Hi,

For many people the lower abdominal area is one of the last places where fat comes off; meaning you can be quite thin in other areas, but still have some fat in the lower abdominal area. For me, I have to get my body fat % really low to flatten out in this area. If you are incorporating, strength training, cardio, and clean eating you are definitely on the right path. I suppose the question is how low do you want to go with your body fat %. It might be helpful for you to get your body fat % taken to see where you are at and make sure you are comfortable bringing it down lower.

Thanks for everyone's input. I think in addition to everything else I'm doing, I might try some Pilates. I'm definitely not looking for perfection here, but I would like to get a little more control of this flab. I've worked very hard to be where I am now and I'm not ready to just accept this midsection the way it is. LOL. Maybe I'm obsessed!

Do you children? I have to say, my waist is fairly trim (for a chubby girl; see my pics) but my LOWER tummy has a wee bit of flab, also. I've had two C-Sections. That is exactly where the flab is. I figure that will NEVER go away, with out some type of plastic surgery/liposuction. And, I've heard the same thing from others as well. Unless I'm gonna wear a super low cut bikini, I'm not too concerned...

At 48, I've had to accept that I'm never going to get a tiny waist. If I'm diligent in keeping up with my ab work and keeping my weight down, its not too bad. If I slack off on either of those things, its one of the first places where the flab reappears. Actually, my brother and I have had this conversation, so I can verify that its not a female thing. While you can't spot reduce, work that targets core muscles will at least mean that what's under the flab is tight. It doesn't do anything for you if you're at the beginning of your journey, but when you're at or close to goal, that can make all the difference. And a strong core is a good thing anyway, right?

As for the extra skin... yep, I've got that. Not enough to consider surgery or interfere with how clothes fit, but its a good thing I never wanted to wear a bikini.

Ann

Hmmmm.....I have the same problem! I am 5'9.5" tall. I have lost 30 plus pounds, gained about 8 back in the last 6 to 8 weeks.
Anyway, when I was 8 pounds thinner then now I was really close to having a decent tummy (not perfect I've had 4 kids). My goal is to weigh between 155 and 160. My tummy has always been the last to go. My Dr. also suggested Pilate's to help give me a leaner tummy. Pilates is a great core workout.

Just a side note: My auntie lost over 100#'s and her skin took quite a few months to catch up.

People commented on my being too skinny as well. Even when I gained a little back they said I was losing too much. I think people just get used to the way we were and it takes a little bit for them to get used to the new you.
At this point I am kicking it into high gear and doing the Body For Life 12 week challenge(which I just started up again. had great success before) and then maintaining with that lifestyle.

So keep up the good work! Shoot for you normal middle of the chart BMI and love the skin your in!!

Well Ladies, Is it excess skin or is it flab? My sister over the last few years has lost over 100 lbs and has lots of excess skin. Doctor tells her that it will tighten up somewhat but, never like it was. Having kids didn't help it either. I've lost over 30 pounds and have had 2 kids and my stomach, no matter how toned the muscles are underneath, is never going to be bikini worthy. I wish I could tell you that it would all eventually be beautiful. One nice thing about my stretched marked tummy...my husband calls them my war wounds. Congrats on the weight loss. Keep up the good work. Try, as hard as it is, to concentrate on the positive results!

I have a very ugly problem. I have been on SP for a year now and have lost 62 pounds (86 altogether, because I lost some before I got on SP) Anyway, I started trying to eat clean about 3-4 weeks ago and I average about 80-90%. I do cardio 5 times a week and ST 3 times a week. I just can't seem to get rid of this stomach flab. I am 3 pounds away from the goal the doctor set for me and I'm not completely satisfied with the way I look. I feel amazing though. Anyway, people are saying I look too thin because my collar bone is protruding and my upper body is very thin. (I'm 5'10") But, why can't I get rid of this fat in my lower stomach? I know that you can't spot train, but is there anything I can do to decrease this? If one more person tells me I don't need to lose anymore weight, I'm going to undress and show them my midsection!!!!
