I'm in. I was just thinking the other day to make it one of my goals to lose 20 pounds by the end of the year. I plan to be better about tracking my food intake and go back to doing cardio 5 days a week and strength training 4 days a week.

Today I got up at 7:30 and dressed for working out. Always a good start to get me exercise. I won't go anywhere in my outfit. I ate a yogurt to get a little nutrition. I did a 15 min workout tape called Basic Workout Plus and then I did a 4 mile Leslie Sansone Fast And Firm. Several people at work use her tapes so I bought one.

We have an 80th birthday party to attend, my FIL's. I read the bikini diet today so I am going to aim to picture that in my head and not go back for any second servings.

I need to face this challenge with an open mind and plans to succeed.

I'm in!! I'm the same way. I have a hard time sticking to a program. If I have a bad day, I say, "I will get back on track tomorrow" and when tomorrow comes it is hard to get motivated again. I also have a problem exercising. Any tips would be great for both.

I would love to lose 20 by 2010! Even if I only get close.. It will be step in the right direction. I need some discipline, hubby is jumping on board with me this time as well. With being sick for a month it has really made me lazy. Time to get the groove back!

Hi all! Hope everyone is as motivated as I am for this challenge. What has been working for me is pretty simple. I use the Wii my fitness coach game almost exclusively for 45 - 60 minutes 4 days per week. I will occassionally throw in a Firm workout video or Powerfit video just to change it up a bit. This past week I had 2 days that I did my ususal routine in the am and then walked for 3 miles in the evening and it really has impacted my weight loss. I lost 3 pounds since Monday! I drink at least 8 cups of water a day and sometimes more. I have been guilty this week of having a couple bad late night snacks but was still in my calorie range. Probably didn't impact me too much because of all the extra exercise I've been doing. Cheers to all of us for accepting this challenge!

Think positive and don't quit on yourself!

Oh, I just want to say to everyone about to start their weekend: the TV is a timewaster, especially on the weekends. Try music, and just get moving. I have found for me personally that when I turn the TV on a lot of my goals have fallen by the wasteside. My son (12 Yrs old) would much rather play a board/card game w/me or go on a walk w/me then watch TV w/me. A couple of weeks ago he and I went on a walk for about 2 miles. We talked, we disagreed (puberty is no fun) but we had fun together and we both got exercise.

I hope this was helpful to others out there.

Walked 25 minutes with the kids and dogs. Kept up my pace on the hills today! Drank most my water today. Passed up donuts in the staff room. Need to get to the produce stand and stock back up on fruits and veggies, we will be in town tomorrow. Made easy crock pot black bean soup yesterday.

Did not do the 30 additional exercise or strength training today. Too much running around this evening with the kids. Tomorrow I will be walking around most of the day and will make up what was not done today.

I find that getting started on drinking my water early in the day works for me. If I wait until too late in the day, I end up craving "something", and grazing all day... not really figuring out that what I'm craving is WATER and not any particular food.

Have a great day everyone!

The time to do this is now - not tomorrow, not next week, not next month. Now.

I've only been here for about 6 weeks, but here's what has worked for me so far...... Tracking my food, every day and staying within my calorie range. Getting up an hour early every day to work out first thing in the morning, before I get caught up in the day and get too busy to fit it in. I try 2 or 3 spark recipes every week, and have entered some of my own recipes to calculate nutritional values. This has also helped me to make some changes to my favorites to make them healthier. Last , but not least, I log into spark every day. I read articles, read blogs, read messages, post on message boards, and basically find and offer support anywhere and everywhere I can. So far it's working. I've lost almost 10 lbs in just over a month. This challenge is just what I need to keep me motivated!!

the lose 20 by 2010 is a great idea. i find that using the nutrition tracker for all my food, keeping within my calorie limits and walking fast 60 mins for 6 days/week is working out. i've cut out all sugar and all white processed foods. my go to snack is celery and light laughing cow cheese or carrots and hummus. nothing fabulous but when you diet it's not doritos and beer. also, reading the motivational stories keeps me inspired.

I'm having a tough time getting back moving, after being offline for two months. I had to drop my gym membership for financial reasons, so can't count on that anymore. And I just haven't been able to make myself get started walking to work again now that the beautiful cool fall weather is here. Monday morning, I promise! (Unless the big D strikes again, like it did this week)

In the meantime, I'm picking up more on my strength training, a lot of which I can do at intervals at work. I know Spark doesn't like us to do two days in a row, so I'm setting my own workouts, scheduling a different section of the body each day, core one day, then upper body, then lower, so the muscles don't get damaged by trying to do too much. I'm hoping it will get me motivated to do more and get back into the cardio, which is, of course, what I really need to do to feed the weight loss.

Work out goals to keep e going are going to be hard. I work midnight shift, so I usually don't get up until 2 or 3 pm and then kids are home from school. So my plan is:

Portion control
Drinking lots of water ( no problem there)
Walking a least 1 to 2 miles daily
Exercise videos at least 3 days a week

Wish me luck!

Been sparking since May 09. I've lost 44 lbs so far. Another 20 by 2010 would put me more than 1/2 way to my goal of 100 by May 2010.
My routine:
1. I put everything that goes into my mouth on the nutrition tracker. I do it before dinner (so I know how many calories I have left to eat) and in the evening.
2. Drink 8-9 glasses h2o each day.
3. Gave up diet soda. Diet Coke was my life. But I've found that the caffeine and sodium and chemicals really held me back from losing weight. So just water, ice tea (decaf) and milk for the most part.
4. I am not spending any money this time. No extra charges to lose weight.
5. Exercise - I started with 10 minutes cardio in the am before work. Now I'm up to 30 min cardio before work. I take one day off (usualy Sunday). I started with the free spark 10 min videos and now I do the free Comcast on-demand exercise tv videos. Usually Jillian Michaels or Biggest Loser. On Sat. I will do 60 min in the am. M/W/F I do the sparkpeople strenght training program at home.

In the evening I try to walk/jog for at least 30 mins. I am working on the c25k program.

6. I do not deprive myself. I will take a bite of something if I want it but only a bite.
7. Fudgsicles - No Sugar Added (40 cals each) are my go to indulgence. I probably could not get through my gift from mother nature without them. I can have 2 if I want with no guilt.
8. Trying to get enough sleep.

This is what I'm going to work on:

1. Get my head on straight
2. Get out and start walking - min 10,000 steps daily
3. Start journaling my food daily
4. Start drinking water
5. Get to the gym to get variety into my workout

BONUS: would be to find a program where I can be pushed to my limits.

Wow! All of you are so much more dedicated than I am. I am trying to stick to the plan and make healthy choices when I have to make a change. I do go to my tae kwon do classes 4 days/week. Now that my shins are getting better, I will start walking again, slower, and back to kickboxing on Monday. My weakness is my wine on the weekends. It is the only time I see my hubby and we just like our wine. I started weighing myself on Mondays, so that should help keep me in line a little. We'll see, I'm just not giving up this time. Lucky for me, I carry my weight well, so when (not if) I lose 20 pounds, it will look like more.

Deanna - I'm sorry things are so hard for you right now. Coupons, try those, my hubby saves us a fortune that way. I hope things get better soon.

Have a great weekend everyone!

What's been working for me thus far is walking every other day for 30 minutes, doing my own circuit training routine for approximately 45-60 minutes a day--3-4 times a week! My hardest thing to do is get in the nutrition my body needs!! This is due to low (and I mean really low) finances!! We can barely pay all of our bills (including our rent) let alone keep ANY food in the house!!! We have to use all of the local food banks and most of what they give out really isn't all that good for a person!!! So, some days I don't eat much of anything!!
What can you do?? Only what you have available to you!

I was doing real good first 2 weeks on SP but this last week haven't lost any more. I am going to go back to making sure I eat some kind of protein for breakfast and get back on track with my exercises. I have been walking 2 miles 4x a week, either gym or Wii exercises, limiting caffiene to one or two a day (down from 8 dt dr peppers a day). Drink at least 1 1/2 gal. water a day, and watch food intake. I have pretty much cut out sugar. This weekend will be hardest - going out of town.

I do cardio, the recumbent bike; it's the one that leans back for us who have bad backs. I started at 10 minutes at a time and worked up to 60 minutes over a month and a half. I stay at the low resistance level 1-2 and add time instead of going faster or up the resistance level. I would rather do 60 minutes at level 2 than only 30 minutes at level 3 or 4, everyone has their own preference. I believe the length of time you do cardio is more important than how fast you go.

I also do water aerobics in the pool for about 30-45 minutes and float around to relax my muscles after working out.

I do those two basically on the days I go to the gym and I usually go 3-5x a week. Some days I also do strength exercises on the machines. I do try to let my muscles rest for a day or two in between the days I do the machines.

And one thing to remember, I don't rely on the scale and the number of pounds I loose as much as the measuring tape. One month I lost 11 lbs but I didn't measure with the tape because I was satisfied with the weight I lost.

The next month I only lost 4 lbs and was a little disappointed so I got out the measuring tape. I had lost 7.5 inches!!! I was THRILLED!!! So now to me the number of inches is how I measure success. Everyone has their own way, that's my way.

Good luck to everyone, I will definitely need support on this end too.

I've been on this track for two weeks, but I'll share with you guys what is working for me!
20 things I'm doing to lose 20 lbs!

1. NO MORE Steroids...I'm in remission!
2. Drinking 1/2 my body weight in oz's of water per day or more!
3. Counting Cal/Fat and staying with in min. range!
4. 60 min. of cardio a day (Wii Fit Aerobic's). If energy level is high that day I will add another 30+ min. (this has only happened 4 times).
5. 15 - 30 min. strength training (Wii Fit).
6. 15 - 30 min. of Yoga (Wii Fit).
7. Only one caffinee drink a day (if needed).
8. Allow myself something choc/sweet every 2-3 days(this helps me not have a melt down and pig out by allowing myself a little something every few days).

We have switched to ground turkey and 1% milk and non-fat sour cream. These are the biggest changes we have made so far. The way we are planning on losing the 20 by 2010 is to go on a taco salad diet. If you enjoy taco salads then this might be a great salad for you. It is only 550 cal and it is huge.

You start off with 3-4 cups of salad mix or cut up lettuce in a bowl. Then you put on 1/4 c shredded cheese(check the labels some cheese have more cal then others, I have found out in the last couple of weeks.) Then you add 1oz of tortilla chips, then 2 oz of ground turkey(seasoned with taco seasoning), 1oz of non fat sour cream and then 60 grams of salsa.
It is a great salad and very filling. I can have 1000 cal for dinner and often I don't eat that much because the salad is so filling.

I am new to the SparkTeam, but I have been dieting and exercising since April. I started at 325lbs and I am now 283 lbs. I recently joined a gym where I do cardio, weight training, and yoga. I work out 6 to 7 days a week. I try to drink plenty of water and I limit myself to one diet coke a day. I start off the day with two scrambled eggs. I have a piece of fruit with string cheese for a snack. I eat a piece of fruit with about 6 ounces of chicken for lunch, a piece of fruit for an afternoon snack, and a lean meat and veggie for dinner.

My current routine is:

- At least 32 minutes of elliptical in the morning before work 4-5 days a week. I try to fit in 2 of the 10 minute SparkPeople Cardio video's in on the weekend.

- I have been dabbling in strength training. I have been doing some sit-ups (various kinds) and push-ups.

- I have been trying hard to stay within my calorie range. Posting all meals on the SP Nutrition Tracker has been helping a lot.
The food plan I am using is a combination of SparkPeople and The Biggest Loser 30 day Jump Start.

- I try to get my 8 glasses of water in everyday.

I have lost 3 lbs over the last 2 weeks and 1" off of my waist. 3 lbs may seem small, but this is an accomplishment for me right now. I had been on a horrible cycle of losing 1 or 2 lbs one week and the next week putting them right back on again for months now. So, to lose 2 weeks in a row makes me happy.

I plan to fit some more cardio in during the week and work some more on strength training.

I would really love to hit, or at least be close to my goal weight by my birthday in February. This is going to be a great start.

I am going to cut out "sweets" on doctor's orders - I have been sneaking more into my meals, eating more calories than recommended and my A1C was up and my weight loss has stopped. I am also adding strength training.

I always start with a filling breakfast. I combine egg beaters with mushrooms, fresh spinach, bell peppers, onions and tomatoes into a great tasting veggie omelette. This keeps me full until lunch time.
I have been working out 4 times a week, but I recently discovered Zumba and have added two sessions per week. This is a fun cardio workout that I really enjoy. I removed soft drinks all together and replaced it with water. I add some fresh lemon slices for flavor. The idea of dropping 20 pounds is wonderful and I try to picture myself wearing something new and fabulous for the New Year!

I had started out at 195 lbs and as of today I'm down to 165 (even with going on vacation last week). The last 20 lbs by 2010 is a terrific goal!! I'm going to continue working 3-5 times per week with my Kathy Smith Fat Burning 40-min Exercise Tape (or riding my daughters bike for 30-45 mins) and all the sit-ups/crunches and leg lifts/lying abstractions, etc and the other strength building exercises that I've learned from this website. I'm going to continue working with Nutrition Tracker and drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day. This has worked awesome for me! emoticon

I do great with the water, so I'll make sure to keep doing that. I went to the gym this a.m. andliked the one weekend challenge so well, that I'm trying to encorporate it into my weekends; so I'll do the 100 wall push ups today, the 100 crunches tomorrow, and then something for myself on Sunday!
