I did 2 strength videos today. I added them to my fitness tracker, but they aren't showing the sets/reps. Is it still giving me credit for that with those spots being blank?

Hi. I completed the first week of bootcamp! Yay! My question is, is there somewhere on one of the forums I'm supposed to be posting what I completed, minutes, etc? Are our stats somehow being monitored from our pages. I want to make sure I'm doing everything I need to be doing, and at the same time eligible for the prizes.

Thanks so much!!

ROBINHP - There is no requirement to do all the scheduled workouts on the scheduled days. As long as you get the 500 minutes in you will be eligible for the grand prize.

If we miss days, do we still qualify for Bootcamp prizes? I will easily hit my 500 minutes for the month, but I was in bed with a nasty stomach bug all day yesterday. I'm up today, but definitely not ready to exercise.

JUNIAATROME - You don't need to fill in the sets and reps for the workouts. It is in two parts so you will get credit for the fitness minutes, since each strength exercise listed is worth 5 fitness minutes.

JOYAJ9 - There is no option to print the workout videos. Some of the previous bootcamp workouts were made into printable format, but not these. You could (and I think someone on the team already did this and posted it) watch the video and write down the exercises to take with you.

To get the weight loss ticker, go to your Sparkpage and click on edit, then scroll down for the options.

ALso-I would love to have that "goal bar" on the bottom of my messages, but I don't know how to put it on there...

Could you check to see if you are sending me emails. My husband and I have the same spam blockers and they would only effect my personal email not SP email. He is getting both for BC, I'm not. Also I have no trouble getting any other SP email, I receive about 10-15 a day

This may be a stupid one but: when I track the boot camp video it sais 2 repetitions? Does that mean I've got to do the whole video twice (like the 15 minutes of crunches?)It seems to me that I do more than 12-15 repetitions of the same

AVAQUEEN74, I'm not sure when that particular dvd will be added to the tracker, but in the meantime you could log it under a category that it is most similar to. If you're doing the cardio workout you could log it as general aerobics. The calories burned might not be entirely accurate, but at least you'll be logging your fitness minutes. Another option is to use a heart rate monitor if you have one and manually enter your calories burned.

If you're not concerned with calories burned, another option is to log the videos using Quick Track. You could simply type in the name of the video you've completed and how many minutes you exercised for. Just make sure you're only using one method of tracking, otherwise you'll end up with an inaccurate total of fitness minutes.

This will probably be a repeated question, and for that I apologize. I just don't have the time to read through 9 pages of Q & A!

I have the Fit, Firm & Fired Up DVD. I use the 15 minute Cardio in a crunch segment ( which is awesome, btw!), alas, it is not listed in the drop down menus on the Fitness Tracker. Do we have an ETA as to when this DVD might be added to the Tracker?

Also, I have only just gotten all of the videos in a format that I can put on my iPod (and even purchased a component that enables you to watch your iPod on your TV! AWESOME!!). I have done the above DVD's in place of the videos, due to not being able to use the recommended videos due to the location of my computer and the fact that it sucks for video watching. :P But I HAVE been working out all but 2 days. How would one track that so it works with the challenge? I just don't want to miss out on anything!

I thank you for being so awesome and supportive!

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but when I try "searching" I keep coming up w/ zero results found.

Under "Other Goals" for the Boocamp, there is the check box for "Do 1 Bootcamp workout video 1 time per day". If I am unable to DO the video and am substituting other doable exercises for the same duration or longer; for tracking purposes do I check this box or leave it blank?

It looks as though I'm not participating by leaving it blank, but I am exercising daily, and I am tracking in the fitness area. When I check my streaks or records this area comes up blank or zero.

Does it matter one way or another?

Thank you.

Thanks!! That's very helpful!!
There are times when I'm out of breath, sweating, and sore back. However, that's not the entire time of cleaning. Mopping floors is the killer for me!!

CHONZ123 - The cardio tracker database has heavy cleaning, but general cleaning would be considered activity rather than cardio exercise. If it is hard enough work that it gets your heart rate up and keeps it there, if you are sweating and short of breath, then you can count it as heavy cleaning. If not, it's just part of the calories that you burn daily from being alive, and not extra calories burned by exercising.

I clean a house on my day off from my regular job and it usually takes me 7 hours to clean. It's a 3 level home, with dusting, sweeping, cleaning bathrooms, how many calories can I compare that to an aerobic workout? I tried the spark activity to see how many calories I burned, but they don't have a category for "general house cleaning".
Thanks,
Jamie

K_RENEE - The Day One Jump Start video is listed in the cardio tracker. You can do a search for it. Also, it's fine to substitute the printable workouts if you need to. In addition, there is a thread where your teammates give instructions to the videos so you could do them away from the computer.

@Chocsundae- I also am putting walk for 30 min when I use my Leslie Sansone videos.

But I also have a question. Has anyone been able to track the Coach Nicole Video from day one? I haven't been able to do it, and I want to make sure I get credit because I've done all of the videos this week. Also, I find that the ones with the option to "print the video" work really well for me because I can't always take the computer with me.

MEGSMILE38 - It's best to check with your doctor about the pain and make sure he clears you for exercise. I don't think we can really make recommendations in this situation without knowing for sure what is causing your pain and that it's ok for you to exercise. Sorry I can't be more help!

Question: My Dr. has strongly urged me to lose weight, not only for my health, but for me achey knees. She believes I suffer from osteoarthritis. Since I have begun exercising, my knees are extremely painful and there are days where I cannot stand from a sitting position without pushing myself up with my arms. In addition, my left hip is aching, feels like it is a joint pain, rather than a muscle pain. As a result, I have stopped doing exercise tapes, and am now going to the gym and using an Ellipitcal Trainer for my cardio.... the knees are still achy, but I can stand much better from a sitting position.

I cannot jump in the video that we have to do tomorrow, so I improvised (last week) with a low impact version and I did keep moving thru the entire routine.

Should I make an appointment with my Dr. and does the increase in pain in my knees mean that something is wrong, or is that just typical of arthritis? Also, can you recommend exercises that will strengthen my quadriceps, which the Dr. said would help with the knee pain?

Lastly, beyond the obvious high impact aerobics, are there other exercises I should stay away from to protect my knees?

Yikes!!!! I think I'm overtracking my fitness! After each boot camp video, I scroll down the page and add to my fitness page. No problem. For my 30 minute cardio ( a 2 mile powerwalk with Leslie Sansone) I click "my cardio" and add it. No problem. AND I also track how many miles I am walking. Here's the problem. (It's the same 2 milepower walk with Leslie) Am I double tracking??? Before I posted, I went through all 9 pages and I'm sorry I'm still not getting it. Thanks ahead of time. You're awesome and very patient.

SOFEDUPP, Communicating on the message boards is not a requirement to be eligible for the contest. You don't have to post on here at all if you don't want to.

Progress will vary from person to person so it's hard to say what you should expect after one week. Some people are lucky and respond right away to exercise and healthy eating, while it may take a couple of weeks for others. It would be normal to lose 1-2 pounds a week, but it would also be normal to lose nothing in the beginning. Consistency is key. As long as you consistently continue to exercise and eat healthy you will see results and achieve your goal. Good luck!

Thank you for answering my question so quickly. I find that in some areas I can't find a video that I can do so I'm making up as I go then and then trying to find an activity that best matches when doing tracking.

Thanks so much for all the work you have put into this "Bootcamp".

I don't remember reading anything that said we have to post????

I understand that the bootcamp is about exercise, watching what one eats and community. My question is, for the contest, in order to be eligible, does a person have to be communicating on the message board all week, or on any message board?

Another question, sorry, what should a person expect to see in changes after the first week; weight loss, inches lost, what?

To JAXMOMMY: I'm 5'0 and have the same problems, especially holding the ball behind my back. While I'm not the most flexible on the block, I'm pretty sure that the main problem is that my arms are just too short. It also doesn't help that I have a large chest, when doing exercises with the ball in front. This is not a problem that Coach Nicole has... I almost think that a 45 cm ball would be a better fit for me. They might make child sized balls... after all, I have to wear child sized gloves! LOL

I am not able to keep up with the 7-day boot camp exercises and I was told that I could still exercise and participate as long as I maintained 500 exercise minutes a month. So, each day I spend an hour and no less than 45 minutes in each of these exercises: stationary bike, calisthenics ( leg abductions, lunges, marching in place, wall push-ups, back extensions, running in place) and later in the day I do light weights, walking and climbing stairs.

I hope that these keep me in the running.

JAXMOMMY - On the lunge, just reach your foot back as far as it will comfortably go. Having the ball behind you just keeps your back straight and prevents you from leaning forward. As for holding the ball behind you, I think that is a shoulder issue. Maybe try without the ball until you get more flexibility in your shoulders.

Hi again. I am 5'1" and have a 55 cm. ball. According to the charts and by me sitting on it and my knees are at 90 degrees, it seems to be the correct size for me, but with Day 2's video and today's (Day 6) I find I am having a few problems.... I'm wondering what I need to do to get around the issues I'm having....

1. When we do lunges with our foot against the wall, my leg doesn't reach back that far under the ball. I am blind, so only can listen to Coach Nicole's directions, so my question here is should I be doing this some other way? I have my ball at center/lower back and my legs about hip width apart and try to put one foot back against the wall, but it doesn't reach with the ball there....

2. I can't seem to grasp the ball at all behind me... It is like my arms don't reach. I do have shoulder issues and wonder if they just are not able to reach back far enough to grasp the ball or if I am doing something wrong again....

I hope these questions make sense and I'd appreciate any hints on how to work around the problems! Thanks!

PEPMIESTER - Just do the best you can and if you keep trying you will notice improvement. But if you would like, it's fine to substitute other videos. Track them the same way.

PEPMIESTER, Just do what you can and substitute other exercises where you have to. That will be fine.

Ummm, I seem to be having a real problem with some of the daily videos. I just cant do some of them. If I substitute other exercises that work the same body area as the video, figure out how to track them. Will that count?

Thanks

JANETLEE09 - I don't recall that being a rule for joining. It's suggested to regularly participate in the message boards because community support is so important for success. It sounds you're doing a great job of staying involved!

Ok, this is probably gonna sound stupid but hopefully you believe in the theory of there being no stupid questions......one of the rules for joining was joining in the message boards, what-atleast 3x a week, preferably daily, right? Do we only need to do it one time for it to count that day? I have huddled, shared my thoughts on the workout, added an emoticon, and now asking this question.....I have been on Sparkpeople off and one for awhile now but still trying to get a hang of the way things work! emoticon
