I finished the Purity Dairy Dash 5K in Nashville yesterday in 50:40 (shaving 4 mins off my previous best). I got more jogging in than I have previously and am pretty pleased with the results. My 13 yo son did the race also and finished a couple of minutes ahead of me.

Now preparing for our next 10K race in two weeks in Cincinnati (Flying Pig here we come)

emoticon I was little slow with this challenge at first because it always seemed I couldn't get my heart rate up there when I would run, but lately since I've been going to the park and running, I am getting my heart rate up to about 90%! I am so proud of myself for not giving up. I am going to continue to do the best I can with this challenge! I do feel I am able to run for longer periods of time the more I challenge myself! I wish everyone the best with their goals! The more you do it, the more you have success! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I ran my 5k in local race yesterday. official times posted today was 27:44. I'm happy with that. Wanted to do it in under 30 min. Was my first 5k. So now my benchmark time for future races.

Hi all -- I did my 5k yesterday -- all virtual on the treadmill for me. 3.33miles in 47 mins. When I started out, I was walking at a 3.6mph pace, and jogging just a little at 4.0 mph. By the end, I'd worked up to intermittent segments of 3.5 minute walks at 4.0 mph, followed by 1.5 minute jogs at 5.0 mph. For someone who has hated ANY jogging for her entire life, it feels pretty good!

Challenge Done! I didn't think I was ever going to get out of Week 5.. In Week 4 my knees let me know I needed two rest days between runs.. then an unrelated injury caused me to miss the second workout in Week 5.. then the day before 'race day' I got the flu... and was out an entire week. My 'Week 5' lasted two and a half weeks... but it's finally done. This morning I finished my very first 5k (at home on my treadmill) in 41:59. Not so fast, but not bad for someone who couldn't even run to the end of the driveway when this all started.

I have had an incredibly crazy 2 weeks. I only had the chance to run 1 day last week and it was cut short. I had a doc's appt yesterday, ran into an old friend that invited me to lunch and afterwards went home. I heard the weather calling for clouds and rain rolling in later in the day. It was currently 2pm, sunny, windy, and hovering around 68. I knew if I didn't do it I'd not have the time or the weather. I've been working the G28K program and have not run more than 11 minute intervals in a long time. I told myself to just try and keep a pace and see how far I could get. I run around the fairgrounds -1 lap = .5 miles and my normal pace is 6:15. Well I walked an entire lap (usually I walk about 1/2 way, stretch and then run) so I could run the course I mapped out on mapmyrun.com which gave me the .2 miles down the first straight-away. I ran the first lap without looking at my watch until I finished and I ran it in 5:57..Woah...ran the second lap and finished the first half in 11 min something...I finally broke down and walked at the halfway point and again with .5 miles to go. By the last lap I was regretting the lunch I had eaten or had wished I had waited a little while longer. I completed the 5K in 39:40. My goal was under 40 and so I'm happy. My goal would have been under my 5K time in December 38:44 if I had been able to run more in the past 2 weeks. I'm pround I finished, excited that my first mile was good, and got on the scale this morning and was at the low end of my fluctuating plateu so maybe the scale will start moving again. emoticon

Did my 5 km in 47.12. It was pouring rain, freezing cold and unbelievable wind coming off the Lake but I finished strong and shave 2.5 minutes of my best time. All & all I am pretty proud.

I finished my 5K in 54 mins....not too happy with my time. I worked out too much yesterday and couldn't follow through with the walk/run routine. After the first mile and a half I had to end with walking. I'm just glad I was able to finish it. I can't wait til the next one!!!

First time, finished 5k; used treadmill as it was raining; walked mostly and time was 54.9 I am happy with that. Now I will go on and see if I can improve the time. This was a fun challenge/motivator. Thanks sp for coming up with this type of ex for all of us who are not able to go out and join in a proper marathon. This works. Who knows, just might sign up for one in the real world soon.

I ran my 5k this evening. I mapped out a course around my neighborhood. My goal was to run the entire distance, not just do the run/walk interval. I am happy to say that my time was 36:18, about a 12 minute mile pace. I was absolutely thrilled! This is the first 5k distance I've run in its entirety in almost 14 years - woo hoo!

I'm going to walk/jog my 5K tonight :) I have fibromyalgia and have really been struggling with the jogging part so my goal is really just to beat my walking 5K time of 59:09 ... although maybe my goal should just be to finish without collapsing :P
And then I'm done with the jogging for good, lol! I know some people like to jog and run but my body does NOT appreciate and I'm going to listen to it. After I DO this thing :) I started the challenge and I'm going to finish the challenge just because I don't want to leave it 'undone'.

Update ... I DID IT!!! 54:11 :) Under my 59:09 and took almost 5 minutes off my previous time :) That's as good as it's going to get though because that long is too long for my ankles and knees when there's jogging involved :/

Completed my Virtual 5K today. My goal was under 45 minutes, and I completed it in 45:43. Not quite there, but SO close. I've been struggling this week to stay on track, so I told myself I needed to get off my butt and DO this. See it through. My time is a personal best, so I'm proud of that and the fact I didn't talk myself out of doing this. Maybe this is what I need to get myself motivated again!

WTG everyone! Finish strong!

My goal was to do the 5K in less than an hour.. this is my first time even trying to jog anything ... jog/walk is what i did.. except i lost track of my mileage and i ended up going 3.5 miles in 61 minutes.. so i still reached my goal just did a little more than i was supposed too! But it felt good! I hope to do another one at some point. Going to try to keep that as my Sunday activity at our walk/bike path in our town!!

I finished my 5k race on Saturday, April 9th. It was a fun time on the beach with several others. I paced myself well. I wasn't the fastest but I was happy with the results. I am going to continue doing this and looking for other races in the near future. I am fortunate that I was able to do it in the warm weather of Florida.

@Mytime - in my city we have a series of "run for alcohol" 5ks. beer was last month, wine is over memorial day weekend, and the margarita one hasn't been scheduled yet (but that's the one I want!).

On the 5k training program page you can claim your trophy, once you've done your race.

For those looking for local races to participate in, check out active.com I've already picked out 5 more I'd like to do this year. :D

JUMPIN' FOR JOY!!!!

I did my first 5k and I did it actually under what I gave myself time to do it in. I figured an hour....and I came in at 55 mins.

My friends joined in......my workout friend came in with the same time I did since we did it side by side.

My co-worker friend came in with 40 mins of walkin' her 5k and another 40 mins for runnin' her 5k....Way to go for her.

I have another one for in May that I signed up for....can't wait.

I had my route mapped and ready to go, but it's been icky weather here the past two days, so I did my 5K on the treadmill this morning. I think I could do better outside but I finished in 45:06. I plan on trying again in a couple weeks to improve my time. Hopefully outside!

Got my virtual 5k in today (actually did 4.25 Mi)
Badtime, 58 minutes, because I have a cold/sore throat & could not jog at all. That is why I went a little further. I was wondering if there was a particular place I am supposed to report I did this.

Good Luck to all on their virtual runs!

I signed up for a 1/2 Marathon in Nashville on Nov 12th
Medal says "I run for the party"and they give you a Michelob light at the finish. My husband laughed cuz I don't drink beer. I told him I bet it would taste good at the end of 13.1 miles and I WAS gonna drink it....well, I will try it anyway

I did my virtual 5K yesterday......51 minutes. I was hoping to do around 50 minutes. I'm going to try another one in about a month and see if I can improve my time a little.

I did my 5k Race for Autism today. DH thought I was crazy to get a timer, but I told him I've worked hard to improve my time and I wanna know.....
well, the 10k times are posted but not the 5k. I think it was about 1 hr 10 min, which is far better than any of my training times. It was a very narrow path and crowded, so I didn't end up being able to jog at all. Still, it was a nice day out with DH for a good cause. We both work with children with autism.

update: 1 hr 11 min and 15.1 sec
I finished 275th out of 283. LOL I'm guessing anyone slower didn't bother getting a timer chip. Still, I have an official time. I never got below 1h 15m on the treadmill.

I did my race on Sunday. I first mapped it out in the fitness section. I had always just gone for time, not distance. I walked 2 min/jog 3 min. I finished in 39 minutes. I never thought I would actually enjoy jogging. I'm now looking for a local 5K to participate in. Until then, I'll just continue in town, on my own route that I created. I'm going to continue to decrease the walk time and increase the jog time, until I can jog the entire 5K.

I finished on Saturday! I had done something I previously avoided (and the recommendations stressed) and did day's 1-3 all in a row. I was determined to finish on Saturday, and I had been so lazy at the beginning of the week that was the only way I could do it. I don't think it would have been such a big issue except for my Day 2 run was pretty rough (there was a monsoon!! Okay, I'm just exaggerating, but it was a LOT of rain!), and I think my shoes got a bit wet...they felt okay on Saturday, but they must have been damp because I ended up with a blister. I did more than half of the 5K at the walk 2/jog 3 interval, but toward the end I was so tired and my foot was hurting so I alternated jogging and walking between blocks. I finished in 47:11...my goal was under 50 minutes, so I'm happy with how it turned out!!
