Sometime in the 80s, I had horrible foot problems. Foot surgery was considered but then I was prescribed orthotics, which I dutifully wore for seven years. No sandals in those days! I was so happy to be able to walk pain-free because of the orthotics that I found the Volksmarchers (www.ava.org) and started those 10Ks. After all, 90 yo members were walking, at least 5Ks! After around seven years, the doc said I didn't need orthotics any more and that's when I started buying lots of shoes--and sandals!!! :-)

Sadly I'm a very slow walker. I was a docent at the St Louis Zoo for 20 years and when we'd give a tour, I'd always be last in the group. It was so embarrassing. The spirit is willing but my poor feet aren't. I've been fighting lymphodema for years. The legs carry a lot of my weight and use wraps on the lower legs to keep down the swelling.

I've finally found a good podiatrist, so hoping for some improvement. There's an appointment next Tuesday to get some orthotics made to go into my shoes. I'm hoping that it will help.

Years ago, after my first knee replacement, I started walking at the zoo on my lunch hour. My company wasn't too far from the zoo. I'd count it a great achievement if I could go a bit farther each day. That's around the time I started volunteering at the zoo.

Thanks! I started walking 10Ks in 1993 and I was exhausted at first, but I got used to them. We all got used to them, and most people can, too. It just takes doing them, and then slowly. Walking faster becomes a natural result.

Thanks, also tired. Today went to Target and got the $50 off a Christmas tree (also 30% off) in the morning, then raced home to get a little lunch ready for our neighbor who just lost her husband a few weeks ago. She got to see our new little dog, who barked at her. Then went to the birthday party for 11 year old grandson. I'm in awe at your stamina with all the walks. I could never make them.

For the first time in quite a while I had to do the Thanksgiving dinner. My son and DIL usually host it, but this year I think that she got too busy. She's a nurse and it's combining with the late Thanksgiving date. The little grandson's birthday is today, so she had a kid party today and all the family over tomorrow. I said that I'd do it.

Confession---I cheated big time. I got the turkey dinner from Fresh Thyme. It was good. I never told anyone that I didn't cook it myself and no one seemed the wiser. I put the potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole in my own dishes.. It also came with cranberry sauce, rolls and gravy.

Some of it. I'm getting too casual! But then, it's only my husband, my son, and me and it seems like just another dinner but with turkey breast.
