I'm still working on strengthing my leg and ankle. It's been a battle.

I don't think I'm strong enough for the 5K yet but I'm on my way.

I'm supposed to walk an actual 5K fundraiser next month and I'm hoping to be able to do it.

Thanks to everyone involved in this challenge!

HOPE: Holding On, Praying Earnestly...from Guidepost Magazine

I'm working my way back to the size I want to be.
On a journey for strength and good health.

One positive effect from not being able to get online or watch cable TV all week last week.... I logged 10 miles in walking!!!

My actual 5K time is at the moment 70 minutes .....hills included.

My goal is to keep improving on that time to the point I can finish it in les than an hour then make it a three time a week 'long walk' in the mornings before my day gets crazy!

You sound like me but my pedometer was my husband's and the steps yeaterday were very many according to it and I asked him what is wrong with this pedometer. He checked the setting and said this is mine you have to three times or somethings for I do bigger steps then you. 2785 times 3 = 8355 for 3/18/11. Just not doing the 10000. I sure feel I am.

This is going to be a big walking day...i.e.....I am cooking and serving a charity lunch and dinner. I will be walking around the big kitchen at the hall and setting up tables and serving. Should be on feet all day. Do those kind of steps count?

I've never been a big fan of treadmills either. My daughter had one and sold it because she said it was to boring to use and it was just taking up space.

I got out today and walked about a mile so its a start!

Yes, it is so good to be walking have to say I don't do it in the cold weather too much but can do it on a treadmill.....I think it takes longer on a treadmill for when I can go out and walk I can walk a mile in 15 minutes...Hey,,,that is a rollie coaster roads too ....high hill down hill up again ...I do have to be careful out there for cars just don't care...

Good-Morning Mary!

Since you are already able to walk 2 miles at a time the 5K training is going to be a great way for you to get your cardio in! emoticon

I WAS walking up to 4 miles a day before Thanksgiving, but then holidays and cold weather hit and I got lazy .....Started back walking over the weekend and this morning have already been out for the neighborhood 'block' about 1 mile.... emoticon YES- feels good to be back out and moving my fanny again!

Flowering pear trees, forsythia bushes, daffodils and other early birds and blooms to enjoy!
Spring has Sprung in Georgia!!

Have a great day!
Debbie

The idea is to walk/ run at least 3 days a week with a goal to 'train' for our 'virtual race' at the end of Aprl ...so what you want to do is come up with a walk or runnning 'training plan'...the link will take you to the various training plans Sparkspeople has or you can simply walk/ run whatever schedule you feel works for you...

Post daily and or weekly progress here and we will have a group 'race day' at the end of April..did that make it clearer or do I have you really confused now??

* Ideally you will plan on walking or running SOME almost every day between now and the end of April...but not necessarily 3 miles a day unless you just feel up to walking that much daily???

I don't understand--- I want to join ..but do I go 3 miles just one day for the month of April or is it 3 miles = 5K every week in April meaning I have to go 5K once a week. emoticon

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Spring is knocking on the door and it is time to get outside and start getting ready for shedding those winter bulky sweatsuits, sweaters and coats that hide the other 'extra' insulation we may or may not have been dropping this winter....

Many of you did an amazing job in the Heart healthy challenge to keep moving and getting the walks/ runs in for cardio each day weither it was counting steps/ walking away the pounds to a DVD or using a treadmill or some other plan of action you did it and are 'warmed up' .... emoticon

Let's take advantage of the Springtime weather and strive to set some Personal Records for steps or miles walked and/ or ran during March & April by training for and COMPLETING a...

5K YOUR WAY!

5K = 3.1 miles and since you can do it YOUR WAY that means you can walk it run it or use a combination!

You can complete a 5K at home on the treadmill, walking away the pounds to a DVD or

Even counting steps on a pedometer .....!

SparkPeople even has several AWESOME program choices in their
'Sparkpeople's 5K YOUR WAY Running Program ...yes, they have a walking option as well!

Here's the link:
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/training
-p
lans.asp

So go ahead and take a look at the plans ...you will see they range from 5-8 weeks of 'training and that's why we are making this a 2 month challenge!

Post here what YOUR plan/ goal is and then post your progress daily or at least weekly and let us know how it is going!

The last week in APRIL we will have a 'virtual 5K' ...and award prizes and surprises to the top 3 finishers and recognition to EVERYONE who posts to the thread on a regular basis!!

Are YOU Ready for a 5K YOUR WAY?
