Day 5 for me and I'm still going strong. Got in my cardio and ST yesterday and today. Still having some side effects from the meds, will be glad when my body adjust to them.

I think this is day 7 of week one. I did fine this week, my blood sugars were very good (my average for the week was 104 which is unheard of for me). I am noticing that strength workouts tend to lower my blood sugar more than the cardio and I don't quite know how to adjust my insulin for that yet. I guess I will keep tracking and see what patterns there are and go from there. It'll be awhile before I can get in to see my endocrinologist so I will do the best I can. I'm looking forward to seeing him again though and having my a1c done...I think he will be proud. I certainly am emoticon

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Guess I was off on my days. This is W1D6 according to challenge.

Very stressful day. Took it out on Lunch but recovered in the middle of it. Didn't do has bad as I normally would have. I took a long walk in the heat. Probably not the smartest thing but oh well. Drank lots of water and used sunscreen. See blog for more details later.

Love ya'll,

Week 1, Day 1: Tracked what I ate for breakfast via my SparkPeople App for my phone.
Did week 1, day 1 of couch to 5k on the treadmill (20 minutes). I was scared, because I've been afraid of low blood sugars since I was put on insulin, but surprisingly my sugars were 145 after! Of course, it was a "dirty" number, because I had just eaten breakfast, but I was happy it didn't drop too drastically.
Then I went to meet some friends and could feel it dropping, so I ate a hard candy and then felt fine.
I just ate lunch and am about to put it in the tracker and plan on doing the same for snacks and dinner.
Feeling VERY optimistic about this journey! :)

Just a plug

I've used glucerna off and on for many years. It's helps keep my blood sugar from spiking and it helps curve cravings. Also I love the fact you can map your walking route on there. It tells you how many miles you walk.

According to the scale, I've lost 6 lbs. (or 10 lbs., depending on where I put the scale). emoticon Not sure I really believe that, but at least I'm making progress and that's the important thing. I was trying to do the Daniel Fast with a friend, but my blood sugar has shot up, so I'll put that on hold.

I won't lie folks it's been hard for me to keep calories under control this first week. It's the cravings I hit when I'm tired. I need to learn to go take a nap or go to bed. Exercise has been fun and I'm enjoying it.

My calfs are sore (OUCH) any suggestions on taking the soreness out?

Heading on to week 2 ya'll

I started this challenge late yesterday and really glad I did. I complete my work out and now I'm reading and learning all I can. I have to remember this is not a diet but a life change. I had a bowl of Cherrios this morning and walked 30 mins on the treadmill. Not finished with my exercise for today but because of surgery on my foot have to pace myself.

This is my 5th day into the challenge...so far I've been in the upper ranges of my calorie allotment for the day, but I'm doing very well with carbohydrate intake. It's been within or below the ranges for the day. The SP menu keeps me mindful of how much and what I'm eating. It's very helpful.

I went over calories yesterday. Our roommate keeps bringing in temptations. First it was M&M cookies had 4 of them! Now when I get up at 2330 he's got pizza waiting and says have some. How nice. I told him yesterday I was on a diet. He says yeah, tomorrow I'll start eating better. Well this time I held out no pizza. Cook a fabulously portioned breakfast. emoticon

Sweety, Do not give up. This is my first week and my fifth day. Yes, I know that it is hard. Wednesdays after we get out of church we usually go somewhere and it is usually a mexican resturant. I wonder sometimes if there is not a little bit of spanish in my heritage because it is like I cannot get enough of mexican food. The chips are good and someone told me that if you have not had a snack yet the most chips that you can eat is 12 of them without over doing it. I know that your a1c will be good when you have to take the bloodtest.. My doctor tells me that the a1c measures what it would for three months. Since you said that you blew it last night it might not be that bad when you go for the bloodtest.

W1D5 - I blew last night...we went to a great Mexican restaurant....I ate WAY TOO MANY CHIPS! I wasn't going to, but the table was so small, and I was so hungry by the time I got the folks to leave for dinner....I did eat the fajitas, and the pina colada was virgin(so, I kept all the sugar just none of the rum!).

Anyway - I'm doing well today, I hope to know what my A1c is next Monday...and, I want to make it through this weekend successful.

Day 3--I blew the calorie and carb count yesterday, and my fasting blood glucose shows that--159. I had made up for overeating at breakfast until dinnertime. I went to a workshop, and they had chicken salad sandwiches on croissant for the meal. I had that and a little fruit. Which was okay, but when I got back home, I was starving. I ate half a Gino's East thin pizza. I knew that put me back over the calorie count, so I went on and ate the Nestle's Dibs that I really wanted.

Back on the horse today...I exercised for 30 minutes and am following the SP menu. Hoping to stay on track today.

W1D2:
Hello, I'm Megan. Just want to say that I'm considered an uncontrolled diabetic. For the fact of the matter is I'm a bad diabetic. I have been consistent in treatment regiments nor checking my bg regularly. My fasting today was 225 at 10pm. I'm encouraged by this site. I truly believe that SP will help me become a good diabetic. One who keep her dr appts, keeps track of bg, and takes her medicine. I'm a nurse and its really embarrassing to goto the doctor and have not done these things.

My goal this next month is to get under the 200's for fasting bg, if not closer to normal. I would ultimately like to see 6 months of being in the 90's. That would be a dream come true. My moods are more stable, my immune system is better, and overall I feel good about myself.

For me being diabetic its hard to lose a lot of weight quickly unless its water weight. It's hard to lose any weight actually. I have not been under 200 since I was in high school and I think then it was 190. My goal is to be 145lbs. I would like to do it in a year. This is wishing but truly hoping.

Any support y'all can give would be great. I'm new to this area and need all the ideas and support I can get.
Sincerely,
Megan emoticon

Daily check in day 3 of week one : Started out with low blood sugar drank kool aid with sugar to correct went back to bed, got up had breakfast and out the door to run errands. Did fight the urge to eat out at lunch, but came home and had lunch. Starting to get the hang of planning what to eat and how much.

Week 1 Day 7 for me - and feeling good about it. Unfortunately have been having dizzy spells since Tuesday but they are much better now - had to stay flat for most of Tuesday and just move slower since then - but all is going ok

Going to go and up date my blogg re doc's visit today - good and bad - but am thinking positive.

Take care

I got up this morning at 5:15 am and fixed my husband his lunch and then I decided that I would go back to bed for at least an hour. Well, that did not work because I could not go back to sleep because I was not sleepy anymore. I got up to check my blood sugar and it was 89 no big problem so I ate and then I cleaned the kitchen and the livingroom, swept and mopped. Then I did my exercises for the cardio from sparkpeople. It was kind of fun and very tiring. After that I had to pick up my sister in law to take her to her doctor appointment. We ate lunch and then we shopped a little bit more and then I went home and laid down. Too much activity.

Week one, day 4. Went to the Drs. today about a big sore on my foot. Thank heaven he isn't worried about it. Concerned, and I need to watch it closely, but it isn't an ulcer, or open. Looks like a blood blister. Anyhow. he weighs me every time I walk in the door. Since I was there a few months ago I have lost over 7 lbs. I'm so pleased!

BS this morning was up a bit, to 138. Hope it comes back down in the morning. Should check it before dinner tonight instead of at bedtime, just for something different.

Have worked my butt off today. Hope it counts as exercise! Too tired now to do much else....

The second day of week 1...My blood sugar was 116 when I woke up at 3:30 a.m. (way early for me), and I was really happy about that. Since I couldn't sleep, I decided to do some exercises (aerobic ball for 20 minutes). Then I read some articles on SP. I was hungry by the time I got sleepy again, so I ate a banana and went back to bed. When I took my blood sugar again at the time I normally do, it was 122, which I was again happy about.

The menu provided on the weight loss challenge has been really eye-opening. I've been eating way too much food and too many carbs, especially since I have an underactive thyroid and diabetes. I went to breakfast with the husband this morning and tried to make some better choices. I went over the calories allotted for breakfast, but I did only eat half of what was served, and I ordered pancakes with wheat germ and traded one of those for a buckwheat pancake that my husband ordered. Overall, I wasn't too disappointed with my choices, just know that it was too many calories. But I'll try to compensate with lunch and snacks.

I received an encouraging e-mail in regards to my exercise status when I first posted my goals; I really appreciated it.

Have a lot of work to do, but I'm going to ride my bike (letting the dog run alongside...her favorite thing) and maybe go do some water aerobics. Also, a friend is headed over to use my guest room (her house is being shown and she needs a nap) so I may spend some time talking to her.

w1d7 and still going strong. Some days I did go a little over with protein and under with fats. Never thought I could get a low count for fats. Yesterday was great and I stayed in my nutritional ranges. I really like that the food tracker has the ranges listed. I'm eating lots of veggies and getting used to the eating plan. It's been ages since my insides felt this good. Before I had stomach aches and gas (sorry). It's amazing how not eating fast foods can affect the body is such a good way.

Remember to keep up with the small steps! We CAN do this.

w1d4, just did the 2nd of my workouts, again feeling the toning exercises but that's what they're there for! did a 4 mile cycle as my cardio and just over half of it is uphill, and there was wind trying to stop me, lol. the cycle was a bit of a 'do i have to' before i went. i cycle for my messages as it gets me fit, gets me out of the house and saves on petrol!
my blood sugars have been great since i started all this, looking good for the HbA1C. A question for all the insulin diabetics on the forum, is anyone else finding hypos becoming a daily thing? i tended to run high and now i'll get a hypo at least once a day, messes up the calorie intake!

We mostly had a great anniversary yesterday...went to a steak house...I only ate 2 slices of the bread, and we had no dessert.

Today, I am hurting with some gut issues...but will try to stay on task.

ChangingMarilyn...I think you are describing VERTIGO - the crystals in our ears get messedup...I've gone through that..NOT FUN. Physical Therapy can help!

This should have been posted yesterday, but by the time I got home, I went to bed!

Day 2, week one. Spent the day at an amusement park with 4 of the grandkids. Girls went off on their own, most of the time, but I chased the 7 year old and his best friend around the park all day, until 10 last night. Wouldn't you know, I forgot my pedometer? But I got lots and lots of steps in. Had to eat "park food" for supper, so I did have a cheeseburger, and some French fries, but that's all I had - no ice cream, no sugar waffles, no cotton candy, no good stuff at all! So I don't think I did too badly yesterday.

Now today, I'm off to a picnic/pool party for one of the groups I belong too. Lets see how well I can do today...

Week 1 Day 5 for me - and it has not been a good one. Food wise good though

Woke up early (5 am) and went back to bed. Got up at 8:30 and couldn't walk as I was leaning to the left and extremely dizzy. This happened a year ago also - something to do with some crystals we have by our temple that keep us up straight going the wrong way - not nice at all. It is now 7 pm, have been up for bathroom time but nothing else but this time thought I would sit up for a bit and check email. Needing to go back and lay down soon though - tomorrow will be better
