doesnít sound good.

Itís a gorgeous day and I enjoyed getting out and riding around with Randy this morning. We laughed and talked a lot. (Heís much more even-tempered now that heís on Prozac!) Heís gone to his motherís now to get her groceries and Iím enjoying the quiet. His mother was supposed to get her hair done today, but doesnít feel up to it. There is a nurse coming twice a week to see her now because of the swelling in her feet and legs.

I canít believe the long lines at the polls when I watch TV. It looks like a record number of people are voting this year. Iím so glad we did absentee ballots and delivered them to the Board of Elections. I even followed up online and they are where they are supposed to be. Canít wait until the election is over - I wouldnít mind never hearing about politics again.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend. Hugs to all. emoticon

Good afternoon!

My fingers are not working too good lately! I'm having trouble typing!

Val came for a flying visit this morning. She forgot to pack a charger for Jess during her visit the week-end she visited. It was nice to see her.

Hope you all have a nice, happy and healthy Saturday!

Up at 3:30 today. I got enough sleep because I went to bed at 7:30. Just one of those days. I plan to go today to my old neighborhood Midtown for a nice long walk. I think I will go to the Goodwill while in the neighborhood. I hope to find a pair white tennis shoes.

Good Morning!

I was awake at 5 AM this morning. I just couldn't sleep anymore. It was pouring outside and dark, so I stayed in bed as long as I could and finally got up at 6. I finished knitting the green cable hat I was making, and sipped my coffee watching the sun come up. CJ slept until 8 so I was just finishing the hat when he came out for coffee. By 9 the sun was out and the sky is gorgeous. But it is going to be cold today,
So these are the last 3 hats that I have completed. The next one will be another easy one. The cables in the green hat were hard on my fingers because they crossed in different directions, and I really had to pull the yarn and they knitted tightly.

ELLEN - It is fun to use a different mug each day and have it bring back little memories. I think that is why I have so many. Thankfully I have a tolerant husband. LOL! I hope your back is feeling better today!

GRACE - I read in bed mostly and stick to cozy mysteries as well. They are light reading, and there is so much heaviness in the world right now, it is an escape for me.

CECILE - Chicken pot pie is delicious and yes, a lot of work. I have a friend who makes a chicken pot pie soup in her crock pot. That was yummy also! Hmmmm. I think I may try to find that recipe. I am inspired!

Well, it is time to get moving. I was a slug yesterday, so today I will be moving a lot more.
Everyone have a lovely day!!!!

We were up early, dressed and had our breakfast by 8 am. As I expected, the Amish chest was not delivered until 10:20. The rest of the morning was spent trying to help Bob with one thing after another. Then I worked on putting things back in the dresser. By 2:30 pm my back was killing me. So, I took some medication and read the rest of the afternoon. I just hate this back pain!!

Miller- has the doctor discussed the weight gain you have experienced with Prednisone? Could you take it when you need it for inflammation?

Grace- I can read a cozy novel in a couple of afternoons but novels like you read take longer. I liked the video you mentioned.

Kathryn- I dread weighing tomorrow. I indulged in a small bar of Halloween candy Bob bought.

Serena- since Jamie lives there also, what did he do for cleaning before you moved in? Is it because of all the dogs and the cat and the extra mess animals bring in?

Cecile- I helped Bob make a chicken pot pie once and it was SO much work! I admire Chantel for making it.

Carol- I thought of you this morning and decided to drink out of the many cups we have collected while traveling. My selection was a cup I bought 36 years ago at the Eden, Texas arts fair. It is delicate pottery cup. * I loved your descriptions of nature around you.

Slimmer- I have watched Pickers and I thought the history about the pieces they found was fascinating. I also like seeing the places they visited.

Good evening team! It was a quiet rainy day here in CT. I finally finished reading the book called "September" and started on another Rosamunde Pilcher book called "Voices In Summer". It's much shorter and more my "speed" since I'm a very slow reader. I wish I was a speed reader like Slimmer, but I only read in bed and just a couple of pages each night. Today, was an exception since I did some reading this afternoon.

I hope everyone has a good sleep tonight and a good start to the weekend!

Hello all,
Today going to the supermarket to buy chicken so our caregiver Lydia can cook some fried chicken for Ron. I am going to have one leg. I have weigh in tomorrow and don't want to be up to high. Going to McDonalds today and will only have a caramel iced coffee. I did my strength training routine and will do a power walk.

I listened to Demi Lovato and her song has a powerful message. It will mean he will have some scathing words to call her but she is a strong person and able to put into music what she and many of us are thinking/feeling.

I am so glad today is Friday. I won't be going to the ranch until Monday and took 3 days off just to destress. Between the job and the ranch and this place I am on overload.

I put off delivery of my Saoirse until spring which is one less stressor. We are discussing letting her actually stay there and taking a younger filly. The breeder was up front when she was foaled that she would keep her if I didn't have her under contract. The younger filly is beautiful and has the best bloodlines of all the babies.

We just bumped the closing date another week waiting on the insurance company to come back with their response to the extended water damage under the shower. The septic did get pumped even though I only got one lid dug. How was I supposed to know they needed two lids clear? Over here the septic companies do the digging!

Work is one meeting after another. 5 yesterday and an all day one today. I really need to get to Seattle for my ergonomic chair. I will call to see if anyone is in the office this afternoon.

The house is dirty and I don't have time to clean it. Although I have been cleaning stairs and dog hair constantly and bird seed once a week and bathrooms, Jamie is not seeing that and wants to bring in a housekeeper tomorrow. He says he has cleaned every time I am in Eastern WA working on the ranch so I am supposed to pay Heidi to clean tomorrow because he cannot see any of what I do. To h___ with it. I think we should hire her to come in anyway. This place is huge and I sure do not have time to deep clean it with running back and forth trying to sell a ranch and working full time. He better not expect me to clean the guest suite and cottage once it's up and running because it is not going to happen.

I have a meeting in about 5 minutes. I also have audits to do times 40 and staff evaluations to do. Maybe I won't be going to Seattle today.

Have a fantastic day everyone and just breathe.

I am Serena. I now live most of the time at a lodge on the western side of Washington state. I was ready to retire this past July but decided to transfer and stick around for another couple years. I don't think I will last another couple years. The ranch just sold and will close shortly and that will be my opportunity to pay off my new truck and my barn and finally leave the workforce behind! We are opening a destination airbnb and I will be working full time with that and training my new Gypsy

Good morning!

The sun is not out but it's not raining. Yesterday it was rain not rain then rain again - all day. Mario worked overtime until 11:30. His night was very short. He must be so tired today! He will be so short tempered tonight. I'm not looking forward to it.

Chantal made chicken pot pie for supper last night. It was so good. I knew I used to eat it but I couldn't remember from where. It was Jess who recognized it as a dish that my husband used to make.

My housework is nearly done. The living room needs to be dusted and I want to be doing it while I watch my program after lunch. I have dishes to wash after I eat my lunch and the dishwasher to empty. That's my day for today.

Jess says thank you for the good wishes that were sent to her for passing her exam. She was still on a high yesterday. Chantal said her teacher was very impressed with her passing grade.

Have a nice, happy and healthy day!

Good Morning!

I woke up this morning to find the bird feeder pole broken and the feeders smashed. Boo Boo was back. We have not seen him/her since the early summer. I pulled the Trail Camera chip and found it was a small bear about my height and a couple hundred pounds bigger around that was here around 11 PM last night. Must be getting ready for hibernation. We also had a fox a few days ago. Bunnies every night. So the wildlife are back. Here are a few of the pictures the trail camera took. It also got a nice one of CJ feeding the wild turkeys.

Well today is another rainy day. I seriously doubt the book study at the church tonight will be around the campfire. I would say probably it will be on ZOOM.
The new map came out for the State yesterday letting us know the hot spots for COVID. Sadly, the towns that our grandsons live in and the town Lily lives in are on that list. But my town and the town that my daughter lives in are in the best shape. we have less than 5 cases for the entire town. I just want to stay here where we are safe. I have always been a social sort of person, but this year has turned me into somewhat of a hermit. I really hope when we get a vaccine and things get back to normal, I don't still want to stay away from everyone.

KATHRYN - I hope you do well with your fasting days. I found that my weight was up a half pound this morning, but I had a bit more salt than normal yesterday. I will be very careful today, and will find it back down tomorrow, I am sure.

GRACE - I will have to check out that song.

Well, today, I raise my mug to us all, and to give equal time, today's presidential mug, is one that I bought while on vacation in Gettysburg a few years ago. We toured Pres Eisenhower's farm which is near the battle field. What a wonderful place!!!! I took a picture of both sides of the mug, as each side is very different. One side has the seal of the president in gold, and the other side has his name, nickname etc.

Everyone have a great day!

Hi All... looked real gloomy all day then a hint of sun

I drove to go walk and it was real sunny out there... could only do half what I normally do.. the hip is tightened up again.

Then went to the towns thrift store... Found a 20 x 14 in. custom metal frame actually with our towns courthouse in it.. but they are expensive to have ordered and made.. also got a 10in. tall wood carved Cow.. that is for putting soap in for a hand dispenser.. and then got a cramic duck that must be at least 12 in. tall and big enough to put plant in... found 4 CD's and 1 DVD.. cd's are only now 50 cents and got the Great Pinquin March for $1.00... I think I did good.. got all for $10...

I still see one baby alive.. and see 2 eggs... and had 2 babies tossed total.. so I don't know if the 2 eggs are infertal or if they are New eggs???

I still am finding the Ruku TV and all the free ?? apps confusing to use... if I could only know where to go to find the few... shows I like

I found I like watching... Pickers... 2 guys go out stopping asking to look in people's garages etc and buy items after looking all over.. then they sell it... Fun to see all they buy and the price they will get for their bargans... this show I did find.. but so far it is just one after the other.. I don't know how you get to see the most currant.

Miller.. glad you got some answers... you also can talk with your pharmacy... I alsway ask if they hear of bad reactions on meds etc

Kathryn.. do good on your two days of 500 calories... I find I can't go low any more for one being Diabetic.. I need the frequent meals... and the other... I can maybe go to around 1000 but I am finding I almost always eat around the 1200... Maybe that is why I hold my weight so good...
....Unless I am eating a lot of ice cream.. used to be Coke but I don't buy that any more.. maybe months ago when I am on the road... been months since I last had a Coke.. but if I am not eating Bad Carb things.. I eat normally around 1200..
....which is making a difference in losing right now... because I WAS walking everyday.. and I let my knee feel better after the Waterfall hikes... and those burned calories are making a difference in trying to lose.

Cecile... great on the 95% English test grade... I sure couldn't do that! Great Job!

Slimmer

Grace, thanks so much for letting us know about Demi Lovato's song, "Commander in Chief." Randy and I both listened and I watched. It's a wonderful heartfelt song and I almost shed some tears. If only...

Good afternoon team

Here's a quick "fly-by" post since I'm supposed to be working in the yard. I just wanted to thank those of you who answered my question about your preference for e-readers. After giving it much thought and reviewing my options I've decided to get a Kindle Paperwhite. I didn't bother with Amazon Prime Day because I don't like to buy on impulse and I'm leaving for FL in about 6 weeks, so will hold off and buy it after I get down there- one less thing to pack!
emoticon
One other quick thing- Demi Lovato was on the 2020 Billboard Awards last night and sang a song called "Commander In Chief". If you "google" it, you'll get to see/hear it. I know there are a few members on here who will appreciate the song.

NANCY ELLEN, I don't believe the doctor thinks I'm addicted to Prednisone - at least he's never mentioned anything like that to me. It's just that taking the Prednisone has reduced my inflammation a lot and sometimes it can actually sort of "cure" Polymyalgia Rheumatica after a long course of it. He thinks I'm in so much pain because the Polymyalgia Rheumatica isn't gone. When I reduce the Prednisone, my body inflammation goes up again and I feel more pain.

KATHRYN, I didn't know Ron was taking that medication. If I'd known that, maybe I would have been brave enough to try it. *I hope the 500 calorie fast days help, but try not to worry too much about a small gain - maybe it was water weight?

CAROL, as you know, I loved your pics and enjoyed looking at them all on Facebook last night. You sure do live in a lovely part of the Country!! And those horses and wildlife were all beautiful!!

Miller my hubby is on methorexate and I did not know of these side effects.

Today going to measure out everything I eat and not go over one serving of anything I eat. And some things taking half a serving. I have had a gain and need to turn that around. I am doing two 500 calorie fast days. I have done this before and it helped me.

Exercising with my peddler today

We stayed up late last night and I didnít wake up until 8 am. Tomorrow they are delivering the chest between 8 am and 10 am so we are going to have to do better than we did this morning! It is quite chilly this morning and turned on the heat!

Yesterday we moved the old antique chest of drawers downstairs and finished extending the driveway so Bob doesnít have to move his pickup for me to get out with my little car. It was really good exercise but the mid-80ís made me light headed toward the end. I also did my 40 minutes of physical therapy. This morning I did another video of classical stretch. I find it hard sometimes to follow videos.

Allie- IT is GREAT to see your post! I am so glad you are in a program for people who have suffered a concussion. It is so good to have tools for conquering health issues! *I totally understand how it feels after a wreck. I still react to cars that raced up to a stop sign wondering if they will stop. *I hope you find out what is wrong with Storm.

Cecile- tell Jess congratulations on that great grade in English. Is English a second language for her?

Peggy- that is great that you have a NP for a nurse. My neighbor is a RN and when I fainted she told me later that Bob should have called her.

Carol- I am like you with languages. I do fine with the reading and translating but the speaking and understanding is so hard for me. *I had never realized how much power our USA presidents have. I always thought Congress and the Supreme Court had more power than they do. It is so important for citizens to read carefully and select wise people to lead this country. *I loved your photos!

Miller- Did the doctor say why you are hurting so much? Is your body almost addictive to prednisone? I know Bob has gone through aches when he transition off one medication.

Thanks very much, CAROL. My doctor did say that the medication could help with transitioning me off of Prednisone - I guess that's why he prescribed it. And he did tell me it could cause fatigue, nausea, vomiting and problems with the liver. He also prescribed Folic Acid to offset that. He didn't mention the lungs or that it should only be used in people with cancer or other severe illnesses.

After reading about it, I really don't want to take it and I let him know I'd prefer to just reduce the Prednisone dosage even more slowly than we are already doing. My inflammation is still higher than normal, but not nearly as high as it used to be when I first started being treated for Polymyalgia Rheumatica. I'm afraid the doctor will get mad at me for not wanting to follow his recommendations, but Randy said I'm a "good patient" and it should be fine. I'm one of those people who is very afraid of trying new medications, especially ones with bad side effects. I wish I were more like Katie. She has been so brave all these years to give every medication prescribed for her conditions a good solid try. It's humbling that my daughter is braver than I am.

MILLER - Definitely ask the Dr about his reasoning for putting you on that medication. It is your right to know. The websites have to tell you all the worst case scenarios, and can be very scary, but being proactive with your health is important. I hope he can put your mind at ease.

Hi all.

I'm scared. My rheumatologist called me this morning and has sent in a prescription to my pharmacy for methatrexate. I shouldn't have read about it, because I read on Google that it should only be used for cancer patients or patients with other severe illnesses, as it can cause severe, life-threatening side effects and liver and lung damage. It did say that it's sometimes prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis patients. I don't have RA, but I have had trouble getting off of Prenisone without a lot of pain. I kind of wish I had just lived with the pain, kept going down on the Prednisone and not complained no matter how bad the pain got, because this is too scary.

I don't know what to do. emoticon

PS - Well, decided to email him my concerns... emoticon

Good Morning!

It is another beautiful day in New England! Yesterday I had a lovely day! I went grocery shopping in the morning, and the road up there was so pretty with fall colors, I decided to go out with my camera in the afternoon. Of course the best pictures, I didn't get because I was driving and I had cars on my tail and couldn't pull over, but that is ok. I did get some nice ones. I even was able to stop at a farm that is just in the center of my town and take some pictures of the horses in the pasture. I live in Brookfield, but I also drove around in East and West Brookfield as the whole area is pretty right now. So I got a bit of exercise and some nice fresh air. I even got a sweet picture of a mom and baby cow from another farm. I ended the day by going up to the river which is about a mile and a half from my house, and watched the sun set. It was not spectacular, but very peaceful.
Here are a couple of pictures from my trip

ALLIE - I hope Storm is ok. Please keep us updated! It is so nice to hear from you again!

CECILE - Congratulations to Jess and her English test! I am not one who learns languages easy. I took one year of French in school. It was awful. My accent was embarrassing. I am so impressed by people who can learn other languages. I have other gifts.

ELLEN - I agree with Allie, the Amish are wonderful craftsmen. Your new chest of drawers will last a lifetime.

PEGGY - I hope your knee is not infected. I'm glad you got sound advise from your neighbor. Take care!

SLIMMER - I hope your baby birds do ok. I would definitely ask the store that sold them to you, how to handle the situation. Sometimes separating the males out for a bit is the solution.

Well, time to get moving. We filled out our ballots this morning, and I am taking them to the town hall today. We don't have an issue with our mail system here in our town, the ballots only took 1 day to get to us, but I am not taking any chances. This election is too important. So in the spirit of the season, I am raising my mug to all voters. Today's mug I bought at the John F Kennedy Library. Since I am from MA it was a fun day trip for my son and I. This is an hand made pottery mug and I love it!

Everyone have a fantastic day!

Happy Thursday

Yesterday my knee incision started looking red so I asked the gal next door if she could spare a moment. I thought she was a nurse but found out she is actually an NP which is much more advanced than just a nurse. She told me to put a Magic Marker circle around the inflamation, that way I can tell if it is getting larger or smaller. Also to put Neosporin on it and a bandaid.

Carol, I wish my daughters would lose weight like your DD. She looks absolutely fantastic! My DD Catherine is under 5' and really needs to lose weight for her heart condition.

Cecil, congratulate Jessica for her great score in English.

Allie, good to hear you are getting help for your concussion.

Hi everyone,

CAROL, thank you. I can relate to the sad feelings in the dressing room at stores. Those mirrors and lighting are unforgiving and trying on clothes (especially a swimsuit!) can be traumatic. *Congratulations to your daughter, Jen. She has done an amazing job of getting healthy and you have every reason to be proud of her!!!

SLIMMER, Congrats on having a new baby bird!! (Iím very sorry about the other one). I hope the male behaves himself.

KATHRYN, Iím happy you were able to do your strength training again. Itís great that your shoulder has healed itself!

CECILE, Iím so glad you all had the chimney cleaned - what the chimney sweep man said is scary!

NANCY ELLEN, thanks very much for your comments. I appreciate your empathy. *Well Done on getting all those steps and going up and down the stairs so many times!!

ALLIE, itís good that youíre in a program for folks who have had concussions. I hope their therapies help. I also hope Storm gets well soon.

I did an exercise video and some housework this morning, but have mostly been watching the Barrett Confirmation Hearing. Itís fascinating to me. I watched a lot yesterday, as well, and had to Google some of the words they were using, as I have no legal background. Now I know what Stare decisis and amicus briefs are, among other things. LOL

I donít have any news, so Iíll just say that I hope everyone has a good afternoon and evening.

Good afternoon team:

Cecile: I am glad you were able to celebrate on your CanadianThanksgiving..

Carol: Your daughter did well and you should be very proud of her as I am sure you are.

Slimmer: Maybe you can call a local vet or pet store and ask them for advice or see if they could take the male bird for a little bit.

Ellen: Amish are wonderful craftsmen.

Kathryn: Do you have a senior citizen discount with Goodwill? I know I have and it comes in handy.

I am also saying hello to everyone else that I missed. Grace, Marlene,Yvonne, etc.

I am in a new program for people who have a concussion. They are going to send me to two different types of therapy, to an ENT to get my hearing checked and they are going to exam my eyes.

The wind was blowing so hard my pilot light on my boiler went out. My ex-dils bf came over and relit it.

I am taking Storm to the vet next Monday. I took her in Sept. and they insisted she was fine. She isn't fine and is miserable so I am taking her back to the vet/pound where I got her from.

My son put a new faucet in for me in the upstairs bathroom. He did a great job and that saved me lot of money. I hated the thought of calling a plumber.

I got my car fixed and I am driving. The doctor said I can drive but I am very careful. It is going to take me a long time to get over the trauma of the car accident.

I hope everyone has a good evening.

I HAVE SEEN... ONE BABY BIRD!

it is about 1in. by 1in and was flapping it's tiny wings.

The Dad has been sitting on them most this AM .. I knew something was odd because both have been out too much where before one always sat on the nest.

But.. Sad news.. I just gave them more food and water.. but in the food dish I had a long blob.. as I washed it off.. it was another baby bird...

Now.. this breed of bird.. is known for being bad parents... and known for getting upset when they first see a baby appear ... and they toss it out of the nest... I don't see any others tossed out and on the bottom of the cage... and odd that one was BROUGHT to the see dish.

Let's hope he now realizes that the baby bird .. is his baby bird and will feed it... I have not seen them going in and out to feed.. but I think a new baby still has some nourishment left in the egg sack before all the feeding has to take place

It was soooo tiny!.. and looked full of feathers!

Ellen.. I agree on getting weighed everyday.. to STOP/CORRECT any eight gain... but you need to stop thinking of it as a Real gain for you and that you did bad... just know it is a fluctuation up.. and then you might want to lighten up your eating.. like don't beat yourself up because you had a meal out... hmmm now if it stays up.. then you can think it is a gain. I like to look often because if it is not less than the week before I am working to get it to do so.. right now.

I guess I better sit out and watch to make sure the Dad does not toss out any more.. this happened decades ago and I just removed the Dad for a while... I don't have a place to move him to

Nebraska Furniture Mart sent a text yesterday and our chest of drawers for the guest bedroom is in! We had selected last August one that is made by the Amish and we could select the stain and hardware we wanted. They will deliver it Friday so we worked yesterday cleaning out the chest in that room. In the process we found a lot of things we forgot we had. I managed to make over 8,000 steps and 9 flights of stairs. Today, we are taking the old chest downstairs to make room for the new one. I imagine we will try and sell the old one to an antique dealer or donate it.

We watch a couple on the Gulf Coast that was hit by Laura and then Delta. He was 94 years old and she was 88 years old. They were so fit and trim and had a great attitude about rebuilding their house. I want to be like them!!

Kathryn- congrats on the 60 walk! That is probably 3 miles at least!

Miller- My losses and gains were not as dramatic as yours, but I still hate them! I think if I had just kept my weight at 120 when I lost it years ago, I wouldnít be on this yo-yo. I have found the key to losing weight and maintaining it is weighing every day and taking immediate action to lose anything you gain. * I hope the doctor can help you with the pain PLUS help you with the medication weight gain. *I look find under loose clothes but in the mirror without a long top- UGH!

Carol- your daughter looks great!! Congrats to her for losing the weight! I donít think Keto is for me but I know I can follow some of it!

Slimmer- just a few years ago Slimmer was up to 172 pounds so it can be done. But she is SO active and doesnít eat a lot! But I have seen when you put your mind to something you can do it!! Set your goals and achieve them. I believe in you!

Cecile- when we first bought our house we had a chimney inspection and they said a fire had happened at one time and our chimney was dangerous. We had them repair it (insurance paid for it) and we have had it sweep and inspected ever since!

Good morning!

Thanksgiving was quiet of course. We had turkey for supper. No left over for my lunch. I was disappointed but it was a breast and there was just enough for Mario's lunch. Chantal and Jess had bologna sandwiches.

Today Jess is having an English exam. I am hoping and praying she passes it. She was pretty nervous about it last evening. I've been praying pretty hard since yesterday!

I did my regular laundry yesterday and today I'm doing my bedding. It's still going up and down.

Yesterday, the man came to clean the chimney. He told Chantal and Mario that if we had not done it this year, the house would have burned down. It appears, the lady who lived here, never had it cleaned it before. We decided to have it done yearly as it should be done!

Have a nice, happy and healthy Wednesday!

Carol Wow your daughter has done great!!! You should be proud of her. I tried that diet and it gave me the Keto blues had to get off it. But every now and than I have high protein low carb days. I know that is a good way to lose weight they do that on the 600 pound life show.

My shoulder is not hurting today so I did my strength training routine. I have not done it for months as I had tried to increase my routine to 30 minutes with little rest in between and that hurt my shoulder. My doc wants me to get it X-rayed but I think it healed it's self.

Taking a long walk around the neighborhood and down to old Sac. It is a tourist attraction and has lots of little shops. I am going to see how they handle shopping now. The Goodwill thrift store only allows 30 in at a time. And did not have it's big 50% off sale as they did not want to attract big crowds.

Hi All.. VERY SUNNY out...

Carol... fantastic story and pictures of your daughter.. that is wonderful.. she looks Great! I don't know really a thing about the Keto Diet.. never read about it.. but I figure ..when I am being good that how I eat much kind of be like it...very Few Carbs. I'll have to borrow a book on it.

For some reason day after day I am eating easily under 25 carbs each day but my sugar has stopped dropping any lower... it is like stuck at 134 to 150.. which for me is really good.. but I would like it ..to get used to being more around or even under 120.

Reading more now in The Diabetic Solution by Dr. Bernstein... this updated version of my favorite book... is a good reminder of things I had kind of forgotten... He speaks the truth about health.. and being diabetic.

what is interesting is ANYONE can go to him for a doctor! I'd go but he lives in MI.. a dr. visit for him could be 7-8 hours long... he goes into detail on Everything

I have not looked further.. but did see somewhere that a visit with him is $1005.00 but then the visit I had for allergies was about $900.00...
....well, thank heaven his book is ALSO in detail as to Why you should or should not do something.

plus, when he says Never eat a certain food again for life.. he means Never. I have not gotten their again, but he also said the Book Weight for us ..IS.. what we should weigh.. which I think most all of us.. think really.. should be ignored as unrealistic and close by like 50 lbs is more accepted.. like we need extra weight when we get older.. don't we? well I got that part covered LOL..

Serena.. I have to say you being down wo 110 at my height and older like me.. Made me realize that... getting down to a low weight... could be possible ..still
...now true you probably always were close to your Book Weight through your life... but I don't think I know ANY old person who was overweight that weighed so
..I also don't know if you are Petite Bone Structure.. if so.. you still can go down to ..104 lbs.. before you start weight under your book weight.. Good for You!

At 5' 2.5" my book weight for Medium Bone Structure is like 120.. but ohhhhhhhh that does seem unreal to me.. so shooting for the 138 lbs which is my height for Big Bone Structure ..
........but right now Shooting to break 200 lbs!!! LOL.. and staying under that

Grace.. not worried about the . points on my scale.. was just hoping I could get My old dr. scale and the new digital scale to MATCH and at the moment my Dr scale is like .35 lighter.. I'll get it calabrated again have not done it for years

I do like Seeing the .1 percentage point showing on my new digital.. because there are too many times when .1 may be all I lose.. and nice now ..I can hold onto that.. it helps me stay positive.

It is also now so easy to see when I'm up or down...

Ellen.. you always talk about being ..up.. after eating the day before like you probably should not have.. you are right.. it is Probably only water or ruffage/waste weight... as low as your weight is.. you should weigh only once a week.. it is Going to go up and down.. because you are working to lose .. ounces.... LOL and at times I hang on to losing an ounce too.. so no point in getting upset seeing it go up the next day after eating out.

At night I am trying to see what happens...
...I am weighing when I go to bed... and ...interesting I was like 5.5 lbs HIGHER than when I get up in the morning... Amazing

I had always heard that ..we lose 4 ounces every hour through evaporation... and then added by elimination
....so if we are trying to lose by ounces.. We just have to wait

No plans for today... been watching a movie a day on my TV

Carol.. you talked about Apple TV.. I went there and all I could get into ..was it wanted me to buy movies for $29.99... I didn't see where I could just watch something.

I still have not figured out on any App.. how I can Find my regular TV shows to watch the next current show... still very frustrating to me

Don't have any Baby Birds ..yet.. this AM both were out of the nest .. usually one is in their all the time.. I believe now I have seen 3 eggs... ???

Good Morning!

The sun is out and the colors on the trees are beautiful. We had HEAVY downpours yesterday. It was very much needed and under all the fallen leaves on the lawn, is a very happy green lawn.
I spent most of the day doing laundry and knitting. I finished another hat and started one more.
The beef stew came out fantastic. I got the recipe from a crockpot cookbook I have had for a long time but hardly use it. Not sure how healthy it was, but it was delicious. It used a can of diced tomatoes, beef broth (I used low sodium), the usual veggies, (I only added one potato, and no parsnips), but it asked me to add 3 tablespoons of molasses, and a quarter cup of raisins. WOW! Was it yummy!!!!!! I have enough left over for dinner tonight. Now I am going to see what other gems are in that cookbook.

Today will be grocery day. Tomorrow I have to go to my sister's and take her some personal items that she needs.

CECILE - I also hope you had a good Thanksgiving Day yesterday. I know the holidays are very different this year. CJ and I plan to spend Thanksgiving by ourselves this year. It will seem odd, but our overall health will be our main focus this year.

MILLER - We are all our worst critics. I hate going to a clothing store and trying things on, I look in that horrid full length mirror and have literally cried. All we can do is keep trying to get healthy, and become (as I call it) less fluffy,

I have to share this with you all. My daughter is 43. Nine years ago, she had a miscarraige. She became depressed and just lost interest in being healty. She ate mostly comfort foods and drank a bit more than she should. She packed on a LOT of weight. She is my height, just 5 feet tall. I was getting very worried about her, and even convinced her to come to WW with me, and paid for her membership. She didn't do well on it, as she was not a fan of salads, and a lot of healthy foods. Two years ago, she had a health scare and had to call the ambulance to take her to the hospital. The Drs told her that if she didn't do something about her weight she was at a serious health risk and could cut years off her life. She started researching and settled on the Keto diet. She dove into it with an has stuck strictly to it since Dec of '18, She has also started going to a personal trainer in her town, and I am blown away at how well she has done. She has lost around 80 pounds and I couldn't be more proud. The carbs she eats are from fresh vegetables. I could not tolerate that diet for long, as I love my fresh fruits. But it is working for Jen and I am very pleased with the results.
Here is a picture, before and after.

I'm sorry if I sound like an infomercial, but I really am proud of her. She is now walking about 4-5 miles a day and feeling great. I am trying to work up to that, but must keep in mind that I am pushing 70, so I cannot compete with what she can do.

So everyone have a great day today, stay healthy, and I will do a bit more on the active minutes front today. One day at a time.

emoticon emoticon Hi friends,

GRACE, thank you so much for your advice about eating more veggies and fruits. Iím going to put your ideas into practice! Iím definitely thinking more about my overall consumption now and Iíve already been making changes in what I eat.

KATHRYN, well done on all your walking. Glad you found the jeans you wanted.

CAROL, I agree about the Kindle not affecting sleep. The doctor told Katie and me that TVís and computers would affect good sleep, but a Kindle will not. *You amaze me with all your fall cleaning. Youíve inspired me to try to get more done. I canít do it all at once, as Iím not in good shape, but I can do a little at a time. *Nice mug! *I made beef stew for dinner tonight, too.

NANCY ELLEN, Iím like you in that I donít really like it when Randy is with me when I drive. He tells everyone that Iím a great driver and about the only person he trusts behind the wheel, but then I feel like heís looking at every little thing I do while Iím driving and he likes to give ďconstructive criticism.Ē *Iíve never used green tea for weight loss, but I donít think it could hurt and it might help.

My doctor got back with me today and ordered blood work. I had that done and hope to get results tomorrow or the next day - it should show my inflammation markers. He said if my knees are hurting, I should go to the orthopedist and get an injection in my knee. I did that many times with the replaced knee (before replacement), but donít want to with my other knee because Iíve been told by a couple of doctors that the steroid injections, while sometimes providing relief, DO make the cartilage degrade more quickly. I donít want to do anything that will cause my knee cartilage to further erode.

Randy took a photo of me sitting in my chair today and, oh my word, I look absolutely terrible. I had no idea I look like that. Because I never had a weight problem until my late twenties, I grew up having an image in my mind of myself that is not overweight. Kind of like people who grow up overweight and still have that overweight image of themselves even after losing weight. My mother used to say, ďMiller, you just donít know how big you are!Ē She was absolutely right. I need to take a photo of myself every day - or just look at the one Randy took so I can really ďgetĒ what I look like and how out of control my weight has gotten.

It seems overwhelming, but Iíll keep trying. Iíve lost 60 lbs twice and gained it back both times, so I donít really trust myself.

Okay, enough of me and my whining. emoticon

I hope everyone has a restful night and a happy day tomorrow. emoticon

Today took long walk to pick up med. It was 60 minutes non stop walking I loved it but my glasses kept fogging up. I took them off for awhile but had to put them on to see what train was coming to the station going home. I don't want to get on the wrong one. They both go up town but one has a station near my home. I had had enough walking, I needed rest. The train trip is only five minutes so not a long enough rest time.

I went with Bob yesterday to the eye doctor in case they dilated his eyes and he needed a driver to go home. They didnít so I didnít need to drive. I donít mind driving but not with him in the car because like me, he is a side driver which makes me nervous if I am driving. I am fine by myself driving. After his eye appointment we did our grocery shopping for the week. So, that is done. I totally forgot yesterday was a holiday and put some mail out. I was so surprised when I realized it was a national holiday.

Has anyone used green tea to lose weight? I wonder if it really helpsÖ I forgot to count calories yesterday so that might have also contributed to my weight gain this morning. But I am keep plugging away!

Carol- I loved your historical cup! I should look for more historic things when I travel. It is fun to look at things and remember the trip.

Grace- I use my mini iPad to read books on. I have the Nook app, my library ebooks app, the Amazon app and even use it for Spark People reading. (I donít like typing responses on it unless it is very short). *I am so glad the northeast is getting the rain they need. Now, if we could only have some.

Miller- I so hope the doctor calls you today! If he wants you to take more of that medication that helps, be sure and ask him what you can do to prevent weight gain. You are working so hard and I donít want you to be discouraged. *Yesterday, I gained back that pound I lost. Maybe it is water weight.

Cecile- this appears to be our last ďsummerĒ week before the temperatures drop. I even am running the A/C. So, my goal for the next two days is to paint our back porch. It is smaller than the big front porch so hopefully, I can do it in about four hours.

Slimmer- you were wise not to drive in the rain for entering an art show. Congratulations on the 9.25 weight loss in six weeks. As Serena as noted, our food intake is one thing we can control in these crazy times!

Marlene- enjoy laundry day! Arenít we glad we donít have to do it outside in a black pot!

Good morning!

Today is rainy and very dark.

It's laundry day so part of the day will be in the basement. I've only three loads. It's damp in the house so it's a sweater day. It's Fall after all. I keep looking at the green grass as I know it's going to be white in a few weeks. That's the way I feel today.

Have a nice, happy and healthy Tuesday!

Good Morning!

Today is a very wet and rainy day. We need this so badly I am actually excited to see this. I am thawing out some stew meat and will have beef stew tonight for dinner. A great rainy day dinner.

GRACE - I LOVE my paperwhite Kindle for several reasons. You can take hundreds of books with you and not take up space, You can adjust the brightness of the screen, but also it doesn't emit blue light like the computer, smart phones and tablets do. So if you read in bed it won't disrupt your sleep pattern. That is a BIG deal if you have trouble sleeping. I can also borrow books from my library and read them on my Kindle. Sometimes a book I want to read is not availble on Amazon, or it is a price I don't want to pay. So I go to the library site, use my e library card and I can download the book for 2 weeks. AND I can loan certain books to other Kindle owners for 2 weeks at a time as well.

SLIMMER - My fall cleaning consisted of cleaning my oven, polishing my appliances, and scrubbing my cabinet doors. I was going to wash the curtains and windows, but the rain interferred with that. I'll do that later in the week when the sun comes out. I steamcleaned my floors last Friday. So I'll just do a little bit each day and the house will be sparkling when I close the windows tight for the winter. Then on to more decluttering. I'll have to spend an afternoon washing all of my mugs.

PEGGY - Thank you! I will definitely check out the baby blanket pattern.

So, since Halloween is approaching, I decided to use my House of Seven Gables mug that I bought on a trip to Salem, MA a few years ago. I paid a bit more for it, as it is a hand made pottery mug from here in the US, not China. I had been to this house back when I was a kid, and the house was decorated as it was depicted in the book. It even had the candy shop set up. But this time, they have it set up more as a historical home, as it was when Nathanial Hawthorne lived there. This time I learned much more about the author and life in Salem back in the days following the Witch Trials. I was not disappointed.

I hope you all lhave a wonderful day today, stay safe and healthy!

Hi.. no rain today!.. sun did come out!

Grace... I have had a Kindle Fire yrs ago it cost $125... Now days I believe you can get one like mine for $59.00

I at first wanted a paperwhite.. but it is limited

a Fire you can still get backgrounds of white.. I use in the day and I use the black at night...

There is an 8 and a 10 inch.. a yr ago they had troubles with the 10 inch.. I have the 8 "

On a Fire you can Read Magazines.. in COLOR!.. unless they changed it you can't see color on papewhites

Getting one from Amazon I think is the only way to go.. I got my 1st one at Best Buy and they guy dropped it on the way to the register.. I thought would not hurt it.. but
......I had to get another and it was Amazon who shopped it to me Free and gave a box to send back the flawed one. all at their expense.. no driving 30 miles to return one at Best Buy

Amazon customer service is just the best

Now as for reading books on it... my Library now went back to ...using the ..Overdrive app

and there are books that can be read on the Overdrive or it also may say can be used on a Kindle download.. but then you have to go through Amazon.. so it is just easier to ALWAYS just borrow a book from the libraries Overdrive account.

Now if I want to BUY a book on Amazon or ..get a FREE book from Amazon.. all I have to do is Click just like I was buying anything else on Amazon and immediately it is put on your Kindle.. and the most you might.. have to do is turn it off and then back on to finish the loading. I have gotten many Free books on Amazon... and only bought less than probably 6 .. there just are so many free books to get.

I have never bought a book from any other place.. have not needed to yet. and maybe I have gotten a free book from a site that Gives Free books out

I love my Kindle Fire... and will buy another.. I really just don't have a need.. I always Run the battery down ALL THE WAY.. (you should do that with Everything that has a battery or you lose the Full amount of use of the battery) then I charge it up and that takes about 4-5 hours

I do not use it for the internet or games.. I have one game on it I like but it uses power like it is water...and it gets hot while doing it and I only then have a few minutes of play.. I don't use for internet because I don't like typing in.. like I guess texting is like to do things.
........I only read and Love listening to books!.. like old time radio!

Had a nice day today. I took the light rail train to midtown and walked around for an hour. I stopped at the thrift store and found two pairs of jeans that fit just right. One pair was midnight black like I really wanted.

Grace - I own a Kobo. I love reading on it but if I had to buy another e-reader I would go for a Kindle. The reason? On Amazon there are a lot of free books. The titles are good books and when I look them up on Kobo I have to buy them. They are not expensive mind you. They run about 2.99$ to 3.99$ but still they add up.

MILLER, Our posts crossed in the "cloud". I'm sorry you're in so much pain! I hope the doctor can relieve you of some of it so you can get a good night's sleep!

Here's what I do about veggie and fruit intake:

I really don't like veggies and treat them like "medicine" that I have to take. I buy frozen blends and mixes. The "blends" usually start with a bag of carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. Since, in reality, it's mostly carrots(cause they're a cheap filler") I add more broccoli, and cauliflower to the bag. And now I'm adding a bag of frozen mixed cubed root veggies to it as well.
The "mixes" are usually the little "square cut" veggies and, again, I add more cut veggies to get the mix the way I want it, I add more cut green beans plus a bag of riced cauliflower.
I do the same thing with mixed frozen fruit and berries.
So I have three 2 gal bags in my freezer, one for each mix. Every day, I alternate and have about 1.5 cups out of one these bags and I cook them in my microwave. It's probably too monotonous for the average person but I don't mind it. I don't microwave the mixed fruit, but just let them defrost, add some chopped walnuts and eat it. It's like a "fruit soup" and very delicious.
And now I'm hungry! emoticon emoticon

Grace, I love my Kindle Paperwhite. You can buy it via Amazon. I never wanted an e-reader until they came out with the Paperwhite because I wanted my e-reader to look like a real book - black print on a white background. I love it and frequently tell people it's one of the best purchases I ever made. That said, mine is quite a few years old and I don't know anything about the newer models.

Good afternoon team! I need advice. I'm very "tech illiterate" and, of course, I don't own an
"E-Reader" so, I'm taking a survey: If you own one, which make and model and what are the pros and cons? I value this team's member's input!

emoticon Hi friends,

I was doing so well for the last 6 weeks or so, losing a pound a week. This week I gained a pound, so time to make a course correction and get on track. I've been going over my calories and even doing some snacking after dinner, which I usually don't do. I've also realized how few fruits and veggies I actually eat. One friend on another team often eats 11 fruits/veggies per day!! I usually have about 3.

I finally contacted my rheumatologist as the pain is just too much. I've been waking up about 6 or seven times a night from the pain. I hope he can help me.

It was rainy this morning, then the sun came out, then it got cloudy again. Strange weather.

I just love that autumn is here. I've never been so happy to be in October!! I hope it's a great week for all.

Good morning!

I had a restful night! Jess is back and I had a chance to see Val for a few precious minutes. It was starting to get dark and with the nasty weather we've been having she didn't want to take a chance getting back home.

Slimmer - I find you are doing very good with your loosing weight. Keep it up! emoticon

Carol - Saturday when it started to get dark, I got up and got the flashlight I keep on my computer desk in the living room. I found out it was on and the batteries were dead. I went to get my Kobo and to my delight, found I could light my way around the house with it. I then went into my bedroom and got my other flashlight and it worked just fine. Of course when I searched for spare batteries, none could be found. I shall order some from my friend Amazon this morning. - I love your mug with the Iroquois motif.

Peggy - I had another look at the baby picture this morning. The one where the brother is standing behind his sister, he has such a big smile, says he is so proud of her. On the one where they are lying on the bed, he has an arm around her, says he is protecting her.

I bought a box of green tea from Epicure and I love it. I have had two cups and I plan to order more in the future!

Have a nice, happy and healthy Monday!

Back later... emoticon

Good morning team. CT is having a slow gentle rain for the next 2 days. That's fine with me since there's been a drought all summer.

SLIMMER, I wouldn't worry about fractions of LBS, especially if it might just be water retention, which is very likely with the bacon. You're doing great so keep up the good work!
