This is officially just the Run Babel Run thread! lol

I completed my running program 4 weeks ago. I ran 1 hour straight.

Since then, I started a new program. I got my 1st race on October 28, 2nd around Christmas time and 3rd called the last race of the year...guess when, lol.

I really fell in love with running and although I'm not fast...I have loads of endurance.

Are there any more runners around?

I wish they were hyperactive, I'd probably get further. One is 18 months and would run in the road if I let her out of the stroller and the other has to stop and look at every rock and bug that is in our path. It takes us like 4 hours to walk around the block. I know I should be encouraging this curiousity in nature but there's no time for it when I'm trying to set a pace.

Maybe I'll start trying your program on nights that I'm not taking classes. Thanks for the info!

Well, the first running program I went on was this one:

http://tinyurl.com/34ldgd

It comes along with an article and I REALLY REALLY recommend reading the article.

Through that website, I found a trainer and I think I can follow his program if I can get to running 60 minutes straight (which should take me 4-6 more weeks).

But I loved the 1st running program, I couldn't even run a minute at first and I can't believe how far I came!

Oh, and it only takes 20 minutes but you should always warm up and cool down with a walk. (I warm up with a brisk ten minute walk before and after).
It is very do-able especially when the kids get back to school.

Oops, one more thing, can I suggest (you probably already do this though) that you start walking beforehand. I'm sure you can drag the kids along on the walk. Unless they're crazy hyperactive and climb trees and stuff.

What's the program? I am bummed about this running thing but unless I can strap the wagon to myself and drag these kids it's too hard for me to get out and do it. I'm still elliptical-ing it, though I don't think that counts and I've been doing it since March and am bored to tears with it. I am going to do a new class tonight -either kickboxing or spinning. Good luck with your training, Babel!

This was my big idea and I haven't run once. It's really hard because I have these 2 kids and they have little tiny legs and can't run with me, then when my husband gets home I go to the Y. I will get it in gear once this heat wave passes.

I've been on the treadmill and the elliptical...kind of getting boring for me. I'm out here in the Middle East so running out there in the desert...bad idea! I just ordered a kick boxing tape...its new? Can I join the challenge but do that? Can I huh?

I have really bad knees after competing in gymnastics from middle school, high school, and then NCAA competition. That is why I bought an elliptical. But that does not mean I cannot take part in the challenge in my own way! My trusty elliptical does have a distance calculator so there you go! I will be running my 5K but in a way that will not make me cry!! Best of both worlds!!

Has anyone else considered this?

After I finally complete my final week, I'm gonna get started on a plan to run a 10k.

Hmm.. I don't have any running experience but with the ultra-grotty winter weather I've become a bit slack with the walking over the past month, so it'll be good inspiration to get out there again.
Also my treadmill is being fixed next week so at least I can walk indoors if absolutely necessary.

I like the looks of the couch to 5K stuff though - it looks like it's a good way to ease into running. I think I could handle the alternating between walking and 60 seconds of running etc. Might need to get some better sneakers!

Well, you donít have to run, walking can be just as a calorie burning activity as running.
This month, weíre going to challenge you to start a walking/running program.
Running is my favorite activity because it only takes some good sneakers.
Of course, before I started running I started walking. Itís such a great activity: aside from burning those calories, you clear your mind and get to see some cool things.
Anyone can learn to run, all it takes is some commitment and a good running program.
Here are my suggestions:
the Couch to 5 kilometers running program http://tinyurl.com/4gtmz (stroll all the way to the bottom)
Sparkpeopleís own running program http://tinyurl.com/2g4xft
Runnerís World running program http://tinyurl.com/34ldgd

But before you start, donít be a fool and check this really helpful article out:
http://tinyurl.com/34qty7

Remember, itís not suppose to hurt or feel like youíre coughing up a lung.
