I joined the better sleep challenge as I have some sleeping issues. I do feel alert during the day but I tend to wake before my alarm (sometimes hours early) and then can not go back to sleep. My goals are to change some of my sleep habbits and improve my sleep. I think I will start out with a week of no tv before bed, although falling asleep does not ever seem to be my problem. I also am going to perhaps consider my alarm and pusue one with a working battery back up and turn the clock away from my view...hoping for a more restful night!

I have only one goal - 7 hours of sleep.

Simply contemplating this goal freaks me out a bit. I get up at 5:30 for work every day. To get 7 hours of sleep I need to be in bed by 10:30. For me that feels like the equivalent of going to bed at 7pm. I feel like I'm losing important time. Sometimes I work, sometimes it's just 'me' time. Either way I feel panicky about committing to such an early bedtime. I've always said that I'm a morning person and a night owl. If I could sleep between 3pm and 9pm it would feel ideal and I'm quite sure that's not a healthy outlook.

So, that's it. Seven hours of sleep challenge starts this evening.

I do my share of padding into thebathroom too. Drinking my 8cups a day makes me feel so better that the nocturnal disruption is an acceptable trade-off. Good luck to you while the guests are with you.

We turned the tv off before ten. I washed my face, brushed my teeth and crawled into bed. I read from my current book,( not anything that would get me anxious or excited to read more) and the light went out at ten. I still woke up twice during the night. It's all that water I am drinking! But, I went right back to sleep after getting up. Next thing I knew was the alarm going off at 5:30am! I will work on that again tonight. I have company so, it's a little hard to do because I enjoy being with them so much.

Hey, I got 7 hours sleep last night! Don't know what I did different:

1. Watched some TV.
2. Turned TV off at 10 p.m.
3. Turned sound machine on. Now to Crickets chirping.
4. Got awake; went to bathroom.
5. Realized it was 5 a.m.; my time to get awake!

WILL REPEAT AGAIN TONIGHT!

Just joining the challenge today!

My goals are:
1. Keep sleep journal
2. Get ready for bed by 9:30PM
2. Be in bed by 10:30 every night. Getting there is my biggest problem since I like to be a night owl but work during the day!
3. Get up after only one snooze on the alarm.

My goal is to get 7 hours sleep a night 5 out of 7 days and to keep a sleep journal.

I fall asleep easy enough, but wake up 2 to 4 times a night and sometimes can't go back to sleep for an hour or two. This week I made it 4 days and last week only 3.

My goal is to get to bed no later then 9PM every night and get at least 8 hours of sleep. I have a 17 month old son whom is teething and wakes up at odd hours of the night half asleep. I wake up at 5AM to work out and then I have my two older daughters to get ready for summer camp and myself for work. Somethings are a challenge but I am willing to work on this. My body needs it.

My goal is to get to bed by 11:00 pm and get 8 hours sleep. My problem is I fight sleep in the evening because this is when I finally have time to myself and think I have too many things I want to do. Need to learn to shut off the brain and just let sleep happen.

This is certainly going to be challenging!
Sleep between 10:15 and 10:30, wake up between 6-6:30 AM
Sleep without any phones on my bed (Phones should be on silent)
No checking phones/internet or anything bright in the middle of the night when I wake up
Getting out of bed within 5 minutes of waking up in the morning.

My goal is to commit to a bedtime routine with my husband and daughter. I would like to start our routine at 9pm by shutting off the TV and going into the bedroom, feed her, read some books, and put her to sleep. My insomnia mainly started when I was off work for 5 weeks due to an injury. I got bored, then depressed and couldn't sleep. Would finally go to sleep at 4 or 5 am then stay in bed looking at the ceiling until noon. Since I went back to work I have not been able to change this adopted habit. I work 3pm to 11pm so I'm up late every night to begin with. My goal is to start off getting 5 straight hours of sleep then work my way up to 7 hours nightly. Though I am not sure what to do to get that ball rolling.

I can do this because I AM WORTH IT

Can you not put the coffee pot on to a timer? Getting up and going back to bed is pretty hard on you. I use to do it, waking the kids up for school, then back to bed. But since I stopped going back to bed, I'm much better.
I have a crock pot I put old fashioned oats in and have a timer to turn it on so it's ready when they get up. I still have to get them up. But I don't have to get up 3 hours earlier to turn on the crock pot, lol.

My goal is to sleep. Yes I know that's kind of basic, but I chronicly suffer from all three types of insomnia, and have for over 24 years. I am on so many sleeping meds it's not funny, and I am still lucky if I get more than 4 hours of broken sleep a night. I got a prefect score on the quiz, and yes I do implimant sleep hygiene, and have a sleep journal. I have had sleep studies done, been a part of the sleep wellness clinic, had a sleep specialist. I do not know where to go next. They put me on medication, but over the years they needed to add more and more.
If I do not take my medications I do not sleep. Period. I have gone weeks with no sleep, then I start seeing dancing street lights, and other freaky stuff. So they give me med I sleep for 24 hours and all back to the beginning. Although its been a few years since I did that. Because I don't go without my meds very often.
Last month I went to my eldest sons, and didnt take my meds on purpose, so I could stay up with the newborn colicky baby and let mom and dad get some sleep. I did this every other night while there, never needed a nap, just pretended it was one very long day. For 3 weeks.
I want to be off the meds. I want to sleep on my own. Do you know how hard it is to go to bed, take you pills, and lay there for 2 hours waiting for sleep, then your husband comes to bed, and as soon as his head hits the pillow, pow he's out. No we don't go to bed together on purpose, because if I happen to get to sleep before he gets there, I sleep better. Which is about 50% of the time now. I know it's not his fault, but I resent the way he can sleep like that. I get upset when he takes a nap in the day, because I can't.
I am on the max dose of 3 differant perscription sleep medications, and one over the counter (per doctor instruction). I would be happy to cut out some of them, or sleep 4 solid hours with them I don't care which. I really do not want to add anymore.
I eat very clean, and exercise daily to wear myself out. No caffeine at all. Very little sugar, i do not eat after dinner which is usually around 6ish. I only drink water. i go to bed at 10 every night, i take my meds at 9:30. I have lost 72pounds since January, reversed my diabetes, thyroid meds lowered, but yet sleep still evades me. I still have 40 pounds to go.
Ok so I need to set a goal. Ultimately to sleep without meds. But that's going to take a while, so lets start with sleeping with them. My goal is to sleep for 4 solid hours and any more broken is bonus. This week. Any advice for me?

I'm joining this group challenge to get at least 7 hours of sleep. I seem to average about 5-6 hours. I go to sleep when I hit the pillow, but when I wake up to go to the bathroom, sometimes I can't go back to sleep again. I sometimes wake around 3 or 4 am. I would like to at least sleep to 5:30 when my hubby has to get ready for work.

Bed by 10:00 pm, up at 5:30 am

after looking over my patterns for the first week, I realize that I am not getting to bed at the time I set for myself. I also get heartburn most nights because we eat dinner so late so the time I eat will have to change..or what I eat. I have kickboxing 2 nights a week which messes with my dinner time but I'll figure something out. Also, my husband and I have a ritual where I get up at 5am to make him coffee and then I head back to bed! don't know if I want to change that...I'll see if some of my other changes will do the trick! Good luck to those of you on your first week!

My goals for getting better sleep are determining the correct time of night to take my meds, such that they will help me get to sleep, but not too early and not too late. Quite the balancing game. I have also noticed that listening to relaxing sounds or music when going to bed, and then letting it fade out after about 45 minutes, help me fall into a good, deep sleep. So this is something I want to continue doing. And lastly, I also discovered that taking a shower before bed really relaxes me, so I'll be switching from morning to evening.

It's a combination of things. I have a small hiatal hernia, which can cause frequent acid reflux, which can be worse when you lie down. I was waking to go to the bathroom frequently as well. I stopped eating or drinking anything for three hours before sleep. That helped some. I also have a lot of arthritis and sometimes I wake up with the pain/numbness. It helps to use my traction right before bed. My husband snores very loudly and I was trying to get him to see a doctor about it, but for now he is sleeping in another room. We probably both sleep better because I kept poking him to get him to sleep on his side. We are all unique, so you have to be a detective and figure out what works for you.
