I would love to lose at least 2 pounds a week on this challenge. If I can lose 16 pounds I will be thrilled. I also want to make healthy eating a habit by the end of the challenge.

My goal is to lose 2 pounds per week by staying faithful to myself in the little things.....tracking my food and getting my rear in gear! It's been hit or miss lately and the added accountability is needed!

I have recently been diagnosed with type II diabetes and need to learn as much as I can as to how to control this disease. My goal is to excercise daily and learn how to eat to lose weight and lower my blood sugar.

My goal is to stick to something long enough so that it becomes a habit. I don't want to end up like my father where he can't even bend over the tie his shoes because he's so round. I'm 23 and I need my life back and if I can get the positive support here then that should be enough motivation to get my butt moving. Losing the weight and learning how to eat is something that I want so badly, of course, but it's the motivation that I hope to achieve here.

I started to get back on track a couple weeks ago with diet and regular excercise. My goal for this challenge is to push myself in both exercise and meal control and start to consistantly lose 2 pounds a week.

I have been diabetic for 10 years, I am 45 now and I am 5'8" and weigh 209, would like to lose 50 pounds, but need to do it by making smaller obtainable goals to keep me motivated. emoticon

My goals. Since the holiday break i have had the goal of losing 2 lb per week until i meet my long term goal of 70 total lbs lost. So, with this challenge I set the same goal, 2 lb per week or 16 lbs over the 8 weeks of contest. This is a bad time to set an exercise goal as I had minor surgery on my leg last Thursday and shouldn't walk until the stitches are removed in 7 more days. I haven't been tracking food intake, but as i'm losing weight I'm not obsessed about this, but will for the contest. My A1c was 7.1 two months ago. Goal: ~6.5 by next test, about 3 weeks 16 Feb 11.

I would like to lose 12 pounds during the next 8 weeks. I have a very healthy vegan diet--80%-90% raw foods. However I do need to exercise and so that is my goal. My FBS is generally around 119-120. But weight is 177 with a height of 5"2"

I just saw this challenge today, and decided I need to join and be accountable in order to succeed.I gave up on life many years ago,out of depression, and had been physically active and exercising prior.I so regret losing my inner strength, and letting my life slip away and losing all those years of youth. I have been on BP meds for 10 years now.Two years ago I was Dx with pre-diabetes , and now I find myself with a fatty liver and bad liver function test, and worry that I am full diabetic now.I want to be able to do and feel what I did before this time.I want my life back. I know the only solution is weight loss and activity, and that I have to force myself to do what is necessary.

I want to lose as much weight as possible in these next 8 weeks, regain my determination and control and have a hold on a new good health, and stay invested in my future.

My goal is to change from being classifed as pre-diabetic to normal along with losing weight & getting active. I would also love to be able to stop taking blood pressure medication and I am hopeful the expected weight loss & exercise will help reduce or eliminate that need.

My goal on this challenge is to become more educated, move move.

What ever I can learn has to be positive, I am a pre-diabetic and wish to stay that way for as long as possible without becoming a full diabetic.

Duke Ellington said "A goal is a dream that has an ending" My goal is to be more accountable. I need to check my blood sugars more during the day, I need to lose weight, I need to record when I exercise, what I eat, etc and the accountability should help. I need to lower my triglycerides too. So thats my goals.

I am today joining this challenge also! I'd like to lower my A1c. My last one (on January 4, 2011) was 8.2, which is the highest I've had in a long long time. Normally mine run below 7 and often below 6. I know some of my problem with this one, is it was just after the holidays. I had drank more alcohol over the holidays than I normally drink and also didn't take my medicene like I should.

Anyway - the doctor upped my glipizide to help counter act the high A1c.

Over the next 8 weeks, I'd like to lose 10+ pounds and maybe be able to be off at least the added glipizide. I will also exercise 3-4 times weekly, which I have been doing for quite some time now.

I'm anxious to get to know each of you better!

This is my first challenge, so I do hope I will do this right! I found out I am diabetic (type II) literally 5 days ago. My goals are as follows:

1) Lose at least 10lbs over the next 8 weeks
2) Get my caloric intake to a normal range (I am currently not taking in enough calories)
3) Learn to monitor my blood glucose
4) Make an appointment with my dietician
5) Get exercising within my range of motion.

My goals are to do what the checklist says. Track my food, 15 minute exercise videos, 70 mins cardio for the week.

I think it will be helpful to do this with a group.

And, after discussing AGAIN with my endocrinologist that I am struggling to lose weight, I'm also using sparkpeople to give him hard evidence of my diet & exercise habits.

I have had gastric bypass surgery, and it helped finally getting my diabetes II under control. However, it is also a tool and I had the surgery quite a while ago so I have put back on around 25 pounds. I need to get this weight off again, or I will be back to needing medication again. So, I have a total goal to lose 25 pounds. But, my first goal is to lose 10 pounds.

I just joined this challenge because my blood sugars are way out of control. I've been Type 2 for over 10 years and still can't seem to get it right. I started exercising and tracking foods a week ago, but I want to get the weight off and get my blood sugars under control. Any advice/motivation you can share will be greatly appreciated.

Let the journey begin, again!!

Hi, I just joined. I've been Type 2 since 1999, but over the course of the last 2 years it seems I am less able to control my sugar without medication. I was just on gluchophage and have now been placed on another med as well. My goals are to be consistent in monitoring my blood sugars, to decrease the refined sugars from my diet, and to lose 10 pounds so I can start to use the Wii Fit I bought. Good luck to everyone!

Kathy, 10 lbs is a great target and by tracking everything, you have a great chance of hitting that......GOOD LUCK!

Here in England, we have had an extra 2.5% VAT added to our shopping as from today. So goods (although not food) is charged at 20%. This will put the price of transporting the food up, but am glad to report that lots of fresh fruit and vegetables in my local supermarket have dropped in price ( emoticon )!!
This is all good for us Diabetics wanting to do something about our disorder!

Having let my gym sessions/exercise slip for about 6 weeks ( due to my own illness and that of my partner) my challenges for now are as follows:

I will track my food eaten regularly again.
I will go to the gym 3 times a week and work back up to my former programme.
In 6-8 weeks I will get my gym programme reviewed and updated if appropriate.

I will make healthier food choices to get over the Christmas unhealthy foods / meals!

During this challenge I am hoping to lose more weight and maintain my exercise regime. It would be nice to come off more meds! I will walk every day and hike once a week as well as my cardio and Strength training.

I'd really like to learn how to fuel my body properly so that I can get the balance right for exercise and weight loss. I don't have too much to lose now, but I need to concentrate on fitness and getting it right.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Having knowingly been Diabetic for 3 years (type 2), I felt I would like to help, advise and support others, as well as gaining knowledge from other peoples experiences.
I still hope to take my weight loss further with continued effort by being a part of this team.
So, best foot forward..........................
