As a cat human, I can see and "hear" your kitties as you try to herd them, Nell. LOL

Just laundry and loose ends for me today. Maybe get some reading.

Oh, catching cats. We have to trick ours or they hide too.

Did you ever notice that you will look at something briefly and then the website will show up here or on Facebook? That is eerie to me. I was looking at clothes and they next day there were clothes ads on Sparkpeople. Big brother is watching everything.

I feel better today, so planning a visit to a couple of stores.

I have to get all 3 of my cats to the vet. Hopefully my son will be here in half an hour to help me catch them. The first cat is easy, the second two hide.

Sorry I am so late checking in. I left the house at 6:40 this morning to ski. When I got to the meeting place I called my ski buddy, and he was still in bed. Said he felt dizzy this morning. On the slopes I found four member of my ski club, so I skied with them. Those guys are so fast , I felt the need to keep up with them. Enough for my lazy turns and tight skiing.

By the time I got home I was exhausted and slept for two hours. It' s 7:30 and I am contemplating what to eat for dinner. Luckily I have a beef stew and a zero point soup in the "fridge."

Yesterday was my free day and I had time to calculate my deductibles for my taxes and work on repoting four amaryllis, among other un-noteworthy fritter-away-the-day chores.
I walked the mall with my friend, and met another old time friend, a musician, that I used to walk with years ago. Fun afternoon.

Many years ago I gave a speech about the prevalence and scariness of cameras recording my every move. But what is even more frightening to me is that Google tracks my movement on foot and in the car. I suppose it will be good evidence if I am ever implicated in a crime. I think technology has the ability to keep us in line, but it also has the ability to change our instincts. Good or bad?

I like the cameras. Feel safer in the long run.

Busy with errands and more prepping for the freezer. Weather is mild so that helps.

I have mixed feelings too. There are more crooks in the world, but some of us like our privacy.

We are having rain today, must have blown over from Tucson!

I cleared out shoes yesterday and put them in my new shoes racks that dh put together. Evidently I pulled something because I hurt in my side. Sigh, always something.

Rained continuously over the past 36 hours resulting in a little over and inch of rain in Tucson. Finally stopped in time for our golf game this morning.............. but starting out in the 40's with gusts up to 40 mph. Should be interesting.

Linda (Texas) - Tucson is at 32.3 Latitude. Detroit, MI was at 42.3 Latitude. Those 10 degrees makes a BIG difference in climate. Miami is at 25 degrees................ but the lowest in the US is Hawaii at 23 degrees latitude.

This time in history will be the "time of the see all camera(s)". If there is something important or interesting to see, you can look it up and see a video of it. Great time to catch crooks and people doing bad things. Or, good people doing amazing things! I have mixed emotions about this............. George Orwell was so smart!

Good Morning to all.

I have never given much thought to DST, but it is true that the father north one lives (above the equator) the more sun you will get in the summer months and less in the winter. So persons living in the south do not see the benefit of it because of the proximity to the equator and the angle of the earth as it revolves around the sun. Living on the 40th parallel I like DST now, but hate having the sun awaken me a 5 am around the time of the summer equinox. That said, having lived three months in Quito Ecuador (just a 40 minute trip from the true equator) it was quite nice to have 12 hours of day and night each day. But the effect there is that the sun "turns on" and "goes off" light a light bulb, with little varying degrees of dawn or dusk. Plink! I think we humans do the best we can to organize our world to our advantage. Oh, to be an animal without a watch!

I have nothing on my schedule today except a late day walk with friends. What nonsense or chores will I do to fill in those empty hours?

Sue: Does your freezer run on grains? mine runs on electricity, but some times I think it "eats" the frozen pizzas. emoticon

Dennis-power golf? Do the golf clubs have motors? (hee-hee)

Ruth-good luck with your PT appointment.

Val-lovely poster.

Linday-I'm with you regarding DST. Would rather never be on it. But, if had to choose between current method of change and permanent DST, I'd take the DST.

Grocery shopping today to beat the storm, then making turkey loaf for the freezer. Tomorrow, I make the grain combo for the freezer.

Dennis your retirement has lots of visitors! That is great!

Ruth, when you find that diet, let me know. Go to No S website, it is a real diet and there are lots of funny things on it.

I overslept too, Nell. Hate daylight savings time. I had rather never go on DST instead of staying on DST.

Edwards, thank you!

Have a great day one and all.

Son flew back to NC yesterday afternoon, we now have the house to ourselves............ for about a week. Next Tues my golf buddy from Delaware will be with us for a week of power golf. He actually arrives this Friday with his girlfriend but they will be staying at a resort until she departs on the following Tuesday, that is when he buddies up with me. I am happy that this rainy period that starts today will be over by Thursday and warm 70's and 80's temps will move in.

I did not realize I was MIA for two days.

My weekend was uneventful. I saw for the second time "The Hurt You Give," a well done movie that targets our misconceptions about racial profiling.

I made those brownies on Saturday, kept four out for me, then took the others to fellowship for coffee hour. Thus I get in my baking, my chocolate fix, and I allow others who can afford the calories, to share in my joy of baking.

I lunched with the ladies yesterday and ate an entire Philly cheese steak. Then I did crossword puzzles, read the entire newspaper, scanning only the headlines in the sports section, and did not eat again. Today I was down 2.2 lbs. I need to find the perfect brownie, cheese steak diet!

Today it's off to an initial PT consultation for my torn ligament.

We forbid bird feeders at the condo association, most condos around here do. Dropped seeds attract rats, which are hard to eliminate. We've been through that once, now we have really cracked down.

Hey Sue, where to put a bird feeder, due to the mess, is quite important. However, hummingbirds do not make much of a mess. My other feeders are on shepherd's hooks out behind the rear fence.

Dennis-Glad your cookout went well. I've envious of your bird feeders. Because of the mess, tenants in the apartment building aren't allowed to hang feeders from their windows.

Linda--Glad your visit went well. Take the good days when you can get them.

Ruth--Only you! The rest of us can't wait for the snow to melt and you want it to stay! LOL I can relate to wanting to make cookies after a less-than stellar game, but, you're stronger than that. Maybe some plain yogurt with fruit or peanut butter.

It's daylight savings time this weekend! Ugh, I hate daylight savings time! I like my light in the morning.

Have a good weekend!

It took us until we were in our 60's to finally purchase a home where the master bath vanities were the correct height. The typical 30" counter height is way too low. Kitchen counter height (36") is a little too high. We find that 34" is perfect. DW has her vanity, I have mine and between our (higher) vanities is a lower, desk high counter to sit at. We installed slide out bottom shelves at our sink cabinet that gives us more access to items in those cabinets.

The cook out on Thursday was great..... we celebrated a little too long, but it was nice.

Our bird feeders are very active. DW bought a window mounted humming bird feeder. It is quite small and hangs from a hook mounted to a suction cup. The birds are only a couple of feet away from where I sit in the den at my work station. The birds do not seem concerned, I guess they know glass is safe. In Michigan a humming bird sighting was rather rare, here we see many each day.

Good luck with that enterprise, Ruth. I prefer a vanity, but do not have one. I have to stand in front of the mirror.

The trip yesterday was fine. My FIL was doing well! Must be hard to be blind and practically deaf. He has hearing aids but we all gave up on them and just talk loudly next to his ear. He can see outlines of people but that is all. He also has vascular dementia and get confused, but yesterday he was clear as a bell.

Ruth, the hard part is finding a carpenter who will custom build without charging a fortune. I still have the original built in bathroom vanities in my house. The counters are low by today's standards, but I don't want to have to find someone to raise them.

I had a lousy day bowling. Everything was off, my stance, my throw, my follow through. I sucked!

More than anything I feel like baking something chocolate right now. I may have to take a cold shower to get that thought out of my head.

At noon I went to Lowes to have the kitchen tech design a vanity for me. Sinc such things do not exist in the civil
ized world in any degree of abundance , the only option I have is to have one designed. Now I will have to get an electrician and a carpenter because there is no such thing as an integrated product. Oh well, another project.

This Sunday we are expecting 57 degree F weather, enough to melt all this beautiful snow away. Sniff I wil be surprised if ski season lasts beyond next Wednesday. But one never knows, it has snowed here in April on many occasions.

Have a nice weekend. Do something fun and unexpected!.

Happy International Women's Day!!!

International Women's Day has been held on 8 March every year since 1913, and has been recognised by the United Nations since 1975.

#BalanceforBetter is the theme for this year's International Women's Day. The 2019 initiative is aimed at gender equality, a greater awareness of discrimination and a celebration of women's achievements, according to the International Women's Day website.

Dennis-Enjoy your time with your son and the family get-together. It sounds great.

Ruth-Good luck on the new washer. You're doing your homework so you'll find one. And good catch on my poorly constructed sentence yesterday. Luckily, today's Proofreading Day. Just to be clear: The lady who cuts my hair comes to my apartment. This means I don't have to stand in the rain and snow waiting for a bus to go to a hair salon. No cutting outdoors needed.

Linda-Family issues are so difficult and delicate. Keeping good thoughts for you.

Nell-Perfect ending of a week. Hood/chair issues resolved. Enjoy your weekend. You've earned it!

I think I'll be taking today easy since I'm probably grand-sitting tomorrow. It's been a long week and yesterday was full of hiccups.

Dh came home a day early. He was having to spend every night with his alcoholic brother and the last night... well the brother pushed him too far and he laid into him, telling him the truth of his situation and more. Brother needed to hear it.

Since he came home early, we are going to see his dad today, because he did not get to see him. It is an hour and a half drive.

A Sears exec founded a hedge fund to purchase the Kenmore line of appliances, giving Sears a much needed one time infusion of cash. It's still Kenmore, but they can now be sold in places other than Sears.

The range hood is finally installed! The installer I made the appointment with 3 weeks ago never answered my calls or texts, I was lucky to find someone else who could come out the same day. The new recliner came yesterday, DS and I got the old chair up the steps and out to the garage, but it wouldn't fit in my car. One leg was about 1/4 inch too long to slide it in. I called the trash company, they'll pick it up with the regular trash today for $40. Then this week will be done! I'm looking forward to a normal day.

I decided on Monday that I was in the market for a new washer. The Maytag I bought three years ago is the noisiest thing I have ever owned, so getting it fixed mean I would only have to put up with that noise longer. The company never answers its phone and to have an outside company in for repairs means that I would not only be paying for the service call but also for parts on a machine I detest. I was looking on line today and think I have found a hedge fund owned Kenmore that might do all I need a washing machine to do. Luckily I have a washing machine in the apartment so I can use that until I get that %$#*&% Maytag out of the house.

After WW a friend and I walked the mall today. I have not been by the park since it snowed on Sunday but as far as I can tell,no one has shoveled the more than 5 miles of walking trails there. I will have to wait for warmer weather for wakling outdoors.

Dennis: Enjoy the BBQ with your son and family.
Nell: Hope everything went well with the hood installation.
NanaSue: I've never hear of an out door hairstylist (not even in tropical Latin America). emoticon

North Carolina son is here during his spring break from teaching. He is also attending a Tucson friend's wedding on Saturday and catching up with other friends during his long weekend stay with us. We are hosting a steak cook out tonight on the patio and have invited SIL/BIL to join us and our son. The forecast is for 72 F and partly cloudy skies at dinner time. Ruth, hope you get to ski soon!

Man, what a day, Nell! You'd think that professionals could avoid fiascos like that. That's something a DIY'er would do. Goodwill just might take the chair if they have training programs. And you're wise to use an accountant where you have responsibilities for others.

Getting a haircut today. She comes to my place, so no standing in the snow and cold. Also, hoping to get laundry done.

I called the store I bought the hood from and told them I couldn't get hold of the installer that had an appointment for installation today. They couldn't get hold of him either. I called someone else who said they'd be here between 12 and 2, quick turnaround because it should be an easy install. The vent duct guys did the hard work yesterday. Let's hope they show up.

There are still Sears stores around, just far fewer of them. They have a big online store, also. Kenmore appliances are owned by a hedge fund now, you can buy Kenmore vacuum cleaners and microwaves on Amazon. I think they are having a tough time competing with Home Depot, Lowe's and Best Buy. How far a mighty brand has fallen!

Never thought of that! Thanks, Nell! Hope to find something less expensive that Cricut at $14.99 a roll. I hope your vent hood gets installed soon.

We need a new faucet in kitchen. Hopefully that will get done this weekend. Dh said that Sears was offering a deal on appliances and knows I want a new stove and dishwasher... he was looking a microwaves too. I guess Sears is not going away, after all.

Dh is still with parents.

The vent for the new hood is installed. That job took longer than we thought, the installer cut cabinet lighting wire. He fussed with it for awhile, then went to Home Depot and bought a connector. I now have a giant steel tube illuminated through the glass front doors. I'll have to wrap it in fabric or something, it's too big to build another box.

Today the vent hood is supposed to be installed. I haven't heard from the installer in two weeks, he didn't return my text yesterday. And today Ron's new recliner comes. They don't remove old furniture, so Dave and I will have to wrestle it to the garage and into my Outback. I'll see if Goodwill wants it, otherwise it goes to the dump. It's a nice leather chair with one tear on one arm. Someone craftier than me should be able to fix it.

MRI accomplished. Next waiting to see what the physical therapist has to say.

Nell, I think your Dad was a wise man. However, since I leave my investments to managers, they cover all bases; but I always itemize so my tax return is usually "vacation" worthy.

Last night I went to see "Bohemian Rhapsody." I was ooc during Queen's rise, so I didn't even know who Freddy Mercury or Queen was, but once the movie got rolling I realized that I knew many of the hits they recorded. I think nailing a character who actually lived is so much harder to do dramatically than portraying a fictional character. Is it any wonder that Jamie Foxx could win an Oscar for "Ray" or Gary Oldham for Churchill in "Darkest Hour."? Is it any wonder that Melissa McCarthy was nominated for her role in "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" and Christian Bale was nominated for his role in "Vice." They all did exceptional jobs and were Oscar worthy performances, but when there are so many biopics in one year the competition is fierce.

No skiing today. How the week drags on when that thrill is removed.

I use an accountant. I have a rental property, I lose track of the various required depreciations trying to do it myself. I have him do Mom's, even though hers is simple, just because it makes me more comfortable as manager of her affairs. I want my brother and sister to be completely comfortable with my management. Dad's trust is a pain, I have to generate a K-1 from the trust to Mom, I fear making an error. The IRS doesn't accept ignorance as an excuse.

My father always told me that you have managed your taxes perfectly if you owe less than a hundred dollars at tax time. He hated the idea of lending money to Uncle Sam tax free, which is what you are doing if you get a refund.

Ruth, I do my own taxes online. The biggest effect this year seems to be the issue that refunds are less, even owe, due to withholdings being less to give a greater take-home.

Good luck to both Nell and Linda with your projects.

Dennis, I'm ignoring your good weather. (I'm jealous. LOL)

Linda, try an office supply store like Staples. They should have clear contact paper of varying thicknesses.

Ruth, we usually use an accountant, but dh thinks he can do it this year himself. Seems simpler now.

I was feeling good yesterday so did my errands for crafting supplies. I learned from a crafting forum about Dollar Tree. Of course, I could find nothing they recommended there. I went to 2 Dollar Trees and 2 Walmarts. Found stuff, very little, at all places. I was looking mainly for clear contact paper, used in vinyl crafting. No one has it. I also went to Ulta for my makeup, which was my most expensive purchase.

Pest control came before I left yesterday. We only need them twice a year.

$385 later and my generator is working again. The vent installers are here, and of course it's a bigger deal than any of us thought.

The vent installers will be here this morning to replace the vent from my range hood to the roof. It won't get out of the 20s today, I hope the cold won't damage my shingles. Of course I won't have a range hood tonight, which is fine, it's Ash Wednesday, a fast day, so I wouldn't be cooking anyway. The the generator repairman will be here to figure out what's wrong with my generator, another job to be done in this cold weather.

Good Afternoon Sparkers.

I would have been on here earlier but I got caught up shopping on line for a desk or vanity (yes, still looking). I found one piece I liked but the wood was unknown (made in Viet Nam) and I am not crazy about buying things of unknown quality and also having to pay an extra $300 to assemble the piece. I guess I'll go back out to see what I can find in furniture stores, where I can see what I will be getting. Is anyone as annoyed as I am about buying things on the Internet?

Anemic_Oak: Try some chair exercise. You can find plenty on the Internet, YouTube.

This week I have to x out time to get all my tax papers together. I have NO idea how this new Trump tax "refund" will work. Probably won't for me. Have you filed your tax return yet? Did you do the tax return yourself( with software?) or did you get professional help?

Amy, I also had broken my ankle when I was 62 and needed surgery. I wasn't allowed to walk on it so I had one of those scooters you rest your knee on the pad. I put up with it for 10 weeks, but, 20/20 hindsight, I should have kept it longer. Don't rush the healing process. For me, the ankle has never been the same and I tend to swell up easily around that ankle.

Going grocery shopping but at least it's close enough not to need the bus.

I need to do errands but waiting on pest control. Not sure when they will be here. They could just do the outside, but I like the inside done too. It is a system that goes throughout the walls in our home. We do not have a pest problem, a few spiders occasionally and sugar ants occasionally.
