Lisa,
You are inspiring me once again. Part of my list is to get in 10 minutes of strength training a day too. I am already walking an hour a day, every day, but I really need to get toned and that won't happen unless I do strength training. There is something empowering about becoming a doer, not a trier. Excellent list. It includes the spiritual as well as the physical and I like that. emoticon emoticon Deb

Thank you both for your encouragement!!! I KNOW I can do this too! I really have overcome so much that this almost seems silly. It is not though because right now this is just where I am! I have to be honest about or I will not succeed! With you all on my side I KNOW it'll happen! If it happens faster or better that's awesome, but if it happens exactly like I've written I will be okay with that too! If you need anything remember that I am here for YOU too!

Hi Lisa! I'm new again for the 3rd time. I can understand where you're coming from. I too set up goals that were too hard to reach, or too hard to do. Then because you've pushed yourself so hard, and really feel like you've given so much to try to reach that goal, it's almost painful to not have success..
Like you, this time I'm going to try taking smaller "bites" so I can be successful with smaller goals. Taking baby steps is better than not walking at all! You keep up the good work, I really feel like you can do it!

I have lost weight.
I have gone from 195
to 17- pounds

Lisa, you really are amazing. I like your new approach. It's very do-able and you sound very determined. With all you've accomplished, and you've accomplished SO MUCH, please remember you've gotten what you've needed for yourself - your health, happiness, and your wonderful spirit.

I was commenting about lists on a letter I got from a friend last night. As I was writing I came to the horrible realization that the list I made today is almost exactly the same as the one I make most days & have for YEARS! Since I lost my weight I have been 'trying' to get a smaller waist, a tighter, stronger core & my midsection( ribs to mid thigh) less bumpy & more even toned muscle. When I first got sick with collegenous colitis I lost 25 lbs which dropped me from 150 (that was my original goal weight) to 125 in less than 2 months. I was skinny, but I still wasn't toned like I wanted to be.

I have always been an all or nothing kind of gal which has not helped me at all! If I can't exercise hard for an hour at a time 3 days in a row, I failed! Obviously, this is not working for me. Today I read an article called 'Is being lean worth it?' & it got me thinking about my approach to this (& most of the things in my life!) & how I have continued to fail. I'm probably like most people. I want it NOW! I want it to be easy & fast! I don't think I have what it takes to stay that lean! On the other hand I have overcome WAY bigger obstacles than my huge stomach!

The reason I finally quit dieting & had to change all of the way I ate was simple. Dieting was too hard!! I could starve the weight down a few lbs, but never get it totally off because it was TOO hard & I couldn't do it for the rest of my life! I'd starve 5 lbs off & then go back to eating junk! I fluctuated between 185-190 for 7 years TRYING to lose weight! When I quit this & started making sensible choices I started losing real weight real fast. I lost 20 lbs just by adding exercise to my life. (I had never exercised regularly ...just SUPER hard while I was starving myself!) I lost another 20 just by not drinking soda & eating junk food!

I must have a pretty good metabolism, I figured, because I stayed in that range(185-190) all those years drinking alcohol, drinking soda & generally eating garbage! I have maintained the weight I wanted (Starting with 150 until dropping down to 125) for about 4 years, but I have never gotten my midsection to my desired look. My pants are not tighter, but my 'muffin top' is back! Somehow in the last six months I have allowed this to happen. I know muscle is heavier than fat so even though I weigh the same my body fat percentage has obviously changed. I'm not okay with that!

So what am I going to do? I am going to start with THE LIST!!! I am not going to try to exercise for an hour a day. I am going to exercise for 10 minutes a day. I am not going to try to walk for an hour a day. I am going to walk 10 minutes a day. I don't TRY! It's not like I start walking & after a few minutes think I can't do it so I turn around. I don't even put my shoes on most days!

It is the first day of August. Also known as the first day of being done TRYING! My new list begins here. I want to set small realistic goals that we will DO!!!! I'm taking my power back...yet again! I am going to take my measurements & maybe a photo and put it somewhere I will see it every day. I may be able to put the photo up here AFTER I start seeing some results...IDK...I'll TRY???

1. I will walk 10 minutes a day.
2. I will do core, legs or arms strength training for 10 minutes a day.
3. I will read an inspirational or encouraging piece every day.
4. I will meditate &/or pray for 5 minutes a day.
5. I will get dressed & be ready for my day first thing in the morning.
