I know how frustrating HMO's can be, I have a friend battling cancer and it is terrible the delays he has had getting treatment because of the insurance. I while do some stairs with my walking shoes on and see how they feel. I am told by my Doc that there is some bone loss hence the ortho. I know in my regular shoes stairs most of the time bother me. I use to walk them when I worked at Loma Linda hospital and what a great workout.

I have "bad" knees too, and at this rate, I'll never get in to see a ortho with my stinking HMO woes. My knee has never bothered me when I've run stairs at work before.

I just plan to really work on my calves, feet and other leg muscles in the coming months. I'll also prepare with stair climbing on my lunch break in my building and using the stepmill at the gym.

That would be a good climb for sure, do not think my knees will make it. I am seeing an Ortho Dr next week I will see what he says.

It says you can set your own "team goal" but they are pretty firm on the $100 per person.

Each person pays $25 to register.

Here is a portion of their FAQs -

Is There a Fundraising Minimum?

Yes, $100. But don't worry, it's easier than you think to raise $100. Ask 10 friends for $10 or start by sponsoring yourself $25, then getting 3 other sponsors for $25. Coaching packets and trainings are available. Please contact our office at 213-384-5864 for more details or click here to be taken to the Fundraising Tips page.

What Happens If I Don't Reach My $100 Minimum?

If you have not raised your $100 minimum by the day of the Climb, we will ask you if you are prepared to pay the difference. If not, your credit card information will be collected and you will have until May 30th to fundraise the remaining amount, or your credit card will be charged.

Ouch that might be a little hard. I was thinking of asking people at work to maybe join. Is that a must as a team?

The waves start at 9 am. And continue on for some time, so it is nice that it isn't as early of a start as some 5K type races. Which should allow plenty of time for travel. I would be willing to drive if anyone wanted to carpool from a spot off one of the local freeways.

Should have included in original post - they ask that each person fundraises $100. And they give tons of tips for how to do so.

I'm really excited to participate in this event which has you climbing the 2nd largest building in LA to raise funds for healthy air initiatives on April 30th. I am really looking forward to this challenge, and would like to create a team to participate, but need to see if there is interest first.

It is 1377 steps - 63 floors! But they say if you can walk a 5K you can complete this. Please let me know if you might be interested.
