Sure! I didn't realize that it went beyond that at first but I think it is a great reminder not to abandon the good habits that have been started. See you there! Thanks!

WooHoo! I finished the challenge:) I did not lose a lot of weight but I did lose a couple of pounds and I am at the end of my weight loss so it is really slow going for me now. The biggest change for me was adding more days of cardio and a lot more strength and strength done correctly. I am actually beginning to see muscle development. What a change!! I learned that I can do more than I thought I could and was reminded that challenges are really key to my success. Thanks to everyone for your support!

I thought I posted, but I can not find. This is week eight, my FBS sugar have been in the 13o's. Moslty 133. I got some kind of stomach virus last week, it was not fun, and I think emoticon I have kicked this thing.

I have lost 12 pounds so far, and today my Fasting Blood Sugar was 136, and blood pressure was 117/73. That is with medication, and my ultimate goal is to be rid of medication. I am perculating along.

Stress Buster Challenge
Hello Everyone, emoticon
Well my last 2 weeks have been wrought with pain, but I did my best to get my minutes in each week. This week I have started off with doing today's exercises programed by s/p.
I will just deal w/ my knee each day and learn to work around it, I was feeling down friday and yesterday from what the ortho doc had to say. But as I have always said.... *I'm a tough ol'd b*tch, and will get through it.
Now as far as my plans, I plan on working out as I can each day and keep on this journey to it's end.
I had a pretty good day, got most of what I wanted accomplished
laundry, dishes, swept floors....etc, etc.
I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend and great new week.

completing week 8 and I ran ( well the best I could) the 100 meter.. did it.. I tried the 200 meter but with lung disease I just could not do it all, had to walk the last 1/2 ..
running for real is a lot different than the videos and bike and elliptical.. so I will stick to those ...
My weigh day is tomorrow- but I would be happy with the 7 pounds I have lost.. thank you for this great challenge .. I did not think I could do all of this and I did it !!
now do 60 min of cardio everyday and ST every other day.. best I have done in 6 years with the chronic foot pain..Had last surgery this past fall... now I can walk and run alittle-LOL

Well since the start of the year I am now down 5 pounds, and actually lost more weight this month then I had expected to be able to louse, which is a nice surprise to say the least. Glucose control never did get into range that I was looking at, but hay its been one of those months where high stress and being ill interested with a lot of things that might not have other wise had to deal with, such is life.

Saw my endo last week and he is pleased with my progress in general and has actually kept my meds the same save for increasing my night time insulin by 5 units - so all in all a good meet with him.

I enjoyed this challenge; it was my first foray into the 'World of Challenges' (lol) and I wasn't sure how it would go, but it was fine. Kudos to the SP coaches who have designed a wonderful program, clear, informative, and user-friendly - I feel I especially achieved good results with the workout portion. Coach Nicole, the videos you've done are brilliant!

Last but not least: I've lost 8-1/3 pounds during this challenge. While I was doing fairly well in loss, the challenge has both rejuvenated my motivation and given me some additional exercises and 'calories burned' options. I believe my fitness has improved. But best of all is my A1c. In June of last year it was 6.2 - which isn't bad, as these things go, but as most of you know, could be better. I chose to try to up the fitness and have tighter control of diet. Yesterday I got the results from the latest A1c: the magic number was 5.3%!

A big THANK YOU to SP for this challenge. And m'self, I plan to sign up for another round. If that's allowable, that is...

Completed week eight finally. The last week was tough as we were renovating some and everything all torn up. I have really enjoyed this challenge. My computer tore up through some of it. So there has been rough times but I have made it through and now I know what to do when I get off track. I have a guide to help me through this.

Completed week 8!!!
What worked for me during this challenge was tracking my meals and exercise. My BS readings were lower and consist not all over the place like before. I followed Spark meal plans on some days and used my own. I found that the days I on stayed on Spark meal plans and exercised daily resulted in controlled morning readings. I did not lose any weight and did not gain any weight. I will continue to track, track, track.
Thank you for this challenge, I will continue to follow the plan.

Wow. The eight weeks are already gone. My main reason for joining this particular challenge was fo rthe extra motivation. I have been on SP since August and the journey has been a good one. This winter I was on a 5% challenge. That ended and shortly thereafter this one appeared. It really helped keep me on track.

My BS numbers have been very good since starting in August so I was on my way with that. I've eliminated one diabetic pill. I think this challenge, by providing motivation, and helping in addtional weight loss, has kept me from having to go back on that pill.

I lost an additional 12 pounds, with a total of 72. The journey continues! The biggest addition this challenge brought me was the incorporating strength training in. In the mid-to-late 90s I did strength training everyday. Then circumstances happened and I quit. In 2006 I expereinced herniated discs in my neck. For a while I wouldn't have been able to do STing. Now I've found things through SP that allow me to incorporate some things in without straining the affected ares. I continue to have problems from the discs, even after surgery, but I certainly can do things with lower body and some things in upper body. Thanks for the videos that gave me the insight into some of that.

I plan to continue my journey and I will continue to stop by here and check in when time allows. I wish each of you the best in your continuing journeys.

I just finished the SP 8-Week Diabetes Weight Loss Challenge. My fasting blood sugar has been between 90 - 100. I lost an additional 8 pounds during this challenge, for a total weight loss of 15 pounds since last fall. Even though I did not measure myself when I started exercising, I went down in pant size from a 12 to a 10. This was my first challenge and I absolutely loved it. I learned so much about Diabetes control, and about myself. SP is an amazing site that offers so much help and support. I love the recipes, the exercise videos, the trackers, the coaches and team leaders, and the wonderful SP friends who have been so supportive. With so many things in my life that I have no control over, I have learned that there is one thing I can control... and that is me! My goal from the very beginning has been to love myself enough to improve my health by taking better care of myself, one day at a time. I am so grateful for SP and I look forward to many more challenges!

Today I finished the eight week of this challange. Tomorrow morning I will step on the scale to see if I lost more than the two pounds from the early stages of this challange. I will however continue working out and tracking both nutrution and exercies on my trackers. I have enjoyed the vidio exercises and plan to continue incorperating them in my healthy life styld changes.

I lost almost 13 lbs, made exercise a regular routine, as well as traching food and activity, and I am definitely more fit than I was 8 weeks ago. I also am free of intense food cravings (refined carbs). My diet is much healthier, and I know I am, too.

I agree.....I loved this challenge....not so much the latter parts because as you say, it is difficult to get down on the floor but some of those I did lying down on the bed....not as good, I guess, but still it works....and I really love those dumbbell and resistance band workouts.....they have become part of my daily staples ....as well as the chair exercises of Anne Burnell....:)
that is awesome, Karen.....I know that I am in much better shape now than when I first began this challenge.....I totally agree...this would be a good challenge for anyone, whether they had diabetes or not......

I really enjoyed this challenge. I lost some weight during this challenge. In fact, I reached one goal and that was to get UNDER 250 pounds. I did that today! SO, I am happy dancing.

I also exercised more than I had been and I know that pays off. I have more energy and stamina. My blood sugar counts are in a super level right now and monday I get the results of my A1C test. I am really eager to see the numbers show.

I was able to do most all of the exercises that were given us to do. I did have problems in the last weeks though with the floor exercises. My knees keep me from getting up and down off the floor. I am doing better, but, right now that isn't a good thing for me to do.

However, I kept up with all the exercises you gave us in the first several weeks, and I added lots of Chair aerobics and strength dvd's to my routines. I find I love the resistance bands and dumbbells. WE are now friends. tee hee hee

I LOVED this challenge! I told some of my NON diabetic friends about it and they are looking into it. I figure the dietary and exercise parts are good for everyone regardless of how there bodies handle blood sugars.

Have a joy filled day. IS there a sequel to this challenge? Karen emoticon

I exercised 6 days a week and even began a 5K training program from sparkpeople. I tracked my nutrition every day and kept my calories in range the entire time. I had a dr. appt. earlier this week and he said I have reversed my diabetes!!! My fasting blood sugar has been averaging around 85 with more and more 70s appearing! My cholesterol is 153 with my HDL, LDL and triglycerides doing fantastic! My liver and kidney functions are better than normal and my heart is great. My blood pressure was 106/68!!! I have NEVER felt better!!!

Thanks for the encouragement Pat!!! I appreciate you!
I work in a multidisciplinary clinic and we opened up a physical therapy department last week. The therapist allowed me to drop by this afternoon and 'visit'. We went through appropriate use of equipment and I asked her to focus on bands. My Leslie workout has helped me so much...but this chick showed me ways to enhance my workouts and get more results for less. The main man came in and asked me what my biggest concern was. I told him I was upset at not losing more than .5#/week. He reminded me that muscle weighs more than fat. I had to laugh and ask just how much muscle could be hiding out under all my fat....he said when my body got tired of lugging the excess it would go.
Therefore...I'm gonna keep Sparkin' only with new intensity. We can do this!!!!

Keep Sparkin'!

TATTER 2 ponds a month is great I too dropped size but no weight. Yesterday was a disaster day for me. I too have mobility issues after a back surgery weak left leg. I was doing great with it all till I started sitting at the computer way too long,
I have such low back pain now. Yesterday was the first day probably this year but definitely with the challenge. I had to go to a Pain specialist and my tailbone is inflamed. I just want to stand up or walk all day. It is called COCCYdinia and it is just tail bone pain. Now I know why dogs and cats yelp when you step on their tails.

BOTTOM line is I DID great till yesterday i have done my 3.5 mile walk outdoors and that helps but I am doing well with the diabetes food tracking and exercising and its good.
Hiugs Pat in Maine.
Just because these 8 weeks are almost over PLEASE do not slacken off.
This has to be a healthy good lifestyle not just a good 8 weeks Pat.

I'm continually amazed at what my body chooses to do! It has its own system. My A1C is now in control and I average below 100 on my BS checks. I have always made consistency my priority and although I slack occassionally, I am motivated to just keep going and looking at the big picture. My flexibility limitations bother me...I would love to be able to get up and down easily to do floor exercises. But I use alternative moves that, over the last couple of months, have increased my ability to climb stairs and bend and stretch more easily. Weight loss has become frustrating, but I have lost size and the weight will follow. I've been encouraged by a trainer that tells me my body was so used to inactivity that as I replace fat with muscle, the scales won't be as kind...I see so many others dropping 100# in a year...and I'm averaging 2#/month...but my lifestyle has changed and I'm very pleased at what I have accomplished. This team was a good motivation tool!!! Congrats to all the finishers!!! Keep Sparkin'!!!

Keep Sparkin'!

What I really enjoyed was tracking what I ate. This has made realize what I should eat and avoid. The improvement is that I am starting to make better healthy choices when it comes to food. The difficult part was trying to do the exercise every day. I go to school and every moment I have I tend to be doing homework or research. However, I do know I am going to continue to do my best to incorporate some sort of exercise during the week.

I'm thrilled! My A1C went down from 9.8 to 6.3 and I'm down 27.4 pounds since November! I am still doing the challenge just got one week behind when I couldn't meet the exercise goals when I had a bad chest cold. I'm still at it and loving the "new me"! I actually arrange my schedule around working out now and that's a WOW moment for me! I even work out when I don't feel like it and am so happy afterwards! My eating habits are definitely better but still need improvement. I track my foods almost every day and use the nutrition tracker for guidance throughout the day! I love the support I've gotten from my spark friends along the way! It's fun getting to know each other and to help each other through this journey we call life!

I dropped in as a co-leader to help out welcoming new people, but did not get much information as to what I should do. My Spark e-mails just do not get to me.
I have had a really great time talking to so many people and I must say I have really fallen in love with what strength training I was able to do. I love the resistance bands but my long hair did not. I had to take precautions there and now I am better able to not get tangled with the triceps curls with bands behind my head. My hair became entangled with the band as it contracted and it was a painful situation to be in DH came to my rescue. Now I quickly get the hair in to a swim cap in fact it was the only way to do it for me.
The Dumb bell workout was great for the first part but the mat routine was difficult with a back problem I modified where I could but it was a big challenge for a number of people. Especially us seniors not so limber older ones.
Since I did not get any e-mails from the team I just did what I could to encourage others. I did learn a great deal from all of this. I went in to this very aware of how many diabetics there are out there and the numbers are scary. I do wonder if Spark anticipated so many people would join the challenge. I really appreciated you putting together the exercises and alternatives as you did.
Thank you I enjoyed being a small part of this massive endeavor. Thanks Coach Nicole you have helped me to finally start using my 12 years old Resistance Band sand my fitness ball that used to always be my computer seat. Now I use it as another fitness tool. MY goal is to buy myself a new set very soon. Thanks Pat in Maine.
Now I will be on to week 8 to see what you have in store for me. emoticon emoticon

I didn't finish the challenge - the last two weeks work out were too hard for me and I don't see an alternative. I will be using the rest of the information so it was a good time for the first few weeks. Thanks and I'll try again later when I'm more fit.

I see that Weeks 1 & 2 are no longer showing for discussion. Will those of us who are behind still have an opportunity to finish? We need the same access as those who are on schedule. The prizes are nice but they don't really matter. We're mostly after the weight loss and control of our problems.
