the main thing i want to do with this challenge is to get control of my eating habits. i'm pre-diabetic and want to control IT before it controls me. for some reason (i'm guessing depression) i'm always hungry these days. between boredom (unemployed for 'bout a year now and can't seem to find work that pays more than minimum wage), sick and dying family members (aunt, mom, son), a difficult relationship (don't ask) and other normal day-to-day stresses i seem to be turning to food for comfort. i need to break this unhealthy habit.

Peace,
Cheryl

I am pre-diabetic. This was hard for me to accept. I recently had a health check up which I was way over-do for. Due to lack of insurance it was hard for me to really manage my health. So I avoided doctors all together. My job finally allowed for me to get checked up. I have a pretty detailed family history and diabetes has affected my family in more ways than one. My grandma was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 30. When I was just 26 I was pregnant with my son and diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I put on a huge amount of weight, lost it and have kept it off for the most part. I was in no way prepared to hear that I was pre-diabetic and my numbers are dangerously close to what a diabetic person numbers are. I am 29. I saw how my grandma suffered and this is not what I want for myself.
My doctor put me on a medication and has encouraged me to join a weight loss program. I thought this was the perfect group to join. I am told to stay on my medication for 4 weeks and we will do blood work again. I am hoping that I can fight this disease because I do not want to spend my life having to take an insulin shot or risk losing a limb. I want to wish everyone on the group the best of luck and I am always looking for buddies and support. My name is Danielle!

Completing this challenge is my goal. I do not have diabetes but have a history of it in my family and I feel that it is not far away if I don't change my eating/exercise habits now. I have lost 25 lbs within the last year but have hit a plateau for the last six months and need something to spur me back to action and prevent me from sliding all the way back to the bad habits that got me to my heaviest weight. I am hoping that this challenge will give me the impetus to get back on track to better health.

I plan to use this structured program to help me do the things I know I need to do - at the same time. 1) Exercise daily, 2) Reduce sugar and fat intake, and 3) Eat balanced meals and track.

Paraphrasing a favorite quote - Be patient with yourself. Goals are stars to steer by; they are not sticks to beat ourselves with.

I have type 2 diabetes. A few months ago, I started taking a small dose of insulin at bedtime each day. Along with my efforts to eat better and exercise more often, I was able to reduce my A1C reading to 6.9 (Canadian scale). Hooray! But my weight has started to creep up again, for reasons not exactly clear to me. So, here I am with new goals:
1. Re-establish a solid eating plan, using the Nutrition Tracker daily.
2. Continue Aquafit classes three times a week but add some strength training on the "off" days.
3. Lower my A1C results even more so that I can reduce my oral medication.
4. As a result of better diet and consistent exercise, lose an additional 30 pounds.

Hi,

My family doctor found out I had high sugar levels in my blood about a year ago... It's about time I do something about this pre-diabetes situation!

I want to move 10 minutes daily (it can be just to go outside and walk)
I want to track my food so I can see where are my mistakes and correct them
I want to listen to a high-energy song everyday, to keep being motivated
I want to drink 8 glasses of water everyday.

I want to complete this challenge in 8 weeks' time and hope to significantly lower my sugar levels.

Got my bloodwork back and my glucose was 100. Just figured out that this was prediabetic. Dr. didn't say anything about it other than I should excercise more. My goal is to learn to eat right and excercise consistently. I do ok for lunch: apple, banana, cucumber, tomato, spinach, carrot, and half a peanut butter sandwich. The problem is that when I get ghome, I eat an entire meal while I cook dinner. Also those $1.00 supersize sweet teas don't help!

My Goals are to:
Finish the course before me
Learn to truly care for myself: spiritual, physical and emotional health
Put the brakes on: bad food choices, habits that have kept me sick
Gain control over this area of my life and reverse diabetes if possible
Reach 185 pounds

May you all be blessed in this journey...best where most needed. emoticon

My doctor said I need to lose weight so I guess that is one of my goals. I am pre-diabetic so another goal is to eat healthier. My father's family is where the diabetes comes from. I do not want to become a diabetic. My husband was diagnosed a year ago. He is having a hard time eating healthier so hopefully I will learn things to incorporate into meals and help him also.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHERE GOD WANTS ME TO BE AT THIS VERY MOMENT
MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU WITH ALL THOSE ANNOYING LITTLE THINGS AND MAY YOU REMEMBER THEIR POSSIBLE PURPOSE

My goal for this challenge is to complete it successfully, following each step and sticking through to the end. I am a practicing certified life coach, and have had tremendous success throughout my life setting and achieving goals of every kind... except where it comes to my weight. By succeeding at this challenge, I will prove to myself that I can practice what I preach to my clients.... set reasonable, small goals to set yourself up for success.

Most of my family has diabetes. I recently found out I was diabetic a few months ago. My goal is to lose about 20-30 pounds, continue to be motivated, exercise 3 times a week and to stick to the healthy weekly menu plan I started on Sunday. I'm working on a menu plan for next week.

It takes time to figure out what will work for yourself and how you will handle things. Learning my body's reactions took a while but I was serious and learned a lot about myself. Frequent testing, constant vigilance, and learning everything I could about diabetes, but also about ME. It can be done. It is possible to make it successful.

I just want to get my blood sugar lower and keep it low while eating right. Currently just a piece of bread or a bite of potato and my blood sugar spikes. My goal is to eat a balanced diet, exercise some even though limited due to a foot surgery pending, and be able to lower blood sugar with a balanced diet.

I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes 2 weeks ago and I want to get all my levels back where they belong and keep them there. I know that means a new lifestyle, I have had trouble doing that while I tried to loose weight but I will do it now, I don't want to take more meds, and I sure dont want to have to use needles.

Goals:
perfect and follow a proper eating plan
successfully complete the 8wk workout challenge then go on to the next challenge
drink half my weight in water everyday

This is day one for me. I have been diagnosed with pre-diabeties and know what my husband went through when he was still alive. My mother has lost most of her one foot and part of her other one and I do not want to end up like that.

So my goals are:
1-set and keep a healthy diet plan.
2-get up moving for at least 20 minutes each day (seeing how I'm raising 4 grandsons this shouldn't be hard lol)
3-drink more water each day.
4- STOP grabbing a snack during the night when I get baby Nicks bottle!
5-lose 3lbs this week (total of 20lbs during this 8week challenge)

That is a good idea NancyPat1. My diabetes educator had told me that as well. Especially if I am having something that is high fast absorbing carbs.

YOU can change that - someone posted a message about a woman whose doctor told her to exercise for 15 minutes after each meal and that it would lower her blood sugar significantly. You might try to schedule your exercise around the meals. Just a thought.

I am here because I have recently been diagnosed and I now realize that I have a disease and I have to face it and do everything I can to combat it. I was told to look at food and exercise as medication to treat my diabetes. To be healthy I need to follow the right prescription of diet, exercise, oral medications, and blood testing.

My Goals
1. Learn all I can about diabetes.
2. Create a menu/daily meal schedule to keep my blood sugar in check. Including tracking my food.
3. Exercise for 15 minutes 5 times a week. Slowly add on 5-10 minutes a day each week.

Want to get off Actos and... the most exciting thing is... it looks like THIS just might happen!!! Will know for sure probably at the beginning of April!

This is my first day and I have tracked my food for today. My goal is to plan my meals for the week, exercise at least 15 minutes each day and track my food each day. I am very excited my daughter found this site and we are doing this together. emoticon
