And the search goes on. I didn't work on my tree yesterday as I was busy with my Artists group. I did have some kin in Oregon where I live now and I keep in touch with one cousin. She gave me all of her records long ago and so the leads have now dried up.

Some of my records say my relative was born on Owen AR, some say Dallas AR. Well the only Dallas AR I found was a county and the only Owen AR was a penial colony for prisoners from Kentucky and Tenn. in the middle of Dallas County. Since this mans father was born in NC, that is the right area. Guess next step is to find prison records.

I lived in TX 30 years and know my TX family pretty good. Now I live in AR. Yes I have family here. Trying to get to know them. Starting with where in AR. We live in a good size town and we are 2100 people. Next one over is 178 and the next one is 2, so having a town name doesn't help much. I have learned about towns that were 25,000 and the depression hit, the river trade ended or what have you and they are so happy they are up to 500 now

No nick names. My dads side of the family didn't know very many male names. I can remember family cook outs where every adult male there were 5, was either Uncle Bob or Daddy to every child there

That is really just about as bad as George Foreman naming all his boys George. He named them all George Edward Foreman so they would have something in common. LOL

Do they have nick names or anything? I find it confusing.

My fathers oldest brother is Charles Webster the II, Pop Is Charles Webster the II and his father is Charles Webster the first. His father is Charles William the III. And they are all in the Who's Who of Texas men as CW. A lot of info in that book, but who is who?

Being the family historian I know my entire family (save one line) are recent immigrants. They came to this country to avoid famine and war. Now I have family members considering leaving again for a better life. Sigh

I do not want any politics to enter this discussion. We all have strong feelings and FaceBook is bad enough.

One of the things I love about SparkPeople is the no politics policy. If you want religion or politics there are teams for that.

It would not make any sense to not allow children of servicemen to be citizens.

The one parent citizen and one parent not supposedly was stopped several years ago (I don't know when). That was the arguement with Obama not being a citizen. While he claims to have been born in Hawaii, the Obamas also said he was born in Kenya (I'm not going to go into that part). If he was born in Kenya, though, if the deal with one parent a citizen makes the child a citizen is still in effect and was never changed, he would still have been a citizen in the first place because his mother was a citizen. At least if she didn't denounce her citizenship when she married his father.

There is a battle either brewing or going on. The layers say the constitution says if one parent it a citizen then the children are citizens. But for years the child has had the option to be a citizen before their 18th birthday, but many have fought it and won. Tromp wants ALL children, even military to register to have their birth registered before they are 3 months. He hasn't gotten very far with putting it into law. mostly, I think, because he has so many battles going on and knows this will be a big one. He says people are taking advantage of the current law and they way it is right now and children whose parents left the US to join ISIS are coming back and starting ISIS cells in the US

MaryAlice that is amazing that they were so close. Not growing up around relatives has meant not meeting my cousins until I was older. One exception, my Aunt Elly's family visited occasionally.

I had a really cool exchange with an 8th Cousin. We share our 7th G-Grandfather. He gave me the links to his family tree so I could see his side of the family.

FancyQtr - I think if I were in any of these situations I would call the State Dept. just to be sure.

I read a report that said something about the not a citizen if born overseas is about the adopted children, not about those born to servicemen overseas. That was a misunderstanding. I suppose it might also mean those born to a serviceman and a foreign spouse, but don't know about that. I have a friend whose mother was German married to a U.S. serviceman.

I talked to mom today About her family. Mom says she was very close to her cousin Tom. She said when she was 10 she announced she was going to marry her cousin Tom. Mom and Tom got married days apart. I am the oldest in my family and was born the same day has Tom oldest, also a girl. My sister, the second child in our family is 2 weeks older then Toms second, also a girl. My next sister is a few days younger then Toms third girl. And my 4th sister is a few days older then Toms forth daughter. Toms wife called it quits after the forth girl. Mom went on to have a boy and another girl.

Fascinating family tradition. I am with you I hope people understand these changes before they lose their rights. I have a hard time understanding this type of change!!!

Funny story - I always loved British history and stories of the royal family. I now know why. According to my DNA I am at least 57% from England, Wales, and Northwestern Europe. A bit of Ireland and Scotland with Germanic thrown in for good measure. LOL

We are all US citizens. The rules change on a regular bases, but basically the babies birth has to be registered with the pentagon. We registered my son's birth with the US embassy before he was 3 months old. Registering at the embassy, is registering at the pentagon. At the time you had to register before the babies 18th birthday. We just did it when we were in town anyway so he would never have any problems. Tromp wants to change it to the baby has to be registered before it is 3 months old and wants to make it retroactive to the children that are born to US citizens, even people in the military. If they aren't registered before they are 3 months they have to be naturized. I sure hope any of the children out there that fall into that category get to an embassy before the law is changed so they don't have to go throw that mess.

Now that is amazing. So if I read this correctly you are English and/or American? Do you hold duel citizenship. This just fascinates me.

This one is a little strange and more a verification. I told Mom that most of the time when a family came to America they stayed in America, but her family came over on the mayflower and spends half it's time going back and forth to England. She said yes. Since they came over on the mayflower, The oldest child and the oldest son of every other generation went back to England and had their first child. Till it was my and my brother turn, I am first born, had my first in the US and my son in a British colony. My brother had all 3 of his in the British colony. Someone forgot to tell us about the tradition and some how we came close anyway.

I hereby challenge everyone on this team to add one new fact (big or small) to their family tree.

For instance, I added a new location that my dad lived in during his childhood. Seems he spend a good amount of time moving from on New York address to another.
