The best thing about my Christmas was that it was peaceful. No stress. Also, I felt better than I often do at Christmas, in that I didn't feel melancholy or focus on the 'missing'. Instead, I was better able to look at the life that we live with gratitude.

We dutifully celebrated with family early before Christmas day. Christmas we were alone and it was nice just to sleep late, stay in our pajamas and relax. I made soup.

Even though we all live together, there's something that much more special about Christmas Day and all that goes with it starting off with the grands opening their presents - one still believes in Santa (he's 3) and he is a pure delight - his favourite expression when opening presents was, "I didn't see that coming!"

What was the best thing about your Christmas?

For me, it was Christmas night. My son and his friend, my grandsons, and my nephew and his wife were here for dinner. I also enjoyed my new great grand puppy was here! About 70 pounds and he crawled up on my lap and slept about an hour!

When I was employed, our Business Development Dept. would exchange small gifts. Usually my VP and I would received home made treats or a small gift card for a coffee shop from our staff. My VP and I would chip in and give our staff $ - not much, I think the card carrying the cash ....and our words of thanks was the better part of the gift.

I don't exchange gifts, but I do present friends with small poinsettias in December.
As a kid, my father, a florist, would always drag my sister and me along on December 24 while he delivered big poinsettias to friends and family and business associates. (I think Mom was at home furiously wrapping presents) . The only good thing about the whole day is that we got to eat lots of Christmas cookies and fruitcake, but otherwise we were bored.

To this day I continue the tradition, but I am never bored by it, and I usually do it the first week of December so people get to enjoy their flowers.

I will take gifts to family and friends that I will visit Christmas week. When they live far away, they get checks and a card.

Bags are recyclable. It really is a waste and a drain on our resources to wrap presents in paper that is going to be thrown away. If I envelope a gift in tissue paper I will save it for packing items to be mailed, or for confetti eggs at Easter. I try not to be a wasteful wrapper.

I like the re-use-ability of bags, but nothing looks more promising and exciting than boxes wrapped in bright paper and tied with a bow!

Both. The grandkids prefer to tear open paper, for others I use bags that they can use to transport them back home. The cats like to play in the wrapping paper pile for awhile, so that's their gift.

I got my decorating done earlier than usual this year and enjoying it. My cat has only removed a couple ornaments from the tree. My daughter and I decided to just fill stockings for each other. We have company coming for the week of Christmas and will be cooking together and going to see lights.

Keep moving!

DW has been "Christmas-ing" since Thanksgiving weekend, despite her bout of Shingles. She loves the Christmas season and spends most of it transforming our home into something like a Macy's Santa village................. with lots of Manger displays to tie in our faith. We have the first round of our family visits next week with the arrival of my son and his significant other for a few days. He is smart and frugal, taking advantage of some cheap pre-Christmas flights from Michigan to Arizona. I am the cook, and enjoy the opportunity to make "special" dinners for our many guests. All stops are out for this time of the year. Over the next three weeks we will enjoy a standing prime rib roast, bone in ham, lobster, king crab legs, porterhouse steak, baked lassagane, pot roast, cornish hens, stuffed salmon, even sushi. Plus the great wines and spirits! January is for recovery, December is for debauchery. lol

The whole shebang. I decorate, buy and wrap gifts, bake and cook a big dinner for the whole family. It's the one day of the year all of my kids and grandkids are here, which makes it the best day of the year. It's worth the work! Someday my grandkids will tell THEIR grandkids about the wonderful Christmases at Grandma's.

I'm just getting around to buying a hybrid, but I think the concept is good. Had one been available earlier this week when I bought a new car, at a price I could afford, I might have bought one. I kinda like the idea of an invisible chauffeur.

But, alas, my next car will probably be an Uber or a Lyft.

I foresee a world in which insurance agents will have to retrain for new jobs.

My mother, had serious medical problems and I would drive her to the City because she didn't trust her self to drive. I could see where this could really be a benefit if you had health reasons and you wanted to maintain your independence. How great that would be. It could drop you off at the door of your Doctor's office and go and park itself. I would definitely buy one if it would keep me independent!

QUESTION: Will you be purchasing a self driving vehicle in the future? Do you approve of them?

Me? I am not a fan of these vehicles..................yet.

Yesterday on the news there was a story about a self driving Tesla vehicle that the owner used to drive him home after his visits to the bar. The police saw him sleeping while the car was driving him home. He was arrested for DUI.

Most Sundays, after fellowship, I go out for brunch with a group of friends. Other than that I cook, but I would not always say "scratch." There are so many canned. frozen (as opposed to fresh) foods that I include in my diet. I rarely eat prepared meals or kits. After 55 years of cooking for myself I can get together a meal in 20 minutes in a microwave, conventional oven or stove top.

I love to cook, and do most of our meals from scratch. I love making soup, and baking breads and buns. (I like baking sweets too, but then I just eat them, so I try to stay away from that kind of cooking as much as possible!)
DH and I usually eat out once a week - usually lunch or brunch - rarely do we go out for supper - unless to our daughter's house, where the meals are also cooked from scratch.
I am lucky; my DH is easy to cook for! He is always game to try something new!

So........................................
...????????????????????????????????????

How many home cooked, "from scratch" dinners do you prepare in any given week?

Me and DW go out to dinner once a week (sometimes, rarely two times). One or two meals are prepared from "kits" or frozen, pre-prepared meals, or from left overs. So, that leaves about four dinners that are "from scratch" adventures. Back when I was kid, mom would make ALL the daily meals from scratch.
