I have an Omron and put it in my pocket first thing in the morning and take it out last thing at night. I have checked it a few times and find it quite accurate.
Couzcat, I got mine at amazon.com and they have a variety of styles and prices. Hope you can find what you want.

I have one, but don't like it. It seems to count steps when there are none and it tends to slip off of my pants when I am doing anything but a moderate walk pace. I have tried putting it in my pocket, but I do not trust the number it tells me ha.

Yes I own a Curves and another one that seems to be on the fritz. I walk in 10 minute increments but I also work between a couple of building so I'm getting a lot of steps at work.

Yes, I had an Omron for many, many years and found it to be very reliable. I am having difficulty finding that brand again so I had to settle for something not quite so good.

A very effective tool to monitor how much you _think_ you are moving about compared to how much you actually are.

We just got some today. Not sure if it's working quite right, but we'll give it a little more time. We went out tonight and it was working fine, but stopped half-way through the walk. I have found the RunKeeper app pretty good though. It was free earlier in the week, not sure if still is. It keeps track of how far you've walked--if out doors--through GPS and you can set a variety of activities: walking, running, cycling, swimming(???). It marks your pace, time, maps for your path.

I have an Omron Walking Style pocket pedometer which I love.It is a replacement for one that I forgot to take out of a pocket which means it went through the washer and was ruined.I can download my walking stats to a computer program that came with the pedometer.

My name is Nancy and I'm from West Virginia.I live in the Eastern Time Zone.

I bought one not too long ago, and it doesn't work! It did for about three days (had talking feedback and a panic alarm on it), and all of the sudden just abruptly stopped.

I need a new (better) one.

I am a very easy going gal that loves people and wants to know as many as I can. I want to make new friends so I can enjoy more of life. When people get to 55 or 60 there are some that think life should be over but guess what it is just beginning. Maybe 50 years ago it was over but not now people are living longer and working in their 70's. I would have been if I didn't have leukemia and it does not stop me but I have good days and bad, so being home if I need rest, I rest, at work I couldn't do

I have a pedometer finally working but now is steadily raining. I usually walk 2 to 3 miles but now I use the stepper and glider machines.

I was in the study with the attorney general studying pedometer use. I was in the hospital with my daughter, and they offered everyone money for the study. I got a pedometer for the study and gave the conductors results. My second one was a $4 one from walmart, but now I have a $40 one that reports to my computer. It is nice to have a workout that does not strain asthma, but can be self paced.

Yes I own 2 pedometers and 1 doesn't work, I have to call spark because it is theirs. I use them to see how far and how many steps I do. Have a good walk.

A pedometer came with the new Pokemon Nintendo game I'm playing (and yes, I'm 47 years old and play Pokemon!) I use it all the time. You stick your guy in there, and as you walk, he walks, and gets stronger :) Just like me.

I do. I don't put the steps into my activity tracker. I just try to get 10,000 steps or so each day.

I use my pedometer almost every day. I find that the more I wear it, the more steps I take. When I'm having trouble getting to 10,000 steps I just go to Wal-Mart, Lowes or some other wharehouse type store and walk around the perimeter. It takes about 10 minutes, and really gets your steps up!

I am finding myself using mine a lot. The first week was really depressing realizing just how many steps 10,000 a day is! I'm adjusting my goals to work up to that.

I not only have one but I use it. I was getting pretty close to 10,000 a day and then had to reduce the time I spend on my feet. I really like using it though. Keeps me honest about how much I really do move around compared to how much I think I move around.

Funny you should ask... My Sportline Solo 960 pedometer came in the mail Saturday past. Thanks to eBay I found it for a whopping $10.49 instead of the $99.99 street price. Seems the young lady got two of them for her birthday and sold one off.

So far I love the thing... pedometer, distance, speed, minutes walking and a heart rate monitor to boot! This thing's cool!

This may sound lame, but one of my husband's St. Bernards decided to make my pedometer into a chew toy emoticon and it was a really nice one too.

The search for a new begins.

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT:

"Instead of giving myself reasons why I can't, I give myself reasons why I can."

"Forgiving is love's toughest work, and love's biggest risk. If you twist it into something it was never meant to be, it can make you a doormat or an insufferable manipulator. Forgiving seems almost unnatural. Our sense of fairness tells us people should pay for the wrong they do. But forgiving is love's power to break nature's rule." ~Lewis B. Smedes

Cyndi, thanks for your concern. I found out that my pedometer needed new batteries. I have it on and it's been humming along like a charm. I do the treadmill and yesterday got almost 9,000 steps. Mine resets to 0 also. I want to do at least 45 minutes a day. Running, no not for me. It jarrs my back so must be careful with that.

Good for you Cyndi doing that running like a breeze.
Take care.

Hum, EB, not sure I know what you mean. Mine resets to zero every night at midnight, then just begins recounting when I put it on.

Not knowing how familiar you are with it . . . you may have pushed the button that shows you aerobic steps, which would remain zero until you do at least 10 minutes @ about 3 mph.

Not sure what else it could be, since even if it were 'full' it just loses the oldest day and begins counting the present day.

My best suggestion would be to pop out the battery (kinda like a reboot:) and start over.

I'm not much help, but hope it begins working for you. Otherwise, Omron charges you $5 for a new one, annoying, but been there-done that.

It's almost September 3rd, and though I have a range of 30 minute steps, no final count.

I get soooo distracted when walking outside. I need to subtract my camera AND add a timer to my walking equation.

See ya in 5 days emoticon

I have one similar to that though not as expensive, got it on e-bay. It was new and worked out at £9 English. You can put it in your pocket, even in your handbag and then plug in when you get back and it records it all.

I'm not necessarily recommending the one I have 'cause it was pricey, but . . .

I have an Omron720itc that you can wear, put in a pack, or toss in a pocket upside down an backwards, it doesn't care. It comes with software that keeps track of each step hour by hour, how many steps are aerobic, you can set step goals . . .

Anyhow, like I said not cheap, but you can look at it & compare on Amazon. I would say since I spent so much ~~ I USE IT, and by virtue of seeing my steps on screen seldom take under 10,000 daily. How sad is it that I am in competition with a a piece of plastic;)

Well i just recently got the one i have so i dont really know a whole lot about the different things some of them can do. The one i bought was about $11US and all mine does is count the steps i take and converts it into mile (or Kilometers) Mine doesnt calculate my calories burned as im walking so you got a good deal there.

Pedometer do need to be worn on you belt strap the goal of the their placement is so that it will not turn onto its side and get an inaccurate step count.

I hope i helped

and Welcome emoticon

Hi all,

so actually this is my first post in that SparkTeam and, already i got some questions, without saying "Hello" ... :) My fault. Am going to change that later on, ok?

So, i'm just quite new to walking and tried it to track the routes i walked with a GPS receiver. But thats note quite comfortabel because of the size and weight of that tool. But, it has some nice features like putting the track into GoogleEarth. :)

Now i just found, that Pedometer thing, went to ebay and found out, that i can get one under 5US including shipping. That seems quite fair to me?!

So, my question was, which features the Pedometer should contain? Are there special things? Well, these cheap things "only" count the steps i made in total and don't track it over time. It tells me the distance i walked and calculates the burned calories in which i don't believe.

How is that little thing working? Do i need to bind it to one of my shoes or can i just put it on my beld or just in a pocked of my trousers?

So, thanks in advance and please excuse my poor english. :)

Stefan

:wq!

Ta-Da ~~ I took my pedo apart to let it dry out, and lo an behold . . . IT WORKS. So, I'm in if I can remember to return to this thread:)

I think I have my pedo set to running steps. Wonder how that translates to walking?

I, too, wonder if I can actually leave the house without a camera, never tried that before emoticon

oh yea sorry spindexr i forgot to answer your question

Well everyone has to ever there "score" in by September 3 (thats a month from today) and whoever can pull off the most steps in a thirty minute walk will get the prize.

I wont include running in the mix because i myself cant even jog without gettin hurt haha.

Any more questions????

I would love to do this, I just need to get a new battery for it before I do it.

Pity I saw this after I went for a walk! I find that, on average, I walk 125 steps a minute when I'm not really pushing it or strolling around smelling the flowers (if I'm taking pictures, forget it! I find that photography and exercise just don't mix). So a 30 minute walk be about 3750 steps for me.

How do you decide who the winner is?

Avital
