Thanks Ettezeus!

One thing that surprised me about running: you get great abs.
Wasn't expecting that.

Hi Scully,

Running slow is a good idea. I did that too and found I could keep up my stamina. I only run fast for the last kilometer...cause I just want to stop running... emoticon

How to keep the knees in shape is a problem here too.
I've seen some runners out with knee braces or wearing the special tights that provide support. Could you try that?

I just completed this program with my first 5K (virtual) race. I actually ran over 5K (total was 5.22K) because I took a wrong turn on my route. emoticon

I too, had a few goals: run in under 40 minutes and try not to stop.

Despite the hot weather (about 33 C) I completed my run in 36mins. 3 sec. emoticon

This program really worked for me.

To others: keep going, run slow to pace yourself and enjoy a reward at the end of each week -- for me that's an ice cream. emoticon emoticon

I had actually hoped to do one at the end of October but started having knee pain so never made it. I think I was pushing too hard. I took a break for a few weeks and then started very slowly. I am doing OK if I do run/walk intervals a couple times a week. I guess I am just going to have to realize that I am never going to be able to be a hard core runner. Now I am considering a 5K color run in June. It is quite a bit of time but where I live we currently have over 200 inches of snow.

Congratulations! I ran my first 5k early in December and while I didn't run the whole way I did finish and I met 2 of my 3 goals so overall I am not too disappointed. The feeling is pretty great. Have you got the next one picked out?

I ran my first "official" 5K today and it was awesome! The race started out at 10:30 am and it was a lot hotter than I was used to. I usually run at night, but I realize I will have to start running in the am so I can get used to the heat, sun, and hot pavement.

Overall, it was a great experience and I look forward to the next one!

Whooooo-hooo!

I might wait till spring/summer as the weather has quickly turned frigid and shows no signs of warming up. I definitely know the cold air and my lungs don't mix well.

I did it! I was worried I wouldn't be able to run the whole time, but I sure did, and I actually never even thought about walking!

Great feeling of accomplishment. Now I am going to gradually work my way up to a 10K! Yessss!

I'm gonna go, go, go. There's no stopping me! -Queen

Finished Yesterday my last day of the program. It is a great feeling doing something you never in a million years thought you could!

and this is coming from someone who loves cardio but hates running

Don't give up! Every time you say 'no' you are only hurting yourself! You can do amazing things!

Great job! I just finished Week 8, Day 1 today. I can't believe I will be running my race on Saturday!

Actually, I will just be running by myself, with nothing but a phone app to tell me when I have finished, but I'm going to do it! Hopefully.

Anyway, hooray for you! emoticon

Ran my first 5K today. Almost didn't go, nerves were getting the best of me. I do not know why I had no expectations except trying to meet 2 goals: finishing and running the whole way. I met my goals and finished 3rd in my age group (there were only 4 in my age group :) but I will take it!). I am so glad I did not back out. I didn't have a clue what I should be doing but the race staff was so nice. My hubby and son were very supportive and came to cheer me on. Already have another 5K picked out for Oct.
