I had a rough week too food-wise. I was off the computer and not able to track as well as usual, and just overloaded on stress and gave in to eating. I know I shouldn't have, but, I did...so now it's time to dust myself off and hop back on the wagon again.

I too was bad this past week. I gained 2.5 pounds due to it, but I am back on track starting today and have learned from my mistake. I wish everyone the best.

Don't worry to much abour it Danyell. Just remember to hit the water to flush your system. And if possible increase your exercise a little bit. Anything you can do to help yourself. And just yell if you need help.

Thank you both. I am not giving up; it is possible it is partly bloating. I have been pregnant/nursing for so many years overall that I am still surprised by things:-) I know weighing in everyday is not the best thing to do, either. Today I hope to do my tape, but I also have a big part of the garden that needs tilling, weeding, hilling, and mulch. If I get all that done it should help. Besides I'll be too bbusy to eat too much. I personally can't understand the ladies that say they are struggling to eat enough. I am always hungry at mealtimes and even before.

how do your pants feel? you can gain and lose inches... muscle stuff... and if you measure you will get a better idea of where you are losing and gaining from inch-wise
Also if its near your period it could be just normal water gain-bloating
Sometimes I find my body takes a week or 2 to reflect the changes I make, on the scale but everyones different just hang in the scales will move

message me if you have any questions... I will try and help you find some answers...

Are you using the nutrition tracker and staying within your ranges for food? If not start doing this because you will learn portion control this way. Also if you are working out at all you will gain some muscle and this weighs more than fat. I hope this helps some.

I just started Sparking this week on Monday. I have really put forth an effort this week. I am in the Firm Believers 10 challenge and have done my tapes; have passed up lots of goodies, drunk my water faithfully and taken my vitamins (important to me), and weighed myself hoping for some positive affirmation from the scales. I gained 2 pounds. I am discouraged to say the least.

I'm not an expert, just someone who's been on the site for a year (and a co-leader)...but, there are some items that are listed specifically on the food tracker as "raw", some as "frozen"...I would assume unless it specifies that you are dealing with a cooked weight.

Question for the experts here:

When logging food do you list the weight cooked or uncooked? I assume with meat it is the cooked weight. Is that also true with other things? Like potatoes, specifically. I mean, how would you judge the weight of a potato you order at a restaurant? It comes cooked, so even if you weighed it, it would be the cooked weight.

Just wondering.

Just an update...I went back and looked at my calories in and out--and it turned out I did NOT eat enough last week. I bumped it up a little the past few days and promptly dropped a pound. Crisis averted!

Thanks for your help!

Jani,

If you are doing significant Strength Training, it is very possible to have a gain instead of a loss. The good news is that you body will eventually catch up, and if it's muscle weight...those muscles will require more fuel which means you'll burn more during exercise and you will see a weight loss. Many people who have had this happen say that when it kicks in you will see a huge drop all at once.

Sounds like you're doing everything right, just keep with it.

You might even find it necessary to bump the calorie intake up just a tad. Just be careful not to bump it too much.

You might want to check into the articles on calorie cycling...and check out the posts below for some additional ideas.

Thanks!

Karen--sorry I hadn't read back in the posts! I was in a rush this morning...Anyway, I do a version of calorie cycling whereby I eat high points two days a week, really low 2 days a week and middle of the road in between. I am wondering if maybe I have not been eating enough since I did not max out my high point days...

Thanks, Debbie, for the reminder. You're right, it has kind of become a hassle. My best week ever was when the kids were on vacation and I just ran around with them, hiking and biking and playing soccer, and I did no "exercise" (formal) at all. So there is something to be said for that.

I weighed in today and lost .4 pounds, which is unacceptable given that I only lost .8 last week. I am usually good for one small loss, then one bigger--I'm frustrated with the tiny losses in a row! But on the bright side, I hit my 10% at WW (I'm way over that, but they don't count it cause I started before I joined...)

Thanks for the advice. I am going to do core for the next week and see where that takes me. Also, going to plan in a couple of days of rest...

Lori,
I am with you. But after talking to a couple people yesterday and this board I discovered something.
Stress will also grind things to a screaching halt. I don't know about you but I think about what I'm doing constantly. The food, the water, the exercise. So for 2 days I am not going to log my food, water or exercise. I still going to watch what I eat and work but I have to relax for a couple days. I have to go back to liking what I'm doing and quit looking at it as a struggle.
I have a friend that said "Everything from the neck up controls everything from the neck down."

HELP! Does anyone know anything about plateaus? My big ol' know-it-all self used to think that when people plateaued it just meant that they had gradually let their program slide and just weren't working it anymore, but that is NOT the case here. I am doing my points (WW) and exercising regularly, basically everything I have been doing. Not stagnant in my exercise, either--something different every day...I do cheat a little with the points, but no more than usual (3 or 4 Hershey kisses a couple nights a week...and I don't eat my activity points so I always figured that covered it...)

I've been stuck in the 170 neighborhood for about a month.

Advice, please!!

Lori

I went to Curves and did my workout and then came home and connected with a new found friend that helped put things back in perspective. So it's back to square one as far as my mind is concerned. It's not a bad thing but a very good thing.

Karen,
Thanks for the tips. I just got Jillian Michaels workout cd's and havent had a chance to start them. I have been walking at 2 miles a day since Feb. so I guess it's time to change things up. I had forgotten about changing things up.
I'll let you know how it works. It's nice to have a place where there are people who have ideas when you want to just throw in the towel and quit. emoticon

Debbie you can up your calorie range, but I would not go to high. A couple of days stay at the low range and then go to the high range. Also if you are doing the same exercises over and over again your body gets used to it and it does you no good. We walk all the time so if you want to work the legs we need to really push it to make a difference. The same applies to the rest of our body. Try adding more weights, change the routine, change the order you do the exercises. Try some workout videos for cardio. I hope this helps. If I can help in any other way please let me know.

Sending up a SOS and a MAYDAY MAYDAY. I know I'm not alone when I say that I've been working out and watching what I eat since Jan. I joined SP in April. I have only lost 12lbs since Jan. The tape measure has even stopped moving. I've been tracking everything. I have managed to up the water to almost 96oz/12glasses a day. I know about turning fat into muscle.

We've checked my thyroid and it's normal. Checked my blood sugar levels and they are normal.

My coach at Curves suggested upping my calorie intake a couple of days and then dropping back down. Does this sound crazy to anyone. I was doing 1600 dropped to 1200 for 2 wks and now back to 1200-1400.

I don't want to stress on this but so many others this is where I usually stop. Any suggestions????????

Well, I don't know the exact reason why your losses have slowed down but we can narrow them down. Last year I lost 26 lbs doing Weight Watchers online. I quit WW because it was getting too expensive for my check book. I gained 9 lbs back out of the 26lbs which put me at my current weight. Now, what I'm told is every time you quit it gets harder to loose the weight because you interfere with metablism. Also you want to use all your calories and increase your strengh training. (my big downfall)Water, water, water. Did I say water? That's my take on it. But you guys look great. Don't sweat it.

Wow! You know I can fully understand your frustrating (my SOS is right below yours! ha!) but I'm majorly inspired by your losses so far! WOW! And 3 hours a day of working out... I can't even imagine. No wonder you're frustrated! I'll eagerly read the responses to both of our posts. Don't you dare give up! You've come way, way too far!

Hi Guys,

I've reached the point emotionally that I need to send up an "SOS." Lately, as on track as I've been feeling and on point as I've been eating and exercising, I'm also feeling pretty blue about how slow I'm loosing. I know it's the best way. I know I'm toning up and loosing inches (though even that is painfully slow). I know this is the way I'll keep it off in the long run. But its just so frustrating to work my tush off in the gym (burning almost 400 cals in 35 mins on the elliptical and strength training a few times a week - still workin' on that one), I'm watching everything I eat and staying within my ranges. I'm doing this right.

I've always lost slowly, always, with my normal being .5 a week with the occasional loss of a full 1 or 2 lbs. I find myself worrying if my ranges are correct, should I eat on the low end or am I not eating enough and throwing my body into starvation mode? Do I need to work out more or eat more? Am I doing something wrong or is this just the way my body is???

This is why I've given up in the past. Without a doubt, this is the reason. I loose 10 - 15 pounds (usually on the 10 side) and then get frustrated with working so hard and seeing so little change that I give in and give up.

SOS team... SOS...

I may be one of the leaders, but, I'm just a team mate. I joined this team for the support and kind of inherited it so I recruited other members to help me keep up with it because we are growing by leaps and bounds.

Glad you figured all that stuff out. If you don't understand something, don't be afraid to ask. I promise we won't laugh (at least not too loud -- only kidding!)

Have fun!

BRN2PRZ62; if you've significantly increased your exercise you might not be eating enough. And while you have your monthly you have more of a tendency to retain water. But, you also burn an extra 500 calories (so I've been told)...so right afterward you should have a nice drop.

If you're eating within your recommended calorie range, give it a little time for your body to adjust and things should move. Also remember to measure. The tape measure will show progress sometimes when the scale is laughing at you. And you can always treat the scale like a toddler having a temper tantrum -- ignore it for a while until it behaves better!

When you hit the save button it should take you back to the search screen with your item in the window. When you select it to put it into your meal planner there should be a little box right under where you say which meal you're eating it for. Click that box to add it to your favorites. Then the next time you have it, go to the "Favorites" tab and select the food.

What is my scale's problem???? I have done 30 minutes of aerobice 6 days a week and 30 minutes of strenght training twice a week for the last 2 1/2 weeks and my scale is laughing at me

emoticon

My monthly has come during this time but I used to lose weight even during that time. I know I'm getting older but does that mean the weight is going to take forever to come off.

Can anybody help me out here????

2 oz uncooked. It's about 1/2 cup cooked. 1 box of spaghetti makes 8 servings. So you get 1/8 of the box.

When pasta says 2 oz is a serving for 220 calories is that cooked or uncooked? It really doesn't say. Thanks for the help.
