We had a sunny day today. It is supposed to get into the 70s this coming week. My oldest daughter and Eric family spent last night with us and left this morning after breakfast to go to Portland for the day. I went to church with my son and daughter in law. After lunch my husband took me to the assisted living home so I could play the piano for the church service. Then we went shopping so I could get some fresh fruit and vegetables. After we got home, my daughter and family stopped here for a short break on their way back home to Woodinville, Washington.

It's looking like "Spring" has finally arrived here in Rochester! It had been cold and snowing (not enough to have to shovel) just about every day in April so far.......

Been having a very hard time stick to eating healthy. I'm gonna have to push myself to get back under control. I managed to lose 32 lbs last year and I don't want to gain them back. FYI: I had lost 36 lbs in 2012 and gained back 31 of them the following year - so I know if I don't pull myself together NOW, it could happen again.

Have a great day all!

My husband and I went to the local Home and Garden show. I stood and walked around for a little more than 2 hours. I iced my knee when I got home. It is feeling good after all the walking.

Tonight our oldest daughter and her family are spending the night with us. They are going to Portland tomorrow for the day. It will be fun to see our twin grandsons tonight.

Tomorrow will be another busy day.

I was out and about today with 3 other senior citizens. I quietly whispered to one of them that I would pay for her lunch. The others didn't need to know. She quietly said thanks. I was the youngest in the group. . So now I'm home and tired.

I went to my TOPS meeting tonight, the first time since my surgery. I lost .75 pound, so I was happy. It felt good to get back to the meeting. My husband took me down and our leader brought me home. She lives a few miles from my house in Tumwater, so she goes just a block from my house on the main street from Olympia to Tumwater.

This morning I had PT. Today I rode the exercise bicycle for the first time. It went well until I got a cramp in my knee. I did squats, the steps, and some balancing exercises where I stand on one foot and then the other. I also started using my cane at home when I am walking around the house. After PT, I went to the Olympia library and got some books on CDs.

We also have nice weather. I got my new sandals on. If you want a good inexpensive sandal with support, Walmart, of all places, has some. Look for the display in the shoe department for Earth Shoes. They are all together and have many styles and cost just under $20. Most sandals that has good support are $60 and up.

I was able to go out for a nice walk with my husband this afternoon. It was sunny today and not too windy, no rain. After the walk around the neighborhood, I walked around my backyard looking at my plants. I can't wait until I can get out and start gardening again. My knee has felt good all day, very little pain. Tomorrow is another physical therapy day. Each day I can see more progress with the healing.

I had TOPS this morning. I was the Loser of the Week today with 1.5 loss. I'm happy with that. I've been steadily losing this week. Last night, I stepped on the scale, which I rarely do because I retain water and get rid of it during the night. So I knew it would be higher than my actual weight. And I had a too-good-to-be- true weight. I wished that was right. Then I changed the battery. Reality check, I gained 13 pounds. lol This scales does this when the battery gets week. You get lighter and lighter. But its a lie. Even though the weight loss was less than I thought it would be, I'm still happy that in spite of the lying scales,

I went to PT this morning and worked my knee for 35 minutes. It is getting better each day. I got my knee to extend down to the full extent today. I was also able to bend it to 115 degrees. The squats are the hardest, but they force me to bend my knee and do them without holding on to the parallel bars. I'm glad our TOPS group started doing the balance exercises from the newsletter from November because these are very similar to what I am doing in PT. I hope to go to our TOPS meeting this coming Thursday.

We all love pizza! Pizza does have some good points, but high caloric.

We suppose to get snow/rain showers today. Its snowing in the mountains right now.

I managed to lose .4 at my meeting on Thursday and was happy.

This weekend I did terrible with eating. I snacked on left of pizza and cookies from my daughter's birthday. WHEN WILL I LEARN.

As every Monday (it seems), I'm back to the gym and trying hard to lose what I have gained over the weekend AND more, to show a loss at the scale on Thursday.....

Another thing I started last week, maybe it helps too. My regular routine is get up, use bathroom, step on scale, get dressed, go get breakfast and go walking with my breakfast in my hands. I added, while breakfast is cooking drinking a cup of water. They say it helps.

Yesterday, one of my friends, announced that she is getting married and will move to Nebraska this summer. I'm surprised, but not really. He's a good many and she's talked about him a lot. He's a professor at a Christian College. Its a good move for her and I'm happy for her, but I'll miss her a lot.

I had a busy, but good day today. I went to church with my son and daughter in law this morning. It is so nice to have them starting to go to church and to be able to get a ride with them while I can't drive. After they dropped me off at home I rested with my leg and foot elevated. The swelling is really starting to go down now. After lunch, my husband took my to the assisted living home so I could play the piano for the church service there. It was fun to get back and see the residents who come to the service. After the servic, my husband took me to Fred Meyer so I could get some fresh vegetables and fruit. I had used up all the vegetables that I bought right before my surgery. It felt good to get out and do some of my normal Sunday activities and to see my friends. The knee is feeling good tonight.

We have a total of 31 mice now that we evicted so far. I don't know where they are coming from. I know there is at least one more. I saw one last night that was a big one. The one we caught during the week is a small one.

I think I'm on a roll for losing weight again. I see a 2 pound loss since last Wednesday. I find I like to snack in the afternoon. So I bought a bag of apples and I slice one in thin slice one in thin slices and sprinkle with cinnamon. It curbs that snacking that is usually not the best choices. When you cut an apple in thin slices, it fills a luncheon size plate. My plan is to get my KOPS status back. 6 more pounds for that to happen.

Losing weight is a mind game! You have to get your head on straight and DO it.

7STIGGYMT: I hope that you will be able to get all of the mice out of your house. When I was growing up we had mce in our house, but the barn cats would come in and get rid of them. We had one cat that my folks took to town for an older friend to keep at her house to get rid of the mice. When the cat got rid of the mice, she got to come back to the farm.

My day has gone fairly well today. The pain level in my knee is going down and I find that walking with my walker is much easier. When I'm by a counter, I will use that to move around without the walker. It feels good to be able to move more without a lot of pain. One of my son in laws called me this afternoon and talked to me about some of my latest EKGs, which had some comments on them that I didn't understand. He is a cardiologist ARNP who is starting to specialize in the electrical problems of the heart. He has his own practice and work with several cardiologists in a hospital in northwestern Washington. He reassured me that the irregularities on my EKGs are nothing serious to worry about. He told me some of the irregularities happen as we get older, inactivity, or being over weight. I told him I'm working on two of the possible issues now that my knee s not bone on bone.

LAH1222 Great news for you. Our SRD is the middle of June and I plan to go. I might be the only one going from our chapter. I did it last year, so I can do it again. I know what you mean about missing it. I would miss it too. Our SRD is in Great Falls, about 4 hours away. Its over the Continental Divide for me. So the weather SHOULD be good by then.

Its been years since we've had to deal with mice. Oh, My, This year has been different. So far we have caught 27. I hope we got them all! They sleep during the day, so they are quiet now. This evening they will start moving again. This has been frustrating.

I had a good day today. I went to PT this morning and had a good workout. The physical therapist measured my knee bending to 112 degrees and putting it flat done is almost at 100%. I did modified squats on a machine and then did toe rises and squats between the parallel bars. I was able to do some of them without holding onto the bar, so I really felt good. I actually enjoyed the icing of my knee today. After that my husband took me to our fairgrounds so I could see a flower show. It was put on by several western Washington flower clubs. That made me wish spring and sunshine would come. It was cold and raining here all day again. I guess that is why western Washington is so green. It was snowing in the mountain passes today. I was glad I wasn't on my way over the pass to Spokane, WA for the TOPS SRD today. I miss not going, but I had a pretty good excuse this year.

Rain finally stopped last night. We had a lot of rain. Yesterday afternoon, the temperature dropped 10 degrees and it was a snow rain mix. I was glad that I walked in the early morning. I had a few drops, but not much.

Adhesives! I have problems with them too. Last surgery I had (gall bladder), they put on steri-tape on, and I was to leave it on until I saw the doctor a few days later. On the weekend, I called the hospital because I had weeping blisters under the taps. They told me to take them off. That was miserable.

I went to my orthopedic surgeon this morning. His nurse took the bandage off from my knee. It hurt like crazy and I have a bad rash from the adhesive but the incision looks real good. The doctor was pleased with how far I could bend my leg back. Straightening it out is almost to where he wants it to be. I see my physical therapist tomorrow morning again. Today the pain level has been low, after the bandage was taken off. My knee and lower leg were so painful yesterday afternoon and all night, but the doctor said that was pretty normal.

It was raining hard and cold here this morning, but about mid afternoon the sun decided to come out. I'm not going to my TOPS meeting again tonight but hope to get back next week. My weight has been slowly starting to go down as all of the swelling is slowly going down.

Hello,

Over the weekend was our SRD. We crowned our new King and Queen. Bonnie who was our reigning Queen (she was the one who won IRD last year and was in People Magazine "Lost Half Their Size") crowned the new Queen and King. SRD was good we had two really good break out sessions. One was on Diabetes and the other one was on Exercise and Yoga After Ager 50. Learned a lot in both sessions. Had TOPS this morning and lost .8 lbs again. That is two weeks in a row.

Been playing a lot of golf the last weeks. Total of 4 times. Not playing well but the weather has been good.

7STIGGYMT - Wow! 217 to 140 is Fantastic! I wish I could say that! Ok tell me again about how you get points for the team? Everyone is posting points for the team and I am still not sure where you are finding this.

At TOPS, this morning I gained a pound. grrr ... But then I needed a reality check. Last week, I saw my doctor. the nurse weighed me in. I was frustrated. The Nurse looked at me, then looked back 3 years on my record and said "Now wait a minute, Look here, you were 217 pounds. Now I say you have nothing to complain about at 140." She's right, I've come a long ways. But I still have the fear of gaining it back. Think Positive!

LAH1222 - I am happy for you and the progress you are making with your knee, keep up the good work.

I'm still going to the gym each morning and doing well with my eating. The number on the scale has gone down a little more. Tomorrow is my meeting and my weigh-in, even if I do have a gain I will try to be positive with myself (which I have a hard time doing) and remind myself of how well I did this week with my exercising and eating. If I continue this, then I am sure I will have a loss the following week. CAN'T LET IT GET ME DISCOURAGED.

I had physical therapy early this morning. My therapist is happy with how I'm doing. He really bent my knee today, but it felt good after. The pain level has dropped off some more today, although it has never been super bad. I can start using my cane to walk in my house, but need to use the walker when I'm outside. It was rainy, windy and cold here this morning but by noon the sun came out and it warmed up. My husband and I went out for a walk around the neighborhood again today and then we sat in the backyard for a while. We haven't been able to do that for a few months.

I was away last week and this week I am trying to get back in the swing of things with chores, housework and MY EATING.

I gained too much weight while away for the week, but I am back working out at the gym and eating better too. I don't have much hope that I will get back to my last weigh-in weight by the meeting on Friday, but I am hoping the increase will be minimal.

I think Spring is here. Today is suppose to be the warmest day this week, up in the 50s or maybe even 60. I noticed yesterday that my daffodils are up, not blooming yet though. I'm off to Zootown today. I'm taking an elderly friend to a doctor appointment. We'll have a good time today.

We had a nice day today, the sun was out most of the day. This afternoon my husband and I went for a walk around three blocks. It felt good to get out and walk. When I got home, I laid down and elevated my leg. My knee was a little sore so I iced it. One of the ladies from my church brought soup, salad and fruit over to me for dinner. My husband had already eaten his dinner, but I told him he would like the soup. Just after that my son stopped at our place after he got off work. I had forgotten something in his car yesterday. After dinner, my third daughter and grandson from Eastern WA called so we had a good visit. I'm getting ready to go to bed, elevate and ice my knee. I have an early morning PT appointment tomorrow. We are supposed to get rain again starting tomorrow morning and then rain the rest of the week.

Its suppose to be warmer this week. Maybe Spring is breaking out finally! I walked early this morning. I finished before the school buses came back to town. I walk on the school bus route because it has the only hill in town. I work at avoiding the buses because their fumes is awful!

Sounds like you're doing well with your knee. I'm happy about that.

10 points for the team today.

This morning I went to the early church service. My son and daughter in law took me. They were wanting to check out that church service. It worked good for me to get a ride. It was nice to get out, and my knee didn't bother me too much. People were surprised to see me there just a week after surgery. When we got home, my daughter in law watered my plants for me. My son helped my husband take down the ramp from the backstep. My husband watched me go down our front steps to get to my son's car and decided I could do steps now.

About 6:00 this morning I got a text from our neighbors' daughter letting me know that her stepdad had died early this morning. He has been at home on hospice for a couple of months and for the past month we expected him to die anytime. He is the second next door neighbor of ours to die of a brain tumor since last July. We live on the corner and this Tom was on our left side and the other Tom was on our backyard side.

I have rested his afternoon in between walking in the house. My knee feels pretty good today. Hopefully tomorrow will be dry so I can go outside and walk around the block.

20 points for the team today!

We have a small group. And I'm working to recruit. Its either that or our chapter will die. We have 2 older ladies (in their 70s or 80s). Then me, (I'm 67) and the "baby" of the chapter is 60.. We've had quite a few drop out in the last 3 years, mostly health related to themselves or their husbands.

I was the only one from our chapter that was able to go. They youngest of our group had back surgery in January and she's not quite up to traveling yet. But I had fun with the skit. I started out with those gremlins called calories, that come into your home and sew up the seams of your clothes at night. Then I talked about the drama at the scales. One in our chapter came to TOPS with a bunch of Helium balloons to make herself lighter. We could hardly see the scales because of the balloons. Then I mentioned "Barbie' took all her clothes off down to a bikini to weight lighter. It was not a pretty sight. I had another example I can't think of it right now. then I told everyone that in actuality, I had a great bunch of ladies in our chapter and they were really sensible toward the scale. And that the Scale is our friend and like a good friend, sometimes tells us things we don't want to know.

Good Morning all - have a wonderful day! emoticon

7STIGGYMT – happy to read you enjoyed going to YOUR Spring rally and that you even did a skit (WOW)….. How many people are in your TOPS group? How was the actual rally – you traveled so long to get there – was it worth it?
OMG – I agree it is probably a little of both – what a wonder non scale victory!

LAH1222 – you are doing so well with your knee rehab. I am surprised to read that you are walking around outside especially so soon after your surgery. After mine (I had both knees replaced 31 days apart), I was discouraged from walking on cement/outdoors/etc. for quite awhile.
That sounds like a nice contest your TOPS group had. Does the biggest loser get to keep the quilt?

1 point for the team today, Ugh! I went to a Spring Rally today. 3 hours total travel time! Needless to say, I'm tired. I was the only one from our chapter, but I still did a skit and made everyone laugh. I had fun with it!

In another month or so, you'll be glad you had that knee replaced. I haven't had it done yet, but eventually, I'll probably have it done too. I have friends that has had knee replacements, and I'm impressed at how well they are doing, except one. She never did her home exercises and knew more than doctor or therapists. Make sure you do you exercises when they give them to you. They really help you to heal better.

20 points for the team today.
Today has been a fairly good day for me. This morning I talked to my sister in Minnesota for a couple of hours. It was fun to get caught up on all of the family news. After lunch my husband and I went out for a walk. It was between rain showers and was in the mid 60s. By tomorrow we are supposed to having a wind-rain storm. It felt good to get out in the sunshine and fresh air for a little while. I could feel different muscles in my knee and leg being used that don't get used in walking around in the house. After the walk, I laid down with my leg raised and ice on my knee. After last night, it was not as sore today. Patience is not one of my strong points right now. I need to keep reminding myself that it is only a week since the surgery.

That sounds like something fun to do at TOPS. I try not to miss meetings, but from time to time, it happens. LAH1222, you have a good excuse to miss a meeting. Knee replacement in no small thing. One of our ladies missed most of January and part of February, because she had back surgery.

I got 3 points for the team today. Tomorrow, I'm going to our TOPS Spring Rally With 2 hours travel one way, its an all day thing. I hope to get my walking done before I go. I hope it doesn't snow again.

I missed my TOPS meeting tonight. I know I would of had a big gain, just because my right knee down to my foot is so swollen. It is from the surgery, but didn't feel as swollen and tight today as yesterday. I'm using ice on it and keep it raised a couple of times a day when I go to bed and put my leg on my raised pillow wedge. After PT yesterday, it was quite swollen even after icing it. I can bend it more today and have been standing on it more. I made 14 crocheted granny squares that my husband took down to our meeting before it started. I made the squares for another person in our group that didn't crochet. The group was going to put all of the blocks together tonight to get a pattern. Then one member is going to stitch all of the blocks together. Every member has a different color and the number we needed to make depended on how many times we weighed in, and whether we loss of gained weight during the ten week contest. It will be fun to see it totally completed.

20 points for the team again today. Its raining today, at least its not snow. I walked early this morning and carried an umbrella. I also did an hour of water aerobics.

The last few days, I noticed my pants won't stay up. I'm not sure if its because they stretched out or my tummy muscles are a little more firm or a little of both. It could be a non scale victory. The scales says I'm not losing.

Good Morning!

Played 18 holes of golf yesterday, in nice weather, although it was a little chili in the morning. I am leaving for SRD today at 1 pm. I will be gone until Saturday night. Weighed in a TOPS yesterday and lost .8 lbs. It was a bad bad week for my TOPS group. We changed from a weighted scale to a digital which is weighing about 2 lbs more then what our weighted scale did. Last week we had the choice of which scale we wanted to use. I decided to take my gain last week on the new scales, most people decided to take the old scales. Everyone gained but me and one other person. I won everything with my measly .8 loss. I had the biggest loss out of the two of us.

Good Morning all:
Been struggling lately to keep from overeating (losing the battle on a few days). I know this will pass and I'll be back to my healthy habits. I gotta wonder why this happens - you go along for weeks or months and then suddenly you just want to go back to your old habits?

7STIGGYMT – it’s OK to turtle – I almost think it’s kinda like losing since you didn’t gain – LOL.
We have snow on the ground also (Rochester, NY) and it’s in the low 20’s – just like winter….. I must say – I am definitely ready for Spring to actually arrive.

LAH1222 – sounds like your coming along very well after the knee surgery.

MINDBATTLE – very happy to read you got a chance to play golf. Your always so busy with your job and traveling…..

50 points for the team today.
I went to my first post-surgical PT appointment this morning. The physical therapist had me bending and straightening my knee. It is more swollen than my good leg, but he told me I was doing good for just out of the hospital. He had me going up and down steps, using a balance board, and pushing and pulling on a bicycle type machine for 5 minutes. Then they iced it for 15 minutes and I had it on a raised wedge pillow. This afternoon the knee has been sore, but feels better when I walk. Hopefully the pain will settle down with pain medicine and I will be able to sleep tonight.

3 points for the team today.
My second daughter came down to Olympia this morning from Seattle to visit for awhile. We had a good visit. I missed her not bringing her 3 year old son with, but I didn't have to try and get around trucks and train tracks with my walker. After she left to go home, my husband helped me get outside and I walked around my house and checked the flowers out. I spent the afternoon resting and walking around in the house to get my exercise. After dinner, my husband went to his weekly dance, so I went to bed to read and raise my leg up. My son and daughter in law stopped over to pick up her old car that they left last night.she bought a used car, 2017 Outback Subaru last night. She is all excited about her new car. Her old car was about15 years old, her dad bought it for her when she was in high school. We visited for a little while. Tomorrow I have my first post-op physical therapy appointment in the morning. The knee feels pretty good when I walk on it. The hardest thing for me is resting and being patient. I want to be able to move and do things I think need to be done.

Good Afternoon,

I finally got to play golf today. I haven't played since last November. I played only 9 holes because it was suppose to rain. Even though it was cloudy, very very very muddy, wet, and windy, it was not to bad. I didn't play to bad either for my first time out. Had one really bad hole which kind of messed up my score.
