Linda: I hope you feel better soon.

Roz: Nice to meet you.

Realized, finally, that I am tired from the cruise, work and my projects. Went to bed early yesterday. Did my steps, though. emoticon

Travelling is hard. Since I have gone vegan, I don't know what to expect. I think it will be fairly easy.

I have a full blown head cold. I just have to wait it out. I would like to get out for sand paper, but don't feel like it.

All I did yesterday was prepare food and watch a documentary on Amazon, What the Health, about veganism and the food production in USA.

Good Morning Everyone,
After that trip to the Netherlands and Belgium I put on some weight, so I am back to watching my intake and portion sizes. That will be easy as I am not tempted to eat as much at home as I am on vacation, plus the CHOICE of a variety of foods is not available when I cook. I know I can do this!

This morning I will bowl and later make a track to the gym for some weight lifting, cardio and swimming.

My mentee and her siblings are due to come there tomorrow for egg dying and stuffing. Next week we will have the annual and brunch confetti egg bash which was delayed two weeks due to my travels. Hopefully the lawn may have dried out a bit for that, but one never know with April showers.

Have a great, healthy weekend sprinkled with activity and fun.

Hi, Roz! Thank you.

Nell, I was not on early, seems to be ok now.

All those flowers... everything is blooming, so I either have a cold or allergies. Yuck!

I am making a cross. Thought we had sandpaper. We do not. Whenever I get going I will go get some. Until them my project is on hold. Bummer!

Lovely weather Dennis! Here too!

The bluebonnets are in full bloom and the indian paintbrush and buttercups are lush this year, as well.

This is happening in my back yard.

Yesterday, I joined another Spark Challenge to keep me on track. This one is for home exercising. Perfect for the weekends or rainy weather. No excuses.

Still working on spring cleaning - my bedroom today and probably the rest of the week since I am doing the closet and all the drawers and cabinets. There are more than a dozen drawers and I have 2 cabinets, plus 2 night stands. The extra bonus - all the steps while clearing and cleaning.

My purple iris bed is in full bloom. Lovely.

Your property seems beautiful, Ruth!

I am going through a mild detox on my vegan diet, 3 weeks in. Yesterday I was craving sweets and this caused me to overeat the grains. Must NOT do that today! Keeping busy helps, but the detox is making me a bit fatigued.

Grocery shopping today.

Good news is that dh is on board with eating no meat and dairy for dinner. He can have his meat eating out during the day.

Dennis: So sad that Michigan lost the NAAC title, but Philly folks are pretty proud of the Villanova Wildcats. I am sure the street corners will have pop up vendors selling Villanova tee shirts just as when the Eagles won the Superbowl earlier this year. Any chance to make a buck.

I have an agenda today to clean the apartment, clean (at least) the tops of my kitchen cabinets and put air in my bike tires. The rest f the week is penciled in with dentist appointment, theater. and bowling. Yesterday I went hunting for half price Easter candy for the annual egg bash and brunch I hold for my mentee and her family, but many of the stores I visited had not marked it down yet. I will have to keep an eye out this week for sales.

My side garden is sprouting colorful hyacinths and tulips, while the patio garden is abloom with yellow daffodils. But I planted 200 last year,to add to those that were already there, but I don't see evidence of them.. I know the deer do not eat them, but I am wondering who did or what happened the they didn't come up this year. Bulb rot? Pest predators? Bad bulbs?

As soon as it stops raining I will apply another dose of deer repellent to the day lilies and irises in the bank and friendship gardens.

Have a great day, everyone.

"Hark, I hear a robin calling!
List, the wind is from the south!
And the orchard-bloom is falling
Sweet as kisses on the mouth.

In the dreamy vale of beeches
Fair and faint is woven mist,
And the river's orient reaches
Are the palest amethyst.

Every limpid brook is singing
Of the lure of April days;
Every piney glen is ringing
With the maddest roundelays.

Come and let us seek together
Springtime lore of daffodils,
Giving to the golden weather
Greeting on the sun-warm hills."

So glad everyone enjoyed Easter.

I returned yesterday from my cruise and bowed out of the Easter festivities. Mom was with my brother, so it was fine. I enjoyed my trip, but wanted a bit more me time. I am pleased that I exceeded my goal of 10 thousand daily steps on the cruise. I have never been that active (intentionally) on a trip and it felt great and more in control.

Ruth, what a wonderful trip. A river cruise, correct?

Had a nice Easter. the trip to in-laws was fairly OK. They liked the food I made. Dh took brisket too. FIL was at the house with us for the day and we took him back to the nursing home. The home was clean, but it's a nursing home. He is treated well. I guess that is all you can ask for of a nursing home in a tiny Texas town.

My iris are in bloom in the back yard, lovely purple blooms.

I am going through a bit of detox getting off meat and dairy. However, I feel better today. If I get worse, I will get lab work. Otherwise, my BP is down and I have dropped several pounds.

Ruth your trip sounds fabulous. Glad you had a great time! We are planning a trip like that when dh retires. We have a friend in Copenhagen. This year we are planning a hike down into Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas Panhandle, America's second largest canyon. Horseback riding and a jeep ride through the steams are on the agenda. We might get a cabin and I can cook my vegan meals.

Well, my SIL recovered and joined us for dinner with her husband. She was not THAT well to make us the desert - Pies, but had her husband pick up 2 of those giant CostCo pies.... I made them take the pies home with them. Way toooooo much pie!

Tonight it is U of M vs. Villanova for the NCAA Championship. GO BLUE!!

Back from my Spring Break travels to the Netherlands and Belgium.ihe weather wall in the 40 and cloudy or dreary.. I met my Dutch friend in Niemegen and we are going to think about meeting in Denmark next year. She came on board for lunch then to my stateroom for some wine and catching up on ten years worth of happenings. At 5:25 the boat started pulling away from the pier and my friend was still abroad. I quickly ran to the concierge to tell them that my friend was on board, then went up to the bridge to get the captain to pull back in. On Saturday night I sat at the captain's table and apologised for the flub, and he apologised to me. Apparently everyone was on board at 5:15 so he took off early instead of waiting for the 5:45 sailing time. So I wasn't in the wrong, although I sure felt bad about my friend not getting off before the sailing time.

Saw and toured lots of old medieval cities and charming places like Brugge, Ghent, Antwerp, Rotterdam, but the most fabulous was the Kuekenhof Flower Gardens, I have been waiting half a lifetime to see this and it didn't disappoint. I was in flower heaven for the visit.

Looks like you have a great plan to achieve your health goals. Making your own meals and taking them to family gatherings sounds great. I assume everyone understands.

I too am more committed to a healthy lifestyle. I will be more aggressive for April and see where I am. My cardiologist says although my heart condition is not creating a high risk environment ....yet, it will for sure as I age. I am abut 50 lbs overweight according to the BMI chart.............. which means I am really about 30 lbs over weight - haha - so my renewed journey begins.

Hi, Roz, when I am not busy during the day, I have trouble sleeping. That is why I try to stay busy.

I grew up in Dallas and used the bus a lot. We don't have mass transit out here in the suburbs of Austin, our town voted not to pay for it.

Dennis, great that you found someone with something in common. I would like to expand my range of friends.

I am cooking today for meals ahead and a meal I am taking to in-laws tomorrow. I am eating vegan and this is my way of getting to eat with everyone. Dh is purchasing some delicious brisket to take, as well. I am even making bread. I will be a hearty soup, salad and bread. They always have dessert, so I don't need to make that. There is a bakery in their town that makes all kinds of sweets. I will take fruit for my dessert.

Roz - no that does not happen to me.
While in San Fran several years ago we purchased a one week "pass" for the mass transit system to get around. It was great! There are buses, trolley cars and the "tube" subway between San Fran and Oakland. All of the stops are close to each other, no need to walk long distances to get to where you need to go anywhere in San Fran.

Good morning Everyone,
Grateful that I had a good night's sleep at least I got up a little later than usual.I have observed that onceI do very much in the day I do sleep so much better but I don:'t always have the energy to do as much physically as I would like to!!!

Does this happen to any of you?

Yesterday I attended the midday service at our church in the city.It is a 75 minute drive by bus from where I live .I usually park my car and go by bus.

1---It is less stressful than having to be in trafficking on the highway..

2---It is much cheaper----Seniors travel free on buses here at any time day or night.

3---There is always someone to chat with on the bus.

I bought myself a blender as the oneI had spoilt last week due to my overloading it with coconut
I'm really pleased with it.

It is sunny and bright and it looks like another hot dry day, should go to the grocery today and also fill up on gas for the car Good Friday is a public holiday here and also Saturday and Monday so it will be a long fun weekend for most.

Have a blessed day everyone !
Much Love,
Roz.

Back in MI we had some Siberian Iris'. They were breathtaking beautiful. Alas, their bloom was sweet, but very short, lasting less than a week.

DW and I attended a neighborhood pot luck block party up the street yesterday afternoon. It was nice to meeting other neighbors for the first time. Our community is built pretty dense, there are over 50 homes on our street alone. We now know about half of them. A great find last night was a couple that love wine, as we do. I see a future get together in our future.

Hope it works out. Maybe you could seek an investor?

I trashed 3 sheets of vinyl yesterday and one pillow cover. This die cutting is a learning process. The vinyl is not cheap, but I ordered the lowest price I could find online. The pillow cover was in the clearance bin at Hobby Lobby and was $2. Hated throwing it away. Finally got a design on a pillow, but not perfect. Almost there!

We started having thunder in the middle of the night, lots of rain and it is still going! Right now it is thundering and lightning. No grocery store today.

My iris are about to bloom in the back yard, this will be good for them. They are double bloomers. They bloom in the fall and the spring.

The neighborhood meeting went well, all RSVP's showed up, we had 9 neighbors, counting the presenters. It appears that the HOA Board is heading down a path to take over the golf course thru a "rental" agreement with the current owner. The HOA would form an entity to run the course, hire a golf course management firm to operate it and together the HOA and Management firm would strive to turn a profit and bring the course back to its great condition.
We will see. This is very costly - about $600,000 per year for the first five years. Any and all profits would ultimately be returned to the HOA members.

I hope you find a solution to the golf course, Dennis! Is it open to anyone? Then you should not have to shoulder the burden. Perhaps advertising would help.

I received my heat transfer vinyl, so I can decorate some pillow covers today.

Have a fantastic day. It will be rainy here, and in the 80s.

Hopefully tomorrow will be our last "cool" day for the season. Looks like 80's after tomorrow.

I am hosting 6 neighbors to discuss an issue that will be submitted for a HOA vote. The vote will be to approve a five year assessment of $100 per month to help save our community golf course. The golf course owner says he will close the course unless we help him cover his losses. There is much more to the issue, but not enough room to discuss it here. If the course closes our property values will go down 15 to 25%. This issue is dividing our close community.

We had a celebration at church yesterday for our pastor's 15th year anniversary with the church. The congregation loves that couple! They are great!

Then we went to Olive Garden with friends. I am sure I got too much sodium in my food, but I kept it vegan. Our friends love to eat out, so it will be once a week for me.

Nell, my dh is getting used to me NOT wanting to eat out.

We are visiting his parents on Saturday and I am taking a full meal with me, vegetable bean stew, green salad, home made bread... and dh is picking up some barbecue brisket. My MIL does not like the treatment FIL is getting at the nursing home, so he will be moving again, to another town close by. We will pick him up on our way there Saturday to bring him to the house.

Good Afternoon Everyone,
After a week of sunshine we are having a slight shower right now,so the temperature is a little cooler at 30 degrees C

Church service was well attended and we have daily services in observance of Holy week.
On Wednesday we have a joint service with a congregation from another area but they will come to us. Thursday we have washing of the feet which I find is always so humbling. Then we have Good Friday service at 9 am highlighted by our Easter Sunday service.
So this week will be rather busy and one of reflection on one's spiritual life.

Hope everyone has a great week!
Stay Blessed,
Much Love,
Roz.

Linda, I eat out once a month, but my husband eats lunch out all the time. I don't have to go with him. When I was younger, I could eat out a lot with no negative repercussions, that's no longer true. He used to get upset with me, he doesn't anymore, I think he enjoys the peace.

Nell, yes, so true about the foods that are not on any plan. I have dh to contend with. He always says, don't cook, lets go out to eat. That makes it harder for me due to the high amount of sodium at restaurants. There are healthy options but I have to always have a discussion with the waiter who does not know how the food is prepared. Even the "healthy" menu items are overloaded with sodium, if you read their nutrition info online.

Dennis, I hope your shoulder is healing quickly. Glad you enjoyed your friend.

Tonight ... at 8:30 p.m. your time ... turn lights out for 60 minutes!

FYI: Starting as a symbolic lights out event in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour is now the world's largest grassroots movement for the environment, inspiring millions of people to take action for our planet and nature. Since then it has grown to engage more than 180 countries and territories worldwide. Earth Hour is a global WWF (formerly known as World Wildlife Fund) climate change initiative. It is an event that aims to create awareness of people taking responsibility towards a sustainable future by turning the lights off. Note: Earth Hour is not to be confused with Earth Day - they are separate events.

Happy Earth Hour Day!!!

Good morning.

Linda, I've been eating by exchanges for 40 years, lots of flexibility for cooking, not so much for eating out. It's kept my weight off for all these years, but I still have to say No to myself a lot, for all the usual things that aren't on ANY diet plan.

One more place to update a credit card expiration and I'm done until the next time.

This was a bit of a tough week. Injured my shoulder on Monday and played golf all week with my visiting buddy. Today he returns to Michigan and I will start my recovery. At least the weather in Tucson is rather nice, a little cool today and tomorrow with temps in the low 70's and a stiff afternoon breeze. Will be going with my wife and her sister and BIL to Tucon's Botanical Gardens and the Buttery Exhibit and then to a Glassblower's shop for some demonstrations in their trade.

Enjoy your time away, travelers. I believe it is possible to NOT gain weight on a cruise. You can do it!

I have made the switch from DASH diet way of eating to flexitarian. I will eat animal products only occasionally, maybe once a week going out to eat with friends. So far I have been vegan for a week. My pants are looser and I have lost 2 lb. on a high carb diet! My reading list is The Starch Solution by McDougall and Forks Over Knives.

With the time change, that's a long wait for a room, Ruth. You'll be glad to see a shower and a bed tonight!

Arrived in Amsterdam this morning. With good planning I was able to sleep through the flight to Europe. I feel refreshed, but cannot get into my hotel room until after 3 pm.

This morning I am going on my own personal discovery tour of the area around my hotel.

Later. Have a nice weekend.

I am heading out of town on Sunday. On a 7 day cruise. This is a repeat trip and I am well aware of all the wonderful temptations. My plan is simple: enjoy with moderation, up my step count to 10,000 from my current 8,500. I know that is do-able on the departure and arrival day (so much walking around). The other days may be a bit more challenging, but I up to the challenge. The ultimate goal - no weight gain.

Safe and enjoyable travels, Ruth. In a year or two we plan to make our first trip to Europe.

Still beautiful here, in the 70's. Just perfect.

Enjoy your day, everyone!

Final day of golf with my visiting buddy from Michigan. Weather has been very nice. Today they say we will set a record with a high of 91 F.

Good Morning: As usual I did not sleep last night:, never can before a vacation, too many things on my monkey mind. But that will be good, because I , hopefully, can fall asleep on the plane

I have no plans to cart my computer along with me. This will be a true vacation. See you in April.

It is snowing and it is sooooo beautiful. My only regret is that I will not be able to take advantage of this early spring storm to get in just a few more runs of the ski trails.
I have hyacynths in bloom, but they are now under snow. The daffodils will wait til I come back from my vacation to bloom.

I used my snow plow shovel today and it was very easy to maneuver once I got the hang of it. I parked my car at the end of the drive way to at least give others a place to park, because I can moev the car into the garage.

The big concern now is how crowded te airport will be tomorrow. All the folks who were bumped from flights because of the storm will be taking up any available spaces on Thursday once the storm subsides.

Be back soon!

I made the first pass clearing the driveway. It's still snowing, but the plow went through, putting that mountain of ice at the bottom of the driveway. The ice boulders were heavy, but not as heavy as they'll be tomorrow. My husband can push a snowblower (he's doing that now) but he can't lift heavy snow anymore. The power keeps flipping, I just hope it stays on. It's cold out there. I have a generator to keep my heat on, but few others do.

I saw the bomber is dead. He reminds me of the sniper we had around here in 2002, 10 people were shot just going to the store. It was terrifying, you couldn't just say you won't let him control your life and actions, the shootings were in the most ordinary of places that we shopped at all the time. The bomber "confessed" by his own actions, sentenced himself to death, we don't have to endure a trial.

My husband is showing the guy across the street how to use the snowblower. This is great! He's 50 years younger than Ron is, can't afford the snowblower but can certainly wield it.
