Well xmas is gone, but maybe it is a good time to knit for xmas, seeing as it takes time to knit.
I still have yarn, but no one to knit for as the kids are big and they want to buy their own clothes. Have you knitted anything recently?

It's amazing how much help you've been!! I actually have a swatch that is a full 3 inches long, and actually looks good!! It amazes me, I've never made it this far and not gotten frustrated in some way and given up, and my stitches are getting better and tighter too! (And my friend is coming over tuesday and is going to teach me how to read a pattern.

I'm going to start with this:

You ladies ready for a laugh?

All these years, I thought I was knitting normally? Apparently I knit backwards and in a weird combination of the continental style and the English style hehe.... i've also learned that my casting on is actually probably the worst way to do it because it makes it harder to keep the stitches straight and even lol... nothing like making everything way harder than it has to!

I am currently watching the basic tutorials and trying to unlearn most of the stuff I pretty much taught myself!

QTLIONESS13 and JULIEBITES, a great site is Knitting Help. www.knittinghelp.com There are videos there, for free, that show you how to do almost everything imaginable.

I'm no expert, but if you have questions, just send me a message and I'll try to point you to helpful information if I can't help you myself.

Also, Cat Bordhi, has some great video tutorials on youtube. She's a bit verbose but she's a good teacher.

Hope this helps!!!

I am still a newbie knitter so I do very simple stitch and pearl patterned scarves. I started to knit to keep my hands busy while I was trying to quit smoking. I am self tought using books but I am very interested in learning more. Makes the holiday season much more affordable.

Dollybabe, there are lots of free patterns on the internet. Take a peek at the site Ravelry. Then go into patterns and you can search for patterns that interest you. Then, you can look at notes that others have written about how clear the pattern was, if they made modifications, if there were errors, and how they liked the finished product.

PensandQuills, I'm sure your grandmother will appreciate the shawl. I have one I made a few years ago for myself that's more for practicality. It's a triangular shawl but in a heavier yarn. I could use that shawl right now but need to get it out of storage.

I am actually knitting my grandmother a shawl for Christmas. I'm still quite the beginner but I managed to get my hand on some beautiful Paton's yarn and it is perfect for her. So I'm doing a simple knit rectangle piece that is more practical than delicate.

Of course, this is the first Christmas in two years that I've seen her. I actually get to go home for the first time in 10 or so years and give it to her.

I had planned to knit for Christmas. It looks like I'm going to have too much going on, though.

I may do a few small things. Hats and ornaments are a strong possibility. I've considered finally knitting my mother a shawl but she keeps changing her mind about which pattern she likes.

I've toyed with the idea of baby blankets for expectant mothers in my family but I don't want to over commit myself.

More than likely, I'll be knitting on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for pleasure.

I'd say you're more than half way there!! Knowing how to knit is a biggie!!

When someone shows you how to pearl, you might find it easier than knitting. I think it's easier!

hehe, that's sort of my problem... I don't know how to turn it around and go back the other way... I can put onto the needle, and I can do the first way, but everytime I try to switch needles things get funky and the "stiches" are never even or tight.... my husband thinks I pull the yarn too tight on the needles or something. and I've never pearled... and have no clue how to either!

Honey, you don't have to learn much to knit a scarf. Since you know the basics, you can make all the scarves you want to. Just make it as wide as you want it to be and keep on knitting every row or you can knit one row and after you come to the end of that row, coming back you can pearl the following row. Then just continue with whatever you choose.
Someone else might be able to explain this better than I have. I hope so for your sake! lol

I'd love to knit, I even have needles and know the basics.. but i'm totally lost about how to follow a pattern or anything. I'd also like to learn to crochet... but again, I'm lost. I even picked up the book one time "crochetting for dummies" and I still didn't get it!

When I used to knit I made a whole outfit for a baby, blanket, mittins, sweater, hat, and a zipper outfit, like a bag you put the baby in and I lined it. That time only cost me l7.00 but today woul be way more. I have made sweaters for my son and husband, and scafts for me and those dolls for toliet paper. So what have anyone made or is making?
