Ruth, I saw VICE with my son and granddaughter last Sunday. A very troubling story, ... in that our governmental system of checks and balances can be contorted and abused by power hungry individuals............. especially by someone like VP Dick Cheney. The movie takes the viewer back in time to show how the American people were duped into believing in causes based upon lies and political marketing. I understand that the producers and financial supporters of the movie are self proclaimed liberals and that most of the content was presented in a slanted manner............ but the basic premise was factual.

One thing is for sure, Sept. 11th, 2001 changed EVERYTHING. We are a much different country since that day. The power of fear is undeniable and all encompassing. So sad.

Nell, Whaaatt??? That does not seem right.

Ruth, is Vice on Netflix yet?

We are going to a political meeting today at 11, which I said I was done with after I retired. Guess not. I am coerced by dh. So I was able to purchase a new blouse yesterday. Good tradeoff. I guess it will do me good to be among people.

Cough slowly going away.

We can't even fire the thief until the police do an investigation. Without a confession we can't even terminate him for cause. I have a friend who runs a bar downtown. He found out his bookkeeper (a friend of his) was embezzling and fired her. A couple of years later he got a call from another employer looking for a reference. My friend told the guy she had been embezzling. She sued him for slander, AND WON! Unless she was convicted in a court of law, it didn't happen. We can't have him ding our unemployment insurance by being able to collect unemployment benefits, so of course lawyers are involved, with that extra layer of liability of his possibly not fully understanding because of the language barrier.

We are getting snow tonight and tomorrow, so the guy will still be able to shovel snow, so he'll be getting overtime pay. I guess that's good.

Sorry to hear about the thievery at the Condos, Nell. It is a disappointment when someone you trust turns to the dark side.

After bowling and lunch out and about I went with a friend to see" Vice". Christian Bale's hair and makeup were amazing. He really looked like Dick Cheney. I think I read that he put on 60 pounds to play the part. I'm sure his doctor gave the approval; but what a hell of a time to lose all that weight, unless he has plans to become a character actor. I though Steve Carrel did a great job; he is a surprising actor who has had many serious roles that he has nailed in recent years. I admire his talent.

Tonight I am chilling with Netflix. (Maybe I'll find something with the "real" Christian Bale. )

Have a great evening, Dennis.

Nell, I hope something is done. When I was on our HOA Board, I was the "hard-nosed" one. Everyone thinks I am so sweet, but I believe fair is fair. I was also that way on the municipal jury I was on. They reduced the fine and I went along, even though I did not want to. It was just a traffic ticket, so I did.

Finally I had a good night's sleep without coughing! First one since the day after Christmas.

Celebrating SIL's 70th Birthday tonight at her favorite Italian restaurant in the Foothills section of N. Tucson. Very, very nice place. Looking forward to great food and service, reminiscing of times past in her life and lots of fun.

Linda, I hate it when I have a medical test and no one calls me back.

The condo board meeting last night was good. A couple of us have had time to absorb the shock of this employee we have loved for so many years being a thief, a couple found out for the first time. The police will get the store video of a couple of the questionable transactions and we'll know for sure.

Best wishes on those tests Dennis. I had an ecogram in December and apparently it was fine because I have not heard a thing.

Overslept and that throws everything off.

Making chicken gnocchi soup this evening.

Everyone, best of wishes with all your meetings and activities.

No medical problems or weather problems to report.

January life is quiet, with just a couple of lunch invitation and ski dates, With the exception of my walking group who are now going indoors at the mall, there is not much going on. Guess we all need a reprieve from the holidays.

Hey Mookie, we have snow up at Ski Valley near the summit of Mt. Lemon. The runs were all full of skiers this past Monday morning. The parking lot was full, the next door restuarant's lot was full and they were guiding people into parking on the side of the road! It is a 35 min drive from our home at the base of the mountains.

I have a 9 am check up with my cardiologist this morning. I also have a arterial ultra sound scan of my femoral and aorta arteries at the Cardio Vascular Surgeon's office in Feb. I am a candidate for an abdominal aorta stint in the near future. Everyone wants to be prepared ahead of time for the procedure. Me too!

Ruth, we'll be getting snow this weekend, I don't know how far north it will go.

I have a condo board meeting tonight, I'm looking forward to discussing how to deal with the employee that has been stealing from us.

Judy: Lookin' good.

Roz: Back to normal.

Dennis: Ditto

Nell: Ditto

Only about six trails opened on the slopes today. Normally there are 30 or more, but no appreciable snow so far this season. The temps were in the mid 30's today, and a saw a few flakes flying, but it was mostly promise but no substance. It took about 1 1/2 hours to get our ski passes verified before we could ski. The ski resort is transitioning to all computerized ticket sales and registration. Nary a soul to help the lines of people who showed up to ski on the reduced snowy slopes. The slopes were granular in the early am but turned to soft slush by 1:30, when we decided to call it quits and head home after lunch. But despite the limited trails it was still fabulous to be out-of-doors in the quiet of the swoosh.

Thank you, Roz. It is slowly getting better. I would like to be there in that beautiful weather. Here it was 70 yesterday and in the 50's today. That is about as cold as I like, however, the sun is shining.

Judy, wow. Glad you are doing better.

Have a great day everyone.

Judy, WOW! You have picked up some hardware! Glad to hear the operation was a success and that your recovery is ON TRACK!!

Finally I am back to my normal routine after the holidays! Golf today, chores tomorrow.

The District Court kept DW downtown until 5 pm. She was almost selected to serve on a jury for a trial involving a child abuse case. She is done for now, probably will not be required to show up for jury duty for some time.

Ruth, yes, that is the book. Good for you on the skiing!

Nell, sorry about the Ravens. I watched the game.

Dennis, I saw that Bale won Golden Globe for best actor. We will probably wait for Netflix on that one. Did anyone else watch the showtime series Escape at Dannemora? It was Ben Stiller's director debut. Patricia Arquette won the Golden Globe. She deserved it. It was rather a gritty series.

Saw the movie "Vice" on Sunday. Outstanding acting with a "presentation" similar to "The Big Short", with the same lead actor, Christian Bale as former VP Dick Cheney. Amy Adams was outstanding as the wife of Dick Cheney. Cheney was VP to President Bush (Jr.).

Taking DW downtown to the District Court Building for her trial duty this morning. At least the morning traffic rush in Tucson is not like the Detroit area (where we moved from to Tucson). Hope she gets a PASS and is sent home before noon. Would like to go to a downtown cafe for lunch!

I got a call from the social worker at Mom's retirement community. Seems she decided that someone is stuffing her closet with clothes, men's and children's clothes, so that she can't get in. She piled a bunch on her walker and took them down to the social worker's office and dumped them. They wanted me to come out right away, but I was busy, it will be this afternoon. I know exactly what clothes she has, I bought most of them, but she has a lot of coats. I've asked her many times why she wants them, but she does. I think she is dumping everything on the floor. Sigh. It's always something.

We also found out that someone at the condo is stealing from us. We have to figure out who, I hope it isn't a current employee.

Walked the mall solo this morning ; and will meet up with others who want to walk outside this afternoon. It's a breezy 38 degrees F today, so I'll dress accordingly.

Tomorrow some helpers are coming to do some winter clean up in the garden. Leaves keep swirling around and collecting in corner spots and that looks so unsightly. If there's time they'll also help me with the basement. It's really toasty down there now.

Skiing begins this Wednesday. I might have to do some squats to get my knees used to the bending.

Roz: Nice to see you posting again.

Linda: Be well. Are you reading the book about Mary Queen of Scots on which the new movie is based?

I could never name my champagne toast hybrid Beulah or Bertha. It has to have a sexy name,
like Rock or Brad, (Brut) or maybe Coquette or Lola. It took me weeks to name a dog with personality, so how long will it take to name an inanimate object?

Went to lunch with friends after fellowship today and was able to contain the calories and points to 6 points, leaving me some wiggle room for half an Alsace tart this evening. After suspending tracking food during my visit I am back to tracking and eating sensibly and will begin walking and bowling and skiing this week.
Have a great evening.

We are drearily cold in Texas and both me and dh have decided we do not like the cold. We are still coughing and wondering if it will ever end?

I only named one vehicle, a truck, called it Big Red. It was great for riding in creek beds, etc. back when I was a hiker and backpacker type. If not for back injuries I would still be that type.

We went to the thrift shop this morning but didn't find any treasures and then got some groceries. Lots of snow, but the neighbour got his snowblower out before husband did, so neighbour did a lot of ours. It was nice of him, as snow was deep and husband and I are recuperating from some kind of bug. Apart from that, I did some laundry. We didn't have to cook as there was leftover homemade wheat bread and leftover homemade turkey noodle soup.

I went through some stamps to list on the website. Then I spent some time in the exercise room. Now I'm watching an old duster.

A name for a car ... Beulah was the first name that popped into my mind.

Cheers to all.

After slogging through two weeks worth of mail yesterday and paying bills I am ready to greet the new year. Today I will move 2018's files to the closet, yet rid of files from seven years ago, and start the filing process for 2019.

I am anxious to drive my virgin car, that has been sitting in the garage for a month. Time for the first scratch or ding, can't keep her off the streets. But I wonder if I should name her or him or it? I have had friends who named their cars. Does giving it a name make it more anthropomorphic? You tell me. Any suggestions for a hybrid honda? Nothing speaks to me yet.

Have a fabulous Saturday.

Arrived by Amtrak mid morning. Home again, home again, diggity dog. The train was really comfortable, with lots of leg room, a "barco lounger" type seat, plenty comfortable enough for a long night's snooze, and fairly decent fare in the dining car. But someone didn't warn them that once we left Georgia the AC was not needed. Glad I had a blanket to snuggle in for the evening. One of the perks of train travel, no baggage fees ( 2 suitcases up to 50 lbs and two carry on bags...no cost).I might do that again when I have to travel long distance and I'm not in a hurry.

I was glad to have such wonderful warm sunny weather for the entire sojourn.

I am still dealing with a pile of mail. Five deer were a part of my welcome home crew. Nice to see their sweet faces.

Nell, so glad you got a new microwave so that you'll be ready for the superbowl. emoticon

Dennis: Enjoy your visitors.

Getting closer to super bowl.

Hope to get out of the house today. Still have a cough, but tired of the house.

Verizon has settled with whoever it was, so that we now have CBS back after a 3 day blackout. Now we can watch the football game on Sunday!

I was sick yesterday. Husband is feeling rough today. I feel much better than I did, so I'm doing some laundry. Also, I'm going to make turkey broth today and then tomorrow will make some soup.

The weather is very mild for this time of the year. I'm glad that we didn't get any snow as neither of us would have the energy to shovel today.

Normal sounds great to me too, Nell. Retail... wanting to get every buck they can.

Dr. said not a flu or a cold but severe allergies. This is the worst cedar fever I have ever had. The OTC she recommended helped me sleep last night, thankfully.

All I did yesterday was go to Dr., pharmacy and make stew. It was good. The only thing lately that has tasted good to me.

We have had LOTS of rain the past two days. I got wet yesterday.

Yesterday's snow has melted in Tucson and our community. Still some on the nearby mountains, making for pretty views. It is now 6:36 AM and the thermometer says 29 F. I did not think a Tucson thermometer had any numbers below 30! LOL Anyway, I have a reserved tee time at 8:36 am for a round of golf. We will probably have a frost delay of about an hour. Not sure that works for me. I am going on a campus walk at U of Ariz. this afternoon with my 17 yr old granddaughter. She would like to attend U of A, but the out of state tuition is crazy high. She will need scholarship assistance. It will be in the 60's and sunny this afternoon so I am looking forward to our campus walk. At 6 pm my son, his wife and three kids arrive for a four day stay. The house will be full!

Dennis time to get the day glow golf balls and do a round of golf!

Nell, try getting a box and send the microwave back.

Today the grandcat is playing with the hot wheels track. As the cars come down the track the cat puts his paw on the track to stop them. So cute. I got videos!

It snowed New Year's Day, melted away and then more came down last night and this morning. Got some great photos of the result. I have never seen so much snow on our foothills and mountains.

That is frustrating, Nell!

Our new fridge was making noises. Dh called on Monday. We will see. It has quit. Might have been something sitting uneven inside. Still in warranty, but they will come to house, thankfully.

Christmas is still up. I have the crud. Going to Dr. at 1 pm today to see what it is and get some help to get over it.

Christmas is all packed away until next year.

The brand new microwave I bought in November broke, it won't turn off unless I pull the plug. I checked my warranty, and I have to ship it back to Panasonic for repair. Of course, I don't have the packing box, so I'll have to buy a new microwave. Very frustrating!

I'm having a cup of coffee, too, as a break. I have all three Christmas trees down, the real one has been dragged back onto what's left of the skeletons of the other 33 trees we have dropped in the same spot. After a rest, I'll haul some of the boxes up the ladder into the attic, then take the rest of the decorations down and carry those boxes to the basement for storage. I've been doing the same thing for over 30 years, but it is harder this year for some reason. I'm getting old!

Judy, will you have help getting your house ready for arrival, like food in the fridge? Will you be able to negotiate stairs?
