Appreciate Good Support…

My friend’s daughter has told me on two occasions that she liked the shirt I was wearing (two different shirts). Each time I asked, “You think?” before saying, “Thanks.”

That was not the best response I could come up with so sure enough she told me she liked another shirt and I said, “Thanks, that helps me know what styles and colors to wear and to look for when shopping in the future.”

When people compliment me on my homeschooling resourcefulness I know to say something like, “Thanks. I hope I was of some help to you. I know you will someday share similar experiences and knowledge with others. It's what we moms do.” (exercise for 100 Days of Weight Loss - Day 10)

Another day in the life of Kohl…

Slept from 1am to 7am. (6 hours)

Weighed in at 215.8.

Snack 1
small banana

Ran a few errands before swinging back to our home to pick up my two youngest to go to a brunch with homeschooling friends. Took the homeschool notifications to the superintendent’s office and picked up fruit and snacks for my theatre girls and today’s brunch.

Brunch
mozzarella, 1 1/2 ounce
trail bologna, 1/2 ounce
blueberries, 1/4 cup
cheese buffalo chicken, 1/4 cup
lime tortilla chips, 6 chips
water bottle (2 cups with brunch)

Talked with other moms about the trials and joys of our present lives while our twelve and up crowd played Imagine If… and Codenames.

Stopped at another store on the way home to buy grocery items for a picnic at the beach Sunday afternoon. Slowly walked around for twenty minutes and then got down to the business of shopping. Also picked up some school supplies since the girls were with me.

Made a teriyaki stir-fry with kale, brussel sprouts, broccoli, carrots, and snow peas. Made brown rice in the steamer and threw in a large handful of green beans harvested from our garden.

Dinner
teriyaki sauce, 2 tablespoons
kale, 1 cup
brussel sprouts, 3
baby carrots, 3
snow peas, 3
brown rice, 1 cup
green beans, 4

Snack 2
honeydew, 1 cup

Hoping to watch an episode of Father Brown with my husband (and maybe D15) tonight. He has fallen asleep with guitar in hand. Not exactly sure where we left off and it’s been quite some time since we’ve found the time to sit in front of the computer and turned on Netflix. Wondering if we will tonight…

Here’s What I Want…

To my husband:
For the time being since up to this point you haven’t understood my health journey…

If you see me eating something that’s not on my diet plan…Ignore it entirely.
Remember it is not of interest to you.

When I’m making progress, such as losing weight…Never comment on my progress in front of others. Remember it is not of interest to you.

When I’m struggling or gaining weight…Ignore it entirely. Remember it is not of interest to you.

When I’m making progress you can’t see (such as improving my self-esteem)
…Ignore my efforts and my changes. Remember it is not of interest to you.

When I’ve maintained my weight  (even though I may still want to lose more)…Ignore the subject entirely. Remember it is not of interest to you.

I’ve sent a copy in an email to my husband.

It helps me when you keep yourself from acknowledging my progress. Since you so often tell me I spend too much time measuring and counting, I’d rather you not comment on the progress I make because of doing just that.
(exercise from 100 Ways To Lose Weight - Day 9)

Another day in the life of Kohl…

Slept from 1:00am until 8:00am. (7 hours)

Weighed in at 215.0.

Breakfast
flax and fiber bread, 2 slices
butter, 1 teaspoon
apricot preserves, 1 tablespoon
skim milk, 1 cup

Dropped D15 of at the library and she walked to the theatre for practice when it opened for the day. Then drove D20 to counseling. Finalized D15’s homeschool notification there. Also took a slow ten minute walk around the building. Still having knee issues today so did what I could.

Lunch
water, 1 cup (before lunch)
spinach, 1 cup
romaine, 1 cup
cheddar cheese, 2 tablespoon
deli chicken, 3 thin slices
radishes, 1
cranberries, 1 teaspoon
pecans, 1 teaspoon
ranch dressing, 1 tablespoon
baby carrots, 1
cucumber, 2 tablespoons
roma tomato, 1/4 tomato
water, 1 cup (after lunch)

Took a half hour nap to refresh.

Drove D12 to theatre practice where she met up with d15 for the evening.
I waited at the theatre until D22 got off her shift at the box office. While there I talked with a new homeschool mom who pulled her son from the public school after meeting with the superintendent who said the school was not required to provide enrichment for her bored son.

Dinner
pizza sub, 1/4 sandwich
honeydew, 1 cup
cucumbers, 1/2 cup

Went to the grocery store to get freezer treats as it has been in the high 80s for several days and everyone has been asking for them.

Snack
peppermint ice cream, 1/4 cup

It’s Seeking God’s Face Ordinary Time Week 10 Day 5.
After today’s Bible song and reading I made a list of family members and friends who don’t yet have faith and prayed for them as a whole.

Now to work on D12’s homeschool notification. I plan to drop the notifications off at the superintendant’s office in the morning before going to our last homeschool brunch of the summer before school begins. The girls will be able to swim since theatre practice was cancelled today!

Help me, please…

To my husband:
It will help me if…
You take our daughters for those ice cream treats and leave me at home.

You stop putting M&Ms in my mouth and such.

You take a walk with me once a week.

To my daughters:
It will help me if you stop asking me to make sweet treats and settle for pieces of fruit for desserts like watermelon.

To my husband:
I don’t want you to ask me why I feel the need to measure out my foods or to carry my phone with me at all times to measure my step count.

Encourage me by telling me what clothes look good on me rather than discouraging me by informing me of all those that you dislike seeing on me.

When asked my husband said he doesn’t understand why I can’t eyeball what I am eating and have an unplanned treat along the way. He also feels I could just average my steps from the past and know about how much to do. I told him I am not there yet on both accounts and need the accountability. He also said I could take a walk with one of our girls or a friend. (Oh, well!)

My daughters basically said they would like me to switch up the fresh fruit choices more often so maybe I’ll buy a few fruits from time to time that rarely go on sale. I mentioned that dad said I could take a walk with one of them and D20 was the most responsive. (exercise from 100 days of Weight Loss - Day 8)

Another day in the life of Kohl…

Slept from midnight until 5 and then again from 7 until 10. (8 hours)

Weighed in at 214.8.

Breakfast
raspberry cereal bar
skim milk, 1 cup
red plum

Put the entire theatre schedule into my phone’s calendar. Whew!

Lunch
supreme pizza, 1 slice
black grapes, 1 cup
boiled potatoes, 1 cup
diet A&W root beer, 1 cup

Prepped vegetables for a dinner salad since none of our schedules coincided for a hot sit down together style meal.

Dinner
water, 1 cup (before dinner)
spinach, 1 cup
romaine, 1 cup
cheddar cheese, 2 tablespoons
deli chicken, 4 thin slices
radishes, 3
cranberries, 1 teaspoon
pecans, 2 teaspoons
ranch dressing, 1 tablespoon
baby carrots, 3
cucumber, 1/4 cup
sunflower seeds, 1/2 tablespoon
roma tomato
water, 1 cup (after dinner)

Took our two youngest to theatre practice and took a walk downtown with a homeschool mom friend. Alternated sun and shade as it was low 80s at that point of the day. My left calf started hurting on the return trek to the theatre and is now giving me trouble especially on stairs. Maybe it has something to do with marching in place inside yesterday because of the constant rain. Hopefully a good night’s sleep will do the trick…or at least most of it.

Drank a water bottle (2 cups) while exercising.

Snack
spinach, 1/2 cup
romaine, 1/2 cup
cheddar cheese, 1 tablespoon
deli chicken, 2 thin slices
radishes, 2
cranberries, 1 teaspoon
pecans, 1 teaspoon
ranch dressing, 1 tablespoon
baby carrots, 1
cucumber, 2 tablespoons
roma tomato, 1/2 tomato
skim milk, 1 cup

It’s Seeking God’s Face Ordinary Time Week 10 Day 4.
This week’s blessing tells of God’s true loving character. He wants the best for us.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”—Jeremiah 29:11

Tonight we are working on two forms with D20. One that makes the change from an on campus student to a commuter student. The second is an appeal of the $500 housing deposit being automatically lost with the commuter status. Tomorrow morning we will finish that one up when she calls housing and asks what supporting documents could help with the appeal. She sees the counselor tomorrow at noon so we really want to take make the call before that in case she would be able to assist in any way.

I can do it…

I can do it x 10.

I can do this because I am determined!
I can do this because I am committed!
I can do this because I want to be look and feel healthy!

Regularly telling myself I can do this reminds me that what I do can be positively impactful to my long term health! (exercise from 100 days of Weight Loss - Day 7)

Another day in the life of Kohl...

Slept from 11pm until 7am. (8 hours)

Weighed in at 215.4 which is the first time I went up since I started 100 Days of Weight Loss. I’m up 0.2.

Breakfast
Blueberry Cheerios, 3/4 cup
skim milk, 1/2 cup

Diced a 10# bag of potatoes into the crockpot and will mash them for dinner.

Tidied up a bit this morning before our friends came over. My two youngest daughters played a the game of Life with their girlfriend while I talked to her mom about how to tackle the chemistry course that her daughter and D15 will be taking together. The instructor said to do the experiments in groups of 2-4 and for mom’s to step back and allow the students to work together on their own. Our daughters feel comfortable with doing these with each other. We will do them at my house every other Wednesday so D12 can keep working on her subjects while they do their thing. We’ve also come up with a suggested out of class schedule for the girls so no given day is too heavy on time. Trying to keep stress levels to a minimum.

Lunch
water, 1 cup (before lunch)
raspberry Greek yogurt, 5.3 ounces
supreme pizza, 1 slice
red plum
chocolate covered pretzels, 7
water, 1 cup (after lunch)

It’s Seeking God’s Face Ordinary Time Week 10 Day 3. After reading the Bible song and reading I focused on prayer. First I pray for a love and commitment to the communities in which God has placed our family. May we be of help in the homeschooling, theatre, library, and neighborhood circles we are a art of. May we be supportive of those who work at the university my daughter attends. May we find ways to use our God given gifts in our church. May God equip us to show hope and love through serving in the public arena.

Began working on the homeschool notification for D15.

Decided not to mash the crockpot potatoes. Just kept them diced. Pan-fried pork chops Pioneer Women style for dinner.

Dinner
water, 1 cup (before dinner)
breaded walleye, 2 ounces
breaded pork chop, 3 ounces
boiled potatoes, 1-1/2 cups
black grapes, 1/2 cup
water, 1 cup (after dinner)

My dad came home from the hospital today! He seems like himself again! My husband, my four daughters, and I visited with my parents this evening in their home. My youngest brother also stopped by for a visit.

Snack 1
multigrain bread, 2 slice
butter, 1 teaspoon
black grapes, 1/2 cup

Signed up for fall semester of chorus at the university. D22 and D15 signed up, too.

It’s been pouring rain all day so no laps around the block today but I did take my minimum 6000 daily steps which included marching in place for 20 minutes.

Snack 2
Oreos, 3 cookies
skim milk, 1 cup

Protect My Program…

I will say, "Not just yet," when my family orders fast food at the drive-thru window as a snack…French Fries, Frosties, or soft-serve ice cream cones. If I decide I want one later we can stop a second time just for me but who wants to eat alone? Not me, it’s so easy!

When I’m at brunch after church I will protect my program by having a salad, boiled egg, fresh fruit, or yogurt instead of a doughnut.
When we are grilling outside I will stop at one toasted marshmallow and a forth of a bar of milk chocolate. That’s my candy limit for the week and that’s how I can protect my program.
When we have a homeschooling brunch I bring along fruit for all and stick to that if the options others bring are less than healthy.

When I was shopping today I opted not to buy salty chips for my family to protect my program. Instead I bought black grapes, cheese and whole wheat crackers, and cream cheese and celery for snacks. (exercise from 100 Days of Weight Loss - Day 6)

Another day in the life of Kohl…

Slept from 1am through 7am (6 hours)

Weighed in at 215.2.

Breakfast
Blueberry Cheerios, 3/4 cup
skim milk, 1/2 cup

D20 and I visited my dad in the hospital. He went to ER late last night with several disconcerting symptoms. It turns out the meds he is taking to keep his stent open is wreaking havoc but that he cannot stop the meds. The hospital stay is for evaluating what can be done differently and to work on regulating the chosen path before he returns home. He may go home tomorrow if all goes well but we may not know until then if that will happen or not. Anyway we had great discussion with him on the trials we face and how they point us to Jesus and help us to understand others and help them in their struggles.

Lunch
water, 1 cup (before lunch)
hot dog
sunflower seeds. 1/4 cup
baby carrots, 6
ranch dip, 1 teaspoon
water, 1 cup (after lunch)

Snack 1
Tin roof sundae ice cream, 1/4 cup
water, 1 cup

Took D15 to Sven practice and browsed the shelf at the library for half an hour while waiting for D22 to get off work for the day. Found a book on growing herbs.

Went grocery shopping for the last two hours of play practice and then brought Sven home.

My husband brought home pizza soon after that because he knew I had been running errands essentially all day. He also knew he was hungry after working a ten hour day in the sun.

Dinner
mushroom and pepperoni pizza, 1 slice
supreme pizza, 1 slice
diet A&W root beer, 1 cup

D22 and I shopped for casual shoes for her to wear to work as her summer sandals are spent. We stopped at Torrid and Famous Footwear. Nothing worked at Torrid while 2 worked at Famous. She chose the less expensive of the two and we were on our way home for the evening.

Snack 2
water, 1 cup (before snack)
multigrain bread, 1 slice
butter, 1 teaspoon
black grapes, 1 cup
water, 1 cup (after snack)

It’s Seeking God’s Face Ordinary Time Week 10 Day 2.
This week’s invitation tells of God’s multi-faceted goodness.
The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.—Psalm 145:13b

The house is very quiet this evening. My husband appears to have fallen asleep after a hard day’s work followed by pizza and the girls are watching an episode of who knows what. I plan to do a little tidying up as we have friends visiting tomorrow morning since we have a theatre-free day! I at least need to vacuum the kitchen, wash a few dishes, and take out the trash before crawling under the covers for a good night’s sleep. It's only 9pm...hope to be by 10!

Magic Notebook…

Here’s a list of foods that I’ve equated with happiness.
Banana cream pie,
Salty potato chips,
and
CANDY other than plain chocolate!

I save banana cream pie for celebrations like my birthday and our anniversary.
I’m skipping the salty potato chips for now except I will allow myself one or two chips at cookouts and other family or friend get togethers.
I’m allowing myself up to two pieces of candy a week so as not to drive myself insane with one being small like a Lifesaver and the other larger in size like a KIND bar.

I can reduce my intake of or entirely do away with some foods. I now this is true as i used to Drink Dr. Pepper daily and now I have moved on to never having it. I do have a diet non caloric no caffeine pop with pizza. I have also gone from 3 slices of pizza to just one slice. It can…and WILL be done. (100 Days of Weight Loss exercise - Day 6)

Another day in the life of Kohl…

Slept from midnight to 8am. (8 hours)

Weighed in at 216.4 which is even steven with yesterday…I am good with this as I didn’t know the caloric value of the foods I ate on your anniversary yesterday morning at the coffeehouse and later in the evening when my daughter surprised us with a favorite pie. I was a little worried I may have overdone it but I went easy on the pie size and the proof is in the pudding (or lack of it!).

Breakfast
flax and fiber bread, 2 slices
butter, 1 tsp
apricot preserves, 2 teaspoons
banana, small
skim milk, 1 cup

Walked 4 times around the block and drank a water (2 cups) bottle while trekking.

Snack
whole wheat spaghetti, 1 cup
spaghetti sauce, 1/4 cup
ground chuck, 1 ounce
raisins, 1/4 cup

Waiting at the library while D15 is having a Sven & Kristoff rehearsal. Writing up my magic notebook thoughts and reading today’s devotion.

Today is Seeking God’s Face Ordinary Time Week 9 Day 6.
Psalm 23 is this day’s Bible Song and it is chock-full of promises. I especially cherish verse 6, the last verse.

Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.—Psalm 23:6

These relevant words from a song are running through my mind.

When I taste Your goodness I shall not want (Audry Assad — I Shall Not Want)

Lunch
tortilla strips, 11 chips
black beans, 1/2 cup
cheese, 2 tablespoons
chicken, 2 ounces
honeydew, 1 cup
water, 1 cup (after lunch)

A friend dropped in for a visit and brought us some clothes her newly married daughter decided to be rid of so she and her husband could share a closet. Tee-hee! I think that’s extremely funny. So I sorted the clothes by who I thought would appreciate them most which didn’t allow D20 to have first dibs at trying all of them on this time.

Then it was time for a discussion about the upcoming fall semester with D20. She decided she will email the music chair to ask what music requirements she will have if she stays a double major and what they would be if she opts for just music. We also began looking at her present fall class schedule to see how feasible it would be to mesh with our homeschooling co-op, chorus, and theatre schedules. She won’t have a car so I will be driving her to and from college daily. She has a friend who lives nearby who has said she would give her a ride IF it works with her schedule. Tuesday is a problem but D22 may be able to get her there in the morning and my husband would have to commit to picking her up. Definitely still things to iron out.

We grilled hamburgers for dinner. I prepared a veggie tray with dip and they all insisted on opening a bag of chips as well.

Dinner
water, 1 cup (before dinner)
ground chuck, 3 ounces
whole wheat hamburger bun
onion, 1/4
hot dog
low salt pickle slice
tomato slice
leaf of lettuce
A-1 steak sauce, 1 teaspoon
muenster cheese, 1 ounce
baby carrots, 3
cucumber, 1/2 cup
water, 1 cup (after dinner)

Right now I’m getting my things in order to go with a friend to a farmer’s market about an hour away tomorrow. She will be doing a book signing there. On the trip there it will be nice to catch up on life’s happenings. I’ve never been to a book signing before so tI’m really looking forward to the experience.

Boundaries, Not Diets…

(Yesterday)

On my narrow road I measure out everything and take a minimum of 6000 steps daily. On my wider road I eat single healthy portions without tracking and give grace to the step count.

My narrow road is the 1600 DASH Plan which coincides with my calorie range on SparkPeople which is 1390—1740.
My wider road allows a piece of candy twice a week and a baked sweet good on special days.

No items are restricted on my wider road except caloric pop. On the days I choose to have a piece of candy I will most often choose those with fiber, like a kind bar or chocolate covered raisins. The baked goods on special days will be mini as in a doughnut hole rather than a doughnut. Sometimes when I am traveling or am stricken with severe illness I will give myself a break from walking workouts. (100 Days of Weight Loss exercise - Day 4)

Another day (at least the first part) in the life of Kohl...

Slept from ~ midnight until ~ 7am. (7 hours)

Weighed in at 216.4

Snack 1
banana

Walked 4x around the block and drank a water bottle (2 cups) while walking.

Today is our 32nd anniversary and my husband decided yesterday to ask for the day off. Don't know that we will be going anywhere as our youngest two have theatre rehearsal from noon until 3:00pm and a summer bash with the youth girls from our church from 7:00pm-8:30pm has been in the works for weeks now. It was nice for him to think of us though. Shows our individuality once again...I am a planner and he does things on whims. I would have listed this day as a conflict for the theatre director if I had known in advance but it's too late now as she builds the schedule on their availabilities and it would be rude to cancel for a nonemergency. I can possibly have D22 drive her younger sisters to the event tonight.

More to my day to come. We shall see what transpires...

Walked to the community garden to harvest vegetables: kohlrabi, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and kale.

Prepped a crockpot meal of chicken, black beans, tomatoes with chiles, and salsa for dinner. with whole wheat tortillas.

Went with my husband and two youngest daughters to a coffeehouse for breakfast.

Breakfast
banana bread, 1 slice
wildberry smoothie

Then we all walked to the downtown carousel for a ride before dropping the girls off for theatre rehearsal.

Lunch
water, 1 cup (with lunch)
ham, 6 thin deli slices
honeydew, 1 cup
raisins, 1/4 cup

Entered receipts from August into the checkbook. Whew! emoticon Quite a few for only a week.

Read Seeking God’s Face Ordinary Time Week 9 Day 5.
After this devotion’s Bible song and reading I focused on prayer. I am somewhat of a homebody so I have to really force myself to meet new people. This year has been full of new experiences for me as D20 has had some emotional struggles and is now pursuing counseling. I am her driver so I meet lots of people in the waiting room and have had the chance to show the love of Jesus to them. Praying for new relationships with those who need hope as I go about my job of being a mother and wife. I have a daughter, D15, who rarely speaks outside of the home unless she is performing in theatre. Praying that I may be a healthy example to her of the importance of talking with and interacting with people other than family.

Dinner
honeydew, 1 cup
rice, 1/4 cup
whole wheat tortilla
salsa, 2 tablespoons
sour cream, 2 tablespoons
chicken, 2 ounces
black beans, 1/2 cup
diced tomatoes, 1/4 cup

Tonight my husband and I drove our two youngest to our church’s teenage girl event. Then my husband and I visited the college campus where we met in our high school years. We walked around and noted what was the same and what had changed. Later when we picked up the girls they said they made amores and played a game where each person told two things about herself that was true and one that was false. The others guessed which one was false. When the leaders of the group told me they would get D15 to talk, they were right. She definitely enjoys games!

Upon returning home we found that D22 had made us a banana cream pie for our anniversary which just so happens to be my favorite kind of pie. Since it’s a day to celebrate I went ahead and ate 1/12 of it.

Do it anyway!…

It would be so easy to slide the slippery slope today and skip tracking my food and water intake but I need to see the numbers to know if I am staying in range to meet my goal of losing weight.

When my husband asks why I’m measuring out everything and keeping my phone (it’s my step tracker!) with me throughout the day, I remind him that I overeat and under exercise without the tracking accountability and step motivator.

Today I will…
Walk in the am.
Track my food and water intake.
Bring water with me as I will be taking my daughters to and fro.
Skip having a piece of candy (saving that option for my anniversary tomorrow).

I will do it anyway! I’m committed to losing weight. (100 Days of Weight Loss exercise - Day 3)

Another day in the life of Kohl…

Slept from ~ 1am until ~ 8am. (7 hours)

Weighed in at 216.8.

Breakfast
water, 1 cup (before breakfast)
peanut butter cereal, 3/4 cup
skim milk, 1 cup
banana, small

Walked 4x around the block.
Drank a water bottle (2 cups) while walking.

Prepared a veggie tray (radishes, cucumbers, and carrots) for our lunch at home.

Lunch
water, 1 cup (before lunch)
ham, 6 thin deli slices
watermelon, 1 cup
12 grain bread, 1 slice
apricot preserves, 1 teaspoon
butter, 1/2 teaspoon
radishes, 6
ranch dip, 1 tablespoon

Drove D20 to counseling.

Snack 1
water, 1 cup (with snack)
raisins, 1/4 cup

Read Seeking God's Face Ordinary Time Week 9 Day 4 while waiting.
Be exalted in your strength, Lord
We will sing and praise your might—Psalm 21:13

So thankful that God is strong and ruler of all that he created. So thankful that He is also gentle and extends His grace to us. Love His example!

Snack 2
kettle popcorn, 1 cup
sunflower seeds, 1/4 cup
mini cherry strudel
water, 1 cup (after snack)

My husband brought home ingredients for a spaghetti dinner and... flowers! Tomorrow is our 32nd anniversary!

D22 offered to pick D15 up after theatre rehearsal so I cooked the spaghetti dinner while she did that.

While dinner was cooking my husband and I had a heated discussion about each of our expectations regarding D20 living at home rather than in a dorm this fall. He expects her to keep all of her belongings in her room in the attic vs. I expect that a place for her book bag and drawing supplies be offered so she feels she is part of the family on the main floor. It became a discussion on how I sometimes leave items here and there and now we have four daughters following suit. I chalk it up to individuality. He wants our home to be pristine and I want it to be clean and COMFY.

When the spaghetti was ready I called everyone to the table and walked out of the backdoor. Not really allowed to cry in our home life…ade to feel that you are feeling sorry for yourself. So since I was crying because I have a slow recovery time I brought the empty trash cans up to the garage and…

Walked 2x around the block.

When I returned 20 minutes later everyone was done eating and had washed their own dishes except my husband who always rinses his. Ate dinner alone and then washed up the pans.

Dinner
water, 1 cup (with dinner)
wheat spaghetti, 1 cup
spaghetti sauce, 1/4 cup
diced tomatoes, 1/4 cup
ground chuck, 2 ounces
broccoli, 1 cup

Now I’m listening to Switchfoot’s Native Tongue album, their newest (and quiet brilliant). Really feeling the words to Take My Fire tonight.

Next up is a shower and an earlier than usual hitting of the hay.

Oh yeah…I made it past 10000 steps today!

Interested Or Committed?...

Tracking my food intake (and staying within my calorie range) and tracking exercise (minimum 6000 steps) is my daily job and I will treat it as if I were going to work…I cannot miss.

Food is part of family and friend time and is allowable. If my family stops for French Fries while traveling I allow myself one or two and stop there…just a taste; if I go to a homeschooling brunch I bring a healthy choice and choose healthy foods while not overloading my plate.

Today I became full quickly at breakfast time so I waited to eat the rest of my usual breakfast calories later in the morning as a snack after I walked around the block 3x.

I'm more than interested, I'm committed.

Another day in the life of Kohl…

Slept from ~ 1am until ~ 8am. (7 hours)

Weighed in at 217.2.

Breakfast
water, 1 cup (before breakfast)
granola, 1/3 cup
Gala apple, small
skim milk, 1/2 cup
ham, 6 thin deli slices
water, 1 cup (after breakfast)

Read Seeking God's Face Ordinary Time Week 9 Day 3.
Today’s Bible reading is taken from Genesis 2. Here is the part that caught my heart’s attention.

But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.— Genesis 2:20b-25

I am to be a suitable helper to my husband who left his family to join with me. We were a new family. My son is able to do the same and my daughters may be helpers and possibly mothers. Praying for them and though I may not know them yet for their future marriage partners.

Walked 3x around the block in the morning sunshine soaking in vitamin d.

Drank 2 cups of water during and after the walk.

Snack 1
cereal bar
skim milk, 1/2 cup

Lunch
water, 1 cup (before lunch
celery, 1 stalk
cucumber, 1/2 cup
baby carrots, 9 pieces
ranch dip, 1 tablespoon
pepperoni, 15 slices
tortilla chips, 12
salsa, 1/4 cup
berry blend juice, 1/4 cup
diet squirt, 1 cup
water, 1 cup (after lunch)

Played a game of bauns.

Cubed that watermelon while D15 whipped up a batch of wheat pancakes. D20 poured the batter on the griddle and added mini chocolate chips…So good!

Dinner
watermelon, 1 cup
chocolate chip pancakes, 4 cakes
maple syrup, 1 tablespoon
skim milk, 1 cup

Made a grocery list and then went shopping at Kroger with my husband.

Listened to Judah and the Lion’s album Kids These Days while putting away groceries. Need to listen again to determine my favorite tune.

Assisted my husband with weeding along the curb before the road is paved.

Did round two of shopping for groceries with my husband, this time at Walmart.

Snack 2
watermelon, 1 cup

I Used To Be That Way…

I used to drink only juice, chocolate milk, and caffeinated soda, but now I drink water, skim milk with a swirl of chocolate, iced tea, and a caffeine free diet soda with pizza.

I used to sit on my butt, but now I get up and walk…it’s my job.

I used to eat more than one portion because I love the taste of food, but now I use a small lunch plate and eat my one portion slowly.

I used to put taking care of me on the back burner, but now I listen to uplifting music and take the time to do a word puzzle daily.

I used to eat lots of candy every day, but now I have a piece or two weekly.

BUT now I’m different!

A day in the life of Kohl...
