More than likely I will be joining you for 1500 miles in 2010. It took me all year to get to 1500 in 2009, whereas I crossed that line in November, 2008. An injury early last year, which I think was due to increasing mileage too quickly after a marathon, slowed me down.

After my marathon in February, I want to take a full week off from running. I plan to cross train (more than likely on the rowing machine) and gear up on strength training. Then I plan to build up to about 30 miles a week and keep that base until another marathon.

Training for the upcoming marathon is going well so far.

You guys were awesome in 2009!

Keep on running!

I also have trouble keeping up with miles, so I always try to stick to very easy math... 5 milers M-F and 10 on Saturday. Makes it easier :)

I just hit 1600 with my 10 yesterday. I'm guessing I'll have about 1670 at the end of the year. It's an odd number, but I guess it's better than taking the last month off!

I have used that one, and I also try and log my miles on sparks...what happens is one day I realize that I have not posted mileage in over a week, so I give it up.

I have a agenda book and I keep track there. Then once a month I make use all is balance and correct by transferring the numbers to a spreadsheet type page. While I was counting down to 1500 miles things were going very well. Once I passed that mileage I got slack. :-)

SO i think if it's right I am up to 1964. still a few miles to run.

I have a long run scheduled but gave it up after 5 miles.

Gail, have you thought about using the Runner's World web site log to track your miles? You simply enter each run and it tracks mileage, type of run, how much mileage you've put on your shoes, etc.

it's not cold and wet here. :-) Okay it's a tab bit on the cold side. right now...14F. today it was much warmer, but I expect Michael you would still have felt it was cold.

I gave up adding my mileage because I am so in a hurry to finish these 2009 miles that I keep adding it wrong. The time before last I checked I had 50 miles to go. the last time I checked my miles I found a 10 mile mistake...sigh...I had 60 miles to run.

I will wait and figure this all out another time.

I ran 9 miles today on the treadmill (thanks goodness for my iPod!) which brings my total to 1455. That's 45 to go. I plan to run 24 more this week, which leaves me with 21. So sometime during Christmas week, I'll break the tape, barring injury.

75 left for you Gail... I have a calculator handy :)

I did ten treadmill miles yesterday. I've picked out a marathon training plan and will start right after Christmas. I'm at 1565 now, no chance of hitting 2009... so I'll just keep running as usual.

Michael, you're almost there! I hit 1500 on Dec. 30 last year. It's kind of exciting to have to take it to the end.

pounded out 16 miles this morning. 91 - 16 = man I am to tired to figure out the math. hehehe

it was a tough 16 miles.

I ran 8 miles yesterday on the treadmill. the treadmill leaves me tired out. Plus my shoe are totally worn out, and have been for a while. Next Saturday I will be coming home with one (if not two) new pairs of running shoes. This morning I also have to be on the look out for ice for the first 3/4 of my run. the very first 2 miles were very slippery.

but the run is done. I am happy about that.

Gail, I think between now and the end of the year you should be able to knock out 91 miles. That's 30 miles per week, roughly, between now and 12/31. You've been putting in 16-20 mile long runs lately, right? Piece of cake! :-)

I've got a "light" week coming up, then a 20 mile run the day after Christmas, so I should be there shortly after Santa visits.

wow, you really are almost there Michael.

I had an error in my numbers. I actually had more miles to run then I thought... big problem I still have 91 miles to go. With Christmas and how busy things are it's gonna be tough...

Well now that I do the math I see that's only 156 miles for the month and I have been running more than 160 miles in most months...OKAY, I can do this.

Loren: Thank you! I was out of the blog activities for most of the year due to various circumstances, but I feel just the same towards a healthy lifestyle.

Michael: Good luck with your marathon in february, I always wanted to do that one. When you'll plan for your mix of cardio for next year, I'm sure you'll take into consideration that running offers the best health benefits. The pounding actually makes you stronger, if you follow a safe plan. I'm the funny egg preaching to the hen! :)

Gail: Good luck with your Boston objective! This is awesome! Tune up your metronome and improvement will flow back to you.

I think my ojectives for 2010 go towars seeking an excellent life balance. I did show to myself that I can commit to great goals and fight for them. Now the time has come to seek balance and harmony, finding and following all the true priorities in my life. Easier said than done, but I want to avoid any denial whatsoever. I want to run ultras and marathons, while keeping all the other balls in the air as well.
I anticipate a happy 2010!

This is a great group!

I've not thought much about my running goals for 2010. I'm signed up to do the Myrtle Beach Marathon in February, and I'm thinking I might want to take a week or so off from running after that. Keep up the cardio, but cease the foot pounding for a while. Then maybe rebuild a running base balanced with quality cross-training (rowing machine, elliptical trainer) and strength training. But I've not gotten any more specific than that at this point.

Gail, you're having such a great 2009 - I'm sure your 2010 will be just as great!

Hi everybody! I'm glad you're all positive and you seem to do great! Loren asked me abut my goal, so I thought I'd share with everybody my answer for her:

I'm tracking to get closer to 1400, but not more than that. Injuries early in the year turned me to other cardio methods (bike, swim, elliptical etc), so I'm very happy with my training volume overall. Plus, I've done a couple of ultras (a 50k and a 35 miler), and a 50 mile bike ride, so I think I had many ways to push my boundaries. Excuses, dissapointed now, I'll do better next year, I think 1500 miles is the right goal to have for one year.

I have never watch Law and Order while running on a treadmill. hehehe At the gym I go they seem to always be tuned in to CNN...strange hey, not even Canadian news. :-)

busy afternoon. Off I go for a facial. Oh the stress of it all. lol

At the gym where I work, the treadmills face a bank of flat panel TVs. I often watch entire episodes of "Law and Order" when running an easy 6 :-)

Ten treadmill miles yesterday puts me at 1500 for the year! A month earlier than last year. I'm going to continue the same schedule, so we'll see where I get. Hooray!

I make those cookies.

I also make a pretty good coffee cake...lemon/cinnamon...coffee cake. My husband thinks since it's a coffee cake it should be coffee flavor. I made it today, and everyone is enjoying it.

now that I am m&m cookies/coffee cake carb loaded...I am planning a long run tomorrow. no less then 12 miles, no more than 18.

Thanks Loren!

I usually set tiered goals for a marathon. My first goal for any marathon is always the same: finish. My second goal is to finish and feel good (this did not happen, for example, at Richmond in 2005). My third goal is to break 4 hours. My fourth goal is to run a new PR, which would be better than 3:58:15, which I ran at Myrtle Beach in 2007. My fifth goal would be to hit around 3:45:00 - just to see if I could do it. That's a stretch. And my *ultimate*, goal is to qualify for Boston, which for my age group is 3:35:00! :-)

Hey Gail, do you make or buy those cookies? :-)

Even 'I' can't do a 42.2 cookie marathon! lol so it's gonna have to be a 26.2.

Hummm...might need to scale down to the half marathon.

your USA metric is different than our Canadian metric. 26.2 = 42.2 in Canada. lol

I think I have a greater chance of qualifying for Boston in the USA if I run metric Tee hee.

Michael - that's a great 10k time. wow. sure beats my pace. Congratulations.

year to date : 1798 miles. Aiming for 2009 miles in 2009. I am pretty sure I will make it. Might even pass it.

I am also on a cookie marathon today. I just ate 3 and I am tempted to go eat a couple more. I have just re-installed all the calories I deleted on this morning's 4 mile run.

Go Loren!

I ran a 10K this weekend in 48:43 (chip time). It was warm (70s) but the run felt good! I'm a little under 1300 miles for the year now - will break the tape toward the end of the year as I continue training for Myrtle Beach.

Keep on running everyone!

Checking in again... I passed the 1400 mile mark last week. I've been a little MIA from the boards, but I'm still putting in 25-35 miles per week. I'll probably hit the 1500 mark this month... more than a month ahead of last year. I'm thinking of running a spring marathon, so I'm trying to stay in reasonable shape over the winter.

Great job everyone!

Michael you are moving right along.

I am on week 2 of marathon training. I am not following my program to the letter. I tend to pick a program and do it exactly, but this time training will be through out the winter. November is a very windy month. I may as well run as I feel, but make sure I run a few pace runs and increase my distance when the weather allows. I am not going to stress if I miss a few miles here and there and I am not going to worry about perfectly executing speed work.

Go PHILLIPS66!

Checking in with 1233.3 miles so far. 266.7 to go! A little over 30 miles a week between now and the end of the year and I'll hit 1500. I'm training for a marathon now, so I expect I'll hit it before the end of the year, barring injury.

Gail - I just read your entry! I'm so sorry that it went so very badly! How's your hand? How's Mark?

You know, you really, truly *are* a runner now. You finished more than one marathon, and now you have a *bad* event behind you. The story will get easier to tell the more times you tell it. Veteran runners will hear it and nod their heads, because they have a story like that too.

You've entered into the ranks of advanced runners. Keep on running!

Michael the half marathon was horrible...really horrible.

Mark had been struggling with groin pain for 2 or 3 weeks before the race. Most runs he could get in a few miles before the pain started. the hope was that with a few days rest before the race he would be able to put in 7 to 9 miles pain free.

Well, no such luck...pain was there with the first stride and we were walking by mile 2. Not a huge problem. there was also a marathon on the go, so we could take forever completing the 1/2

Unfortunately it was a very cool day. I was dressed to run (not walk-stop stretch-run a bit-repeat). I got sweaty during the first 2 miles and then wasn't running enough to generate heat.

With about 7km to go, my hand were frozen and I could barely move my fingers. I was so cold I was shivering while running. I ended up leaving Mark on the course and I ran to the finish.

after I finished (2:40 something like that) a friend and I turned back, found Mark and finished with him. He never wants to do that again...and me neither.

Monday, I begin training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon, which is in February. Barring any injury, I'll hit 1500 this year - just haven't figured out *when* I'll hit it.

Keep on running!

I ran 3 today. 8 yesterday. 13.1 tomorrow.

Mark (dh) has his first 1/2 marathon. I will be running it with him. His training peeked at 9 miles...NOT THE BEST!!!

so if we finish...it's going to be a huge PR!

1500 miles completed. Onward to 2009 mile in 2009.

today's run was a slow 9 miles with my husband who is training for his very first 1/2 marathon...first official race.

today's first 3 miles were tough. after that I warmed up and loved the run. Mark sprinted to the finish and I wasn't able to keep up. I yelled at him and told him he wasn't nice leaving me behind. But really I was pretty proud of him.

headed out in about 30 minutes to run. I have a little less than 3 miles to run to make it to 1500 miles.

My legs are sore from yesterday's race. I ran a relay race, my leg was 10.5 mile and I ran it in 1:30:41...I was very happy with my run, I feel I ran it very well, still I was 49th out of 60 running. My buddy averaged 7:00/mile and he was 20th...I was in with a bunch of solid fast runners.
