All of it. I'm 70 years old and I still do Christmas the way my parents did when I was little, right down to the decorations on the tree and the dinner menu.

Sorry - work, life, scary follow-up mammograms after my surgery....

Enough. 'Tis the season. I know we haven't made it past Thanksgiving yet, but seems all the stores, TV commercials, movie channels and radio stations are way ahead of us. So...

What are some of your fondest memories of Christmas past? If you're a Christmas geek like me, what are your favorite things about Christmas?

Exercise - yup that wagon sometimes throws me off due to a flare up of arthritis. However, then I realize my life is better and I can move easier if I get up off my chair - so I get up

I may have an occasional meal or snack thats off track, but pretty much try to stay in line.
I joined SP back in 2012 and have missed very few days. As Dennis said, its kinda like my AA.

If wagons were built with fat boy tires and crib-like raillings on the side, and driven by constant positive motivation we would never fall off. We either have to redesign ourselves or redesign the wagons. Me fall off? You should see the sacrs and bruises!

I'm kind of like Polly. I used to exercise every day when I wasn't working. Now that I am, that area is my challenge. I get back on track cos I look in the mirror and don't like what I see. Right now I aim for doing at least 10 minutes of exercise a day - right after I come home from work.

But like she said, starting over is better than quitting.

I don't know why I have trouble keeping all the healthy habits I am aiming for going at one time. Some weeks I do better with my healthy eating diet and fall off the exercise wagon or the other way around . Right now I have not exercised this month , but I am doing great in other area's . I know what I need to do that will work for me and that is set a new start date like ahead a few days . I feel starting over is better than quitting.

I have ben on Spark since 2005. I lost 38 lbs then put some back on over the years. I have not missed many days visiting the site in those 14 years. It is kind of like AA, one day at a time. If not for Spark, I am sure I would be back to my old weight. Being aware is most of the battle for me.

Yep, unfortunately, fall-off is my middle name. I'm doing better now that I'm retired and don't have the temptations (or stress) at work. Doing the 5% Challenge (go Teddy Bears!) helps get me back on track quickly as we weigh in on Saturdays.

Sorry, folks. Fell and hurt my back. Doesn't keep me from using the computer, of course, but have been running around to the doctor and physical therapy, along with work and a few other personal things.

Belated question of the week 11/13/2019 - Have you ever fallen off the wagon, so to speak, where you quit exercising, quit eating healthy, quit Sparking? If so, how long did it last and what brought you back? DH has been seeing a nutritionist and has done really well at modifying his eating habits, losing 20 lbs in one month. I'm planning menus, shopping, cooking and eating meals with his program in mind. I want to support him and not be a stumbling block, but then I go to work and eat candy all day and fattening lunches. Really struggling to get back on track.

We have no gathering but I make a big meal and just take one serving of everything on my 8 inch plate. Hubby does his on a 9 inch plate so we don't get a lot of food but think we do. I just buy two slices of pumpkin pie so we don't over do it. In the past I baked one pie and we ate it in one day. I have a lot of left overs of chicken, we don't do turkey, masked potatoes, stuffing and Mac and cheese. I use them in meals for the rest of the week. Our caretaker T joins us on that day so more of the food is eatten in one meal on Thanksgiving day. Christmas is is just me and hubby and we have a repeat of the meal. We do not stuff our selves. Hubby tries to on the stuffing his.favorite food but I am the one making his serving so I make the first one small so his seconds are like the other half of a normal serving of stuffing.

I remember that saying about gluttony. I mean who wants to be called a glutton???

One of our sons-in-law eats gluten-free - very sensitive or he'll get sick - so lots of healthy foods there. Another of our children and her family are vegans, so more healthy stuff.

I keep the picture of where I want to be right in front of my brain to help with self control.

I stay away from chips and fattening foods. I will have a piece of pie for dessert. We either go down to Calif. for Thanksgiving or have a sensible meal at home. If we go out to eat I bring home half of the meal for the next day.

I will bring the vegetables to the cave! But it must be warm!

Actually, there is not so much celebrating to dodge in our community in Tucson. The kids only come for New Year's Eve. For some reason my wife and I would have the party of all parties every New Year's Eve…….. It became very popular with our kids. They would invite their friends and cousins and at times it was a giant sleep over for anyone who could find a couch or a sleeping bag to crawl into. We slept over a dozen in beds, but sometimes there were 20 or so for breakfast the next morning. So, they do not come for Thanksgiving or Christmas, New Years Eve is their target. Yes, I over indulge that night. But not all the others. It works out fine over the long haul.

Refuse to go to social gatherings. Take a pacifier and suck on it. Go crawl up in a cave until Jan 1. Travel to a country where Thanksgiving and Christmas are not celebrated. Live on a deserted isle. Eat holly berrries and mistletoe instead.

Yes, sorry. 11/4 question of the week:

The holidays are upon us. It's still a ways from Thanksgiving and even longer before Christmas, but all the holiday food is popping out - at work, as samples, at parties. What are your personal tips and strategies for healthy eating during this time?

10/25/2019 - question of the week:

Do you track your food using SP or another app? If not SP, what other app? I've been mentally tracking, so to speak. DH is working with a nutritionist and she's directed him to an Under Armour app. I'm going to look into it. Tracked my breakfast and lunch on SP today using my laptop. I'm usually checking in to SP on my phone, except on the weekends. How is the SP food tracker app via cell phone?

I try to mix it up and also listen to my body to see what I'm craving. Helps me stay more satisfied. Today I had cottage cheese with fresh salsa, whole wheat low calorie toast with diet margarine and organic simply fruit type spread on one slice, plus unsweetened applesauce. Other mornings I eat instant Quaker Oats Fiber & Protein oatmeal with some type of fruit. I love eggs for breakfast, but DH can't stand the smell of eggs, so I normally don't have an egg option. When he's working I sometimes have soft scrambled eggs with cheese and toast with 1% milk.

My standard is oatmeal with fruit. I'll have toast on days when I have to get out quickly. And coffee!!

I eat a drawn out breakfast. I start with coffee and a carb - English muffin or a half sweet muffin, like banana nut or cinnamon. A hour later I move to the fruit drawer/basket. A banana for sure, maybe grapes, apple or orange or maybe a small slice of cantaloupe or honeydew over the next hour. You could call this an early snack I guess.

On weekends I wait from DW to awake and then I will cook eggs, a protein, toast and maybe left over potatoes (usually fried).
