I went to the ranch today. Got in some steps there. I will be walking again after it cools down. What is it with dogs and squirrels. Alice killed on at the ranch yesterday. Sarge got one a few days before.

I mowed my lawn yesterday, so I need to track that. Tonight I will walk to Leslie Sansone.

Sophie didn't know what to do earlier this afternoon. She spotted 6 squirrels playing in the drive but were on the other side of the fence. They must have been litter mates. She was going crazy!

I had a quiet day today. Did a few things at home. Took Henley and Munchie for a car ride. Went to a pet store for dog treats. Went to Starbucks, and the kids that work there give the dogs whip cream. Henley orders on his own now lol. Can you imagine asking "what would you like?", and hearing a blood hound answer lol. Alice caught a Squirrel at the ranch today. The ranch owner is always glad, I have mixed feelings. After all that is the Squirrel's home. The dogs haven't caught a Lizard yet though.

I ended up taking my dogs for about a 1 mile walk. They were huffing and puffing when we got done. Sophie was exhausted and went to sleep early last night. I am surprised she was tired since she is always running after squirrels, but it was a bit warm so that may have been an issue.

It is cooler today. 57 degrees when I got up and it expected to be in the mid 70's. So we may take another walk today!!

It has been a stressful day with my mom. She is at a nursing facility and is very depressed and was really upset today. I stepped in and was trying to tell them that we really need to set up an appointment with the social worker so we can get things moving to get her home. Hopefully, I can see this person on Monday. I know my sisters will be at work and so will my brother and I would like all them to be there, but it probably won't happen unless we schedule it for another day and I hate to do that.

So since I am already sweaty, I should put my walking shoes back on and take the dogs for a walk and walk off some of the stress!

I keep my Pedometer clipped to my jeans all the time. That way I don't forget it. Oh, getting old lol. It came with an extra attachment I also clip to my jeans. That way, if something bumps my pedometer (usually Henley) it doesn't fall to the ground.

I have a couple of pedometers, but I keep forgetting to put one on when I mow the grass. I got one in the mail not too long ago as part of my "wellness benefit" through work. It seems like a nice one, because it measured accurately the number of steps I took, the others really weren't that great. I had it one time when I was mowing and it fell off. The clip wasn't that strong or I bent it a little to far and it loosened up and I would hate to lose it...even though it was free!

I don't like leaving my dogs in the car either, so if I know I need to stop at the store, I drop them off at home first or if I have someone with me then I leave them in the car.

Why don't you get a Pedometer. I use one, and love it. Don't buy one at Walmart or Target though. Omron has good ones. I went to Lowe's today, and walked around looking for some more plants. I ended up helping a lady decide on which plants to get. She was really sweet. We had a great conversation. The line was so long, I decided to go back and buy the plants that I want. I had Alice and Sarge in the car, and didn't want to leave them for a long time. We aren't hot here, but I never leave them in the car for a long time. I also need to go to Walmart and pick up a few things. I am completely out of Cascade, and need to run the dish washer. So that will be more steps added on for me. I watered the front yard, and feed the Sparrows, Scrub Jay etc., but still need to do a few more things out there.

I worked in my yard today. Mowed the grass, blew the driveway and sidewalks clean. One of these days I am going to measure how much I walk while mowing my grass. I bet it could be between 1/4 and 1/2 mile....at least it feels like it. So I am taking a break from doing my walk tonight. My body is stiff after working in the yard, that's alot of work!

I agree with you. You need to talk to the Nurse or a Doctor to see what more can be done. My Dad went through not wanting to eat. They did have some medication they gave me to perk up his appetite. It helped some. I have noticed the birds being chatty as well. Love to hear the song birds!

Today - 1 mile/15 minutes.

I tried talking to my mom today and we were getting very far. Her mouth is so dry it is hard for her to talk and her voice is gravelly. She could get the words or think of what she wanted to say as to what was going on. I told her that my sisters should be up there and they should talk to a nurse with her. I don't think they did as they didn't give me much more info. They were going back up tonight, so keep your fingers crossed that they speak to someone. I plan on going tomorrow morning and I will try to get some answers. My sisters did go and rent some home health equipment for her apt today....a wheelchair, walker with 4 wheels and breaks, a commode, and bed rails. Now we just need to get her "health" - physically and mentally going forward. I think her system is out of whack, so we were thinking of getting her some Ensure to drink since she hasn't been eating much. I am sure her electrolytes are way off. She needs some nutrition of some kind. The food at the nursing facility is terrible!!

I have been waking up earlier than usual with the sun coming up earlier each day and the birds seemed really noisey this morning. If I am up early tomorrow, I should just go out and walk with the dogs rather then let them out while I go lay back down on the couch!!!

She seemed fine yesterday, just tired and weak. I wore her out with going to the park and being out in the heat...although I stopped in some shade and made sure I had water. I just talked to my sister and she said that my mom told her she was in therapy again and not exactly sure what happened, but it sounded like she passed out or blacked out and couldn't communicate. They did another doppler on her to check for a blood clot and it sounded like she may have one in her liver or near her liver. This is not good! So I don't know if this is from the leg that she had or if it is a new one. I just hope it doesn't go to her lung or heart or head. It was bad enough last week when we thought she had a stroke.

I walked yesterday pushing my mom in a wheelchair, but I don't know how far it was...maybe a 1/2 miles.

Today I walked a mile.

I made up my mind that I needed to get back to exercising and eating properly as of yesterdays hamburger and chips and seeing myself in a mirror. Yikes!!!

That is what I should be doing, just get up and go with the dogs. It was so nice in the morning yesterday, but I had to leave for an eye appt and today I was up early and had to take my mom to the eye doctor. We have eye issues in my family. LOL!

We've had so much rain the last couple of months it has been hard to get out and walk. Sunday I walked as part of my butterfly monitoring. It was about a 2 mile walk, but part of it was through over the ankle water. Wasn't happy about getting my feet wet, but had no choice I had to get through this area of the park and either way you went it was wet and I was feeling sick because of the heat and I just wanted to make it to a bench on the other side so I could sit before passing out.

Right now we have some thunderstorms going through that are pretty nasty. Not sure what tomorrow will be like....probably more rain!!

I haven't been able to keep up with my teams lately, but have regained my weight so I decided I need to MAKE the time somehow, because you guys are what made me successful before. Today I started a new regime of getting up early and walking the dogs first thing. Of course, the drizzle turned into a thunderstorm en route, so we cut it short. But I got in 1.5 miles before 8 a.m. WooHoo! I have a wet Cavalier in my lap.Gotta figure out how to log the miles for the team.

We've had 2 days in a row of sun, first time in ages. I confess I haven't been doing a darned thing. Blaming the rain.

Rainy weather doesn't affect my DVD player so I have no excuse for not doing Leslie Sansone. MUST get back in gear. Even the dogs are bored, bored, bored with this gray, rainy bit.

It has been very windy here and rainy. Chilly today. I don't know when I will get out and walk.

We were in the 70's today, with high wind warnings. Seems we have the wind a lot anymore. At least we aren't having tornadoes! Hope ya'll have a good week-end!

Its the first time I've seen the sun in FOREVER and the first time in a while I won't meet my 2 miles of walking with Oliver. :( Oliver and I are babysitting tonight so we won't be taking our long walk this evening. And now the rest of the weekend is supposed to be stormy. I think they weather man has a grudge against me.

My friend lives in Corvallis. I call him my friend rather than my ex-bf as we are still on speaking terms even though he knows I am not happy with him about the way he left. (long story) He still wants a relationship with me, but it is really hard when it is long distance. He complains a lot about the weather too! Rain, rain, and more rain then dry!

Where do you live...if you don't mind me asking. I live in Ohio, right on Lake Erie so we get cold winds during the winter and well....spring too, but the wind from the lake during the summer is great!!

At least you know what you're talking about AND she asked! To me, the know-it-all types are more the ones who just talk to hear themselves. emoticon

Our Spring is not yet happening. I have nest boxes up for W. Bluebirds & swallows (usually Tree & Violet Green). I haven't seen a bird try yet, which is probably a good thing. Cold wet Springs are nasty on nesting swallows.
Whom can we petition for warmer weather soon?!?

I was at the park a week or so ago and a woman wanted to know what kind of bird was sitting on the feeder. I told her and then she asked a few more questions. When she got up she said thanks for the info, but I kind of felt like I came off as a know it all. Oh well. Although, I have to admit I did recognize a bird call way before I saw it. They were sandhill cranes and they were way up in the sky and far off when I heard them long before I saw them.

I agree, with the price of gas, that I won't be doing much running either. I am supposed to be monitoring raptors and butterflies and it is going to be tough to do. I should say...already is tough. The weather has been rainy lately and windy. Hard to do either study in those conditions.

This week was supposed to finally bring sun. We've had 2 days, now back to gray. I think it's forgotten how to be Spring. I don't text or Twitter & have no idea how one deciphers that stuff. Maybe it helps to be 14!

And don't underestimate yourself. You're several notches above just "watching" birds!

My birding is best just around my feeder! Several years ago, I took a couple of classes & went on field trips with our local Audubon group. Fascinating & helpful, but more than a bit intimidating. We have professional field ornithologists locally & field guide authors who just rattle off acronyms & can identify birds by sound about a mile off. Educational but man, was I out of my depth. A local group that was more informal had small group politics issues & no longer meets. At 4 bucks a gallon, I don't think I'll be doing the field trip/bird chase bit anytime soon.

These days, I'm doing well to take binocs along when I walk my Basset. Somehow wildlife don't respond to him like he's an intruder! Deer or birds just give a casual glance & go back to whatever they were doing! My chubby little Cavalier, on the other hand, can spot a sparrow in a hedge 1/2 a mile down. It's the only time he speeds up on walks--and then, hang on!

It dawned on me a couple of days later what GSD was. I've seen it before. I guess I haven't heard birders use acronyms, but that would probably confuse me too. I'm not really around "birders" that study and follow them everyday. I do it as a hobby, but not everyday and I use the actual names. Same with texting or sending emails. I don't text so I don't know all the acronyms for that and when they are sent in an email, I have to decifer what the heck the person is saying. Drives me nuts sometimes. Usually I can figure it out, but there are times I have to send....What?.....like the GSD.. LOL!!! (I think we all know what that stands for!!)

It has been raining the last several days. First sunny day we are to get is Thursday, if we get it, and then rain again. Lovely Spring weather!! Today I am staying home as I am waiting for my new fridge. It should be here in the next hour or so. .....I hope!!

Ooops. Sorry! German Shepherd Dog. I can sympathize. I feel pretty lost when serious birders start tossing around acronyms. It's not good when I start getting the acronyms mixed up! "Hmmm...is that a Pointer or a Heron...? Lemmee think...."

I do wish people would keep their dogs leashed or fenced. It gives the rest of us a bad rep. (And some headaches).

The sun came out, inspiring me to get away from my sorta-malfunctioning computer. Did 35 minutes anyway & almost 2 miles.

GSD? -- don't want to sound stupid, but what is it. Brain isn't working!

We had a choc. lab that came down to the end of my street (I live on a dead end). This dog lived at the beginning of the street where it comes off a busy street. Good thing he came our direction. I tried to get the dog, but my neighbor ended up stopping him. He put a leash on him and walked him back to him home and told the people to watch their dog or let it get hit! They said he got out the house. Well that could be true, but certainly no one came looking for him. I don't think they have the dog anymore.

Ha! I said that & a few more things I won't repeat here. emoticon I ended up going into a nearby house to ask if they had a spare leash! They volunteered to walk the dog back home (about a 1/2 mile away). I think he had every intention of coming the whole walk with us. I'm still grateful to that family for helping!

Then there were 2 GSDs who charged out onto the road, but at least their owner came out & called 'em back.

This is why I usually go to town to walk, but at $4 a gallon, it didn't seem worth it. Ah, the calm & quiet of the country!

Definitely track all those miles! Think of the points! You've earned 'em; get 'em! emoticon

Can you say irresponsible dog owner!!!!

On Sunday I ended up walking 4 miles at the park and then went grocery shopping. I wore my pedometer while at the store and running back and forth, because I would forget something, it was another 1.5 miles!! Who know going to the store would give you that kind of workout! LOL!!

Guess I should track that in the system!!

Got in an hour last night with one of the dogs, almost 3 miles. I suppose it was 3 miles if I count trips back & forth trying to ditch a large not-overly-friendly Lab mix who decided to accompany us for a good 1/2 mile.

I heard a Meadowlark, doves & a zillion frogs. It's hard to get in a relaxing walk though when you're being accompanied by about 80+ lbs of dog with his ruff up who keeps circling your 20 lb on-leash dog every few steps. emoticon

Ah yes, "Move to the country with run to let 'em run". $%#!. The people just built a new house, have a 5th wheel, barn, & a bunch of ATVs. Did they build a fence for their dog? Was he fixed? Nooooooo. vent...vent...gnash..vent....

Well, at least it got my heart rate up in more ways than one!

Hope the sun stays out for ya. We have had 2 Western Scrub Jays in our pine trees for 2 years, but this year I think the Ravens chased them off. They still come for their peanuts, but I don't hear them like I used to. emoticon

Got in 2.2 miles last night. It's finally sort of sunny & I hope to get out again.

I love bluebirds & have a few nest boxes up for Western Bluebirds here. Last Spring was lousy but we usually get at least 2 breeding pair & a few Violet Green & Tree Swallows.

And wow. The ALLEN Parton & Endel story is amazing & needs a serious Kleen-ex alert. Just amazing.

Didn't got to the lake today as the car was in for its MOT. Walked to and from the service station down the footpath and up the big hill. 2.5 miles and only saw one dog. It was Allen Parton with his new dog. His old one was famous and was called Endel. Here is a link to tell you about him, he was a beautiful dog. The new one looks very much like him. It was quite a thrill to see them.

We used to go and help at the Hawk Conservancy and loved it. We used to muck out the Bald Eagle pen and some of the owls. Used to general maintenance like laying mulch around the pens too. I love owls, bet the lecture was interesting. I was lucky today we walked at the lake and saw the green woodpecker. On the way back I saw a Buzzard soaring and in a tree near where we live there was a sparrow hawk. Didn't see many dogs today, it had been raining and that stops a lot of people from dog walking round the lake. I walked /ran 1 and a half miles today. Did 3 1/2 hours gardening this afternoon and there were lots of blue tits around. Saw the song thrush, heard the robin singing and the blackbird came down where I had been digging, looking for worms.

I saw one spaniel, a brittany, yesterday while on my walk.

For the birds, I didn't see any hawks or owls, but did see my first "live" Eastern Bluebirds. I've only ever seen them in pictures. Such a vivid blue on the males. Of course, lots of robins too.

Today I went for a lecture on owls at another park. They had Nature's Nursey, a wildlife rehab, bring in a Eastern Screech owl, Barn Owl, and Great Horned Owl. They are all used for educational purposes because they cannot be released back into the wild because of injuries or humans have imprinted on them. I asked about volunteering there and was told to fill out a form and mail it in and they would contact me. I would love just to work with the birds, but it could be anykind of animal which would be okay with me too. I was told the guy that heads up the raptor research does banding there and probably could join in on that. Cool!!

Wow. Good job, people!

I'd love seeing other spaniels on our walks! I swear the town I'm in has the highest Pit Bull-per-capita rate in the country. No lie. I'm in the country where everyone thinks they can let their dogs run. If I take my boys, I take 'em to town to walk where there are at least leash laws--or supposed to be. At a local park where we used to go, it's even getting overrun. It's one reason, a biggie, why I don't walk my guys as often as I do me.

Mind you, I've known a few safe, friendly Pits. Around here, they are in a definite minority. It doesn't help that we have a shelter that will adopt out dogs with serious "issues". Yep, I'm venting. emoticon

Tonight, I'll be doing a Leslie Sansone. Thank heavens for LS. It's pouring here today!
The birding sounds wonderful. Keep telling us, please! I need a Spring fix!

Yesterday I planned on walking about 2.5 miles, I ended up walking 4.5 miles!! Thought I would be rather sore today, but I'm not!! Also took the furkids for a lot shorter walk today, probably about 1/4-1/2 mile.
