99% of the time, when your craving something,
IT IS WATER,
by the time you think your thirsty, your dehydrated..

somehow over the years, we have switch our thirst for water to a certain food
so try water first, and then if after 20 minutes your still craving a certain food eat it..

i am seriously addicted to white foods, flour, sugar, processed food
if i eat one bite, watch out, i am like an addict

so hard! ! !

Getting discouraged?
Lift something equal to the weight you've lost and carry it around for awhile

Once choice at a time per day
will make your new life style become reality !

" ...have gone a lot of days not even eating that way."
This is most likely the answer to your obsessing about food. By not eating regularly, 3 meals and 1-2 snacks, all healthy natural foods, you are telling your body that food is often scarce and your body does what it is supposed to do, crave food, because it seems to be starving.
If you eat 5 times a day in moderation and within your calorie range every day you are a lot less likely to obsess about food.
If you still obsess but are not hungry try journaling every time you want to eat to find out what makes you want the pleasure of food. That will help you get in touch with the real need that's behind the desire to eat. Are you stressed, sleep-deprived, sad or depressed (because something happened or just because lack of sunlight and in need of more Vitamin D). Then you can go to the root of the problem.
Avoid being around unhealthy food not just at home but also away from home. Old habits are hard to get rid off.
If you gain several pounds within a few days you know it has to be mostly water weight because it takes 3500 extra calories to gain one pound.
Reduce your salt intake to 1500 mg/day and drink more water and the water weight will disappear. Also hormone changes can add a few pounds temporarily.
Weighing only once a month or every other week helps you ignore the normal fluctuations.
The more you can reward yourself for efforts (clean eating and exercise) rather than results (what the scales show), the better you will feel and the better your metabolism will function.

How in the world do you get over mentally obsessing about food?
.
I'm fine if I'm at home and I'm busy. I won't think anything at all about food and have gone a lot of days not even eating that way. But that's not the case if I'm not busy.

If it's at home or I'm out and around it, I'll think about it and think about it until I have some. Then when I have some I'll think about it and obsess about it until I have some more and until it's gone.

I try not to have bad stuff in my house and that helps. But if I'm out around it, I have not control. And then there's times when I sit at home and think about it until I make special trip to the grocery store just for that one thing....and of course when I go get that one thing I have to eat it until it's gone.

Weekends are the worst too. During the week I guess I'm in work mode. But come the weekend my self control slipps and then I gain back whatever I lost all week.

I knew a guy that lost a lot of weight by eating strict during the week and then one day a week he ate absolutely all that he wanted to eat. If it was a bag of chips and a whole gallon of ice cream and a box of debbie cakes, he at all that. His reasoning was that he ate it until he didn't want it anymore.... Of course he was strict enough during the week that he lost more weight than what he gained on that day..... I can pick up 2-4 pounds in a day!

So what are your thoughts and your strategies?
