The food thing helps a lot so I can see an immediate reading of what I have been eating. It is easy to lie to myself when not keeping track. My sugar were ranging 250-300. Now, they are anywhere between 130 and 160. That isn't bad considering I have only been donig this challenge for the last two weeks.

The Lord doesn't expect us to work harder than we are able. He doesn't (nor should we) compare our efforts to those of others. Our Heavenly Father asks only that we do the best we can - that we work according to to our full capacity, however great or however small that may be.

I have been tracking what I eat for two weeks now. Since my calories have increased because of my workouts, I am always under goal. I am not use to being able to eat that much. My girls are taking me to Red Lobster today and I am sharing my dinner with my youngest daughter. That will keep my numbers close to where they should be. I checked with Led Lobster website and already entered it in nutrition tracker.

Beginning week 3 today. I have faithfully charted foods/water/bs each day. It is insightful to see what nutrients you are not getting enough of and which you are over.

I am coming to the end of Week 3.and feel somewhat OK about how the week went.
I am noticing how parts of me feel physically strong and others areas that need to be strengthened.

I have been faithful to doing the resistance band workout every other day.
I have also been faithful to the cardio work and have increased my time.(Next week I will increase the intensity.)
I am also tracking the food I eat more than 3x's a week,(now that I have found some short cuts that make it quicker.)

I have planned or have things that are satisfying and healthy when I feel like I need a little something to eat.

I noticed that I was going over my recommended calorie goal and am really trying to stay in the calorie goal. (2 days staying with in the recommended calorie goal.)Tracking my food really helped me see this.

I have taken time to write a few things down that are important to me and am slowly working at changing my thinking to what "I can do!" I don't have to do them right away but I am giving them some thought.

I really like to read the posts how your week has gone, I don't feel so alone with this journey.

All the best to You.

Debbie.

Although I'm not following the meal planners, I am tracking my food good or bad to see what works best for me. I want to spend some time investigating menu plans to see what will fit in with meal planning for my large family. I'm finding that I'm a binge eater, and that if I don't have enough healthy choices available I will be over in one area or another. Paula

Hi All

This is my last day of week 3, and I think I have done bad this week. Ate out twice and didn't track any of my food for those days. I just know I went way over my calories, haven't worked out the past few days either. Did count some of my steps, because I still walked at least 8000 steps a day, I think that counts as at least 20 min of work out time. I did do the walking fast did laundry and worked around house too during those couple of days. So maybe won't be so bad at weigh in.

no matter how hard it seems to get I feel so good when I do get to where I want to be each week.

Week 3 day 6 for me.

Week 3 is almost over and I reached all my goals except the exercising one. Been running from morning till evening the past couple of days, and still got 8000 steps so must count as something. Am very tired today but I will get moving around very soon. Better get to work out now before I talk myself out of it.

no matter how hard it seems to get I feel so good when I do get to where I want to be each week.

Morning.
I have been faithful to my exercising this week and tracking my food. I have learned another thing so the tracking is not so time consuming.
I found that I can add food eaten the day before eg. my breakfast which is often one of 2 plans i use and copy it for the next day.

And to be honest and tell everyone out there.......I have not stayed within the recommended calorie goal daily. This is the challenge that I will work on today.
I will stay within my calorie goal today.

Be Strong.
Cheers!
Debbie.

Week 3/Day 3

Did good today! Worked with my trainer at the gym. Boy he makes me work. But it's all for a good cause. (me)
Yesterday I had Physical therapy for a injured hip flexor. It's getting better.
Now tomorrow I will be in p/t for my right foot. A while back I partially tore the talofibular ligament in my foot. It just hasn't been right ever since. This will be the second time for PT on that foot.

I have been struggling with eating and exercise the past few days. Had company last week and now have again this week. But not going to use it as an excuse not to exercise this week. I really need to get back in gear. I haven't tried any of the sp videos yet. I have so many dvd's I have been doing. But think I will check into the sp vidoes this week and see how I can do. .

I plan on this being a good week, committed more to tracking and working out.

I'm really struggling with my eating. The past two days have been awesome for cardio. Yesterday I did a 30 minute bike ride with intervals and today I did a 45 minute bike ride trying to keep a consistent speed around 12 miles per hour. I also did some swimming today. But my food intake was horrendous. It started this morning when I was hungry after my usual breakfast. I got to the school and they were having a lunch day so I grabbed some fries because I was starving. And then some chips. And then some more chips. Finally I felt full. A few hours later though I was starving again, so I ate my 200 calorie pizza, apple sauce and yogurt I brought for lunch. I was still hungry and I kept getting into the cookies and candy. In between I was drinking water too. I just don't get it. Hopefully I do better tomorrow.

When I first started using the tracker I was shocked by the calories, carbs, and fats numbers. I am still having trouble meeting my goals but I am usually pretty close which is a lot better than it used to be. I track my foods every day and I find it extremely useful. I am exercising every day and I am losing weight. Right now I have a 14 week stretch of loses and no gains with a net loss of 25.75 lbs. And the nutrition and fitness trackers have played a major roll in my success!

I'm also using the food tracker and the tool for inputting blood sugar. I'm having trouble with keeping my blood sugar under control. It seems the least little bit of something sweet makes it skyrocket when it used to not be that way. emoticon

I journal on Weight Watchers and I tend to overdo on my carbs which I really need to watch. I am eating more fruit and I'm enjoying the aerobics.

I am using the food tracker more and more each week. It shows me that I tend to overindulge when I am bored or undereat calories/carbs/fats and protein earlier in the day. I need to pay more attention to balancing my food intake.

I like the Nutrition tracker and I use it everyday...It is easier to be honest about my food when it is written down and calculated....At first when I started the program and began writing down my food I was shocked about the amount of calories I was eating....I was not eating allot but what I was eating was calorie dense. Last month in March it was lousy time with the food....I kept experimenting with food taking back "no, No foods". KNowing the whole time it was a bad idea. Well April is here and I can restart my food plan...Thanks for being out there people. emoticon emoticon my two friends arguing on my shoulders

I've been using the Nutrition tracker and the fitness tracker. I see that I don't eat enough protein and I eat too many carbs and fat. The biggest problem I have, though is that I don't actually get enough calories. I'm seeing a psychologist for help with my eating habits and she said that as long as I'm feeling okay and losing a little weight, I'm doing fine.

I was sick this week, so I didn't get to exercise for two days. That really messed up my weight loss. emoticon

Week 2 was a struggle but here I am on Week 3 and feeling better about getting through this challenge. I kind of stumbled through week 2 and I know I need to continue to work harder on tracking my food intake. I agree with NANALD, it is really helping being part of this challenge as I had gotten very lax about both tracking my food and exercising, avoiding exercise and using my chronic pain increases as an excuse to avoid the exercise. The challenge helps remind me to stay on track.

Hi everyone! I can't believe it is the start of week three. I just read the goals and am doing OK but can really use the work on snacks so that will be my focus. I am doing more strength and cardio than is listed but will add the new ones in to my tracker. I think what makes the biggest difference for me is tracking my food and exercise. It also really helps to be participating in a challenge because I have gotten lax at writing out my goals as evidenced by my Spark page! At any rate, I feel like I am gradually getting back on track and it is a good feeling to be sure! emoticon

I enjoy the tracker, but it becomes hard to change the information if you are on the diabetic watch. I was told to eat more protein, more fat, and less carbs because I tested to be a metobolic Protein Type! So as I track at the end of the day, the report tells me I'm off on things. It is the greatest tool for keeping me close to the desired calorie counts. Then to have it break everything down into carbs, proteins and fats is even better ! Great Wonderful!

emoticon emoticon emoticon Thank you! Sparktacular!

so it's showing egg whites have sodium, how is that possible? who knew? no wonder I could not reconcile manually, I never suspected they would, never looked there.

I just don't know how I'm going to get my salt hammered down below 1500, the new guidelines for someone like me... I routinely blow past 3k, and that's with a lot of scratch cooking.... grrrr...

NUSL8T you can find out the nutrients that each food contributes. Go down to the bottom of the page in the Nutrition Tracker and you will see a button called "See Today's Full Report". Click on it and you will get a detailed report of all the nutrients for all the foods/recipes you entered.

Very handy to find those culprits boosting the sodium etc.

Cheers,
Catherine

emoticon I adore that the food tracker is integrated with the recipe calculator & that we can do food groups; makes things so much easier.

I wish that we could tailor the macronutrient fats, carbs & proteins based on our personal recommended guidelines from our diabetes mealplans, and I wish it there was a way to calc glycemic loads.

emoticon i love that we can track other things like sodium, fiber, potassium, etc. I always blow my sodium limits and come in under on potassium & magnesiums. Working on these going forward, but I do wish there were a full report available by nutrient by food. Salt is killing me here & have to go in to edit each food to loook at the micronutrient loads...

The nutrition tracker has been helping me realize how much sodium I eat! I never realized how much sodium I was eating until I started using the tracker.

What I've learned about my eating habits is that I rarely go over my calories, but always go over my sodium. I also notice my snacking tends to be after work and night.

I've been trying to change the processed foods I eat and add more fruits and veggies to see if that helps with sodium.

I'm prediabetic so I don't test blood sugar, but I plan to return to my dr in about 6 months to get blood work redone.

Salt is in everything! Anything from a can or a package is a problem. I cook from scratch but it still can get me especially in soups of all places. The low salt broths are actually lowER salt and this is where it is coming from.

I find the Nutrition Tracker helpful to spot the culprits. If you go down to the bottom of the page, you will see a button called "See Today's Full Report". Click this and it will give you a detailed list of nutrients including salt for everything you have entered in the Tracker. Really helpful.

Cheers,
Catherine

I have mixed emotions about the tracker. My computer is super slow and waiting for the pages to load or reload is very time consuming. I have plenty of things in favorites and meals already made but even waiting for them to load is so slow. I have better luck using another tracker. I sometimes use the Mix and match meal planner because that seems to be faster.

The nutrition tracker has been helping me keep honest and when I stick to it, helps me see that I can keep my calories down.

My eating habits need some updating. I find the nutrition articles to be quite helpful and I am watching what I eat and seeing what it does to my blood sugars.

The feedback has helped me get my mind in the game not just food or exercise. I have really picked up my exercise, which a lot of times is more of a mind game, and as I begin to pay more attention to carbs and fats, I find myself saying "I can eat that" and am beginning to not feel so deprived.

My overnight blood sugars have been terrific. I am using less insulin and less insulin for meals. I am not losing weight but I know my body is responding positively to what I am doing so I am not going to stop trying. Right now I am just concentrating on the blood sugars by paying attention to what I eat and exercising.

Oh by the way, I just read the 10 ways of cheating on exercise machines, part 1 and 2. Boy, the author took all my best excuses. I took to heart her ways to get back on track.
Thanks!

I love all the trackers and reports that Spark offers! I like being able to print my monthly calendar to look back on my progress!! 'm still getting familiarized with all the "reports" and options there, but everything I've done/seen has been extremely helpful!!!

the nutrition tracker has been helping you. Yes, but I am pretty astue when I come to my eating.

What have you learned about your eating habits? Somedays I do not eat enogh. Especially the days I do not make my recovery drink - I don't get enough in

What have you been changing based on the feedback? Getting in more calories

How have your blood sugars been responding? wonderfully, they have been going down and boy am I gald,

The accountability has been very good - I am in physical therapy and approved workouts that have been paid for, so I am not doing the suggested workouts, but I am working out well. Glad this is here!!

I think I finally had a break-through week. Cleaned out all the extra junk food that's been accumulating. I have been faithfully tracking as well, which I think has been key to my progress. Lost five pounds in the first three weeks. Wahoo! I also checked out the reports comparing calories eaten versus calories burned. So many great tools on Sparkpeople.

If you go to the day of the meal you want copied, look above the particular meal and there will be a little "button" called "copy custom foods." Click on that, make sure it shows the meal you want to copy it to, and then click the date to be copied to.

Week 3 of the challenge. I did get most of my excercise in last week. I am still struggling alot with food cravings!! I find alot of time I do not track my dinner untill the next day and I need to stop doing this because sometimes at night I am still hungry and think I have ate enough, but the next day I realize I had more calories.

I knew you could copy a whole meal and have done it before, but now I can't remember how to do it, anyone who could refressh me on this I would be so thankful!

Slow down, enjoy the moment!

All went well for week three, other than having my left knee start acting up after dancing a couple dances at a wedding Friday night.

Things are going well. I have finally been able to get some fruit and I feel great. I also started walking as well.
