I ran for the second day in a row and it was amazing. I decided to do week 2 over again because I didn't feel ready to move on to week 3. I also found an iPhone ap for C25K and it is awesome!!! I loved running with it because I could just put my music on [which you can make playlists within the ap for your workouts], I can put my phone away, and just run...it tells you when you walk, when to run, when you are halfway done, when your last running session is...I loved it! I felt as though all I had to focus on was my breathing and just enjoying the fresh air. :-] If anyone has the iPhone and doesn't have an ap or anything for the C25K I really suggest this one, it was only $2.99, but I did see a free version after I purchased this one, so there is that option as well.

Happy Running!!!

Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!! W4D3 done! It seems easier every time.. I think the first day of a new week is intimidating but I don't let it freak me out -- I definitely can appreciate the difference in me between W4D1 and W4D3 - even though the intervals are the same so --- KEEP GOING everyone! You can do it! Don't hold back because you think you can't do because you CAN! If I can -- anyone can I promise!

Just finished W1D2! It wasn't as bad as I thought, easier than D1 and my calves are still screaming, but no worse than when I started. I'm proud of me and all of you too. I'm amazed at myself!

Last night I did Week 3 Day 1. Completed it in the 18 minutes + 5 minute warm-up walk, but still had 20 minutes left of my show on my ipod (so nice to run and watch tv haha) and I thought "well I'm doing really good actually, I may as well just keep going and alternating for 90 sec and 3 min until the full 42 minutes is up". After alternating for a bit I still had 7 minutes left and was going strong. I ran it. As the seconds ticked away to 40 minutes and I started my 2 minute cool down, I watched as the miles hit 3!

3 miles in 42 minutes!

Yesterday evening I completed W2D3, it felt good to get outside and enjoy the nice weather we have been having lately. I think I might do week 2 over again just to prepare myself a little more for the upcoming weeks [they are honestly pretty intimidating when reading over what we are suppose to do].

Happy running all!!!!

Good job Lisa! Outdoors is a little different than treadmill but sometimes I like it better. I think I have a more natural stride when I am outside and probably go faster than on a treadmill. I alternate between both and so far so good -- you will probably progress faster than you expect I think.

I am so excited -- today my 16yo dtr ran with me at W4D2 and while I thought she would breeze through it, she had a little trouble keeping up. I think she realized today that thin doesn't mean fit -- and I hope this is the beginning of a new thing for us! I love the idea of us exercising together and she never really showed any interest until recently (and I recently started Sparkpeople and have been on task every day for 17 days straight - coincidence? hmmmmm)

I am SO happy right now!!!

Did my first road run today. I've been training on a treadmill for the past 6 weeks (0 incline) but thought I'd try running on actual pavement today since it's finally warm outside where I live. I started over with week 1 because I didn't want to hurt myself or get discouraged...and I would actually say it was easy! Next road run I'm skipping to week 2! :)

Congrats on day 1!
I did week 5 day 2 today. The first 8 minutes felt good. The 5 min walk hurt my ankles, the second run...thought my chest was going to explode. I almost stopped twice, but powered through instead and then continued walking for a while. 56 minutes and 3.61 miles all together--averaged out to 16 minute miles, but I am ok with that.

It is very hard to do much of anything when I want to be lazy. :-) Going in the morning would be really nice, give a little extra boost of energy throughout the day. I may start doing that after tax season is over [I am already working at 5 am, I don't think I could get up any earlier to get a workout in].

It's hard to run when you want to be lazy. I am hoping to start going in the morning to beat that after work slump (once I find a job)...sooo not a morning person though!

I'm back!! I went on a sort of "running hiatus" in October...haven't run since then because I live in upstate NY and it has been COLD!! Monday I joined a gym and went for my first run in 5 months! I did a 5 minute warm-up walk then I ran 8 min.-walked 90 sec, ran 6 min.-walked 5, ran 3-walked 2, ran 3 and then 5 minute cool-down walk! I am really proud of the fact that I ran 8 minutes without stopping after such a long break from running! So glad to be able to run again! (those are words I really never expected to hear myself say!!)

I'm back! I tried this program last year..and fell off the wagon...but I'm back to try it again. I did day 1 in secret to see if I would really do it...and today completed W1D2! I think I will probably stay in week 1 for a while until I feel comfortable. My breathing is fine...but my knee gives me struggles.

Try active.com for a 5k. They may have listings in your area. Or google 'races' with your zip. Also, running stores usually have info.

I got my daughter to sign up with me because I knew I may not do it alone! Enlist a friend and you can motivate each other.

I love the fact that everyone is so excited about running, although I haven't ran since Friday morning and I have little motivation to get out there...seeing everyone post that they just completed their next stage and how they are excited to get back out there makes me want to get off work and complete my next stage.

I am interested in signing up for a 5k run, but I am not sure how to find one in my area and I am also nervous about it. Any suggestions?

Just completed W1D2 and it felt so great I wanted to keep going. I really like the podcasts But I cannot get them to download into my gogear audio player. I really want to run outside on Thursday but if I cannot get the download I will keep it inside. This is great and I love the fact that everyone here is so encouraging. Keep up the great work.

BSTRIBLING you just have to go. You think of all the other people here that are getting out there, you read all the posts and how happy people are when they are done with the day. You think of how good you feel when you are done.
Sign up for a 5k. I paid for my daughter and myself for a 5k in one month-- it helps me get out there!

I did it! W1D1. This is just the beginning. I liked the podcast. I'm glad I downloaded and used it. It really helped to keep me on track. The last 2 running intervals were tough, but I can't wait for my next run (did I really just say that???)

I am on W2D2 and I am having trouble finding the motivation to get out and run. I was on vacation this past weekend and now my body is so tired from all the traveling I can't seem to get myself out there and complete W2D2. I always feel good after I complete the sessions, I just wish that was enough motivation for me right now.

Did W3D2 today. It was harder for me than the first time I did it, but I didn't stop!! However, I couldn't get the Ullrey podcast to play today...don't know why! Loaded a Motion Traxx episode and timed myself. I was a bit nervous, b/c the podcast really keeps me on track, and I was afraid I would cheat if I was timing myself, but I didn't!!

Week 5 day 1!!! Woo-hoo!

ADKONKLE, probably a good plan to not skip ahead. 'They' say that the reason us new runners quit quickly is because we try to jump in too quickly; better to take it easy. Though, that is coming from a person who had a hard time even with week 1 !

Finished Week 1. Moving to Week 2 next week. The podcasts make this move along well. I think I could do the week 3 already based on overall fitness, but I'm not going to push it. Looking ahead is a little scary. My wife and I ordered new running shoes to help the process along. Can't believe I am liking running.

Good for you! I am starting week 5 today and a little anxious!

Hi everyone,

I am proud to say that I finished week 5 yesterday morning!
out of the house by 7.30 am, an absolutely gorgeous autum day, damp ground, dew on cobwebs, dog running behind me as I leisurely jogged an entire TWENTY minutes!
Slight distraction 12 mins in when dog refused to travel under a road bridge with me. Rather than stopping, I simply turned around a followed him as he led me on another track.
So involved in my jog, I was surprised when the voice in my ear said "cool down"!
I am feeling proud to be running, injury free, plan to run May9, Mothers Day Classic in Melbourne. Will I do the 4 k or the 8k?

Keep going everyone, we CAN reach our goals!

I just completed WK 1 Day 3 - The first day was outside on a beautiful early spring afternoon! Day 2 and 3 took place in a fitness center while attending the SEC basketball tournament (6am). I am also using the Ullrey podcast and it really seems to keep me motivated. The messages I have read on this site have made me determined to complete this program and compete in a 5K in early summer. I have not run a 5K in about 20 years and even then I didn't enjoy it - I'm hoping this program will provide the training necessary to enjoy running. Good Luck to all!

I include the warm up and cool down in my cardio and mileage total since I did walk it all, I also include the time, so instead of 20 mins I use 30.

I will be embracing my inner Weeble and will not fall down, but just roll back up and keep on going!!

Count Down to Basic Training at Ft. Jackson... right at 3 months..... Hooah!
