Week 8 - Day 1 - Wednesday, Jan. 18th:
I did 30 minutes of walking and a 10 minute cardio video warm up.
I did the exercise ball videos and the 3rd day bootcamp videos.
I will track my food today - and continue working towards more fruits and vegetables.
Will make certain to get in my 8 glasses of water.

Another good day today. I exercised an extra 5 minutes and stayed within my calorie range. There was a lot of chocolate and other crap at work and I was able to resist it all. It did not feel difficult today either. I hope I can keep myself control to prove to myself that I can.

I have had a number of good days since my binge last week. I have developed my longer term goals for once this challenge is over. And I am feeling good about myself and my ability to lose the weight I need to. My fasting blood glucose is also coming down slowly with my weight. I appreciate the help that my spark supporters have given me

Haven't written in a couple of days after a bad binge at the end of week 7. It reminded me that I still have a ways to go. Yesterday was a great day and even though today is Christmas, one of my gifts to myself is to have a good day and be proud of myself. I am changing and using the excuse, "it's Christmas" is not a change. The holidays would have been a time do gaining weight if it wasn't for this challenge. Instead I have lost 10 pounds over the last 7 weeks, something I have been unable to do in years. I have more to go and am gaining the confidence that I will get there. However, I am not there yet and although I have come a long way, I have to more consistent. Working towards a healthy New Year!

Today is the last day of the challenge for me. It's been a great 8 weeks, and I'm well on the way to making the new habits a lifestyle. I couldn't believe it when I went to McDonald's today and ordered the oatmeal for breakfast! I was still out and about for lunch, so I went to McD's again and ordered the daily double (not the meal as I usually would) and threw away half the bun--had to overcome a great psychological hurdle to do that! Thanks to everyone for your encouragement along the way.

Week 8 has been going just fine. I usually have a slightly larger breakfast on Saturday or Sunday. Yesterday it was eggs, today it was an apple and peanut butter. I'm glad to be doing well, and I plan to continue and make this a lifestyle and not a diet.

Dropped two pounds, and an inch around my thighs--thanks, I think, to the neuropathy physical therapy in addition to my regular workouts... only trouble is, my blood sugar keeps crashing! 2:00am, it was 50... yikes.

If it keeps up, I'll have to talk to my endo about lower doses... which won't hurt MY feelings any! Kind of the reason for all of this, y'know? LOL

Here it is Week 8 and I have lost another #. So right now I'm even with the beginning weight. This here is the last week to have a loss!

W8D1: FBS 89 That looks so nice ! Now this week I really want to focus on the weight. See the
8/7 Endo tomorrow and nutritionist. They are going to have to start seeing things from where
I am at. 100g/day of carbs isn't enough for my personal body to function right on. I'm so
fatigued, weak and this morning I didn't take my insulin because I was sure that I'd taken
it. The protein was so high with less fiber so now I am constipated, my right kidney is
waxing and waning due to the kidney stone and I don't need more problems. Thanks
SP Nutrition Tracker and the daily report. I was just hitting the button for points but today
I read it. Not to go under 120 Carbs/day and listed all the complains that I told them about
a week ago Friday. So they ran blood tests for Mono, Lyme Disease and thyroid! No
word from them on the test so I'm sure that they where negative. Tomorrow they listen!
Tracked food, fitness, water, fruits & veggies and fiber ! 30min mile with Pups, and 30 min
aerobics videio and 30 min gardening ! WooHoo

W8D2: FBS 170 Tracked food, fitness, fruits, veggies, fiber and water! Pups 30min mile! Then
8/8 30mins in the garden, 20min resistance bands video, 15 min stability ball video! Good
day after I got the blood sugars down again.

W8D3: FBS 91 Tracked food, fruit, veggie, water, fitness and fiber! Pups 30min mile, 60 min
8/9 mowing the lawn with hand push mower, 30mins gardening. Exercise raised the BS
200 2 hours later 229 after insulin and dinner. Nuts

W8D4: FBS 137 Tracked food, fitness, water, fruit, veggie& fiber ! Pups 30 min mile walk, 30
8/10 min gardening. 15min Stablility Ball workout, 20min band workout !

W8D5: FBS 105 Tracked food, fruit, water, veggies, fitness & fiber ! 30min mile with the Pups
8/11 gardening for 30 mins.

W8D6: FBS 243 wait where did that come from? Pre lunch 102 that is much better ! Did the
8/12 Pups walk for 30min 1 mile. Then did the usual gardening for 30mins. Forgot to do the
Strength Training today so will get it done tomorrow. Did another 90 mins of gardening.
I'm going to have to stop working the two community gardens, but I'm the only one around
during the day. Everyone else is out working!

W8D7: FBS 106 Tracked food, fitness water, fruits, veggies & fiber. Did the Strength Training.
8/13 20min bands, 15min Ball! 30min mile with the Pups and 30mins in the garden. Friend
didn't finish mowing his back yard yesterday so I've gotten that done and he is working on
his new porch. That was fun, I got to use his new lawn mower which makes mine look old
and in need of help. This is the end of the challenge for me this is the 3rd time around.
I lost 1# this time around. That is fine. My big goal was to get my blood sugars back into
check and that I did. Thanks everyone !

Welcome to Week 8! You can see the emoticon line from here! We all want to see the weight come off, but some times it just doesn't happen that way. My frist time out I lost 14 #'s with the challenge. The 2nd time I lost 8#'s and this time I have gained 13 lost 14, gained 2 and waiting to see what the end result will be.
You have learned many things here at the challenge and what you have learned you have also learned what to do to keep your diabetes in check. That is the bigger prise ! You have gotten your FBS down and your A1C down and you have had a medication change ! emoticon Enjoy your last week of this challenge and please come up to the After 8 weeks and tell us how you did in the end! emoticon I made it to Week 8!

I've been meeting all the goals of the weeks...so I think I've done pretty good with the habit forming. BUT still not losing weight! emoticon I have to keep telling myself that it'll drop off if I just keep on keepin' on. Easier said than done!

But this is the last week of the Challenge...and that's a BIG plus for me...I mean, to finish a Challenge. Usually I get bored and quit before I'm done. Not this time!

oh, fbs today - 136...high, but I usually do one high day a week. Talked to my Dr. and have rearranged my meds. Seems Metformin in better in two doses or a long release pill. So I'm cutting my pills in half, one in the am and one in the pm. Well, see how that works.

Have a Terrific Thursday and Keep on Sparking! Carol emoticon

Having re-done week 7 and still stuck at 7lb loss I should be feeling down but I am ready for a final push in week 8 to reach me 10lb goal. Bloods still good. One reason for a surge in motivation is that I saw a photo taken of me last week and I couldnt believe it was me. I look okay from front on but from the side I look like Hattie Jacques (old Carry On film actress with enormous boobies). Not really funny - so here I go again, keep on keeping on, not carry on.

i switched drs because my old dr thought he knew my body better than i did and the insulin schedule he had for me wasn't working. my new dr immediately switched insulins and changed my schedule and down my AC1 went. i am now totally off one insulin (the short acting one) and only taking 1 long lasting shot a day. now i am having to deal w/lows so must work on that. good luck w/your new dr.

8 weeks!!! WOW!!!
While I haven't lost much weight in the last 8 weeks, I've taken a ton of steps to manage my diabetes. I think the best step I've taken has been meeting with a nutritionist and diabetes educator. So helpful!!!
I still have lots of questions and I'm really looking forward to working with a new doctor (see my blog for the details of my doc switch). I've been more active in the last 8 weeks than ever. I've fallen in love with exercise. I'm at the gym 4-5 times a week for about an hour and feel Grrrrrrrreat!
I'm looking forward to getting my A1c test done in about a month to see how it has improved. It still won't be great, but it will be much better!!! I think I'm on the wrong meds but doc doesn't want to change it. Argh! Anyway...things are looking better!!!!

I'm not sure where I posted last...but anyway, morning all! My weight is down to 166.0 lbs this morning! Woohoo! This makes it a total of 8 lbs down since I began this team 8 weeks ago! That's AWESOME! I'm very pleased w/my success! I think I've mastered the issue of snacking in the evenings......I just need to PLAN my snacks better & allot calories for it! It'll work!

Today I'm taking a ZUMBA class in the morning & I'll forego my morning walk...& I'll walk this evening w/hubby & also complete 15 min of ST, using my stability ball!

EnJOY a great day everyone! Happy Wednesday!

I will stick around Kate and I should probably start over at week one and do it all over again! I can't believe I've finished 8 weeks as of yesterday and boy did I finish with a bang! We have a wonderful outdoor arts and crafts festival on the waterfront in Portland almost year-round and my mom and I went to it yesterday. We took our cities train transportation for the first time which was an adventure for both of us and she took her scooter because she can't walk any distance( she has fibromyalgia and neuropathy, diabetes, psoriatic arthritis, etc). Well to make a long story short, her scooter broke down, so I had to push her all around the festival and back to the car! We did about 2 hours so that was a lot of pushing. I think I got my exercise in for the day! I was pooped last night and definitely ready for bed. They have such tempting food choices at places like that, but I saw a sign that said low fat low carb falafel, so that's what I chose to eat. It was pretty good actually. Not something I'd do every day, but OK for once in a great while and it didn't kill me on Weight Watcher's points. One last piece of news and then I'll let someone else have the floor. We got a letter in the mail yesterday and we were fearing it was bad news. It wasn't. My mom was approved to get a Power chair so now she will be able to go places and do things that she hasn't been able to do in years!! We are so thrilled and she cried. This will take a lot of pressure off of me. Thank you to the Rotary Club for their generous donation of the chair. What a wonderful organization.

Hugs, Lauri

Thanks for asking, Anna! The walking video is going really well. It's a 3 mile video and I poop out after the first mile, but since that's double what I had been walking I'm taking it as progress. I also did a 2 mile walk here within my park and I actually walked to my mailboxes!! What a feat! I just about collapsed when I got back, but I did make it and that's the important part. This weekend we are going to an outdoor crafts festival our city puts on. It is so unique and so much fun. I will get lots of walking in then! I want to thank you all for your support and thank you Anna for for part in the contest. I was a very surprised winner!!!

Lauri, Congrates on your win here at the Challenge, I was blessed I think it was in my thrid week with the win. I was so surprised because I had forgotten that there was a prize ! When You are having a good time you don't have to get a prize also. But it sure was nice! Still have to come up with what I'm going to get ! Once again Glad to know someone else that was a winner ! But are we not all winners here who finish this Challenge!

Doing well so far this week. Having a little trouble with the exercise since I injured my foot, but I just keep pushing through the pain. Will probably do the Leslie Sansone Walking Video today to stay dry and warm. It's more of a workout and gets my blood pumping! I got a nice surprise in the mail last night. I won the weight loss challenge on this website last week and won $50 in gift certificates! I've hardly won anything in my life so this was a huge surprise!! Now I get to spend money at the Spark People store and at Glucerna. Thank you to both companies for sponsoring the challenge. I feel so good about this. I went over my points on WW last night and i'm noticing my weight is up this morning. I know it just has to be water weight, but it's still scary nonetheless. Oh, also found a great Diabetic sugar free bakery by my house that publishes all the nutritional information on their goodies as well as the WW points plus values. You can get a huge muffin for just 1 point!! We splurged and got cream puffs last night and they were only 1 point and 150 calories. Yummo!!
Enough rattling from me. I wish you all a successful week and I can't wait to see how this week turns out. I would love to finish with a bang. Here's wishing success to everyone participating!

Hugs, Lauri

So glad you have found the challenge to be a support as you move toward successfully reaching your goals because that was our goal! Glad to hear you will be sticking around to encourage others in their journey. You can substitute any of Coach Nicole's videos www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness

in place of the suggested one to help change things up and keep it challenging and fresh.

Lauri, you too are a special friend to have gone, so what ever we do we have to find a place that we continue the daily chit chat ! This is my Week 8 Day 7 Fina lfor the Challenge.
I have lost 22 pounds ! There is missing from my body 31.5 inches ! And I'm sure that if I had not had a problem with medication along the way my Blood Sugars would have dropped.
Looking forward to my A1C in two weeks!
What worked ! Following the directions, reading the ariticle, doing the fitness as directed and tracking everything that goes into the mouth ! Tracking Food & Fitness & 8-12 glasses of cystal clear Water, 8 oz! These things all Worked !
What was difficult ! The hardest thing to do was find ways to alter some of the exercises to meet my physical disablitiy. I did find ways around the things that I couldn't do. I wish that Coach Nicole could make a video with obese people doing things that would help us build up our muscles. I think there are enough of us that would purchase it. Like there is no way that I can yet sit Indian style, or put my right ankle up to my left knee! That was the only difficulty that I personal had. But I made due with what I could do! I'm sure that it will be another 50#'s before I can do some of those positions!
What Improvement ! I am eating healthy portioned controled foods. I have added Strength Taining to my cardio work outs three times a week. I usually get at least 30+ mins daily of cardio of one kind or another ! I am now taking Blood Sugars more than just my Fasting Blood Sugars every morning. Keeping a closer eye on what causes rises and falls.
Thank You Coaches, team leaders, but mostly, Thanks, YOU SPARKIES ! You all helped me complete this Challenge by offering up encourgament, inspiration, and desire to finish what I'd started. To Glucerna thank you for sponsering this Challenge !!!
I will be sticking around & maybe Coach Nicole, could come up with maybe two more video's that you have in your files to offer to people that want to stick around so that we can keep growing rather than going back to the beginning again. Please ! Sure hope you read this one ! Kay & The Pups emoticon emoticon emoticon

ps Coach Tanya gave us a link to more videos above ! Thanks, I really think we can go further now right here !

Today is day one of week 8 for me. I haven't been doing my exercise like I need to. I started slacking off when I was in the hospital for my colonoscopy and I just haven't got back in the routine since then. I just got 2 new workout videos for Easter, so no excuses now, I'll have to try them out and see how I do! I can't believe the final week of the challenge is here. I've learned so much and made some wonderful friends along the way (Kay you're a gem!). I'm not going to know what to do with myself after the 8 weeks is over except to sign back up and do the challenge all over again. I've really changed my eating habits, brought my bs under control enough to lose one medication and started exercising. I'd say that's great strides in 7 weeks. I track my food every day as well. It's amazing what I won't put in my mouth if I know I have to commit it to paper. This challenge has really helped me to grow as a person!

Hugs, Lauri

Week 8 Day 6 ! I'd better look back at what I need to do to finisih up this challenge. Take a Diabetes Quiz ! Have done the three days of the Strength Training of the stabiliy ball !
Increased the cardio with 30+ mins. each day for 7 ! The tracking of food, water, fitness, veggies & fruits ! Right I still have to do the Head to Toe Check of list ! Share my long term goals with the others in my week 8 discussion forum! No one else here with me! Well, maybe I will work today on my Long Team Goals and how I'm going to pull it off!

Still haven't but don't rule it out ! Day isn't over with yet! Tracking and fitness & food daily ! That way I can look back to see what I was doing durning my best weeks!

Week 8 Day 3: It is nice to see the end of a challenge coming down the road at you. To think that you have stuck it out for a time period proves that you can do it. Today I did 30 mins. of yard work. 30 min. 2 mile walk, and the sabllilty ball video followed by the resistance bands video! The only thing that I didn't do well at these last two weeks is get the BS under control. Yesterday I think I have figured out what has been going on with the BS's. Having refreshed my knowledge there is another side of diabetes besides low BS there is high BS's. That can lead to ketoacidosis (burning of fat vs. carbs) when the BS are running higher than 240 then you should be using ketostiks to check for the spillage of ketons into the urine. So yesterday I did a check and there it was moderate. Sometimes having diabetes is like being a dective. MD said to cut back on trying to increase the exercise and to cut back on protein, and check every day until I'm down to trace or negative. Today I am down to small! So by the time I finish the challenge I think and we will see, if I don't return to negative. Stay positive even when the world is handing you all the negative it can find. Kay & The Pups emoticon

Week 8 day 2! I'm still in it to win it ! Have to cut make to min. exercise due to the burning of fat and spilling of ketones. ? Does any one know what I'm talking about? Just interested if others know what I'm talking about from being a diabetic.
So today being a free day to choose what I want to do for cardio, the sun was out this mornng and I did 30 mins. of raking the yard. That wind really wasn't helping me. Tomorrow most likely all that I cleaned up today will have blown from someone elses yard to mine and I can do it again. I still can to ST for 2 15 min. periods. Cardio 4 15min. periods And isn't that nice that it still mets the last week here for fitness! We will see if this changes my BS!
Have a great and successful day people ! Kay & The Pups emoticon

Here it is week 8! It really is hard to believe that 8 weeks can fly by as quickly as these 8 weeks have come and gone. Today I have done 45min. areobic walk with Leslie; I did the week 8 video with the Stability Ball ! then still had some energy to burn so I did the week 4 video with the resistance bands. My personal favorite. The sun is trying to peck out from behind the clouds so I may even go out and get some more yard work done. Working on the BS's with the added medication and hope to see some real improvement by the end of this week. That's about it for this day !
