No - no cleats. As a general rule, I just won't head out if it's ice.......

I do not have cleats. I try hard to keep the ice away. When it snows, I shovel the top of our driveway near the cars so we do not get the melted snow into water into black ice on the black top. It does not always work but it has been pretty good this winter.

I have a pair of cleats and have worn them only a couple of times. We usually don't get much snow, except for the past few days when we have had snow.

Do you wear cleats on your boots which walking on slick roads? How do they work? Do they help you keep active?

For me, I think they work great! However they are NOT the perfect answer. They work well on mushy or soft ice or snow pack. But not good on hard icy areas. Until this week, I was able to walk daily this winter, even on slick roads. I also learned that on some ice they just didn't work. Then last Saturday afternoon the worst thing happened. It rained and melted all snow and ice on the roads. It rained more in the evening and froze solid. Then it snowed 9 inched. So the snow covered up the real slick spots that I would have avoided. I chose to walk 2 blocks to church on Sunday morning. I had my boots with cleats on. Within 1/2 block, I slipped and I was laying on my back. It was a hard fall. As I said the cleats are not perfect, but they are good.
