Implants are A LOT easier and quicker then 6-7 years ago!!! I was in and out in less than one hour - 8am to 9am. The extraction, cleaning out the infection in the cavity, preparing and drilling in the implant and then the application of the bone graft went flawlessly. I go back for the permanent new post and tooth after the bone graft heals completely.... about 2 months (just like a bone break heal). The most uncomfortable part of the procedure is the cost. All in it looks like about $4 K. Some here go to Mexico for this procedure for much, much less............... but I think there is a lot of risk in Mexico???

DH had his surgery yesterday, it took longer than we thought because of eye damage from diabetes. But it went well, we go back to the doc this morning to have that patch taken off and start with the post op eye drops.

Nell, I'm with your husband--I hate afternoon surgeries because of the no food all morning. Good luck to him.

Ruth, enjoy the Japanese wood cuts. I hope the weather cooperates for your picnic.

Dennis, my sympathy for the dentist appointment.

In Washington, it is legal for assisted suicide but there are strict protocols. It's been over 5 years and studies show it hasn't caused an uptick (which was a fear by the opposition) nor has it been abused (another fear).

Grocery shopping for me before the rains come.

Mook................. death by drugs can be very tricky. Some just become vegetables, others throw up the overdose.

I am off to the dentists for an extraction and then an implant. I assume I will be in "the chair" for a couple of hours.

Going to the Philadelphia Museum of art today to see a Japanese wood cut exhibition that was the precursor to the Japanese cartoon film art of today.

If it is not too windy or cold we will picnic in the rear gardens with their weeping cherry, cherry, magnolia and pear trees that are in bloom among all the grape hyacinth, daffodils and tulips. A
sensual feast for the eyes and soul.

Guns are so violent and messy. I am always astounded at the stories of Susanna and Juliet who used knives to end their lives, one because of rape another because of love. I will probably use drugs or potions. (Isn't that an irony? She who refused to take medicines or drugs will use them as her last act on earth?)

My first husband's aunt and uncle did a murder-suicide with a gun. His cousin found their bodies, blood everywhere. She is still traumatized all these years later.

Dennis, be grateful that nurse prevented you from murdering your father. It may have seemed it would be a mercy to him, but you still would have ended up in prison.

Was glad to see Tiger Woods win the Masters. He is good for the game. He sparks interest in golf and attracts newcomers to the game.

So..............suicide. My dad and mom had a suicide pact that when one was incapable of independent thought, motion, basic bodily function maintenance that the healthier one would put the sick one out of their misery. Well, it never worked out in real life. Dad became sick and was losing his ability to breathe on his own..... even with oxygen. He decided that he would probably mess up his own suicide ..... and that mom, for sure would mess up the mercy killing. So, nothing happened. When he was on his death bed and his body was convulsing in a loud and noisy manner I pleaded with the Hospice care giver/nurse to put him out of his misery.......... she said that she had sedated dad as much as was allowed. I asked her to "take a walk" outside for a few minutes. I wanted to smother dad with a pillow... and she knew it and would not leave dad's side. It took another 6 hours before he passed..... it was the most horrible thing I have ever witnessed. There should be a better way to handle such things.

Nell: I had my annual nurse practitioner visit last week and had to fill out all the forms.

But I do think about suicide, as a possible end when I am ready in 25 years or so. I think going out on one's own terms and of one's own volition is the ultimate wish in life. When you have outlived your loved ones, when you have outlived your money, when you have outlived your usefulness and are just a burden on the medicare and care systems, why not? The biggest problem I see with committing suicide is actually doing it. If we are so old and demented we do not know what is going on, would we be able to do it? Could we leave a power of attorney for assistance in this final act while exonerating the assistant? Will America ever be so progressive as to grant this wish to those who wish it? Let me be clear, this should be your wish and not that of someone else. It must be a revocable right. Since we are all of a certain age when we must consider our final days and wishes, what thought have you given to how you would like to die? Do you subscribe to religious beliefs that prevent ease of exiting this life? Your thoughts, please.

We are having a rather rainy and blustery day in the Northeast. I may be going to the mall for a walk to avoid the pop up showers.

Nell, hopefully that "stupid Medicare" form will the worst you have to deal with this week. LOL

Sue, hope you feel better soon. Maybe most of the "damage" is water retention and it will disappear quickly.

Dennis, read about the storms pushing the golf game. No Green Jacket ceremony. Enjoy anyway.

Ruth, I love how you were able to follow through on an interesting historical figure. I love doing that myself. What is transit like in your area? Could you drive to a transit center close to you and ride in on bus/train? As to what I'm researching, DD's family is moving to Bellingham WA this summer and I will follow. Bellingham is 80 miles north of Seattle and the timing is right for them. I've been scoping out the senior housing and transit layout so when they choose their new house, I can make more definite plans.

After services today honoring our
Jewish and Christian roots, I met a friend for a movie about Rembrandt. Since visiting his house last year and walking around his studios, workshop, printshop and paint laboratory, I was more than fascinated by the additional information I learned about this master Dutch artist.

Afterward we four went to an Italian restaurant next door to the theatre for late lunch/early dinner. I brought half of my meal home for savoing another day. Still haven't figured out the "damage" on this yet.

I have a rather full schedule this week, so I'll probably be checking in late.
Sorry to have missed the Masters. But there will be another one next year.
Retired Sue: Hang in there, Spring will come to Canada, mosquitos and all.
Linda: Have a great trip. I hope you sell lots of crafts at the show.
NanaSue: What city are you researching and why? Are you planning a move?

I have often though it would be a great experience to rent out my suburban home and live in center city for one year, close to orchestra, theatre, museums and just a subway's ride to the stadiums. Right now I am looking for a friend who might want to get a three o four series tickets for the Phillies. The stadium in south Philadelphia is 1 1/2 hours away by car and not a drive that I relish at night coming home.Guess the only day games are on weekends, which could be arranged. Those would even be accessible by rail and subway/ no driving.

Due to the possibility of severe weather moving in during play at the Masters, all of the tee times were moved up, starting at 6 am (EST) in Augusta, Georgia. The last group of golfers (the top three players) teed off at 9:20 am to be able to finish before 2:30 pm, when the thunderstorms are due to arrive. So, I am watching 5 hours of the tournament this morning, and nothing else..... except posting on Spark.com. Y'all have a great Palm Sunday!

Nell - I'm just back from out Palm Sunday service - always good. I won't make it to the Easter service next Sunday as my DD and family will be here but i may get to Good Friday, depending on when they arrive.

Linda - Nice to get out and find some new things to spruce up the wardrobe. I'm trying to avoid having to buy larger spring pants but I'm not sure what I have that will fit. I could almost start wearing them now. The mani/pedi sounds nice -something I should do for me. I've only ever had one manicure - a gift from my son some years ago. Hope you enjoy your trip to Corpus Christi and don't have any issues finding appropriate food when eating out.

Dennis - No lizards around here (I don't think) but we do have bats to help control the mosquito population. Too early for them to be out here yet of course but in another month, depending on how wet it is, we'll be swatting at them again. At least we're a little too far south (but not by much) to deal with black flies. Hubby is watching the Masters but for me watching golf is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Just not my thing but then I golf very rarely and very badly.

Sue - The lunch was lovely and my friend was glad that she went. She may go to more of these events. We always both see lots of people that we know and arriving as early as we did gave me a good chance to chat with others. I was just chatting with a friend at church who was at the lunches last week and will be at the one I'm attending on Wednesday.

Thankfully, even with all with all the eating out (add in a night of Skip the Dishes and another dinner out on Friday) my weight gain has been minimal but since we just started the 5% spring challenge I'm supposed to be losing!
Later on Friday hubby and I headed out for a late lunch (for him) or early dinner (for me) and then to our local home show. We had some work done last year on the house and we wanted to check in with a couple of the exhibitors. Also since the driveway didn't get done, wanted to see if last year's quote would still hold. We came home with a new treadmill - one of the slim space saving models - the iQSlimTread which is now set up in the little-used living room. Hubby actually got on it yesterday and I did a short workout, I woke up late yesterday with a bit of a cold and not a whole lot of energy so didn't push the workout even though I didn't get anything done on Friday, Thankfully I'm feeling better today - cold medication seems to be helping. As for our "lovely" spring weather - after a couple of nice warmer days, it's cooler today and I came out of church to see white stuff falling from the sky - again! At least almost all the winter "white stuff" has disappeared and this won't hang around long but really we don't need to see any more of it!

We are getting ready for Corpus Christi and will miss the service today.

I got out and purchased some new clothes yesterday. Pants, blouse, leggings (black and white polka dot) and new walking sandals.

I will be offline a few days.

It's raining today. It's the only time you can sleep in and not feel guilty, lol.

The mani/pedi helped. Dh was the only man in there, but I know other men get them. No polish for him, of course! I got light pink. Depends on my mood, the color. I have had turquoise and purple before!

I might go shopping later, guess I won't melt.

Have a great day with your Saturday plans, or non-plans.

We only got HBO for The Sopranos then dropped it when Six Feet Under ended. I guess I don't watch enough TV to warrant extra channels beyond the cable package.

We are getting free HBO too. Don't watch Game of Thrones, Sue... I watched the very first one, too gory for me.

Dh came home early. Yes, more drama.

We are going for a mani/pedi this afternoon. The place I go serves margaritas and wine, dh will have, I don't drink due to medical conditions and meds. We both need it for different reasons. He loves the massage chairs and they massage our shoulders too.

I don't mind the gecko lizards we have around here and the green ones, although they look rather fierce. I know they are beneficial. I still don't know those big ones I saw in AZ that flare out their gills. Scary looking things!

We love our "house" lizards. They help to keep our patio's insect population in control. This particular spring we are seeing A LOT of all sorts of insects - due to the rather wet winter and early spring we have experienced. The other night we were chased off the grill bar by a swarm of "nats" - small bothersome things! That has NEVER happened before! GEEZZ this is more like Florida this spring!

The condo board meeting last night went easily, thank goodness. An owner I hadn't seen in a long time showed up, he's a great guy and might be moving back in when his tenants leave. I got all the signatures I need for the window replacement approval submission, now I just need the drawings from the contractor.

Linda - My mistake as I thought that the quiche would be off limits for you - thought that eggs were one of your "taboo" foods. I'm sure you would have enjoyed the lunch!

Ruth - Actually the lunches are appreciation events for the volunteers only and there are no more than a very few resident representatives present. We also don't have too much opportunity to interact with many of the residents when we are there singing although some of us know some of the people who are in the homes and in some of the homes we will have residents come up after our program to comment - all positive of course! The real nursing home volunteer "heroes" in my opinion are those who go in weekly to help with residents on-on-one, We're just there for an hour or so to entertain - not that our purpose isn't important especially to those who love music.

Nell - Hope that all goes well with your board meeting, I would think that good weather would keep people away because they'd want to be out enjoying the weather. That's the way it sometimes goes around here anyway,

Ruth I can sympathize with the chilly temps - ours were actually on the minus side of 0 (Celsius of course) first thing this morning and only hit about 2 or 3 C (30s F) although there was less wind so it didn't feel too cold - just not too spring-like. When I was heading to my vehicle after singing today I noticed some white stuff floating around in the air - yes THAT four letter white stuff! There was a bit that came to settle on the ground after I got home but since we're supposed to hit temps of about 13 C tomorrow (50s F) it'll be gone by morning - if not before.

Dennis - Pictures are all I have of spring to gaze at - for now! But the flowers will arrive here eventually too!

It's off to another lunch tomorrow. I'm having my friend pick me up although this one is within walking distance and that would get in some exercise and kill two birds with one stone so to speak. However there is a highway to cross and then the busy (at times) 4 lane street that I'd be walking down so hoofing it there probably isn't a good idea. Besides I don't think my friend was going to go to the lunch until I mentioned that I could use a ride so it was my way of encouraging her to join us, She's the one who recently had hip surgery and has been away from the group for a couple of months or so until this week so I think it's good for her to "get back in the game" so to speak and get out to socialize with the group.

Linda, it's good you have your quilts and mugs to keep you out of the drama.

Nell, I hope the board meeting goes smoothly.

Ruth, I do hope you get your travel plans worked out. With the changing winds, you never know when they might close the gates again. Enjoy your garden time.

Sue, enjoy all those outings and singing times.

Dennis, those are nice pics of your area. When I visited my friend in Marana, she mentioned the snake fence running along the bottom of the lattice work fence to keep out snakes and gilas. One time, though, a young gila got under the gate and ended up in the pool. Poor thing.

Laundry this morning and then my weekend starts. No tasks or errands till Sunday. I'll still be busy with computer stuff.

Ruth, I hope you don't end up going to Cuba, from what I hear, it is not pleasant.

Sue, I would be able to eat that lunch. I can eat eggs, bread, chickpeas is the only "pea" I can eat and cheesecake, as well! What I cannot eat is meats, spinach, broccoli (or that family), mushrooms, asparagus, beans. the lowest purine meat is chicken, but still too high for me at the present. Fish is just off limits altogether, except for a few I would never find in a restaurant.

Nell, I hope the condo gets fixed up ASAP!

Dennis, beautiful photos. I would not like to see the gila monster, at all! I lived in AZ for a few years and I saw lizards who would flare out their head, like on Jurassic Park, that is what I thought was a gila monster, what are those type of lizards? They are very scary!

Dennis: Nice photos. I wonder if gila monsters eat stray golf balls.

Sue: It's nice that you go to so many of the breakfasts and luncheons for the volunteers. I am sure that the residents of these homes love having you and also having someone else to talk to. Once you live in a tight knit community of folks who can't get out much, it is nice to have visitors from the "outside."

Did not sleep well last night, lack of exercise yesterday. So I was up early to return a book to the library. I am waiting for the arborist and her crew. It is brrrrr cold out there this morning, 42 degrees F when I ventured over to the library at 8 am. Hope it warms up so I can work comfortably in the garden.

I have a condo board meeting tonight. I hope it's easy, the weather is nice so there will be a lot of people showing up.

Guess it has been a few days since I checked in here. I intended to get in here last night but got a bit distracted by having to return a call (it went to hubby's cell phone which is our old land line number) to a lady who wanted to give me information about a Ladies Dinner I attend each year. Thing is I already spoke with the coordinator of the dinner and let her know how many tickets I'll need. Oh well, this lady used to organize the event and had no idea how I was getting my information about it now but I have my ways! emoticon emoticon

Nell - OUCH on the window and blind replacement costs. While the window wasn't a bit surprise, it's not great having to add to it because of someone's carelessness.

Ruth - I realized you were not in the market to purchase the ebike. Nice to know how they operate and to become familiar with one before actually renting one. Too bad they want an arm and leg for the insurance costs on the rental. Hope that you get the vacation plans sorted out and end up where you want to be. Neon pink jacket and helmet would just about get me to take up cycling - but it's been TOO many years and I never did spend too much time on a bike as a kid or teen. i am fortunate enough to be able to eat anything - which can be a problem if I'm not careful.

Linda - Sorry about the gout flaring up again! It's hard to have such restrictions on your diet especially when you are going to be travelling and eating out. It certainly makes it challenging. You wouldn't have been able to enjoy most of my lunch out at the nursing home today and it was very good. They served up crustless quiche, chickpea salad, garlic bread and cheesecake. Gluten free apparently aside from the garlic bread and - since it was a served plate - reasonable portions. Good thing as we had to go sing afterwards at another nursing home.

Dennis - I'd be avoiding that Gila Monster too. I imagine that once it's "fed up" it will disappear into it's hole until it's feeding time again.

As I mentioned above our Drifters group (or at least half of us) attended the first of a few "Volunteer Appreciation" events - mostly lunches - today. It's volunteer month in our province and volunteer week in our community. We'll be attending another lunch on Friday hosted by two of the retirement homes who combine their resources for the even as they have many of the same volunteers. A select few of us will attend another lunch next week hosted by the nursing home up the street. Yesterday I received an invitation to a volunteer appreciation breakfast that will be held in a couple of weeks at another home. Of course I don't HAVE to attend all of these events but the homes appreciate us showing up to eat just as they appreciate us showing up to sing, so I go to most of them.
Tomorrow is another singing day at the home that fed us today so I guess we'd better show up!

Third day in a row of golf. Saw this Gila Monster on the 9th tee. This guy was about 14 inches long and moving slow across the turf towards a native growth area. Gila's spend about 90% of the time under the ground in their burrows or rock lined dens.... and only eat when hungry.... about 10 to 12 times a year. This spring there is plenty of food - ground built bird nests, large insects, mice, baby ground squirrels and infant rabbits. Gila's are venomous so one needs to be wary.

Linda: I think you are wise to stay out of the fray. Mugs is an excellent excuse.

Nell: You seem to have more problems with that condo. Isn't it time you sold it and made your life easier? Or does your son reside there?

I have been calling my cruise line (they sent me an email about personal information needed for going to Cuba. CUBA? I thought I signed up for a cruise to Bermuda. Have been back and forth with cruise line, my traveling companions and bike rental companies in Bermuda. They are charging almost the same amount for insurance as they are for daily rental. What a crock of you-know-what. I could buy car insurance for less than e-bike insurance.

If I thought I could drive on the left I would rent a motor scooter, but I am afraid that 75 years of conditioning of driving on the right will confuse me because that is a learned set of behaviors. I was once almost run over in Tokyo because I looked the wrong way when crossing the street. I do not, nay, cannot deal with driving on the left.

I think I am through with PT. I know what works and what does not. I think I can do the exercises that alleviate the knee pain and I can make concessions/accommodations for the things that cause me stress.

Today, apart from buying a bottle holder for my bike I have not been very active. Tomorrow I will spend most of the day in the garden as the arborist and her crew are coming to remove logs and chip what can be chipped.

Before the low purine, I have been eating low sodium for many years. I purchase a new box of salt about once a year and not because it is empty.

Family crisis... getting to a conclusion. Dh going to MIL house today, I will be without him a couple of days. I have quit going and I need to be making mugs!

Linda, good luck with mealtimes at Corpus. The beginning of a new way of eating is always the roughest as you find out what works and what doesn't.

Nell, what a pain! I'm sure she had an idea but didn't check it out first.

Ruth, I've never enjoyed shopping, of any kind. As for diets, I don't count points, though I did try WW a long time ago and found the point system didn't really help/reflect a non-traditional diet. I'm lactose intolerant and have food allergies, so I use a lot of alternatives. Lately, we've figured out I can't take statins so I have to be extra diligent with things like cheese.

Odds and ends today, no schedules but bills and prepping the chicken for the freezer.

I was at the condo yesterday for the window contractor to measure windows. It will cost just under $6000, about what I expected. But in looking at the windows, that crazy woman my son had helping him paint had taken all the blind brackets down and spackled the holes. Now I'll have to pay for new blinds and another professional installation, probably $1500. How can one woman be so stupid?

I can eat just about anything if I make it and know exactly what is in it. I make my own pizza (per slice 3 breads and 1 protein), and a hamburger is just 3 cooked oz of meat on 2 oz of roll. That's 3 protein exchanges and 2 breads, easily fit into a daily plan. This is why I love exchanges, it gives me a way to think it through, and it all sorts out to a balanced diet.

Linda: Stick with the low purine. It will improve.

NanaSue: Grocery shopping used to be a favorite time of the week. I loved looking at the beautiful displays of fruits and vegetables and seafood. I used to spend two hours in the grocery store reading labels. Now I know what I want/need and skip the middle aisles because the only things there are processed foods that won't keep me healthy. I have a WW scanner on my phone app that immediately tells me what the points value is for one serving. After doing that a few weeks I gave up and went back to the "whole" foods found on the perimeters. Now I'm done shopping in 20 minutes (unless I can't find something).

Do any of you (like Linda) have special diets that restrict what you can and cannot eat? Or can you eat anything while watching portions? Two of the things which I have had to give up are pizza (17 pts per slice) and hamburgers (13 pts). About everything else I can eat if I just eat one serving. ??????

Well I ate chicken for dinner last evening and today the foot is hurting again. I guess I will have to stay on the low purine diet. It will be tricky going to Corpus Christ and their great seafood restaurants. I foresee lots of baked potatoes and salads in my future. Plus, the great Mexican restaurants too. I can only eat dairy and eggs for protein, no beans or meats. No avocados! Bummer. Cheese enchiladas and rice? Of course, no walking now. I expect if I stick to low purine this week, I will be able to walk in Corpus.

Enjoy reading everyone's posts. Sue, quite a walk! I have not been watching the basketball, but know about Texas Tech. I have quite a few friends who graduated from that school.

Dennis--You're a good friend. It's good the widow is just across the street; it'll be easier for those spontaneous connections such as inviting for coffee or dinner.
Linda--kudos to the sleep and the mugs.
Ruth--Good pic of you! Actually, it makes sense the knee hurts when still too long. Movement encourages the fluids around the cartilage and circulation which cuts down the inflammation.

Mildly busy today with grocery shopping.

Nell: Despite not purposefully putting on the game I went to check the weather at 11:15 and got hooked into the last two minutes (it lasted 20 with all the time outs) and the overtime session. That, it was a thriller. I loved those red uniforms of the Texas Tech team.

Today I will be working on the lawn, trying to thatch, pull out offensive invading weeds, giving it weed and feed and sowing seeds where needed.

I'll meet a friend at the park for a walk at one.

The e-bike was just a demonstration. I did not intend to buy one, just to try it out before I go away on vacation.

Today I donned my new neon pink wind jacket and helmet or the first ride of the season in the park near my home. I am really rusty and must build up my endurance.

Ruth - E bikes would be a good way to get around but yes they are pricey. More stability with three wheels and support for the back with the seat. Hope that your adjustments help with the knee.

Sue - My "neighbourhood walk" turned into an 85 minute trek and took me through downtown to the edge of our lakeside park and then along the trail that runs along the lake for a short distance. It was a nice day although the sun had disappeared by the time I returned, so I thought I'd make the most of it since I anticipated rain yesterday - that didn't happen. I was ready for some good stretching when I returned to alleviate the soreness in my hips. it was nice to take the time to just get out and walk, but I decided to take a rest day yesterday. Had I not walked so far on Saturday, I might have done my neighbourhood walk yesterday since it was even a bit warmer than it had been on Saturday.

Ah yes March Madness - for some reason hubby seems to root for Gonzaga - no reason why - and they went out in the Sweet 16 round I think. I watch some of it with him. I'm sure he'll be tuned in to the final tonight, Funny - it's the only time he watches basketball unless our SIL is here or we're at their place. He's a bit Raptors fan.

Well around here there's lots of grass which is now showing itself - at least what we can see under last fall's leaves. It was too wet to ever get all of them cleaned up and it will be awhile before it's dry enough to clean them up - once all the snow is gone. It's getting there but there's still a good sized patch out in the side yard and no doubt a pile at the back which doesn't get much sun.

Busy week coming up so it's nice to have a a quiet day today. It's cooler and very windy so I'll head down to the treadmill shortly for today's workout.

I understand cats thrive in Phoenix. Bathrooms everywhere!

Today is a warm day in Philly and I plan to get in a bike ride or walk after the laundry is put away.

I am now eating in the dining room instead of the kitchen island. I hope the low chairs will alleviate the stress on my torn miniscus because my knee will not be dangling off a stool. The other knee friendly change I am making is to pull the driver's seat all the way back, sit on the seat then pivot and lift my legs into position and move the seat forward. It sounds like such a piddly thing but it alleviates the stress on the knee and may give it a better chance to "heal" if such a thing is possible.Strangely the knee does not bother me when I am in motion, but when I am sitting still, at the table, computer or in bed it aches. Go figure.

Being a good friend, Dennis, I love it!

Lol, also on the grass seed comment, Ruth.

Today I am going to be making more mugs for the upcoming craft show.

Got lots of sleep this past weekend and feeling great!
