I feel like kicking myself, because if I'd been diligent, I would've made my 80 miles for August goal yesterday, LOL!!! I ran this AM, though, so my Sept. mileage is starting to pick up once more.

To the question whether I am a pessimist or an optimist, I answer that my knowledge is pessimistic, but my willing and hoping are optimistic.

Did my first 16 mile run this weekend. MAN, that was hard! Planning to shoot for 17 or 18 miles this weekend, then I take a stepback week at the beach! Still on track to hit at least one 18 mile run this month!

Caryn - I don't blame you for not feeling it when it comes to the mileage. I've also been struggling w/that recently. Having a broken Garmin certainly doesn't help! And it's tough keeping to a training schedule during the summer. There's the heat, but also life gets in the way. The good thing is, though, your "big day" isn't until October.

And if the runs get to be too much in the heat, thank goodness for cross-training. When I had knee issues while training for marathon #2 (and it was hot as hell), I rode a bike. One of my running friends swam and aqua-jogged to prep for Boston when she was dealing w/her foot problems.

Am I slack if I don't have a mileage goal for this month? I've listed goals for the last two months, and all it takes is one missed run to miss the mileage goal for the whole month (and don't get me started on the HEAT).
I'm shooting for 2 weekday runs between 5-8 miles, depending on what weather and circumstances allow. I'm hoping to hit a LSD of 18 miles before the end of the month. That's about all the goal I'm going to set.

ETA: Cecilann, just noticed you're doing the KC Marathon - I did its half marathon last year. Loved it!!! The free beer Boulevard Brewery gave to participants tasted soooo good when I crossed the finish line.

I am on Week 6 of a training program for the Kansas City Marathon Oct. 15. Looks like for August, I should put in just over 100 miles myself! I've never added up the miles in that way before - that's pretty cool!
