My brother had to have a kidney removed yesterday. We were a little worried. I had lost 2 brothers last year to cancer. A lot of prayers went out for him. The Doctor said he did great, and should get to go home this weekend.

Well, I've just come to the end of another 3-week block and I had 3 RED days.
However, they were very small RED events:

(1) 1 serving of sorbet
(2) 2 cookies
(3) 8 ryvita crispbreads with vegan 'butter'

Which isn't bad at all really. I'm pleased with that to be honest. And considering I work with people who graze through the day on cakes, cookies and chocolate, and support people who eat fries, pizzas and cheesecakes (!) I do really well to stick to my packed lunch and tea!

I made it thru Bobby's birthday yesterday. I did a flower arrangement and took it to his grave, also did a flower arrangement and gave to one of his friends at the nursing home, she thought of Bobby as her little brother.

(1) RED on Day 2 - was a small pot of sorbet in the afternoon after a 3 hr walk. I was waiting for a bus in the rain and wasn't able to get a cup of tea......... it wasn't the end of the world.
(2) RED on Day 8 - was two ginger cookies at work in the evening. Luckily there WERE only two there! I was tired and hadn't been able to have my meal break. I might consider protein bars for evening shifts when meal breaks can be lost to the demands of work; something I can eat from my pocket, so to speak!
(3) RED on Day 19 - was Ryvita and vegan spread in the evening; I'd had my dinner at work at 3.30pm and then just really 'wanted' something crunchy when I got home.

Well! SIX RED DAYS in the past 19 days, so that's a pretty duff 21-day streak in my book. I'm going to start another 21 days on Monday and try harder to make sure I plan meals that will sustain me nutritionally and emotionally.

(1) the RED on day 2 was picking at roasted, salted peanuts whilst making dinner - whoops!
(2) the RED on day 8 was eating oatcake cookies mid-morning, and potato chips mid-afternoon - due to not having adequate breakfast or lunch meals.
(3) the RED on day 15 was a handful of wine gums at 8.30 pm at work - pinched from someone else's candy stash (I was hungry, but could have filled up with tea/coffee/water)
(4) the RED on day 16 - well, I really lost it today! I had a cookie with coffee mid-morning because I was sitting with someone I was supporting who was eating brunch. Then I had THREE Snickers bars during the day. Then in the evening, instead of my planned soup, I had cream crackers and vegan butter......... not a good eating day - I really did just kind of lose it today.
(5) the RED on day 18 was an evening binge on rice cakes after not getting home in time for my planned ELD. Darn it! I've been a bit 'off' this time around.
(6) the RED on day 19 was chocolate ginger cookies with my lunch

Reflection - that was a pretty dumb three weeks really................ I think a crack in my habit is that I'm not planning my meals well enough in advance. I'll remedy that.

(1) the RED on Day 9 was complicated! I had eaten lunch early because of work - the person I was supporting to go out from 11 am to 2 pm. So I ate my lunch just before 11 am. (I'd had breakfast early too - because of work - at about 6 am). When I was out with her, at about 1 pm, she wanted lunch out - and I had a cup of tea and a cheese scone. I could only eat half as I wasn't really hungry, but I had the other half about an hour later. So it was like a snack really - or two snacks which I didn't need!)

(2) the RED on Day 16 was not really 'bad' but it was an extra mini-meal. I didn't have enough for breakfast, so ate my packed lunch at 11 am. Which meant I needed something else about 3 pm - so I bought a small mixed salad box from a local organic store. Effectively, I had 4 meals today instead of 3. None of it was junk though - which was really good!

(3) the RED on Day 17 was a little bit of raw chocolate after my dinner - after listening to the political chaos on the news!

(4) the RED on Day 18 was sharing a small slice of lemon polenta cake with a friend over tea in the afternoon - it was small, it was 'necessary' and 'appropriate' - it wasn't a big transgression.

(5) the RED on Day 19 was four meals because I had to wait until 7 pm for my dinner (going out) whereas I usually eat at around 5 pm - so I got starving and had to eat something at 5.30 pm (it was 4 crispbreads with Marmite on 2, and peanut butter on 2)

ending with two S days - that's my 21 days done again - five REDs - none of them too bad really - but five REDs nonetheless!

I'll be starting a new 21-day streak on Monday. Last one had four reds: one was just an apple mid-afternoon; another was ONE cookie when having coffee at a friend's house - those both very small, and didn't tip me over into more eating off-plan. I'm pleased about that.

Then I had two red days which were related to physical discomfort - one eating sweets on the bus after getting drenched in the rain; one eating chocolate after a 10 km race.

I feel like I've made a lot of progress.

I totally threw the rules out the window this evening - I went to a 10 k trail run, picked up some chocolate Minstrels on the way and ate them all. Came home afterwards and had toast and tea.

I guess it was kind of a 'special' day - perhaps one of my 's' things are 'sports'!

On the 100 Days of Weight Loss team we are often asked to consider other ways to meet our needs apart from food.

(1) red on Day 3 was an apple mid-afternoon (it had been packed as part of my lunch, but I didn't eat it at lunch. In the afternoon I was in a car for 2 hrs and the people with me were eating sweets. The apple was a good choice. But it was still, technically, a SNACK. I'm not beating myself up, but I am recording it.
(2) red on Day 5 was one ginger oat cookie when having coffee with a friend
(3) red on Day 8 was a REAL RED one! I ate sweets during the afternoon whilst I was travelling on a bus (having got very wet in the rain)
(4) red on Day 9 was almost an S day- I did a 10k run and ate chocolate
(5) yellow on day 19 was eating a Magnum with a friend whose partner has just been diagnosed with un-operable cancer....... it was a special day

(3) red on Day 12 was ice-cream in the afternoon emoticon then snack food instead of dinner! It was a lovely day out though!
(4) red on Day 16 was evening snacking emoticon
(5) red on Day 17 was sweet things, including ice-cream! emoticon with my third meal of the day

This wasn't a bad 21-days really - the reds were mostly ice-creams and my choice - rather than a reckless craving or a difficult situation where I caved in. I feel OK about it. However my weight is settling a couple of pounds higher than I'd like it to be. So - it's up to me!

This week (the last weekend of the 21 days) I had a weekend with NO CHOCOLATE at all! That's a first! Also, my ice-creams are now single scoops of vanilla - I've removed the novelty factor from them!
