I am starting this challenge to help me stay committed to making my health a priority in my life. My goals for this challenge are:
Eat at least 3 servings of freggies per day
Drink at least 8 cups of water per day
Exercise as the challenge recommends
To complete the weekly assignments for the challenge.

I am worth the few minutes daily that this will require! I have a Disney vacation planned later this year, and I need to be able to walk at least 6 to 12 miles a day in order to fully enjoy that trip!

Let's do this!

My goal is to loose weight and become healthier. I am 48 years old and was told this past Friday that I am in pre-diabetes stage and if I do not want to tip over on the wrong side I need to make a lifestyle change. The doctor even recommended this website to track my carbs and calories. So my goal is to loose 50 pounds in the next year and increase my water intake.

My goals are to NOT become any closer to being diabetic. My grandfather was diabetic and a bunch more other stuff going on. I am starting here and may fix some of the others.
I mostly want to prevent it from sneaking up on me. As I get older, I can see that happening.
Just want to lose weight, get bad numbers down and feel great.

I just signed up for this challenge.
Confession: I am not diabetic or prediabetic (yet).
Diabetes truly runs in my family, especially around middle age.
I want to be aggressive. My goal is to do everything I can to decrease my risks for this disease. As an RN I often see the consequences of not caring for your body, of letting this disease rule your body...
So.
I'm going to learn what I can. I am going to make changes that keep me healthy and happy.

My goals are : 1. to make sure that i lose at least 10kg the first week, tracker all intake of food, and try as much as possible to exercise even if its light walking.

My work keeps me at my desk all day in front of my pc and this has added to my problem and i am looking for ways to shed this lazy attitude to exercise that i have.

I stopped full time baking because i was putting on too much weight, but if i can lose the amount of weight that i need to lose, and learn to stick to a healthier lifestyle, then i can go back to my baking and creating masterpieces in confetionery.

By the end of the challenge, i want a new me with a healthy attitude to life and a new burst of determination to stick to it.

I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST THAT STRENGTHENS ME.

My goal is to lose weight (any amount will be great!) and lower my BG. Not very specific, but since I haven't been doing anything lately, they are a step in the right direction.

My goal is to lose 24 lbs in 8 weeks. I weigh 244 now. I want to lose 10% because I relate to percentages and time! I think this is a possible goal although I've never lost so much in a short period of time. Usually I lose weight just because I have started making a lot of soups, or eating salads and veggies almost exclusively (because that's what I feel like eating). When I realize I have lost 15 #s or so, then I plan to lose more weight, and then I gain weight! I want to figure out that dynamic during the next 8 weeks so I can break the cycle.

Hello! I have been a member of Spark for quite a while, and i have been an on-again off-again "dieter" nearly my entire life. I was recently diagnosed with type 2. i need a challenge like this one to help me get a jumpstart on serious weight loss.
My major goals: to be accountable for what i put in my mouth, to drink more water and eliminate carbonated beverages (even if diet), and to exercise even if it is only 15 mins a day.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life!

Hi my name is Natalie, I just now joined this challenge (21.June.2012) and I have been a diabetic since I was 21-22 I am now 35 and I have been struggling with both my weight and my diabetes. Right now I have other medical problems that I am trying to get cleared up that have kept me from doing things. I know that if I had taken better care of myself that I wouldn't be in this predicament, but I have learned from my mistakes and want to make my life better.

In the last 3-4 years I have become more and more of a recluse and would rather spend my time right here on the pc sitting in my chair rather than being out and in public interacting with people. I have decided that for several reasons I need to change my ways and become an out going person once again.

I know that it is all going to start with me taking baby steps and this is my first step.
What really scares me is that my kids are getting to be comfortable staying home instead of going out with friends or just going outside to play.

I don't want them missing out on life just because of my bad habits. So I am accepting this challenge and I plan on doing my very best. Please bare with me as some days are better than others medical wise.

I have been battling weight lose for a long while now. I am up around 400lbs again and I haven't been less than 370 in 3 years I would love to get down in the 200's and stay there.

While doing all of this I would love to be able to teach my children to make healthy choices when it comes to food and to be able to lead them into living a healthier lifestyle.

I appreciate any and all encouragement, tips on staying on course, and any advise to eating healthier on a very low budget.

I have one beautiful daughter and would like to have another child. I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy and do not want to have it again. My doctor has stated that if I start a diabetic diet now, I may be able to avoid the gestational diabetes on the next pregnancy.

My main goals are too eat less processed foods, lose around 10 pounds, stop drinking soda, and start using the stairs instead of the elevator at my work. This week goal is write 3 positive things about myself and the benefits of a lifestyle change.

I am so excited because I lost 2 lbs on my first week of the 8 weeks and that is exactly what my goal was in terms of weight loss. I didn't meet ALL of my goals but one down! :)

The greatest results in life are usually attained by simple means and the exercise of ordinary qualities. These may for the most part be summed in these two: common-sense and perseverance.

Hello, my name is Tammie I have been battling weight and health issues forever. I have type II diabetes and my A1C was over 12 at one point and was down to 5.5 but trending up a little. I seen this challenge and thought what a great way to get back on track. I am trying to get healthy for me and my family.

Goals to eat less junk, eat more natural whole foods. Keep track of everything that I eat even if its a bite. I also am going to try and keep better track of my blood sugars, and last but not least make myself move more.

Hi! My name is Pat and I have had Type 2 diabetes for 7 years. I also have Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease, as well as fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and chronic back and leg pain as a result of herniated discs and stenosis of the spine. My last A1C test result was 7.0, but I'm concerned because my fasting glucose levels have been climbing; currently, they are running in the 120's and 130's. - used to be in the 90's and low 100's on oral medications. I take Januvia daily.

I'm also concerned because my weight has been climbing - currently 180 - way too much. Because of my pain levels, I haven't been able to exercise much. That has changed, as of last week. I joined a Health Club where they have a heated pool and I started 2 water classes - Ai Chi and a water Arthritis class. I have also been seeing a chiropractor, who seems to be helping my back problems. I know I need to move more, so my my goals are:

1. To continue with the water classes.
2. To add some other exercises on the machines and also walking, as tolerated.
3. To drink more water each day.
4. To track and monitor my food intake, as well as making healthier choices.
5. To lose 10 lbs. during this 8-week Challenge.

I look forward to the support of the Spark People as we walk this journey together.

My HbA1C was 6.6 yesterday and is under control. The weight is my number one goal.
I will follow the spark people challenge.

My name is Missy and was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in February 2012. I know if I get control of my weight and fitness levels I can control my glucose without the metformin I am currently prescribed. My long term goal is to lose 100 lbs.

My goals for this week include:
1. tracking my food this week
2. exercising each day for 30 minutes

Even though my last A1-C results were in the normal range, I would like to be able to accomplish that without the use of metformin. I think that can happen if I lose the weight. My weight lose goal for the next 8 weeks is 10 lbs.

I look forward to sharing this challenge with all of you emoticon

Hi, my name is Debbie and I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2001. I've just passed my 11th year as a diabetic. Over the years, I've been up and down, with both my weight and my BG. I hope to lose some weight (I'm about 120 lbs overweight)

My last A1-C was 7.2, a little high. I hope to get better control of my diabetes and my carbs and have a better report when I return to the doctor in August.

My specific goals for this week is to drink my water daily, keep track of my daily food intake (paying close attention to the carbs) and to exercise some each day.

Over the next 8 weeks, I hope to lose 10 lbs. At least a start.

Hi all my name is Bonnie and I was diagnosed pre-diabetic November2010 and reversed it by March 2011 I had lost 30 lbs. I was so proud. Unfortunatly because I did so well I thought I learned all I needed and slowly went back to bad habits and gained back the 30 lbs. I have not been rediagnosed, however I know I will end up back there if I do not change now, I hope its ok that I joined this board I want it to remind me daily that I am back on the fast track to diabetis and I don't want to be.

My goals for this first week are: Drink 8 glasses of water a day, Track daily food, Get to the gym atleast 2 times and walk at home atleast 3 times.

Good luck to everyone!
Bonnie

Have a Blessed Day!
Bonnie

I am looking forward to this challenge. My goal is to cut back on sweets and chips as well as dropping about 15 to 20lbs by the end of the challenge. My exercising is about 3 days a week but would love to increase it to 5 days a week. Good luck to us all!!!!

Been cleared for exercise once again ! So this is a great program and will help me get back into the swing of things. My personal goal is to get my A1c down from the 7.7 from two weeks ago. Endo wasn't sure why it was so high seeing that my blood sugar readings are mostly in the 125 average. So she has just changed meds and is now going to let me exercise for the next 6 weeks ! I want to get it back down to 6.5 and work myself back up to working out for 60 mins/day. We will start out slow and work my way up! Have only been doing a 30 min walk with the Pups daily. So I have a long way to go to get back to where I was last year. I'd like to lose 8 pounds, that would be a bonus! Wishing everyone success !

I've been working at controlling my diabetes without meds since Dec 2011. I was making progress until I entered an extremely stressful period of life. Since then consistency in anything has gone out the window. I hope this challenge will help me regain at least some consistency in eating, drinking water, and exercising, and in staying away from sweets...my comfort foods. Even if I miss some days it will be better than the past month has been. I need to lose 25 pounds but will be happy not to gain during these stressful days.

I'm another person that is grateful for the email this morning. I joined the 8-week diabetes Weight Loss Challenge June 2011. Did not even complete 2nd week of the challenge.

Goal to lose 8 pounds by end of 8 weeks.
Exercise 5 times weekly.
Track nutrition --every single bite --morning to night: 3 days each week.

Good Health and Good Luck to Each of Us.

I'm Kay, I'm 50
I have been 'over-weight' most of my life and yo-yo dieting all that time. I know that's not good for me, or my family. I have managed to lose over the past year nearly 30 pounds, however that is not nearly enough. My ultimate goals are:
1. To be medication free
2. to reach my goal of 160
