I scored 8 1/2 of the 12 habits of healthy people.

1. Eat Breakfast -- Yes.

2. Plan Meals -- I've been more of a fly by the seat of my pants eater depending on what's on hand.

3. Drink More Water -- Yes. I keep several water bottles filled in the fridge but have a hard time enjoying plain water so I use some artificial sweetener or a Crystal Light type flavoring. Pineapple is my favorite.

4. Take Exercise Breaks -- Yes, even if it is sweeping off the driveway or walking around the yard.

5. Go Offline -- Yes. I've been taking more time away from the computer, especially Facebook, and going outside, reading, or cleaning house.

6. Learn Something New -- Yes. I read a lot and pay attention to the stories' plotting, word usage, and character descriptions to help with my own writing. When the budget allows, I want to take a beginning drawing class to see if there are techniques I can use to draw simple things such as a cat or dog, or a person's face. I've thought, too, of taking back up clarinet lessons. never got past the squeaky notes stage but enjoyed previous lessons.

7. Don't smoke -- Never have.

8. Sleep Well -- A troublesome area for me. Even taking a prescribed sleep pill, my sleep apnea and back cramps wake me throughout the night. I use a bi-pap machine for the apnea but mostly the cramps are the problem.

9. Strength Train -- Could have given this a half yes since I do use hand weights at home but really need to rejoin my neighborhood weight room. It's only about $55.00 a year, close to home, and I have free time during the day to avoid the crowd. So, why am I waiting?

10. Head Outdoors -- Yes.

11. Keep Your Balance -- Half yes. I am mindful of not falling and have a Tai Chi exercise tape but my VHS player broke so need to check thrift shops for a new one. Haven't tried Yoga but SparkPeople has videos on it.

12. Be Mindful -- Meditate or be thoughtful when doing things even washing dishes, etc.

That's my list. What is yours?

Lou

You're probably already aware of the advice in this article, but a reminder is never a bad idea (IMHO!) and depending what sort of goals you have in mind for this new year, the timing may be good, too:
