I love the Mock Wendy's Frosty. You can get the recipe off of Spark. I make my own hot chocolate by mixing skim milk, sugar free coca powder, and splenda. A lot of times instead of eating sweets, I will eat sunflower seeds that come in the shell.

I increase my greens, and even incorporate them in my smoothies. I do have treats, like allowable puddings and ice cream but rarely - portion control is an issue.

I cure my sweet tooth by eating a piece of fruit. It has natural sugar in it and is full of water. Doing great on week 3.

Sunny days coming. I love to be outside!

Kattee, I am not quite sure but if I had to say any one thing it would be my change of eating all around. All my meals, except an occasional one, have been controlled since June. I always finish with fruit at all three daily meals. That is the sweet craving for me. I noticed, also, that I don't drink as much diet soda as I did. I tried to eliminate it but gave up. I think it was taking away too much sweetness. I couldn't go cold turkey.

I sometimes would have sugar-free pudding for dessert. I grew up in a time when there was always dessert. My dessert now is fruit. For a snack at night, I usually have peanuts in the shell. It makes me have to work at it. Maybe, as they say, I cleansed my body by going on a controlled well-rounded eating style in the first place. I hate to call it a diet, it is an eating-style.

I would give it time, drink plenty of water (this helps), keep your hands busy at night, eat fruit for dessert, and don't give up. If you have a hobby like crocheting, any needlework, or do a puzzle. I also found that I don't eat at the computer because my fingers are too busy. Trick your mind and body. I sneak up on mine. Good luck and wish you well. You can do it!

@SLOWGYM, what factors helped you reach the point where you can control yourself around foods that were once a challenge?

I am fine at work. If someone brought in a batch of cupcakes, I would only eat one. Well maybe two :) At home, my family eats what I eat. If I were to make cupcakes at home, they would be devoured within 24 hours. Mainly be me!

I went from craving sweets all the time and then somewhere along the way since I began this in June, the cravings went away. I didn't realize it until this question was asked. I had a candy bar a month ago and it made me sick. Way too sweet. I am not saying I never eat any sweets, I do. Someone brought mini cupcakes to work the other day. Chocolate, my down fall. I had one and that was enough. I thought if I make cupcakes, I should make the minis. I do make sweet stuff for the family but I don't eat it like I use to.

Count me in with the "Portion Distortion" group!

I did find a saying that almost ALWAYS applies, although it does not necessarily stop me from overindulging...

ahem..."ONE is almost never enough; but TWO is ALWAYS too many!"...thank you

Going to the store and buy one ice cream is the only way to go. It is too easy to eat the box. I know I can't be trusted. I love potato chips but the saying "you can't eat just one" is me. Or do they mean one bag. I just don't buy them anymore. Heck, my grocery bill has gone down.

I thought I could eat one Skinny Cow icecream sandwich for desert each night. Yeah, right. Ate the whole box. If you have trouble with portion control like me, best not buy them. Convenience stores sell them seperately, you can buy one or two and have better control.

@SLW1299, yes the uncooked, slimy part, even though they are pasteurized.

Kattee, I hope you like the smoothie! What about the egg whites scares you? Taste? Uncooked?

There's no flavor difference with or without them; just a protein boost. As for the uncooked part, I use carton product (pasteurized) for safety concerns. It may seem weird at first, but when all blended together, you would never know it's in there. But I don't use egg substitute - just egg WHITES...invisible, tasteless, odorless, and not "slimy"...

But the protein powder is really good, too!!

How could I forget about dark chocolate? A few squares are perfect and I've never had the desire to eat an entire bar.

I haven't tried the Skinny Cow bars yet. I guess I am afraid that I will eat the entire box at one time. But I do enjoy their single serving ice cream cups.

@SLW1299, I am going to try your smoothie (the egg whites kinda scare me, maybe I will try yogurt/protein powder instead). Thanks for posting your recipe :)

@GEMINISUE, can you elaborate on your magnesium suggestion?

I don't have all that good stuff in the house. The last time I ate a candy bar it made me sick. I don't care if I ever eat another. I love fruit and eat it with every meal. That seems to keep the craving down. I love donuts but when I think about how I feel after I eat one I can easily walk on by. I am canning peaches so I made a peach pie without sugar. I buy the cool whip to add on top for a little sweetness. The peaches are so sweet naturally. My husband doesn't even object. I think it is just because he is use to it by now. I also keep dark chocolate candy bar broken in pieces in the freezer. I can't eat many pieces of dark chocolate so one or two pieces is all I need.

I cured my sweet tooth by raising my protein and fat intake (healthy fats), When I tried to go vegetarian my carb cravings were horrendous! So I have a serving of meat, fish or chicken everyday and I kept healthy fats in my diet like peanut butter, mixed nuts, whole milk, olive oil, a little butter, regular salad dressing. I also have two squares of good dark chocolate a day. I bought expensive chocolate because otherwise I would have eaten it all up right away. Since it was expensive I consider my two squares a real treat. One bar lasts two weeks that way! I also have yogurt for desert, I save it until I am watching tv, then eat it very slowly.

I can't control my portions on ice cream, doughnuts, Little Debbie type snack cakes, cookies, so I don't buy them. I am able to control my portion size on the fats I do eat. Cottage cheese and pineapple or apple slices and peanut butter also make a good desert.

I have a Skinny Cow Caramel or Chocolate Latte bar every night after dinner -- and before my bedtime snack!

It's 100 calories and only 19 grams of carbs.

IF you are fond of strawberry shakes here's a really amazing smoothie recipe:

1 ripened banana, frozen, peeled, chopped
5-8 frozen (unsweetened) strawberries, chopped
1/3 cup egg whites (carton product, adds PROTEIN)
America's Choice Flavored carbonated Water (Wal-mart brand) Strawberry flavor

Pour enough flavored water over chopped fruit and egg whites to cover in a stick blender container. Blend until smooth; may add chopped ice if it is not thick enough...just like a milk shake!!

You may substitute cottage cheese or (Greek?) yogurt for the egg whites, OR a scoop or two of chocolate flavored protein powder for that chocolate covered strawberry flavor!! By adding protein, you help to control the amount of carb entering your system, but it's the BEST for my sweet tooth - if I can keep it from my daughter...

I love mini chocolate covered bananas. Another treat I make is an ice cream float made with diet root beer or orange soda and about 1/4 cup no sugar added or fat free ice cream. Really satisfying without alot of calories.

For the past week or so, I've had a killer sweet tooth. I think I am handling it okay with low calorie treats once or twice a day. I seem to look at calories more than I do carbs, maybe I need to change that. But hey, at least I've stayed away from my old standby: Krispy Kreme donuts. My favs are yogurt, bosc pears, and mini icecream cones from Trader Joe's.

Now that you are more mindful of your food choices, what are some of your favorite treats when you have a sweet tooth?
