Hiya! I've been answering questions the past few days (and until CSHARPMINOR returns). It's the very first thread in the challenges section of the team page called "Biggest Loser Challenge".

To answer your question, there are quite a few people who have dropped out of the challenge. If team have 1-2 people left remaining in them by tomorrow morning then I'll probably add a member to your team.

I'll post the results tomorrow.

I did not get the invite message until jsut about an hour ago...and while it is just now 3pm here, i saw that registration ended at 3pm EST. since I didnt get the message until 3pm EST and I had to drive home and weigh myself, can I still join in today? I was only like half an hour late....!

As far as the swapping of tips - ABSOLUTELY - we encourage you to motivate each other and swap tips. Our ultimate goal as a team is to help each other lose weight. We just like a little competition sometimes too :)

No, but there are some BLC that have each person contribute and then the total prize is whatever each person has contributed. We have decided not to do it that way at this time.

However, if there is enough interest, we may consider this for future challenges.

Onceagain - percent of weight loss is calculated as total pounds lost divided by the original starting weight. For example, if you lose 5 pounds and your starting weight was 200 pounds, you would have 2.5% lost.

can't wait i'm so exited. ugh i know that i'm not gonna get any sleep tonight. i know it's silly i'm getting so exited for an online competition , but i've been off the wagon for i while last april i was 180 lbs and now i'm around 250lbs 70 pound gain in less than a year.

so my question is that i know every week we will e-mail the team leader with our weight, but will we continue to post messges for each other here to motivate each other and swap tips??

I’m super excited about the BLC8 and I hope you all are as well!! If there are other questions please continue to ask them and CSHARPMINOR will address those questions asap.

1. How do you calculate the percent weight lost? I know you put how to do it, but I'm lost. Could you explain again please?

Each week when you update your stats with CSHARPMINOR you can email him your weight and he will do all the necessary calculations.

2. There is no registration fee at this time. Does that mean we might be charged later?

No, there is no registration fee.

3. How will teams be decided, randomly? CSHARPMINOR will select the teams.

4. You say that we are team 8, who are the other teams? This is the 8th time the 20 somethings with 100+ pounds to lose Team has done the BLC (Biggest Loser Challenge).

5. Who are we competing against?

Everyone who signs up will placed into teams. There will be several teams and the teams will be competing against each other. This challenge is contained in the 20 somethings with 100+ pounds to lose Team.

6. If I get pregnant can I drop out without it hurting my team?

There might be a short grace period (maybe the same amount of time people can still signup after the challenge starts), however the way it usually works is once a person drops out then their weight remains on the team so even though it’s still possible for the team to win, it makes it very challenging to overcome. This is the reason the BLC takes a big commitment from everyone and is truly a team effort.

I'll take a stab at some of these questions, altho they are not your official answers.. I'm sure our fearless challenge leader will be by soon...

Legally I don't believe SP would let a team charge to join a challenge even if they wanted to. Since promoting products and double posting are spark no-no's ... I'm pretty sure SP would have a cow if they found out a team was charging to join a challenge. Most likely they'd shut it down. So I'd go with a big fat no, don't worry about that happening.

The whole thing is just to be serious and committed to the challenge. Things happen but from prior experience.. a lot of people sign on gung ho and then 2 weeks later are mia for the rest of the 6 weeks. And we don't want that. It's hard on the leaders, leaves your team short and paying the price and the whole contest suffers.


As far as the person asking about Team 8.. I'm sorry I read through the posts and forgot usernames... I apologize. Anyway we are not team 8... this is the 8th time that particular person before you has done this challenge. The challenge runs for a specified time period. After that, they start over and do the challenge again. Think of it like the tv show.. This is Biggest loser season 8. ;) We will be divided into teams and compete against each other in small groups.

I'm guessing they're randomly assigning teams?? Thats what I assumed too.

And I believe that the leaders are figuring out the percentages, from what I understood we only need to report the number of Lbs lost. If not, somebody needs to check mine, even if I do understand I'm likely to mess it up somehow.. i suck at Math. lmao

Anyway... these are just my guesses. emoticon emoticon

Absolutely that is OK. While SP gives you an example diet, many SparkPeople are not using that. They use their own but use the guidelines for calories, fat, carbs and protein.

The important thing to remember is that you are doing this healthy and not doing any crash diets. From what you are stating, it sounds like you are doing great! You will be fine.

Weigh ins should not occur for the initial weigh-in until February 28th. If you wish to email me your other information now and then your weigh in on the 28th, that would be fine.

So if someone emails today and the contest starts the 28th, is starting weight, the weight when email is sent or your weight on the 28th when the contest starts? It seems like someone who used their weight now and lost weight up to the 28th would have a bit of a head start.
