Feb 15,'15 ! Where has the time gone? Have been taking care of a sick friend at her home since Dec. 1st and hospice has been there every step of the way. I'm staying in the Albany area right now and have not been home for some time. Just got the internet hooked up at her house so here is hoping that I can get on the computer more often.

Labor Day, have not been able to use the computer due to the pain in my back and left leg and foot. Therapy for two weeks now and some times it feels better and then sometimes it has gotten worse from the therapy. Scale has been kind today and I'm now 255 !

Have been trying to get Whitney to walk with Zoe and I in the morning. He just doesn't like the walk. One of these mornings he is going to surprise me and walk along nicely and enjoy the time that we spending walking our one mile route.

The gardens have been giving me a real workout everyday. The weeds do grow nicely, now if only after I pull them out of the gardens they would stay away. It is great exercise, bending, squatting, digging, pulling, lifting and moving in every direction. Nothing I do in the Winter comes close to these movements. I'm thinking that is why the weight is coming down.

Busy day today. Christmas in July on the Hallmark channel so I have cleaned out the dog toys and switched the old ratty toys for new ones from the Christmas toy box. I don't think that will have burned up enough cal. today. It is just so humid that I really didn't feel like doing much. Glad that I worked out this morning and didn't wait until evening.

Moving the scale in the right direction makes one feel so wonderful. I'd forgotten how great it feels. So I'm the lowest I have been in a year. And I'm looking forward to keeping that scale moving down !

Great day today. Over 10,000+ steps. Mowed the lawns and got most of the burning bush clipped. Mopped the kitchen & bath floor. Great exercise ! How about You?

Whitney and the toad,
Seems that there is a small toad living in the back yard. He hides out during the day and comes out at night. Whitney found him last night and they hopped all over the yard last night for 20 mins. They never came in contact with each other. What great exercise for all three of us !

Day surgery went well and in a few days I will be able to get back to the gardens and lawn work. Right now I'm walking around the house to get my 120 min work outs in .

Have been able to walk 10,000+ steps now for a streak of 4 days. It feels so very good to be moving around again. I don't know why I put off walking most of the time. So I have started walking today early to get a head start on my next 10,000+ Step day !!!

Spring is finally here. The April rain has been falling to bring the May flowers and now the winds are blowing to help with the snow removal. Looking forward to seeing those May flowers in my gardens. Have seen new growth coming up from the ground.

In my last blog I set a very long term goal for the year of 2014! I have set the goal to lose 50#'s by Feb.21, 2015 !!! I started with SP back in Feb 2010, and lost 30+ #'s ! I have kept most of it off for these for years. So I am making this year my year. I am going to keep telling myself that this is the year that I'm going to track my food, exercise, eat healthy and do the Spark Activity Tracker Challenges each month. I hopefully will complete them every month. This is my year, I believe that I can do this and I'm going to keep telling myself that I can do it and for a short time goal I'm keeping the long term goal from Aug. when I started using the SAT, That by April 10th 2014 I will have lost 30 pounds. I only have 6 pounds to go. This is something that I can do.

That was a nice snow that we had yesterday. Whitney has enjoyed having snow all over the place for a while now. So I took 4 hours and got the snow shoveled out of the way. In a few days that snow will harden and Whitney will be able to snow bank walk again.

Great day when you start it out with exercise that gets your body warmed up for the day.
wasn't on top of my game yesterday . Felt all day as if we would be having some kind of weather storm. Before bed last night it started to rain and this morning it has started to snow a little. Have stepped up my Glow On Goal from 6,000 steps daily to 8,000 steps. Have been pushing forward this month to make the challenge goal. I over did it a couple of days, but did finish the goal ahead of time. Have a great weekend everyone !

Been 3 wks & 1 day since we lost Bizz ! Zoe has been eating less and less each day so on 8-9 we had a "meet & greet" at the SPCA with Calhoun. What a cutie, but Zoe didn't even give it a chnce to see if she would enjoy having him for a playmate. Hope that maybe he is still at the SPCA and that we can give it another chance on Tues.

That was my last normal day, from the vets words that Bizzie Boy had lymphoma and he would have 4-6 weeks left.

It is a little over a month since I have been watching what I'm eating and have added on exercise to the daily plan. And here I am standing on 270 #'s. Adding nothing and losing nothing ! So I am going to drop the cal from 1400 cal/day down to 1200/day. Lets see what happens over the week ahead. How are you doing ?

Seems there is a black cloud over the house today and it came right after I got on the scale.
Eating right and have added exercise on and was hoping for a pound lost, but instead I have put another pound on. Just not happy with myself. Will have to get back to logging my food into the computer again and see if I can find the problem. Oh well, here is to a better week ahead.

So much has happened since my last post. My beloved was told that there was nothing left to do about his cancer on the 5th and on the 13th he was taken to the hospital and he was gone by the 16th. The military service at the Soloman National Cem. was so nice but now what ?
I just have not had my mind on eating healthy and I must get back to eating correctly and get exercise in so that the pounds start coming off rather than putting them back on.

So Monday I will once again start up and I'm heading out tomorrow to get the right foods back in the house. I started last week to walk the Pups again and that is going well. Will start adding back some other form of exercise.

Been out raking and doing some gardening. Looks like I really need to put down a new lawn, that should burn up some calories. HOW are you doing ?

Got the snow out of the way and then the ice off the driveway and unplugged the sewer drain, bring on that warmer weather ! It is wonderful to have that early Spring weather, but we will be right back into the freezer in another day ! Enjoy while you can. Well Fall is here. School started today and the weather is hot and the humidity is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Feel sorry for the kids in school !

Today I noticed a few of the trees on the Mt. have started to change color. It is really early for those kinds of Fall signs.

I have finished the 8 week diabetes challenge. I was able to met all my goals.
Lost 9 pounds & 12 inches. Cut my insulin in 1/2 and have built up a great routine of strength trainning and cardio workouts !
How is every one else doing here on SP ?

Well it has been a different year with the gardens. In the hood there have been 16+ trees removed that had shaded my yards. With all these trees gone, I know have sunshine and all the gardens that have been in place for 20+ years just can't take all the sunshine. So many plants have died and in their place are growing the healthiest weeds any one could ever see.

So I have been working to get the weeds back under control and will have to be changing up the gardens to full sun from shade gardens. So I'm putting in many mins a day on this work.

Hope that everyone else are doing well and it sure would be nice to hear from some of you out there !

What a wonderful evening last night. A cooling wind came along and it was great for sleeping.
I was reading yesterday that for people that are taking Vit D, Calcium they should be taken with each other along with Magnesium and Zinc. Then you should take them at bed time because they cause good sleep. Has anyone else read that ? I have been taking those all together but taking them at noon and then all afternoon I'm fighting fatigue. Starting today I'm changing it around !

It is nice to see that there are two new teammates here at the Capital Region Team. It would be nice to see some of the people that used to stop in from time to time again. This is week 3 day 6 of the diabetes challenge. I'm doing well with the challenge and have lost 4.5 inches and 5 pounds ! Yesterday I was able with much help from a dear friend to finish off my home fitness room. I have set up my treadmill, health walker, two stationary bikes and my urban rebounder! And today she and I will be breaking the room in! Wish you could come over and join in !

Days 10,11,12: Well, Friday- Sunday has been hot, no humidity, and on Sunday evening we finally got some rain which of course brought the humidity! I have been exercising as well as I can with the heat. Need to spend more time over at t he pool !

Day 6 & 7 of the challenge and I mowed the lawn and it was good to be able to do it with out sweating a river. It was so cool out yesterday that I did a lot of weeding also.

Today I did the last challenge video and happy to have done the three days !
Tomorrow I should weigh-in to see how things are moving along .

Day 5 of the diabetes challenge. I'm finding that doing some of the videos has been a real challenge. So glad to have an idea of what to do, and some day I will be able to do those moves. Do like the chair exercises. Fits into where I find myself these days. Weak, and having less motivation to get the exercise in. But will continue to do my best !

Day 4 of the Daibetes Challenge. Yesterday was a challenge with two parties to attend !
I was so happy when I got the daily report on my food intake for the day. I finally ate enought, protein, carbs and fat and didn't go over my calories !

Been using my urban rebounder and my stationary bike again. Today I'm hurting some in the legs. Yet it will be well worth the effort that I put into the workouts. I'm following the suggested video strength trainning stuff also ! Walking the pups is still my favorite time of the day. Early in the morning before the neighborhood wakes up and the traffic begins!
All you hear are the birds and squirrels !

Computer scammers are at work in a big way.

Calling people telling them that they work for microsoft and that your computer has sent out an error message. Microsoft doesn't do that ! So just hang up the phone other wise they will have complete entry into your computer and all your information.

Storms held off here till the kids got home from school. When it finally let lose, we could hear the hail falling on the roof, yet I didn't see anything in the drive way? Street was flooded for about an hour and the start up of another storm here. Hope that everyone had protection from the winds and hail, and that you didn't have any leaks in the roofs. The storm was a good test for the stablity of home structure.

Today doesn't seem to be a humid as yesterday and the next two days are looking really wonderful for some outside activities again!

Any one walking in the Glens Falls area?

I have finished the 30 Day Cure for Diabetes ! I have cut the fast acting insulin that I take with each meal and at bedtime in 1/2 ! That may not be a cure yet, but I'm really happy to be taking less insulin during the day. I figure that as I continue on with this food plan things will be getting better. I have dropped 7.4 pounds and 14 inches! That to me is a big success for one month ! So I'm looking forward to continue with what I have been doing for the last 30 days. If I get shakey I will start up Phase 1 again for 10 days! Thanks for all the support !

Started up the 30 day Cure for Diabetes yesterday and I also have joined the Jumpstart Challenge for Jan. last week. So I'm on my second week of the exercise daily. So far it has not bothered my blood sugar. So I will continue on.

I stepped away from sparking here on the site due to the rush and confusion of the season. I get on here and time slips away.

So I had gotten up to day 15 of the Cure and stopped short due to the want to celebrate with friends and family more, with no quilt. I only put on 3 pounds from Christmas Day until Jan. 1 when I started up again with day 1 of the Cure.

I purchased a new bathroom scale and I hate to say it, but the endo doc's office scale is correct after all. But no the primary doc's scale. He is moving to a new building and getting new scales so will have to wait to see what his new scales has to offer.

So my new weight is 10#'s more than my old set of numbers. So once again I get to lose the same 10#'s again ! Monday I weighed in and 2 was 268.2#s ! So forward to losing and eating healthy once again. I hate the way I was beginning to feel while off the Cure Plan.

So tomorrow I will catch myself back up on my blog and yes, I will re enter the days so that anyone following the blog will know what is going on.

Day 11 Had me make sure that I wasn't eating bad fats and oils ! Most processed veg oils cause inflammation NO TRANS FATS !!! Really shouldn't use margarines better for you to use real unsalted butter ! Yes that works for me. Here are some of the fats to stay away from. Refined, polyunsaturated vegtable oils: canola, safflower, sunflower, corn and soybean.
Farmed fish and factory feedlot beef, dairy , poultry. No more microwave popcorn. All fast foods cooked in deep friers. Most commercial salad dressings. No more granola bars or processed chips or crackers. Commercial baked goods, mixes for cakes, brownies etc.
Mayonnaise, veggie burgers with soy, Butter substitutes, or butter blends.

Good for you Avocadpes, nuts, seeds. Grass-fed beef, dairy & eggs. Wild Alaskan salmon, sardines. fish oil supplements, walnut oil, Extra virgin olive oil, Sesame & peanut oil, my love coconut oil and dark green leaf veggies !

Day 12 Add whole grains and Fruits to your food plan. Slow cooked steel-cut oatmeal, not the instant. brown rice, not white. Barley or buckwheat. Whole grain breads, pastas, Stay away from white flour breads & pasta. Be true to yourself and leave the peeling on the fruit when posible. Fresh or canned or dried. Pomegranate has power and is very healthy for you!

So finally I'm getting the things back that I have been longing for Fruit and whole grains !
Now things with this new eating plan seem complete..

Day 9 eliminate all processed meats ! Okay that is not going to be hard!
Day 10 Add healing diabetic veggies to the menu try to buy local grown items.
mix them all up into a healty salad, watch the dressings that they don't have added sugar and high fats. lightly stem those veggies snack on the veggies vs the chips etc.
have nothing less than five different veggie each day ! Okay that will not be hard !

Day 8 Today I'm to make healthy snack choices two snacks a day. Making sure that I have slow carbs with either proteins or small amounts of fat! So here is todays plan for snacks. I will be having celery with almond butter for one and the other I will be having 4 almonds with baby carrots 4.

Day 4 Drink healthy water, tea, coffee !
Day 5 NO Fast Carbs pasta, white rice, refine white flour, refined processed foods.
Day 6 Have a healthy well balanced Breakfast, most important. Slow carbs, protein,small fat!
Day 7 NO more fast food lunches. Save some of last nights dinner for lunch!

Things are going along smoothly and I'm having to cut back on the amount of insulin that I have been using. I don't find that I'm hungery, but I did have on the 4 day cravings for bread.
Have not gotten on the scale but was happy to have moved down the size of pants & blouses!
Blood sugars are much lower than they where on the insulin and have dropped down very low a few times. You really must have your doctor on board for this food plan. Glad that I was able to have the endo office clear me to do this change ! Still hoping to 1/2 the amount of the medications that I use for diabetes. That is my goal! If I come off all within a year that would be gold.

Day 1 Stop eating all forms of sugar ! ALL
Day 2 Add a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnimon to your daily food intake ! That was easy
Day 3 Stop drinking any form of Soda, and all sugary drinks even if it is articical sweetener!

That is where I am today trying to drink nothing that has any form of sweetener in it. Water with lemon is okay to do. Watch the caffinine also, for it doesn't help with controling the blood sugars. I'm still holding on to this new food plan as being the answer to the riddle of diabetes. The medication seems to make it okay for you to continute eating all those sugars.
But I want off the medications for I don't like all the side effects that come with them. The meds don't help you cure diabetes, it just masks the problem and creats different medical problems down the road. So that is my goal ! To try to at least 1/2 the amount of medication that I'm taking. I have all ready had my first decrease in my novolog (fast acting insulin). Have dropped from 15 units with meals and bedtime down to 12 units for meals and bedtime and I have only been at this for two days ! Will keep you informed!

This is it! Day 1 if the cure for diabetes. The cupboards are cleaned out of junk food, the fridge is filled with healthy healining foods, and I am part way into the first day. Having read the book over again for day 1 I'm to give up eating sugars of any kind. No fruits, whole grains, sugars of any kind (YES, even artificle sweeteners except for stevia). So I got a late start to the day. Bkft was at 10am, 1% cottage cheese, yogurt, carrots, and a banana. Now how did I forget all ready NO Fruit for the 1-12 days to cleanse all the sugars out of the bloodstream. This will allow the body to start burning up stored fats ! And not use the sugars to make into more fat! Lunch was 2 scrambled eggs with a little skim milk and sharp cheddar cheese grated over the top of the egg. Afternoon snack turned out to be a couple of baby carrots with 10 peanuts. Cracked my own to use some energy! For dinner I have planned some chicken breat baked and a toss salad with tomate, carrots, celery, cucumber, and red leaf lettuce. Then I will have a snack later of either veggies, with small amount of mozzella cheese,

Day Surgery today to relieve the right leg pain. Betty can't take me because it is later in the day and will be dark when we leave the hospital. It has been good hearing for so many SP yesterday. Some have lost more, some have gained back. Glad to be back and hope that I can get this team moving forward. Then again maybe it is time to just let the team go. Will be trying to stop in daily to chat about the up coming 30 Day Diabetes Cure healthy eating plan. It is rather cold out this morning here and the frost is thick on the grass. So much for the computer being fixed. This time my wireless router was in the process of dieing. Here for a couple of hours and then it wouldn't let me get out to the server.

So I'm hoping that we have taken care of all the computer troubles.

Starting today I'm hoping to drop in with a few words on how the daily dealings with diabetes is going. I'm looking at starting a new program of healthy eating and will share as I go along this new road to better diabetic control. The medication is working, but I don't like the side effects that the meds give and I don't see this as being a cure but a bandaid. So I'm going to follow a 30 day plan to reverse the effects of the disease of diabetes. Come join me as I give this new lifestyle a try.

Sorry folks I have been MIA due to my computer being on the sick list and down at the computer hospital. Sure glad that it is family owned because it has been gone a very long time with no replacement.

Yes, I lose more weight during knitting season! I have not started my knitting because this is the fall and leaf picking up season. I try so very hard to keep my Blood Glucose #'s down within the normal range, but with exercise I have been seeing higher numbers. All due to the fact that I have become insulin resistent.

With no insurance it must be very hard to get your perscription. I was told by my endo that Price Chopper dosesn't charge for Metformin, I don't know about the test strips and lancets.

I'm glad that you feel free enough to get involved with talking about your new healthy living lifestyle.

I'm single and my Pups are my family for the most part.

Hi I've had diabetes since 1998 when I was diagnosed. I don't have insurance so I'm really trying to watch my numbers and food intake. Its been 5 days with Spark and I feel better because I can come here and write how I feel and what I'm doing and get feedback. I take metformin 500mg 4 times a day and it seems to be helping along with better food choices. I've started sewing more and that keeps my mind and hands busy.

I have been a diabetic now for 16 years. Over those years I have been under control for the most part with my A1C down around 6.2 ! When it would go up over 7.5 the doc would change medications and I'd drop back down to the 6.2 ! Back in April of this year many strange things started happening and I found myself with a very bad infection. While in the hospital I was started on insulin and was refered to an Endocrinologist in Saratoga Springs. when I started there I was 10.1 and have come down in the last two months to 8.1 !

Right now I'm on Novolog short acting insulin with meals and bedtime. Lantus long acting insulin at bedtime. And we just added back Byetta with breakfast and dinner! Nice little med that takes your appeitit away. I also take Metformin ER at breakfast and dinner. Seems like a lot of medication, but we are hoping to cut the insulin down over time.

How are you doing and how long have you had diabetes?
I see that you are doing the Challenge. That is a wonderful place to start here at Spark People!
If you follow their suggestions and their food plan you will I'm sure see some changes. The first time that I did the challenge I lost 14#'s and it felt so very good to be losing again. I know that it was the Strength Training stuff that did it for me. I must get back to doing that again.

Just stopping in to say a hello to our two new members. If you have ideas of things that you would like to see in a team, Please leave a note here I'm all ears. I took over the leadership of this team because it was about to die. Then I found that there are only about 6 active members. Most of them are also members of the 518 Team.

I have asked for ideas, name change, subjects that interest you! I have been thinking of taking this team to a new area. Showing more interest in people that have diabetes who want to work on getting better handles on their blood sugars and losing weight to improve their A1C's. Any one interested in that ?

Well I have a much better understanding of what is going on with this team. There are only 5 active members. Most of them belong to the 518 Team also. It must be horrible to be getting the same messages from the same people day in and day out. Most of the people that are listed have not been active since 2006& 2007. So even though the team looks like it has numbers of sparkies there really isn't !

Judy has been working very hard to get people together with the 518 team. Each time we do get together we have been able to meet other people that we have not met before. That is the fun in the gathings. So seeing that the 518 mets the needs of those who want to gather, is there anything that we are not getting around to do yet.

I know personally I'm working on three things with my journey.
Weight Loss Fitness Diabetes. With these three area I'm wondering if there are others that are working on the same matters? Maybe we should just join up this team with the 518 team and find a need that isn't being met by the 518 Team.

Please if any one has any suggestions I would love to hear from you. I have already left one team that I was trying to build back up from the bottom. That was the start up team that I entered Spark People! There where maybe 5 people that would stop in from time to time. I finally just left the team and don't know if any one was left there. I hate to see that happen again. Rather join up the two teams. And I'm going to be looking into how that would be done.

Sorry that no one could make it to the 518 Teams gathering. What a wonderful Park they have at the Zim Smith Trails. The picnic area was wonderful and clean. The playground is right near the pavilions and they had something for everyone. So if you are up near the Malta/ Ballston Spa Exit 12 do stop in and enjoy yourself.

Colet you are sure dropping the pounds with that room tempreture water a whole liter! All in the morning before 10am? I most likely drink that much water every morning, but not at room Temp. I lke my water cold with lemon!

Doris are runner has been couched for a short period of time and will then be getting back on the road again. And then Patrick is finding that he is doing more walking than figured ! Love how this team has something for everyone. Have a great Friday everyone. Remember to have a great weekend, but don't lose sight of your plans and your goals !

ps I will be walking with the 518 Spark People Team at the Great Escape (Six Flags) for their Walk in the Park event for the Childrens Miracle Network Hospital in Albany, NY
you still can register the day of the even if you find yourself up in the Lake George area of NY and feel like walking a 1.5 The gate will open for walker and for a small fee of $10. you can join the 518 TEAM walking ! Get $50. worth of donations you get a free ticket for the day at the Park enjoying the rides and entertainment. The walk is a family friendly event not a race ! Slow is fine and so that lets me join in with the Team for this walk !
Looking forward to meeting any of the Capital Region Upstate NY Team !
