I did week 1 day 1 today. I have previously done 5 min of running with 10 min of walking in between on both Sunday and Wednesday. Today I've joined this tim. I think having done two of my "own" sessions already this week, made a huge difference.

I did it wrong I just noticed: I only did 4 circles of running/jogging. Will at the missing one on day 3. So will do 25 min on Mon and 30 min on Wed. Uppps!

It was actually hard for me to stop running after a minute but I made sure I did, did not let myself huff and puff as Laurie likes telling people not to on and on haha (love that!) but still kept a fair pace... I thought it was easy. The weather was not nice: very cold, grey, no sun, thank the universe no rain! I think running when spring is there is even better...

I ran/walked the 20 minutes requested and added 30 min of walking through the hills and the park (it's always up and down here in Switzerland) and did 1.4 miles for the challenge (20min) plus 1.23 miles just walking (pace: 20/mile, slow but nice)... will get to the goal I hope...But I forgot one cycle of running/jogging, so I will add that as said before...

Cheers! Maruca

I did Week 1 Day 1 last night. It felt so great to be back outside! I did a 5 minute walking warm up AND cool down, so I did a total of 35 minutes...2.13 miles.

I had also already done a 1.5 mile walk at lunch today with co-workers. I finished off the day with my scheduled strength training session. Now to relax and watch tonights Biggest Loser.

I'm so happy to hear that others have been able to start this program. I, unfortunately, will have to wait until the snow, and especially, the ice melt off. I can't even get to the gym:( sigh. But I am ready and willing to start. Hopefully tomorrow it will be better.....that means raining:))

Completed Day 1 yesterday - loved the program. I felt fantastic after the walk/run and cool down. I have some awesome music I listened to while doing the program A time for me. Today did a set of exercises I found in a Prevention magazine using the Kettle ball. Off to a good start. Now regarding all the Message board, food and training tracking - that's where I'll probably fall behind. Like a lot of women, I have 30 hrs worth of life stuffed into 24 hrs.

I have tried running before and never been able to do it. Too much too fast? Too many days in a row? Whatever the reason I never had a good idea how to actually train to do it. I love the concrete plan that is provided in the 5K your way programs. I know I can do this with how it is set up and am excited to see happen.

I am very excited about this challenge. Up unto about 6 weeks ago, I had never run on purpose!! The first time I ran, I went for 30 secs, and I was so excited. Now I am planning on walk/jogging a 5K.

This morning was my first day of training, so I walked for 4 minutes and ran for 1 and did that 5 times. I was worried because that would have been the most I have ever run, but I did it and it felt good. I am really excited about this. I love having a goal and a very defined training schedule. I am hope this is what my system needs to kick start my weight loss again. We will see!!

Yeah Lori-Red - -- Congrats. I did just about the same...I wish you luck with your program and found this first week easier than I thought it would be. Here's to next week! :)

Like you...a mom of a boy..I want to be able to do the same with my crazy 5 year old in the fall at our towns fun run. I was so proud of him he ran a bit over a mile in 11 min. Not too shabby with his little legs..my hubby ran with him and said he walked a few times but jumped back into the run. He was mid pack nothing like seeing a 5 year old passing you up! Now there's my motivation.

I started Week 1 on Saturday and made it all the way through the workout. I did 1.85 miles in 25 minutes and was pretty jazzed about that. I am so excited about this, I want so badly to be able to jog with my son when he comes home for the summer. He pesters me all the time to keep working out.

Yippee, I finished day 1, week 1. I did not go very fast (finished 1.3 miles in 25 minutes) but I am glad I completed the walk/run. I was not too sure I could do this as I have a slight case of asthma, am overwieght, just starting exercise a few months ago and have some arthritis from ACL surgery in my knee. I will just try to keep up the schedule and go at the pace that works, hopefully gradually increasing speed and/or distance.

I did my first day today. I am using it to help me get motivated because I always slack off during the winter. I just cannot stand running on a treadmill, so when it gets dark out early I have a hard time. Luckily it is now light out long enough for me to get it in. For cross training I am going to do Zumba and the Core Rhythm DVD; along with a kettlebell DVD. Looking forward to this!! I am slow, but hopefully by April will have picked up a bit. I did 1.69miles in the 25 minutes. Good luck everyone!

I have completed two Week 1 days so far and I have been rotating them with a brisk walk the day after. My dog is loving it. I have a Jack Russell and it takes about 4 miles to get him to finally stop worrying about every shuffle of a leaf and just go with it but I am sure if I can get my work out to a straight jog that he will learn my pace a whole lot quicker.

I hope to eventually become a runner as well but for this event I would just like to consider walk/jog. If I can run the entire thing then great but I I can jog most of it then that is fine as well. I plan to stay dedicated to finding out how far my body will allow it to push it. The wind did a great job of that the past two days.

So I have a little windburn and a runner's runny nose but it feels great.

I just signed up in the middle of the week last week, so I am waiting to begin until Monday. I have printed out my schedule and talked my walking buddy into and have been walking so I should be ready to give it a go. I have wanted to do this for a while, but never seem to be able to follow thru on my on. A buddy makes a huge difference!

I have been concentrating on the interval aspect, and haven't paid any attention to how many miles I am doing. I've done Days 1 & 2 of week 1 so far. I will try to note the mileage when I finish on Tuesday.

Did day 1 on Saturday using the treadmill and finished in 2.6 km and burnt 150 calories.

I have actually registered for my first real race on April the 10th! So excited!

I tried day 1 and had a lot of fun doing it, but I just couldn't run for a whole minute. But since I weigh 295 lbs. and haven't run for fitness since my freshman year of high school (about 24 years ago), I'm ok with that. I will keep trying this week and I may keep repeating week 1 until my body catches on. I was encouraged to be able to run (really, jog) for at least 30 seconds each time. And when I got up this morning, no shin splints or other unusual foot or leg pain. My back and sides hurt, but I think that's from Zumba! : )

I'm looking forward to keeping this up, seeing success, and doing my first real 5K run/walk in August for a GREAT cause!! (Logan Center in South Bend, IN - serving children and adults with special needs)

God bless!

Started training yesterday and it went okay. The dogs think it is cool too.

I started today too...without knowing that I followed the plan. I got up to go to the gym and decided I would do something other than the eliptical. I got on the treadmill and started with a 3.5mph walk...did about a min and cranked it up to 4.8...went for 10 min...walked a few more at 4mph...ran another 3min, walked 2im, ran 3min, etc until I reached 3.1miles and about 35 min total. wow. I'm on my way. emoticon

I've been using my treadmill, along with alot of other exercising, so I was kind of stuck in a rut. I was only doing 1 mile a day, with/without incline, & jogging only a couple minutes. I would be worn out at the end. Today, I started the training, & I made it through the whole thing!!! I was so excited, & happy with myself!! I felt great. I am sticking with the training, & I'm sure i will be able to do the 5K when its time. This is awesome!!

Am really liking this program - have never been a runner but am finding this kind of fun. Since it is too cold and snowy here I am doing my walk/run on the treadmill for now. So should I be doing other cardio "stuff" on the alternate days ?

Honestly, I didn't even get as far as Day 1... *sigh* ... this is sad... The morning that I signed up for this I had gone out jussst to SEE if I could maybe run a little bit... and I DID! I ran 1/10th of a mile... TWICE! However... the next day I realized I have shin splints -- JUST from that little bit of running! Really... how SAD is that? But what I'm wondering is... is there a STRETCH to do that stretches that muscle? I've been trying bending my foot down and backwards but that doesn't really do it... but it feels like stretching it might really help. Am I wrong?

I am so happy that I decided to redo wk.1.
I was doing it wrong the first time and didn't realize it until after my second day. Instead of running 5x I was only running 4x's. I felt like I was cheating myself out of good training if I just continued on. My legs were really burning and I was just to out of breath the first time.

This time I did the program right and I also slowed everything down, even my walking speed.
Wow, what a difference that made! I was able to do the runs 5x's and I was able to stay within a good HR range. Didn't go over 85%. So I am very happy that I am redoing Wk1!

Laura.
