I agree. Stick with soups and salads.

Hi There,

I am new to this team and wanted to share something that I learned while involved with Weight Watchers. There is an eating out guide that I have used that lists the nutritional values in restaurant foods. I am including the link and hope you all will get as much from it as I have. I have included the Canadian food listing, but if you enter this site you will also find the US listings.

Cheers!

I have lost 74 pounds since July 2009. I do eat out at least once or twice a week. I usally order a salad (sometimes with a small portion of steak or grilled chicken on it). I happen to like salads so eating one frequently has not been a sacrifice. To make salads a "legal" option for me, I take along 1.5 oz portion-control packets of Marzetti fat-free salad dressing. (One restaurant I go to actually offers this dressing as a choice.) I simply take a packet or two with me to any other restaurant I go to. The fat-free ranch tastes great and helps to keep my salad "healthy". I order this dressing online and use on all my salads. It is very convenient and has heped me avoid the fat-filled, calorie laden regular salad dressings.

I have noticed that when I go out to eat frequently in a week I rarely lose any weight. I think part of my problem may be that I go to ethnic restaurants (indian, thai, etc.) and it is really hard to get a good calorie count for the various dishes.

Anyone have a place that they get fairly reliable counts for that type of food. (The nutrition counter here tends to be all over the place for the same dish.)

We tend to eat out often, and it can be challenging. The strategy that works best for me is to stick with soups & salads. I usually order a cup of a non-creamed soup and a salad with dressing on the side. I also check the nutrition information, if available, before we go out, to see if there is a meal that I would like that fits into my calorie range for the day. If I know I'm going out for dinner, I cut back during the day and have a Lean Cuisine or something I know the exact portion/calorie count of for lunch/dinner.
