emoticon Dec Week 3 Mini Mission: Gift of Rest & Relaxation: emoticon (Compliments of Aimee!)

I bet that challenge title got your attention huh? Well yes, this week we our going to give ourselves the gift of rest and relaxation. Further, this challenge is going to go a little beyond one week to carry us on through the day after Christmas. It will start tomorrow, Thursday December 15th and will run through Monday, December 26th.

Now for your challenge! It's times like this around the busy holiday season that we are often so busy making sure everything is set for all of the holiday festivities and so busy making sure that everyone else is happy that we forget about ourselves! We go without sleep, without exercise, we nibble while we cook and our healthy diets go right out the window.

Resting is a very important part of your diet and I read an article this week that explained not getting enough sleep can actually alter the way that your body metabolizes food and makes it harder to lose weight. With that in mind, you'll get 50 points for each night of this challenge that you get 7-9 hrs of sleep!

In addition, it's really important for your waking hours to make time for rest and for yourself. It's not selfish-think of it as necessary for your sanity! It's so easy to get caught up and before you know if you're frazzled. This week give yourself the gift of relaxation by finding just 15 minutes in each day for yourself. Take a bath, read a book, meditate, lock yourself in the bathroom with the radio...just do something to find some time for yourself, gather your thoughts, find some peace and just regroup. For each day that you give yourself just 15 minutes you earn 50 points!

The third part of our challenge is here to try to keep you on track...it's addressing that mindless holiday eating. As we taste while we cook, those little tastes really add up! It's also easy to forget just how many calories are in our favorite family dinners. It's OK to indulge! It is however a little dangerous to do it without being mindful about what is going in our mouths. In an effort to be more mindful about what we eat, let's track our food this week. If you go over, you go over-it's not the end of the world! At least if you're tracking it, you know what is going in your mouth-even if you have to estimate some of it. Earn 100 points for each day you track your food during this challenge!

And finally, you might be wondering how exercise fits in with rest and relaxation. Well aside from exercise creating a more restful sleep at night, there are some exercises that can actually be relaxing like stretching and yoga. That brings us to the SUPER BONUS challenge. Earn 500 bonus points by trying yoga this week!

Thanks for the additional suggestion! This is exactly what I had in mind. This part of the challenge was really to get everyone to try something they might not have tried before...at home OR in a classroom! Just a few moves OR a full routine...it all earns the bonus!

I bet that challenge title got your attention huh? Well yes, this week we our going to give ourselves the gift of rest and relaxation. Further, this challenge is going to go a little beyond one week to carry us on through the day after Christmas. It will start tomorrow, Wednesday December 15th and will run through Sunday, December 26th.

Now for your challenge! It's times like this around the busy holiday season that we are often so busy making sure everything is set for all of the holiday festivities and so busy making sure that everyone else is happy that we forget about ourselves! We go without sleep, without exercise, we nibble while we cook and our healthy diets go right out the window.

Resting is a very important part of your diet and I read an article this week that explained not getting enough sleep can actually alter the way that your body metabolizes food and makes it harder to lose weight. With that in mind, you'll get 50 points for each night of this challenge that you get 7-9 hrs of sleep!

In addition, it's really important for your waking hours to make time for rest and for yourself. It's not selfish-think of it as necessary for your sanity! It's so easy to get caught up and before you know if you're frazzled. This week give yourself the gift of relaxation by finding just 15 minutes in each day for yourself. Take a bath, read a book, meditate, lock yourself in the bathroom with the radio...just do something to find some time for yourself, gather your thoughts, find some peace and just regroup. For each day that you give yourself just 15 minutes you earn 50 points!

The third part of our challenge is here to try to keep you on track...it's addressing that mindless holiday eating. As we taste while we cook, those little tastes really add up! It's also easy to forget just how many calories are in our favorite family dinners. It's OK to indulge! It is however a little dangerous to do it without being mindful about what is going in our mouths. In an effort to be more mindful about what we eat, let's track our food this week. If you go over, you go over-it's not the end of the world! At least if you're tracking it, you know what is going in your mouth-even if you have to estimate some of it. Earn 100 points for each day you track your food during this challenge!

And finally, you might be wondering how exercise fits in with rest and relaxation. Well aside from exercise creating a more restful sleep at night, there are some exercises that can actually be relaxing like stretching and yoga. That brings us to the SUPER BONUS challenge. Earn 500 bonus points by trying yoga this week!
